Dynamic Group Headings With Table Groups (Toggle)

Apr 21, 2008

Hi,

I have a SSRS 2005 report with a table and several groupings. These groupings are made visible with toggle items.
I am trying to determine how to make the associated group headings (entered within table header) visible or not visible depending on the visibility state of the groupings.

Example: (initial state with group1 only visible)
Group1 Heading Count Sum
+Group1 999 999

(click + sign to make visible group 2)
Group1 Heading Group2 Heading Count Sum
-Group1 999 999
+Group2 888 888

etc.. for remaining groups

I've tried toggling the table header column the same way I did the group, but the group scope isn't available so I don't know what to use. (Manually putting it in causes report error.)
I don't know what visibility expression to use because I can't figure out what report item I can look at to determine the group's visibility "status" in order to make an expression.

Any ideas?

Note: I did see a similar post from sadsac, but the "answer" didn't address this.

Thanks

Dynamic Toggle Visibility?

Apr 23, 2007

Hi,

I am trying to create a report that should have a dynamic toggle visible, so that when the parent is of a certain type the toggle button (+, -) would not appear and in the other case it will.

Is this possible? I can use expressions in the visible field but not in the toggle one, so how can i manage it?

Dynamic Group Changing In A Table Report

Nov 29, 2007

Hello all!
Does anybody know, if it is possilbe to dynamically change grouping in a table report?
I mean, is it possible to provide the enduser the capability to group data in a table on whatever column he would like?

The second question is related:
Is it possible to make a usersort on a grouped table, in such way, that ALL the rows would be sorted ascended regardless of the group they belong to? (For now the only way I see to do this is to give the enduser possibility to turn off grouping manually)

Overriding Visibility Toggle Or Making The Toggle Of Rows Conditional

Sep 28, 2007

Greetings,
I have five rows in a group header.
The top row is a true header row with details that will always be there and will always be visible.
The bottom four rows have their Visibility.Hidden property set to 'TRUE'.
All four of the bottom rows are assigned the same Visibility.ToggleItem.
Of the four bottom rows, any or all of them may not have data at any one time.
I want to find a way of allowing the rows to toggle from hidden to visible, but if one or all of the rows have a field item whose value is 0 then that row must remain invisible regardless of whether it is toggled.

I am still working on this puzzle, but if someone can provide me with an easy solution while I struggle, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Need Script For Column Visibility Based On Group's Visibility Toggle

Feb 13, 2008

Hello,

I'm using SSRS 2005

I'm trying to write an expression for the "Hidden" property of a column in a table. The column is only populated with data if the group on my table is open. If the group is collapsed, then the column is empty. I'd like to make the column hidden if the group is collapsed. So I'm thinking it would be something like this:

=Iif(Table_1_Group.Hidden = "True", "True", "False")

But I can't find anyone who has written this anywhere.

I'm basically trying to make this report do the same thing a matrix does, but the matrix doesn't let me label the columns. I put textboxes above the matrix in line with the columns, but when I deploy the report to ReportManager, the textboxes get thrown all over the place and don't line up with the columns anymore.

So I guess if you can't answer the first question, an alternate question I have is how are you supposed to label the columns (row groups) in your matrix? They don't have headers, if I try to line textboxes up with them they get all messed up during deployment. They have that textbox up there in the top left corner that runs across the top of all of the row group columns, but if I put labels separated spaces in that textbox, the spaces get removed in rendering so the text is pushed all to the left and doesn't line up anymore.

Thanks,
Andy

Hiding A Group Also Hides All Nested Groups

Mar 7, 2007

I have several nested sub-total groups. Depending on a report parameter, I may want to suppress one of the sub-totals. This one group is not the lowest group in the hierarchy and, when I hide it, all the groups "below" it become hidden too. I only want the one group to "disappear", not any others. Is there a way to accomplish this other than creating two versions of the report?

SSIS Database Table To Flat File Destination With Column Headings

Sep 8, 2006

Hi,

I have a simple enough task to complete that I can€™t seem to find the answer to.

