Dynamic Destination Address In SSIS Packages

Apr 26, 2007

Hi,

I am using VS.net 2003 as a front end and SQL server 2005 backend.

i am creating SSIS packages for Datatransformation programically in .NET.

but the package created is compatible to the previous version of SQL server ie SQL server 2000.

So i need to migrate it in SSIS package compatible to SQL server 2005.

it is migrate also using Data Transformation migration wizard.

But i want to migrate my DTS package programically or by using stored procedure.

Is there any stored procedure or any code is there from which i can migrate DTS into SSIS ?

Thank you

SSIS Packages With Different Destination Databases... Removing Original DB Reference

Feb 26, 2007

Hi All,

OK, so I have an SSIS package that I build using the "test" database as the destination. Now I want to execute it using another database as the destination. This is basically for an installation script where the source is always the same, an access database.

So here I have:

"C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90DTSBinnDTExec.exe" /file e:data_import.dtsx /CONNECTION DestinationConnectionOLEDB;""Data Source=(local);Initial Catalog=Test2DB;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Auto Translate=False;""

Which works (sort of). It does try to import the data into "Test2DB", but what happens is all of the destination tables in the dtsx package have names like [test1db].[dbo].[tablename]

So my question is: is there a way to remove the databasename reference in the table names for all 195 tables in my database without doing it manually?

Thanks in advance.

Dynamic SSIS Packages

Apr 2, 2008

Hello All,

I have 5 SSIS Packages out of which 1 is the parent package which calls the other 4 packages.

There are some database connections in my child packages.

Now, I want to make the packages dynamic.

I have two options.

1) Have all the connection information in the parent package and pass those values to the child packages. This way I'll be having only 1 configuration, the one for the Parent.

2) Have a separate configuration file for each package that will have all the connection related informations.

What is the better practice ?

Thanks & Regards,
Kapadia Shalin P.

SSIS Packages Dynamic Connections

Nov 8, 2006

1) We are doing data migration from SQL Server 2000 OLTP design to SQL Server 2005 OLAP design.

2) We have used SSIS packages and data flow tasks in which we mentioned connection strings for source and target
containers.

3) We have a master execute package which contains series of execute packages in relational order.

4) When we execute this master package, we should be able to dynamically specify different source and connection
strings for all packages.

5) Can we do it with dtexec option /Conn[ection] IDOrName;ConnectionString
We know what to give for ID or Name but what do we give for ConnectionString. Will it be the source/target one? Can we specify both source and target ones with which the data flow packages get executed.

Dynamic Source And Dynamic Destination

Apr 15, 2008

I have a requirment which i have partly accomplished , but could not get through completely

i have a file which comes in a standard format ending with date and seq number ,

suppose , the file name is abc_yyyymmdd_01 , for first copy , if it is copied more then once the sequence number changes to 02 and 03 and keep going on .

then i need to transform those in to new file comma delimited destination file with a name abc_yyyymmdd,txt and others counting file counting record abc_count_yyyymmdd.txt. and move it to a designated folder. and the source file is then moved to archived folder

what i have taken apprach is

script task select source file --------------------> data flow task------------------------------------------> script task to destination file

dataflow task -------------------------> does count and copy in delimited format

what is happening here is i can accomlish a regular source file convert it to delimited destination file --------> and move it to destination folder with script task .

but cannot work the dynamic pick of a source file.

please advise with your comments or solution you have

Calling SSIS Packages From ASP.NET - Packages With File System Tasks End Abruptly

Jan 9, 2007

I've run into a problem with SSIS packages wherein tasks that write or copy files, or create or delete directories, quit execution without any hint of an error nor a failure message, when called from an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on any other machine than the one where the package was created from. By all indications it appeared to be an identity/permissions problem.

Our application involves a separate web server and database server. Both have SQL Server 2005 installed, but the application server originally only had Integration services. The packages are file system-deployed on the application server, and are called using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime methods. For all packages that involve file system tasks, the above problem occurs.

When the above packages are run using the command prompt (either DTEXEC or DTEXECUI) the packages execute just fine. This is expected since we are using an administrative account. However when a ShellExecute of the same command is called from ASP.NET, the same problem occurs.

I've tried giving administrative permissions to the ASPNET worker process user to no avail.

I have likewise attempted to use the SQL Server Agent job approach but that approach might not be acceptable for our clients since it means installing SQL Server 2005 Database services on the application server.

I have read the relevant threads in this forum, namely http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1044739&SiteID=1 and http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=927084&SiteID=1 but failed to find any solution appropriate for our set up.

Anybody got any idea on how to go about this?

Integration Services :: Remotely Execute Packages On SSIS Server - Packages Are Deployed In File System

Apr 22, 2015

We manage some SSIS servers, which has only SSIS and SSIS tools installed on them and not the sql server DB.

SSIS packages and configuration files are deployed on a NAS. We run the SSIS packages through DTEXEC by logging in to the server.

We want to allow developers to run their packages on their own on the server, but at the same time we dont want to give them physical access on the server i.e we do not want to add them into RDP users list on server properties. We want them to allow running their packages remotely on the server.

