I have an integration code write in T-SQL. It´s a TRIGGER that when some data is INSERTED on a specific table, verify the first caracter of a nvarchar on the column named "idCli", and depending on their value, call one specific stored procedure that will execute some data modifications to fit on other table on a diferent database.
Each client of mine can have only one table that start the trigger on APP1, but can have many instances of SQL for different codes.
Until now, what we do is:
Find how many different databases (and their names) a specific client have to APP2 and write a specific stored procedure for each database, using the names (that are always different...). We use a template of course, but this don't change the fact the we must correct many times the database name on the different stored procedures.
This increse the time and chance of errors on installing the system.
The first way we think for solve this question is using dinamic sql, like this code:

This type of code has the advantege (we think) to permit us change only the TRIGGER, and use always the same number of procedures on install.
Is there any security problem to do this type of code?
Even if the @table_name and @valor are determined by the program?
In case of yes, how can I do something like this, or, if this is not possible, how can I "automate" the creation of the procedures with a variable number of choices (like 2 different tables for client A, 5 for client B, etc)?

Oct 13, 2015I would like to have a dynamic trigger on INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE. (each their own trigger).
What i want, is the trigger to log what has happened with the record. For the insert trigger, i would like to select all columns and put them in 1 column to my logging table. For the update trigger, i need the same, however for both of the old and new items.
For example:

Proc With Dynamic Query Hang When Insert Trigger Fires....
Feb 16, 2005Need to parsing serverName and databaseName to run a dynamic query to get serverName and databaseName and employee_ID via a accountID parameter.

above dynamic query works fine.
Howevery, this should be run only under insertion event. When I put it in a proc to run within the insertion trigger or put the whole sql statement within the trigger:
1. when ran at a MSDE server
MSDTC on server is unavailable.
2. when ran at a SQL2000 developer testing server with the distributed transaction coordinator on, the insertion a record in the isql/w hang there. Could not even to kill this query, and have to stop and restart the SQL server.
Then I just want to return the dynamic query result without 'insert into temp1 ', the result is still hang...
Is there a way to let the insert trigger to run a dyanamic query which linked to around 10 servers?

Nov 4, 2015Within a trigger, I'm trying to create a unique table name (using the NEWID()) which I can store the data that is found in the inserted and deleted tables.

Set @SQLStr= 'Select * into [TMPIns' + @newID + '] from inserted'
Exec (@SQLStr)
I get the following error: Invalid object name 'inserted'
I know I can do:
Select * into #inserted from inserted
Set @SQLStr= 'Select * into [TMPIns' + @newID + '] from #inserted'
Exec (@SQLStr)
But I don't want to use TempDB as these tables can become big and I also feel that it is redundant. Is there a way to avoid the creation of #inserted?

Our company is planning to use SSIS (VS 2005 / SQL Server 2005). I have a quick question
regarding the product. I have looked for the information on the web, but was not able to find
relevant information.
We are getting Source data from two of our client in the form of Excel Sheet. These Excel sheets
Are generated using reporting services. On examining the excel sheet, I found out that the name
Of the columns contain data itself, so the names are not static such as Jan 2007 Sales, Feb 2007 Sales etc etc.
And even the number of columns are not static. It depends upon the range of date selected by the user.
I wanted to know, if there is a way to import Excel sheet using Integration Services by defining the position
Of column, instead of column name and I am not sure if there is a way for me to import excel with dynamic
Number of columns.

Hi Anthony, I am glad the Web cast was helpful.
Kamal and I have both moved on to other teams in MSFT and I am a little rusty in that area, though in general dynamic numbers of columns in any format is always tricky. I am just assuming its not feasible for you to try and get the source for SSIS a little closer to home, e.g. rather than using Excel output from Reporting Services, use the same/some form of the query/data source that RS is using.
I suggest you post a question on the SSIS forum on MSDN and you should get some good answers.

SSRS 2005 - Email Report On Execution To Dynamic List With Dynamic Parameters = No Schedule

I have a need to display on screen AND email a pdf report to email addresses specified at run time, executing the report with a parameter specified by the user. I have looked into data driven subscriptions, but it seems this is based on scheduling. Unfortunately for the majority of the project I will only have access to SQL 2005 Standard Edition (Production system is Enterprise), so I cannot investigate thoroughly.
So, is this possible using data driven subscriptions? Scenario is:
1. User enters parameter used for query, as well as email addresses.
2. Report is generated and displayed on screen.
3. Report is emailed to addresses specified by user.
Any tips on how to get this working?

