Dynamically Populating An IN() Clause Within An SSIS Package.
May 9, 2007
Hi,
I currently have a list of User IDs (in a flat file) and I need to connect to a database I have read-only access to, so that I can retrieve additional data about these users.
I imagined a package that ran a query something like:
SELECT * FROM table WHERE UserID IN (<dynamically populated from flat file>).
Can somebody give me some advice as to how I can achieve this (either the way I suggested or another way).
I would like to fetch the data flow component name while package is executing. Since system variable named [System::SourceName] only fetches name of the control flow tasks? Is there a way to capture them?
Hi, I am new to SSIS and i have to develop a ssis package which will run in a production machine through VB.Net(2003) exe.I am facing a problem while setting connection string of SSIS package dynamically. Can anybody help me on this?
Trying to figure out the best method of reading in a number of flat files, all with different number of columns and data types and outputting them to a database.
Here's the problem: They are EBCDIC encoded and some of the columns are packed decimal. I've set up one package that takes the flat file, unpacks the decimal (Using UnpackDecimal component) and then sending the rest through a second component to go from EBCDIC -> ASCII.
What I need is a way to do this for every flat file based on the schema for that flat file. One current solution is to write a script/app to create the .dtsx XML file and then execute that for each flat file. It appears like this may be possible, but I haven't gotten far enough to know for sure. So my questions are this:
1) Is there an easier way to do this (ie somehow feed the schema to the package and use it to dynamically set up the column makers and determine which columns get fed to the unpack decimal component.
2) If there isn't a better way, will dynamically creating the .dtsx XML file based on the necessary input/output columns for each flat file work? If so, what is a good source of information on this (information about how the .dtsx XML file is set up, what needs to be changed/what doesn't, etc).
I am looking high and low for some assistance with developing a VB .NET solution that I programmatically create a package and add tasks. I am adding a BULK INSERT task to load large FLAT TEXT files into SQL Server 2005 tables. When I execute the application I execute a package validation and it always returns FAILURE. I have been reading and searching like crazy and I have bought 2 microsoft books, TO NO AVAIL! Can anyone PLEASE help me with this. Thank you!
I am trying to dynamically create the connection to a database within an SSIS package.
the requirement is to allow the user to pass through the database as a variable and that variable will dynamically create the connection string in the connection manager.
I have create packages which loads the data from flat file to sql server table, now I want to make my destination table connection dynamic what is format of connection string. I also need to pass user name and password for sql server dynamically in this case, what is the format for the connection string.
Also in package i used ADO.net as source for *.mdb files how i can set the commection to .mdb files dynamically which is used as source in my package.
And i want to use SSIS package dynamically load data from database into three separate flat file, each table into each file.
I know i got to use for each loop task ADO.Net schema row set enumerator, with OLEDB connection manager, select table name or view name variable from access mode list, but the problem comes, as table name is dynamic then flat file connection is also dynamic, i am using visual studio 2013...
I look trough the forum, but did not find any simular problem. Somebody, help, please! What I need to do is to write an algorithm which create a FROM clause for SQL query, using tables and joined fields, specified by the user. There could be up to 25 tables with any type of join (INNER, OUTER, FULL, CROSS). I know the basic structure of the FROM clause: "from T1 inner(or other type) join T2 on T1.field=T2.field" etc., but the main problem that users can specify tables in any order and I have to re-arrange them to create valid statement.
I have a report and in it there is a dataset that of course contains a query. I want the query conditions to be changed automatically (the 'WHERE' clause) according to the environment it runs on, so if I put the same report on different customer computers, it will act differently according to the relevant 'WHERE' clause conditions. Is it possible to use a parameter or "solution configurations" (or something else) in order to decide the conditions in the 'WHERE' clause? Help will be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.
What I need?: A way of dynamically inserting a list in the WHERE clause of a query. (in the form, WHERE ID = 1,2,3,6,9 etc)
Imagine an example DB with 3 columns Student ID, Name, Teacher_ID. (Lets assume Teacher_ID with value 100 means its the Headmaster)
I need to create a list with Student ID's, who are directly/indirectly under the Headmaster. Example:
Headmaster Teacher 1 (ID 200) Teacher 2 (ID 250) Student 1 (ID 300) Director Teacher 4 Student 5
In the above example, since I only want those students/teachers under the headmaster, either directly/indirectly, my list would contain Teacher 1, Teacher 2, and Student 1. (In my case, just their ID's, so 200, 250, 300)
Director, Teacher 4 and Teacher 5 wouldnt be in the list since theyre not directly/indirectly Headmaster.