The task is this €“

Select table x from the database and write it to a flat file complete with that tables column headings.

Now I€™ve managed to set up an ole db datasource and selected the table and I€™ve also linked it to the flat file output.  So now I can generate a flat file from the database.  However no column headings appear in the flat file.

I can€™t seem to find anywhere (like a checkbox) that will also output the column headings to the flat file.

Now I can add in Headings manually in the properties of the Flat File Destination object but the columns that appear in the flat file don€™t appear to be in the order that I requested them in the SQL.

So the question is how do I automatically have the column headings appear for flat file output (ideally without me having to manually add them in).

If it can€™t be done and I have to use a vb.net script instead then would anyone have an example script of how to do it?

Thanks in advance for anyone who manages to answer this.

Matt.

Reporting Services :: SSRS Group Total To Contain Values Of Specific Groups Only

May 25, 2015

I have a requirement to display the total of a Group after subtracting a specific value from the same Group.

Example: Say the below data is grouped on a particular column

Group Values Month

Jan-15 Feb-15 Mar-15

A 10 20 30
B 5 10 25
C 1 2 3
D 5 10 15

Total 11 22 33

Formula is :  Sum(A+C+D)- Sum(B)

What is the best way to Group the above scenario from SSRS level and display the result as shown above. I am able to display all the values except the last total row where am displaying the complete total i.e. 21  42  73.

How do I dynamically subtract the values for row B which is one of the group values.

SQL Server 2012 :: Calculate Number Of Groups And Group Size With Multiple Criteria

Jun 15, 2015

I need to calculate the last two columns (noofgrp and grpsize) No of Groups (count of Clientid) and Group Size (number of clients in each group) according to begtim and endtime. So I tried the following in the first Temp table

GrpSize= count(clientid) over (partition by begtime,endtime) else 0 end
and in the second Temp Table, I have
select
,GrpSize=sum(grpsize)
,NoofGrp=count(distinct grpsize)
From Temp1

The issue is for the date of 5/26, the begtime and endtime are not consistent. in Grp1 (group 1) all clients starts the session at 1030 and ends at 1200 (90 minutes session) except one who starts at 11 and end at 1200 (row 8). For this client since his/her endtime is the same as others, I want that client to be in the first group(Grp1). Reverse is true for the second group (Grp2). All clients begtime is 12:30 and endtime is 1400 but clientid=2 (row 9) who begtime =1230 but endtime = 1300. However, since this client begtime is the same as the rest, I wan that client to be in the second group (grp2) My partition over creates 4 groups rather than two.

Dynamic RDL Group Title

Jan 10, 2007

I'm new to these forums. If this is not the right place to post this question, please let me know where I should ask. :)

Anyway, I have a report that is grouped something like this:

Team
Location
Score

TEAM 1
#Loc#
#Total#

Home
10

Away
14

Away
8

NULL
0

NULL
0

Home
14

TEAM 2
#Loc#
#Total#

Home
10

Away
14

Home
19

NULL
0

Home
14

TEAM 3
#Loc#
#Total#

Away
7

Away
12

For each team grouping, the header columns needs to perform an action on the grouped records to determine the text.

The #Total# header is easy -- here I want a total of the points ( =Sum(Fields!Points.Value) ). No problem.

The #Loc# header is the problem. What I want to do is to count the number of "Home" values in the group (so Team 1 location reads "Home (2 of 6)", and Team 2 location reads "Home (3 of 5)"). If there are no "Home" values, I want to use the "Away" value (so Team 3 location reads "Away (2 of 2)").

Can someone tell me how I can create a custom code function that will allow me to iterate through the values of the grouped records from the group header textbox? I assume I need to be able to create a custom aggregate function of some kind, but I don't quite know where to begin.

Thanks for your help.

Joe

Problem With Matrix (in Subreport, Multiple Groups), Groups Repeating First Row Data

Jan 25, 2008

I have a new SQL 2005 (SP2) Reporting Services server to which I've just upgraded and deployed some SSRS 2000 reports.