Merge Replication W/ Dynamic Row Filter - Not 'dynamic' After First Initial Sync?
May 2, 2007If anyone could confirm...
SQL Server 2000 SP4 to multiple SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition on PDAs. My DB on SQL2k is published with a single dynamic row filter using host_name() on my 'parent' table and also join filters from parent to child tables. The row filter uses joins to other tables elsewhere that are not published to evaluate what data is allowed through the filter.
E.g. Published parent table that contains suppliers names, etc. while child table is suppliers' products. The filter queries host_name(s) linked to suppliers in unpublished table elsewhere.
First initial sync with snapshot is correct and as I expected - PDA receives only the data from parent (and thus child tables) that matches the row filter for the host_name provided.
However - in my scenario host_name <--> suppliers may later be updated E.g. more suppliers assigned to a PDA for use or vice versa. But when I merge the mobile DB, the new data is not downloaded? Tried re-running snapshot, etc., no change.
Question: I thought the filters would remain dynamic and be applied on each sync?
I run a 'harmless' update on parent table using TSQL e.g. "update table set 'X' = 'X'" and re-sync. Now the new parent records are downloaded - but the child records are not!
Question: I wonder why if parent records are supplied, why not child records?
If I delete existing DB and sync new, I get the updated snapshot and all is well - until more data added back at server...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible (or not) to have dynamic filters run during second or subsequent merge?

Mixing Dynamic SQL With Non-Dynamic In Stored Proc

One column on the Assembly Table is a Function Name that contains some busniess rules.
OK, now I'm doing a Proof of Concept and I'm stumped.
Huuuuh!
I will ultimately have about 100 of these things. My plan was using Dynamic SQL to go execute the function.
Note: The function just returns a bit.

CLR-Based Trigger? Recursive Trigger? Common Table Expression?

I'm new to this whole SQL Server 2005 thing as well as database design and I've read up on various ways I can integrate business constraints into my database. I'm not sure which way applies to me, but I could use a helping hand in the right direction.
A quick explanation of the various tables I'm dealing with:
WBS - the Work Breakdown Structure, for example: A - Widget 1, AA - Widget 1 Subsystem 1, and etc.
Impacts - the Risk or Opportunity impacts for the weights of a part/assembly. (See Assemblies have Impacts below)
Allocations - the review of the product in question, say Widget 1, in terms of various weight totals, including all parts. Example - September allocation, Initial Demo allocation, etc. Mostly used for weight history and trending
Parts - There are hundreds of Parts which will eventually lead to thousands. Each part has a WBS element. [Seems redundant, but parts are managed in-house, and WBS elements are cross-company and issued by the Government]
Parts have Allocations - For weight history and trending (see Allocations). Example, Nut 17 can have a September 1st allocation, a September 5th allocation, etc.
Assemblies - Parts are assemblies by themselves and can belong to multiple assemblies. Now, there can be multiple parts on a product, say, an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), and so those parts can belong to a higher "assembly" [For example, there can be 3 Nut 17's (lower assembly) on Widget 1 Subsystem 2 (higher assembly) and 4 more on Widget 1 Subsystem 5, etc.]. What I'm concerned about is ensuring that the weight roll-ups are accurate for all of the assemblies.
Assemblies have Impacts - There is a risk and opportunity impact setup modeled into this design to allow for a risk or opportunity to be marked on a per-assembly level. That's all this table represents.
A part is allocated a weight and then assigned to an assembly. The Assemblies table holds this hierarchical information - the lower assembly and the higher one, both of which are Parts entries in the [Parts have Allocations] table.
Therefore, to ensure proper weight roll ups in the [Parts have Allocations] table on a per part-basis, I would like to check for any inserts, updates, deletes on both the [Parts have Allocations] table as well as the [Assemblies] table and then re-calculate the weight roll up for every assembly. Now, I'm not sure if this is a huge performance hog, but I do need to keep all the information as up-to-date and as accurate as possible. As such, I'm not sure which method is even correct, although it seems an AFTER DML trigger is in order (from what I've gathered thus far). Keep in mind, this trigger needs to go through and check every WBS or Part and then go through and check all of it's associated assemblies and then ensure the weights are correct by re-summing the weights listed.

The trick was getting the Table Name and the Primary Key Columns.

Using the examples given in Books Online returns compilation errors. See below.

Dynamic Source And Dynamic Destination
Apr 15, 2008I have a requirment which i have partly accomplished , but could not get through completely
i have a file which comes in a standard format ending with date and seq number ,
suppose , the file name is abc_yyyymmdd_01 , for first copy , if it is copied more then once the sequence number changes to 02 and 03 and keep going on .
then i need to transform those in to new file comma delimited destination file with a name abc_yyyymmdd,txt and others counting file counting record abc_count_yyyymmdd.txt. and move it to a designated folder. and the source file is then moved to archived folder
what i have taken apprach is
script task select source file --------------------> data flow task------------------------------------------> script task to destination file
dataflow task -------------------------> does count and copy in delimited format
what is happening here is i can accomlish a regular source file convert it to delimited destination file --------> and move it to destination folder with script task .
but cannot work the dynamic pick of a source file.
please advise with your comments or solution you have

sample file name:
Unique identifier + query output + systemdate();
The expression is looking like this.
@[User::FilePath] + @[User::FileName] + ".CSV"
-- user filepath is a variable from ssis package. File name is the output from SQL query. using script task i have assigned the values to @[User::FileName] .
When I debugged the script task the value getting properly but same variable am using for Flafile destination. but its not working.

