Duplicate Result Rows From 2 Table Join

May 7, 2012

I am using SLQ Server 2008 R2. The database was designed by another company.

I have two tables: Client and Client_Location. In the Client table the pk is Client_ID. There is also a unique key: sys_Client_ID. Both the Client_ID and the sys_Client_ID fields exist as a foreign keys in the Client_Location table. However, the fields are not noted as unique in the Client_Location table. There are two fields in the Client_Location table that determine when the address was effective. They are from_dt and end_dt.

Multiple records have been loaded into the Client_Location table to track old as well as current addresses of clients.

I'm trying to run a report that will pull clients with a plan_id constraint from the Client table and join the Client_Location table to retrieve the current address of these clients.

My SQL is:

select distinct (a.client_id), a.cli_last AS Last_Name,
a.cli_first AS First_Name, a.cli_middle AS Mid_Init,
b.city AS City, b.county AS County, b.state AS State
from ECBH.dbo.tbl_Client a inner join ECBH.dbo.tbl_Client_Location b
on a.client_id = b.client_id
inner join ECBH.dbo.tbl_client_insurance c
on a.client_id = c.client_id
inner join ECBH_TEST.dbo.tbl_GEF_County d
on b.county = d.COUNTY_NAME
where c.plan_id = 4
order by a.cli_last, a.cli_first

Because multiple records exist in the Client_Location table, the result set has duplicates. How can I pull only the results where the from_dt is most recent?

How To Remove Duplicate Rows From Full Join Query

Jan 26, 2008

I have 4 tables (SqlServer2000/2005). In the select query, I have FULL JOINED all the four tables A,B,C,D as I want all the data. The result is as sorted by DDATE desc:-
AID     BID      BNAME          DDATE                                   DAUTHOR
1          1          abcxyz              2008-01-20 23:42:21.610        c@d.com
1          1          abcxyz              2008-01-20 23:41:52.970        a@b.com
1          2          xyzabc              2008-01-21 00:17:14.360        c@d.com
1          2          xyzabc              2008-01-20 23:43:17.110        a@b.com
1          2          xyzabc              2008-01-20 23:42:43.937        a@b.com
1          2          xyzabc              NULL                                      NULL
2          3          pqrlmn              NULL                                      NULL
2          4          cdefgh              NULL                                      NULL
Now, I want unique rows from the above result set like :-
AID     BID      BNAME          DDATE                                   DAUTHOR
1          1          abcxyz              2008-01-20 23:42:21.610        c@d.com
1          2          xyzabc              2008-01-21 00:17:14.360        c@d.com
2          3          pqrlmn              NULL                                      NULL
2          4          cdefgh              NULL                                      NULL
I want to remove the duplicate rows and show only the unique rows but contains all the data from the first table A. I have to bind this result set to a nested GridView.

Incorrect Order Result Set When Join Table

Mar 24, 2002

Hi all,
I faced a problem, I have two tables - part and partmaster
part : part_no, part_qty (no key)
partmaster : part_no, part_description (primary key : part_no )

I want to select table part.* and partmaster.part_description.

(run on mssql 2k)
select a.*, b.part_description
from part a, partmaster b where a.part_no *= b.part_no

I want to and expect to have the result order like table "part". However, after the join, the order is different. I try to run it on mssql 7.0, the order is ok.

Then I modify and run the statement select a.* from part a, partmaster b where a.part_no *= b.part_no on 2k again. The result order is ok.

can anyone tell me the reason?

Now I try to fix this problem is adding a sequence field "part_seq" into table "part" and run the statement by adding a order by part_seq.
It does work!