I have a subreport that contains a matrix with two groups. The report data seems to be inexplicably repeating the data for the first row in the group for all rows in the group. Example:

ID1
ID2
DisplayData

1
1
A

1
2
B

1
3
C

2
1
A

2
2
B

2
3
C

Parent group is on ID1, child group is on ID2, report would show:

1
1
A

2
A

3
A

2
1
A

2
A

3
A

Is this a matrix bug in 2005 SP2, or do I need to do something differently? I can no longer pull a comparison version from an SSRS 2000 server to verify, but I believe it was working as expected before...

Dynamic Grouping Group Header Problem

Jan 23, 2007

Hi, I am currently trying to create a report the dynamicaly groups from parameters. The grouping part works fine but I need to show the parameter label name or the field referenced by a parameter.

=iif(Parameters!Param1.Value="P",Parameters!Param2.Label,Fields(Parameters!Param1.Value).Value)

This is the expression I have written to do this. The problem seems to be is with the true part of the iif statement. The false displays fine in the group header. The Parameters!Param2.Label also displays if used on its own.

This is the error that is fires back when I run the report.

The Value expression for the textbox €˜textbox4€™ contains an error: The expression referenced a non-existing field in the fields collection.

I am quite new to SSRS and I am using VS2005 pro.

Thanks

Possible To Access No. Rows In Groups Outside The Table?

Mar 22, 2007

Hi there,

I'm currently grouping data on some criteria, the way the data works basically means that there are between 2-3 groups guaranteed (no more).  In the Group Header I have CountRows(table1_group) thus giving me the total number of rows in each group at the top of each grouping.  However, I need to do a calculation in a textbox above the table using these row counts.  The method of grouping is not too difficult when using the VB syntax in the grouping expression but more difficult to get the same effect from the SQL side and hence I don't want to have separate datasets calling different queries to get the information that way.  Is there anyway to get access to these row counts on the groups?  Reporting Services can't know how many groups there will be before processing so I'm not sure that this is possible?  Ideally I suppose if there was a Group CountRows collection of some kind that could be accessed in an expression in the textbox or custom code then this might be possible. I could also add an invisible column and set the values to something specific depending on the group if there was a way to count the number of values in the table (unique values repeated in columns in a group, but unique to that group).

Any help is much appreciated,
Thanks.

File Groups: Moving A Large Table

May 8, 2007

We have recently added a new file group and file on a new drive. We have tested it by moving a small table to the new file group. We would like to relocate a new table to this file group but the table is about (we estimate) 75GB. My question is this: How long can we expect the transfer of data from the current file group to the new one for this table? I understand that depending on our hardware the answer may vary but does anyone have a rough estimate?

The current current (primary) file is located on a DELL SAN and the new secondary group is on a EMC 4700 both are connected via fiber channel.

Also a bonus question would be: Does a "normal" database backup created as a maintenance plan backup the seconary data as well into the BAK file?

Like I said a rough estimate is fine.

Many thanks,

Scott

I am building partitiong tables, partitioning on different file groups:

the question is:

Partitioned table referred to old data that are not frequent accessed for reporting can be stored on separate location(External storage, tape and so on) or to make partitioning functioning must all file groups must be presents?

If not, how can I separate old data from current ones (still using partitioning) to reduce the size of DB?

What it is the best for storage data and easy to access it when needs arise (eg reporting): Tape, external storage, others?

So I get Data, Total Order Count, Completed Count, Abandoned Count, etc. I'm returning this data to Excel for display. My original thought was seperate queries, but some of the data will not have a count so the ordering would be off. Any ideas?

Force IS To Use Column Headings

Feb 2, 2006

Hi,
I've got an IS package which reads a lot of records from a text file and loads that into the database. The text file has column such as Firstname, Lastname, phone number etc and same as the database table.

The problem:
IS works fine if I have the text file columns in the same order as the database columns but for example if have phone number in the place of firstname (in the text file) IS puts the phone numbers as firstname in the database and moves all the columns dow the order.

Is there anyway I could force IS to use the heading names in the text file and put it in the appropriate database columns?

Thanks guys...