Jul 23, 2005When a row gets modified and it invokes a trigger, we would like to beable to update the row that was modified inside the trigger. This is(basically) how we are doing it now:CREATE TRIGGER trTBL ON TBLFOR UPDATE, INSERT, DELETEasupdate TBLset fld = 'value'from inserted, TBLwhere inserted.id= TBL.id....This work fine but it seems like it could be optimized. Clearly we arehaving to scan the entire table again to update the row. But shouldn'tthe trigger already know which row invoked it. Do we have to scan thetable again for this row or is their some syntax that allows us toupdate the row that invoked the trigger. If not, why. It seems likethis would be a fairly common task. Thanks.

I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this question.
I run an update statement like "Update mytable set status='S' " on the SQL 2005 management Studio.
When I run "select * from mytable" for a few seconds all status = "S". After a few seconds all status turn to "H".
This is a behaviour when you have an update trigger for the table. But I don't see any triggers under this table.
What else would cause the database automatically change my update?
Could there be any other place I should look for an update trigger on this table?

Hi all in .net I've created an application that allows creation of triggers, i also want to allow the deletion of triggers.
The trigger name is kept in a table, and apon deleting the record i want to use the field name to delete the trigger
I have the following Trigger
the error is at
DROP TRIGGER @DeleteTrigger
I'm guessing it dosen't like the trigger name being a variable instead of a static name
how do i get around this?

Dynamic Columns For Dynamic SQL
Mar 9, 2007I have created a dynamic SQL program that returns a range of columns (1 -12) based on the date range the user may select. Each dynamic column is month based, however, the date range may overlap from one year to another. Thus, the beginning month for one selection may be October 2005, while another may have the beginning month of January 2007.
Basically, the dynamic SQL is a derived Pivot table. The problem that I need to resolve is how do I now use this dynamic result set in a Report. Please keep in mind that the name of the columns change based on the date range select.
I have come to understand that a dynamic anything is a moving target!
Please advise.
Trigger Doesn't Log Into The Audit Table If The Column Of Table Has Trigger On Is Null

I have a trigger set on TABLE1 so that any update to this column should set off trigger to write to the AUDIT log table, it works fine otherwise but not the very first time when table1 has null in the column. if i comment out
and i.req_fname <> d.req_fname from the where clause then it works fine the first time too. Seems like null value of the column is messing things up
Any thoughts?

Trigger Not Execute Some Data Or Insert Not Execute A Trigger For Some Data
Mar 3, 2008I have trigger, but not execute somedata because insert few row in every second. I use java to insert data to SQL server 2005. Data inserted to a table but not executing trigger for some data.
For example 100 data every second inserted to a table.
If insert data one by one to a table trigger fires success.
Please Help me.
Dynamic SQL
Sep 21, 2007I need to pass all values of field of a table into a parameter. My table contains a field called typeID, there are 15 typeID in the table. Currently when a user choses a single type they see a report for that type. I want to give them the ability to run a report on all types. My thinking is that I should just be able to pass all typeID values into a string and pass it to the stored Proc... but being new at sql and this truley being the first thing I have ever done in it... I am missing the mark.
Param is @TypeID
Here is the sql to exec the stored proc:USE [db]

I know this is not the actual SP, I am just trying to get it to work, then I will be able to write the proc. It should be something like @Option = 1 AND 2 or 1 & 2 or something to that nature?

Is it possible to author a stored procedure with dynamic sql inside,
I need the SP for search purposes, take that i have a number of search criterions
represented by a number of text boxes in the front-end web app, so if the users fills up the text box i will include it in the search condition ....
It's so easy to do it in the code-behind file by the means of a dynamic string with the search clauses appended to it, but i wanna do it with SPs

We are creating an Ad Hoc query tool for our Voters Profile system. Voters Profile Table has voting history for person. It has columns like : G04 P04 G03 P03 G02 P02 G01 P01 G00 P00 and History
G = general election P = primary election xx = represent year
G04 etc columns has value = "Y" if person voted in that year else its null
If Person A voted in General Election in year 2004 and Primary Election in 2003 then
History Column = G04P03
Now, we need to create a Ad Hoc Query where people ask for:
"Give me a list of People who votes in All 4 general election"
OR
"Give me a list of people who voted 2 times in Primary Election"
In order to do such query what we should do? Can some one help?