Regards,
Simon

Join Category Table So That Categories Are In The Result On Only

Feb 22, 2007

SELECT DISTINCT Image.ImageID, Image.JobID, Image.Filename, Tag.Name,
Tag.SortOrder, TagCat.name

FROM Image, JobTag, Tag, Job, Tagcat

WHERE Tag.TagID = JobTag.TagID
AND Image.JobID = Job.JobID
AND Job.JobID = JobTag.JobID
AND TagCat.TagCatID = Tag.TagCatID

ORDER BY Image.ImageID, Tag.SortOrder

I'd like to replace the query above with a some kind of a join, but I'm not sure how to do it. The reason I want to do this is to only get the category (TagCat.name) one time for each set of tags that go under that category for that particular job. Any thoughts on how I could do this? Would I need to create more than one query or do you think this can be one with just one query?

Trying To Join Within A Table - Get Result Sorted By Primary ID

Aug 27, 2014

So if an item is a bottle, it will have a unique BottleKey and Null for CaseKey and if an item is a Case, it will have a unique CaseKey and Null for BottleKey. However, the PrimaryIDs are the same for both the bottle and case. I get the results to look like this:

Bottlekey CaseKey PrimaryID
4754 NULL ABC-234
NULL 5465 ABC-234
.... .... .......

Is there a way to get the result sorted by Primary ID?

So that the rows are halved from what we have in the table above and the results look like

PrimaryID CaseKey BottleKey
ABC-234 5465 4754

Deleting Duplicate Rows In SQL Table

Nov 16, 2007

I have an SQL tables [Keys] that has various rows such as:
[ID] [Name] [Path] [Customer]
1 Key1 Key1 InHouse
2 Key2 Key2 External
3 Key1 Key1 InHouse
4 Key1 Key1 InHouse
5 Key1 Key1 InHouse

Obviously IDs 1,3,4,5 are all exactly the same and I would like to be left with only:
[ID] [Name] [Path] [Customer]
1 Key1 Key1 InHouse
2 Key2 Key2 External

I cannot create a new table/database or change the unique identifier (which is currently ID) either. I simply need an SQL script I can run to clean out the duplicates (I know how they got there and the issue has been fixed but the Database is still currently invalid due to all these duplicate entires).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Deleting Duplicate Rows Within A Single Table

May 14, 2004

I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion as to how to delete duplicate rows from a table. I have been doing this:

SELECT * INTO TempUsersNoRepeats
FROM TempUsers2
UNION
SELECT * FROM TempUsers3

This way I end up with a total of four tables (the fourth table being the original Users table) and I was hoping that there was a way that I could do this all within the the original Users table and not have to create the three TempUsers tables.

Thanks,
Ron

Transact SQL :: Delete Duplicate Rows From Table?

Jul 21, 2015

I have a table with more than 1000 records. The columns look like this

Import id   |   Reference   |  Date  |  Username  | Filename

Some of the rows are duplicates except for the fact that they have different values for the first column alone (import id)

11111      test   21-07-2015   xxxxxx   yyyyyy
22222      test   21-07-2015   xxxxxx   yyyyyy

Is it possible to delete these kind of duplicate rows by ignoring the import id ?

Report Designer: Need To List Fields From Multiple Result Rows As Comma Seperated List (like A JOIN On Parameters)

Apr 9, 2008

I know I can do a JOIN(parameter, "some seperator") and it will build me a list/string of all the values in the multiselect parameter.

However, I want to do the same thing with all the occurances of a field in my result set (each row being an occurance).

For example say I have a form that is being printed which will pull in all the medications a patient is currently listed as having perscriptions for. I want to return all those values (say 8) and display them on a single line (or wrap onto additional lines as needed).

Something like:
List of current perscriptions: Allegra, Allegra-D, Clariton, Nasalcort, Sudafed, Zantac

How can I accomplish this?

I was playing with the list box, but that only lets me repeat on a new line, I couldn't find any way to get it to repeate side by side (repeat left to right instead of top to bottom). I played with the orientation options, but that really just lets me adjust how multiple columns are displayed as best I can tell.

Could a custom function of some sort be written to take all the values and spit them out one by one into a comma seperated string?