I have created SP in SQL 2K5 and make the where clause as parameter in the Sp. i am passing the where clause from my UI(ie ASP.NET), when i pass the where clause to SP i am not able to fetch the results as per the given criteria.
WhereClause from UI: whereClause="where DefectImpact='High'"
SQL Query in SP: SELECT @sql='select * from tablename'
Exec(@sql + @whereClause )
Here i am not able to get the results based on the search criteria. Instead i am getting all the results.
I have a flat file with columns from a geographical hierarchy such as:
Country Zone State County City Store Sub Store , etc.
The file also has data columns for months to the right of the above columns such as:
Jul Aug Sept ......... basically 25 of these columns for two years' data for one product and another set of 25 columns for another kind of product. A typical record in the file looks like:
Country Zone State County City Store Substore
USA Southeast FL Hillsborough Tampa walmart Fletcher
I need to upload this data into a staging table in SQL Server 2005 using SSIS, I created a table with the geographical hierarchy columns but am trying to figure out a way to load the monthly data. I can create 50 columns for the 50 months ( 25 months for each product) but that would be very crude.
Is there a better way of inserting data from this flat file into a destination table? I need all the data in the staging table in one upload.
I want to change Set clause of Update Statement dynamically based on some condition.
Basically i have 2 Update statments having same FROM clause and same JOIN clause.
Only diff is SET clause and 1 Where condition.
So i am trying to combine 2 Update statements into 1 and trying to avoid visit to same table twice.
Update t Set CASE **WHEN Isnull(td.IsPosted, 0) = 0 THEN t.AODYD = td.ODYD** *ELSE t.DAODYD = td.ODYD* END From #ReportData As t Join @CIR AS tmp On t.RowId = tmp.Max_RowId
Hey, I've a few jobs which call SSIS packages. If I run the SSIS package, it runs fine but if I try to run the job which calls this package, it fails. Can someone help me troubleshoot this issue? None of my jobs that call an SSIS package work. All of them fail.
Hi all, I am able to pick the complete path of a file name into a variable using "foreachloop container" (e.g :- c:dpakab.xls). How should i pass this file name in excel source. And how excel source will pick sheet name from this(ab.xls) file. I will have to flow the data from excel to access and i must have to select file name by using variable. Can any one help me? I will be thankful.
I'd like to be able to call different packages from a control flow. These packages will have different requirements for parameters therefore I'd like to create them dynamically.
Is this possible? Can I do it using a script task?
We are trying to schedule a SSIS package as a job in the SQL Agent. However, we need to schedule the job dynamically. There is no fixed date (or period) when this job runs.
Is it possible to dynamically schedule the job? The next execution date can be stored in a database table or a config file, etc.
If not, then perhaps we can include a task at the top of the Control Flow, which, will check if the package needs to execute "today". For this the job will have to be scheduled on a daily basis.
And there is a task (Execute SSIS package) in First package that calls the execution of second package.
I m continuously receiving an error "Failed to decrypt protected XML node "PackagePassword" with error 0x8009000B "Key not valid for use in specified state.". You may not be authorized to access this information. This error occurs when there is a cryptographic error. Verify that the correct key is available."
As we are running first package by job, job runs successfully logging above error
The protection level of second package is set to "EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey"
i am transfering the table from one database to csv file format..i did it.. again i want to shift that csv files to another databse as tables. how to do this task.. pls help me.. its very urgent..out TL had given me the dead line.. send reply soon....
I have an ssis package that contains a DateTime variable named RefDate its value saved in the package is 8/31/2006. I setted up a Package configuration for read the value of RefDate from the parent package.I inserted a script task with message box to verify that the package configuration works. When I launch the parent package the message box shows the value of RefDate setted in the parent package. The problem is that when I use RefDate to dynamically set the connection string of the log connection of the SSIS log provider for XML files for the child package, the connection string contains the child value of RefDate.
I have one share folder ,every month end-user will copy & paste excel file into particular share folder. Ok . Now i have to create new SSIS package as schedule should run every month to find the file and then load automatically into Sql server tables and then move those excel file to another share folder if file successfully loaded only. The excel file name will be changing every month. but the format wont change. If any body knows this process or steps. Please share with me .