One way We could think of is by using powershell remoting and we are working on that. But is there any other way or any tool already present for the same.

C: empl_excel.xls

presently dts work in following order
1. set datasource of destination
from global varaibale(@@X)
2. execute xp_cmdshell to copy
C: empl_execel.xls to file in @@X
3.Run transformation

How to eliminate step 2 ?
If I run step 1 and 3 ,I get error "table does not exist"

Dynamic SQL Server Destination???

Dec 23, 2005

Hi,

Is there anyway to dynamically change the Sql Server Destination? Let's imagine i want the data to go to a table based on a specific parameter like year for example...

Imagine tables like table1_2005, table1_2006 and i want to dinamically change the SQL Server Destination so it would insert 2005 or 2006 and so on....

I can't seem to find that option... It was really a good idea for microsoft to implement Expressions in such components... Dynamics it's all about it :)

Dynamic Oledb Destination

Feb 5, 2006

Hello,

I am a beginner for the SSIS and would like to know how to modify the OLDEB Destination connectionString property at run time like using "for each loop container".

My requirement is that I have a single source which would be Sql Server 2005 and my destination is in MS-Access database residing in 100 places. I do not want to manually design in the data flow to these 100 destinations.

I have all the destinations stored in a table and would like to pick these destinations from the table and loop through the same at run time by modifying destination connection string.

I have planned using dts but the for each loop container does not work through as it works with flat file connection manager , but does not go well with OLDEB connection.

Highly appreciate any help in this regard.

Can't Recreate The Destination Connection For Packages Created By Import And Export Wizard

Hi,

I have a table need to export to excel. 3 columns are 4000k. I can create the ssis package by using import and export wizard and it works fine. But when I try to edit the destination connection for excel, like using another excel file. In the edit window, the Name of the Excel Sheet box is empty, I click new button. It always fail. (with the 3 columns created as varchar (4000) or nvarchar(4000).

I am wondering how import and export wizard can create this table which I can't create it manually?

For Example,

CustID, ProductID, Product Name, Product Description

Say I am going to write to a different Flat File for every product. So if there are 10 products in the data. There should be 10 Flat Files. Also the file name should include the Product Name And Product ID.

It is being done in a single Data Flow Task.

Right now the Property Expression for the File Name is which is not working)

Code Snippet@DestFolder + [Data Conversion].ProductID + @TodaysDate + ".txt"

The ProductIDs are in the ascending order. Any help or guidance?

Dynamic Multi-sheet Excel Destination

Feb 4, 2008

I need to take 5 or 6 select statements to excel. Here are my limitations...

- each of the queries (thankfully) have the same data format
- each of the queries could return more than 65k, so a new worksheet needs to be generated dynamically.
- the names of the excel worksheets need to be custom, but a naming scheme would have to be developed for queries that ran over into multiple worksheets.

What's the smartest way to do this?

I'm having a hard time getting my head around this. I would love any help... I know I'm not breaking any new ground here. I've found pieces of what I'm doing on lots of forums, but never the exact thing. The complexities compound quickly when dealing with dynamic excel worksheets. =)

Dynamic Columns For Flat File Destination?

Jul 10, 2006

I have a database app, and we're implementing various data export features using SSIS.

Basically, it's a couple of straight extracts of various recordsets/views, etc. to CSV (flat files) from our SQL Server 2005 database, so I'm creating an SSIS package for each of these datasets.

So far, so good, but my problem comes here: My requirements call for users to select from a list of available columns the fields that they want to include in their exported file. Then, the package should run, but only output the columns specified by the user.

Does anyone have any idea as to the best way to accomplish this? To recap, at design time, I know which columns the users will have to choose from, but at run time, they will specify the columns to export to the flat file.

Any help or guidance here is greatly appreciated

Dynamic Destination Flat File Loading

Jan 4, 2006

Here's what I want to do -

Dynamically load a flat file from a dynamic source table-

The source table metadata is known via the SYSOBJECTS and SYSCOLUMNS tables- I can pull the column names, type and lengths from these tables based on the table name. (my goal is pretty simple- pull data from a table in our database, and save it down to a flat file)

Would this be enough to dynamically create the destination flat file?  If so, how do I do it?

Thanks

Will MS Address SSIS?

Aug 29, 2006

Whoever implemented this... needs fired. If its not done fine.

But its still pretty much unusable.

I have a simple 5 text files I need to import... no brainer, they are all comma delimeted.

Works great in 2000 DTS. I import the package it blows up, will take me hours to get right "Converting" all the columns. These are simple text fields, ive learned not to even attempt anything else.

Are they basically "done" with SSIS? And just letting us wade through the horror that is SSIS?

I am pondering creating a dw but with all my diverse data sources I couldnt dream of the endless hours upon hours i would have to spend to get it to work with SSIS.

Or maybe someone can explain to me how to easily turn off these stupid trucation, conversion errors it is determined to force upon my dts packages.

Uhg, about to uninstall 2005 and go back to 2000... I can't schedule a "legacy" dts package to run on sql2005 without the nightmare of "dtsrun"...

Dynamic Packages And Maxconcurrentexecutables

Jul 18, 2007

I have recently prototyped a system, in which I use meta data to build a package of execute package tasks.