Forums f FULL JOIN Topics t ON f.forumid=t.forumid
FULL JOIN Threads th ON t.topicid=th.topicid

ORDER BY t.topicid ASC,th.lastpostdate DESC
Whose result set is as below:-

forumid

SQL 2012 :: Table (with Zero Rows) Not Returning Any Result

Jun 26, 2014

I am trying to run queries on a table (table has zero rows). Inspite of giving 0 rows returned the query keeps on running and I have to cancel it. I tried inserting a dummy row into the table but even the insert operation is taking too long.Every query which I hit on the table just keeps on running without giving any result.

But this is not the case with other tables in the database. They are all running fine giving proper results. But this one table is behaving funny.

Transact SQL :: Temp Table - Display Duplicate IDs In Multiple Rows

Jun 30, 2015

I have a temp table with the following columns and data

drop table #temp
create table #temp (id int,DLR_ID int,KPI_ID int,Brnd_ID int)
insert into #temp values (1,2343,34,2)
insert into #temp values (2,2343,34,2)
insert into #temp values (3,2343,34,2)

[Code]....

I use the rank function on that table and get the following results

select rank() over (order by DLR_ID,KPI_ID,BRND_ID  ) Rown,* from #temp

I am interested only in Rown and Id columns. For each Rown number, I need to get the min(ID) in the second column and the duplicate ID should be in 3rd column as shown below. If i have 3 duplicate IDs , I should have 3 rows with 2nd column being the min(id) and 3rd column having one of the duplicate ids in ascending order(as shown in Rown=6)

SQL Server 2012 :: How To Delete Duplicate Rows Present In Parent Table

Oct 19, 2014

Dynamiclly Remove Duplicate Rows From Results Table Based On Column Data?

Nov 30, 2007

I have a results table that was created from many different sources in SSIS. I have done calculations and created derived columns in it. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to remove duplicate rows from this table without first writing it to a temp sql table and then parsing through it to remove them.

each row has a like key in a column - I would like to remove like rows keeping specific columns in the resulting row based on the data in this key field.

Ideas?
Thanks,
Ad.

INNER JOIN Between A CLR-TVF And A Table Returns No Rows

Feb 24, 2007

I have the following query:

select sq.*, p.numero, p.nombre
from paf p right outer join dbo.GetListOfSquaresForShippingLot(@lot) sq on sq.number = p.numero and sq.version = p.numero

The @lot parameter is declared at the top ( declare @lot int; set @lot = 1; ). GetListOfSquaresForShippingLot is a CLR TVF coded in C#. The TVF queries a XML field in the database and returns nodes as rows, and this is completed with information from a table.

If I run a query with the TVF only, it returns data; but if I try to join the TVF with a table, it returns empty, even when I'm expecting matches. I thought the problem was the data from the TVF was been streamed and that's why it could not be joined with the data from the table.

I tried to solve that problem by creating a T-SQL multiline TVF that is supposed to generate a temporary table. This didn't fix the problem.

What can I do? Does anybody know if I can force the TVF to render its data somewhere so the JOIN works? I was thinking a rowset function could help, but I just can't figure out how.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Let me know if you want the code for the CLR TVF. This is the code for the T-SQL TVF:

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[GetTabListOfSquaresForShippingLot]
(
@ShippingLot int
)
RETURNS
@result TABLE
(
Number int, Version int, Position smallint,
SubModel smallint, Quantity smallint,
SquareId nvarchar(5),
ParentSquareId nvarchar(5),
IsSash smallint,
IsGlazingBead smallint,
Width float,
Height float,
GlassNumber smallint,
GlassWidth float,
GlassHeight float
)
AS
BEGIN
INSERT INTO @result
SELECT *
FROM dbo.GetListOfSquaresForShippingLot(@ShippingLot)

RETURN
END

Table Join Statement Returns Repeat Rows

Jul 22, 2007

Hello All.

I am struggling with the below join block in my stored procedure.
I can't seem to get the duplicate row problem to go away. It seems that SQL is treating each new instance of an email address as reason to create a new row despite the UNIONs.
I understand that if I am using UNION, using DISTINCT is redundant and will not solve the duplicate row problem.