Hi everybody, i'm a newbie to SSIS and I'm having a problem dynamically creating a new excel spreadsheet in SSIS. What I need to do is be able to dynamically create a brand new Excel spreadsheet after a data flow task completes.
I've just started using SQL Server 2005 Integration Services and I've come up against a situation where I need to name output files dynamically (i.e. based on a timestmap). Looking through this newsgroup, and other web resources it looks like my only option is to use a Script Task/ActiveX Script Task to rename the file after it has been created with a generic file name. I was wondering if there was a different approach or if there was a way to pass in a variable to the file connection manager that I could append to the file name at run-time.
I would like to modify "Files" attribute of the Foreach Loop of type File Enumerator. This attribute is used to set the mask (for example *.txt) to specify which files to include in the selection. I need to be able to change this mask dynamically depending on package global variable. Is this possible?
In my SSIS package I have a loop container that I am running the same code against 4 servers. I have the package export the SQL data to an Excel spreadsheet that has multiple tabs.
Is there a way I can change the tab on the fly or do I need to create a Connection for the same spreadsheet 4 times Each Connection pointing to a different tab?
I tried to set up a expression for the Excel Connection Manager to use the InitialCatalog for the tab and change it based on the script in the loop however this causes the following error:
An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E21 Description: "Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.". Cannot create an OLE DB accessor. Verify that the column metadata is valid.
I seem to be missing something with SQL 2005 SSIS and I am wondering how I would accomplish my taks. With SQL 2000 and DTS we designed our DTS packages so that we could load one file or database from start to finish. We then have controlling programs written in VB that will monitor directories, when a file shows up in a directory it loads the package, changes the necessary properties and executes it. These programs handle all of our error notifications and dealing with the files afterwards, making sure files are complete in the directory before the DTS runs, etc. With .NET and SQL 2005 I have learned that I can change the properties by using variables and expressions, which I think would handle all of our situation but I can not run them remotely. The documentation says that I could setup a scheduled job and then call sp_start_job from my program. That seems like it would require a lot of scheduled jobs and then I still need to get the parameters into the packages. The other option is to use a web service, that would require IIS on my SQL box which everywhere says I don't want. Am I using SSIS for something I am not supposed to be or how do I accomplish this in 2005? I have noticed that you can not even run packages through the SQL Server Management Studio. We have a number of packages that are built that are run on demand when needed. In SQL 2000 I could just click and execute the package. In 2005 is my only option to setup some sort of fake job in the job scheduler?
I have an issue where I'm trying to export data from Sql Server tables (or from a result set in a SP or view) into Excel Spreadsheets. Normally I would use a simple data flow to do this. However, I need to do this on-the-fly because the schema of the Sql data is not static. The table could be a different one or the result set would have column schema that is not always the same.
The constant in all of this is that the spreadsheet columns and the table (or result set) column schema is identical. It's just that the column count and column names are not defined at design time, but would need to be defined at runtime.
Going from Excel to Sql Server is simple as I used a Script Task and the SQLBulkCopy class to dynamically transfer the data. However, BOL says that it's only one way (Data to Sql Server). Basically I need the to go the opposite direction now.
I have all of the information (SQL Table server, database, schema, and name and the Excel file path and name) already set up in variables and running through a ForEach container and I can dynamically change the variable information. I just need to figure out how to dynamically map the columns, create the spreadsheet file, and load the data into the spreadsheet. I'm sure this has been tossed around before. If someone could point me in the right direction I would most grateful.
So this one has been bugging me for a while and I am ready to punt...
Is it possible to dynamically create a text file destination in SSIS and then pump the results of a query stored in a variable to this text file?
So my package looks like this 1) SQL task that pulls back a list of tables to be exported 2) For Each Loop ADO enum that passes the table name to a SQL Task that builds the select...ie select * from <DTS.Variables()> 3) Data flow task that sets the command from variable from step 2 4) Text File destinaiton that is built using a varable as the connectionstring
I am delaying validation in steps3 and 4 above without any luck...basically I am curious if i can even do what I am thinking I should be able to do here...I get as far as getting metadata errors because SSIS can't seem to handle dynamically filling the pipeline with the columns from the variable/SQL statement.