Essentially, in a Script task I do the following:

1) Create a new package in memory.

2) I add variables, logging to this package.

3) To allow for precedences I create a sequence container for any and all execute pacakge tasks that can run in parallel.

4) To help with parameters specific to the execute package task, I add another sequnce container for the individual excute package task.

5) Finally I add the actual execute package task.

6) Save the package to local disk.

7) Execute this pacakge.

I hadn't been setting explicitly setting the MaxConcurrentExecutables, but upon opening the saved copy of the last package I built and executed it has the default -1 setting.

My problem is that while this in-memory package is running it appears to be only running a single executalbe at a time. I'm going to try setting maxconcurrentexecutable to 4 or some other number to see if I get some parallel execution going on.

The real question is "Is there a limitation on using dynamic packages that limits them to only run a single executable at a time?". I haven't found anything in BOL that leads me to believe there is, but It was very obvious that only one executable would run at a time when I test this out.

Dynamic Excel Destination Depend On Dataflow Data

I created a data flow with complaicated SQL. There is "type" field in the output column.

I would like to created excel files for each "type" value

E.g. If there is 3 "type" values (A, B, C), I would like to create 3 excel files to store type A, type B, and type C data respectively.

Since the number of possibe value of "type" field is various, how can I create the xls destination dynamic and move the correct type to the corresponding excel file?

The conditional split has fixed conditions, it is not suitable for by dynamic number of value

For Loop condition is not a good choice because I need to run the complicated SQL for many time.

Dynamic Logging Properties In MS SQL DTS Packages

Feb 7, 2007

Since I can't seem tofind the Microsoft SQL 2000 forum, I will post this here:

I currently have logging enable on several of my packages.
However, we are still in development of our packages and are reaching upwards
of 100 and logging will eventually need to be active on all of them. In
production, there will still be a development server and a production server,
both with different server names and user id/pwd.

I am looking for a way to dynamically change the logon information for the
logging so that we do not have to have someone go through and manually change
the options. I have tried using Dynamic Properties Task, but this only works on
the 2nd run of the package.

As a second question: can anyone explain to me why the errordescription field
in sysdtssteplog is cut short?

Dynamic Destination Table Issue - Can't Find Solution In Archives

Oct 11, 2007

I have searched the archives and haven't found a solution that works.

I started out with a package based on the Excel import wizard and have modified it to include a for each loop for processing more than one Excel source file and also modified it to do some dynamic SQL like dropping and creating the tables with names that are variable based. The package is cabable of processing more than one file, and each file has the same data elements or columns in it, but each file has to go in it's own table. The drop and preperation tasks use string variable SQL that does dynamically create the SQL and runs great. The data flow task and it's OLE destination task (which the wizard did intially create) does not perform as expected. There were some posts in the archives stating that for dynamic destination table names it can be done in the OLE destination but I can't get it to work. I tried using an access mode of table/view name variable and select a variable that is string expression based. But this variable isn't fully populated until run time and so when I'm trying to configure this I get a msg stating the table name object doesn't exist and I can't save the task.

Am I doing something wrong, or trying to do something that wrong way or trying to do something that isn't possible?

How To Create Dynamic Folder Which Contains All The Files Which Are Used By All The Packages In A Project

Mar 19, 2008

Hi,
My Problem goes Like this....

I have a folder which contains all the flat files which are used by all the packages(ex--flat file connection managers) in my project.
If we want to change the name of the folder, have to change in every package( in all connection managers) manually. It looks hardcoding and timetaking.

Is there any way to change in one place(xml, file, variable) so that it should be affected in all the packages.

one more doubt is..

If we configure the flat file connection manager in package configurations, configuration file (ex-xml)will be created (we can make changes in that file regarding that connecion mgr only.)

But i want one configuration file (ex--xml) so that i should configure the details of all the connection managers used in all packages.

Integration Services :: SSIS Package To Split Address Into 3 Fields

Jun 10, 2015

I have a table that I am using in a package to create an extract from. In that table is an address field called "Street" that is 255 characters in length. My table also has 3 additional fields called address_1, address_2 and address_3 that are each 50 characters in length because that is the requirement for my extract. I need to split the address field up in such a way that if it is longer than 50 characters, it backs up to the first  space in the address prior to character #50, puts that info in street1, then from that cut off point used in street1, puts the next 50 up to the prior blank space in street2, then the remainder in street3. Where the extract will be used only has three 50 character fields so if the data runs more than 150 characters, the street3 data will just have to be truncated. No way around that, but I don't anticipate any address getting close to that long. Although doing such a split would be much easier using SQL, the solution requirement is that it be done in the package, not using SQL to do so.

I'm assuming I need to use a "derived column transformation" in my data flow. But, I can't figure out how to do what I need to do with a derived column transformation.

Example of info in an address:
123 Chicamauga Avenue South, Across the Street from International Center Square, Apartment Number 17650 Tokiwa-machi  Machida

position 1-50:
123 Chicamauga Avenue South, Across the Street fro

Therefore, Street1 would need to get:
123 Chicamauga Avenue South, Across the Street

[code]....