Primary Keys: none of the email address columns are primary keys. Each table has an incrementing ID column that serves
as the primary key.

I am guessing I am encountering this problem because of how
I have structured my Join statements? Is it possible to offer advice without a deeper understanding of my data model or
do you need more information?

Thanks for any tips.

Code:

select emailAddress from Users union
select user_name from PersonalPhotos union
select email_address from EditProfile union
select email_address from SavedSearches union
select distinct email_address from UserPrecedence union
select email_address from LastLogin) drv
Left Join Users tab1 on (drv.emailAddress = tab1.emailAddress)
Inner Join UserPrecedence tab5 on tab5.UserID=tab1.UserID
Left Join PersonalPhotos tab2 on (drv.emailAddress = tab2.user_name)
Left Join LastLogin tab4 on (drv.emailAddress = tab4.email_address)
Left Join EditProfile tab3 on (drv.emailAddress = tab3.email_address)
Left Join SavedSearches tab6 on (drv.emailAddress = tab6.email_address

Returning Average Of Multiple Rows In A Table Join

Jul 23, 2005

Hi,I'm am looking for a little help. I need to create a SQL view whichjoins a few tables, and I need to return an average for a particularcolumn where a second duplicate ID exists...Heres an example of how the results could be returned...ID | Name | Order No. | Value---+------+-----------+---------5 | test | 1234 | 35 | test2| 1234 | 45 | test3| 1234 | 35 | void | 1235 | 55 | void2| 1235 | 65 | void3| 1235 | 55 | void4| 1235 | 7ID is my main join which joins the tablesName is a unique nameOrder No is the same for the different names, I only need to return onerow with this order no, and the first name (the rest are irrelevant)Value is the field which I wish to return as an average of all 3, 4 orhowever many rows is returned and share the same order no. This iswhere I get totally lost as I am pretty new to SQL. Can anyone provideany help on how I would go about limiting this query to the uniqueorder no's and returning the average of the value field, and I can takeit from there with my own tables. Thanks for your helpstr8

Case Stmt Returns Duplicate Result

Nov 28, 2007

Hi there,

The following is my table whereby i have joined projects table with issue table (this is 1 to many relationship).

I have the following query:
SELECT
odf.mbb_sector sectorid,

SUM(case when odf.mbb_projecttype = 'lkp_val_appl' then 1 else 0 end) total_appl,
SUM(case when odf.mbb_projecttype = 'lkp_val_infrastructure' then 1 else 0 end) total_infra,
SUM(case when odf.mbb_projecttype = 'lkp_val_eval' then 1 else 0 end) total_eval,
SUM(case when odf.mbb_projecttype = 'lkp_val_subproject' then 1 else 0 end) total_subprj,
SUM(case when odf.mbb_projecttype = 'lkp_val_nonit' then 1 else 0 end) total_nonit,
SUM(case when odf.mbb_projecttype = 'lkp_val_adhocrptdataextract' or
odf.mbb_projecttype = 'lkp_val_productionproblem' or
odf.mbb_projecttype = 'lkp_val_maintwoprogchange' then 1 else 0 end) total_others,
COUNT(distinct prj.prid) total_prj

FROM
PRJ_PROJECTS AS PRJ,
SRM_PROJECTS AS SRM,
ODF_CA_PROJECT AS ODF

LEFT JOIN RIM_RISKS_AND_ISSUES AS RRI ON RRI.pk_id = odf.id

WHERE
prj.prid = srm.id
AND srm.id = odf.id
AND srm.is_active =1
AND odf.mbb_projecttype not in ('lkp_val_budget','lkp_val_itpc')
AND odf.mbb_funcunit = 'lkp_val_operation'

GROUP BY
odf.mbb_sector
which returns me the following result :
.

The problem is at the lkp_val_infosystem where it returns 3 instead of 1 in the total_infra column. How do I correct my case stmt to return the correct no of projects breakdown by different project type? Currently, only the total_prj which returns correct data.

Thanks
