EM DTS Designer ODBC Source As A File DSN Doesn't Work!

Hi All there!
I am quite new in MS SQL administration so let me explain how it work
on Your instances of SQL Servers.
We have several DTS packages on our server, all of them managed on
some station which have seriously hardvare problem. So we wolud like
to catch two problems at one time and decided to develop systematic
way of DTS manipulation.
One of several aspects of this operation would be migration from
system ODBC data sources definitions into file ODBC sources ( .dsn
files) in order to make them easier to manage ( backup for example,
and even reusability on other workstations). All .dsn files should be
located on some network resource (\server\directory...) which would
be set as default ODBC directory in ODBC administrator on management
station.
When I begin to do so, then it apears that EM DTS Designer does not
remember the path to the DSN files ( for example on design panel I
chose file dsn and by browse button point at the certain .dsn file,
and then after DTS save the path disapears).
Do You use this facility ( file .dsn) in DTS EM Designer, or maybe MS
has it treated as usless, and nobody wants to use this?

my package contains
Two connections ==> one is using OLEDB connecting to SQL server 2005 and the other using ADO.NET's ODBC option to connect to mysql;
Two "Execute SQL Task" ==> one gets maximum ID(bigint) from a SQL server table and the other gets the maximum ID(unsigned) from a mysql's table and bind them to two variables ID1(string) and ID2 (int 64). http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1902297&SiteID=17&mode=1 ;
And one DataFlow whose data source is DataReader Source which queries mysql "select * from table where ID > cast(@ID1 as signed) and ID <= cast(@ID2 as signed) ". To debug, I put a DataViewer between Data Flow Source and Data Flow Destination.
Run the package, I found no data coming into DataViewer and no error message as well. However if I remove the "<=" sign and change the DataReader Source query to "select * from table where ID > cast(@ID1 as signed)", It works perfectly. Initially I thought it's variable @ID2's issue. But if I replace "<=" sign with ">=" sign in the query ==> "select * from table where ID >= (cast(@ID2 as signed) -100)", there is no problem. After tried many times, I found that query just doesn't work with "<" sign or "between". Plus the result of running package tells it's successful but just no records got inserted into Data Flow Destination.

I am now trying to recreate this query using ODBC and am having one helluva problem with it as it doesn't seem to like many of the functions I've used, such as LTRIM, RTRIM, LEN, RIGHT and won't accept the parameter I've included, or any other parameter come to think of it.
Has anyone else had a similar problem at all, and could you direct me to a solution if you have?

I've installed SQL Express SP1 on a Windows 2003 server and I'm trying to get a new MySQL datasource to be recognized in the DTSWizard. A MySQL database needs to be moved over to a MS SQL server due to software requirements (which weren't looked at before the site was created). I've installed the ODBC Connector/MySQL software and created the System DSN (named "MySQL DB Import) in the Administrative Tools/Data Sources (ODBC) tool. When I start up the DTS wizard for SQL Express however, I do not get my new data source in the selection options for data sources. It's well known issue, that one can't use any dataset fields in a
report header/footer directly. One of the approach is to create
query-based parameter that basically equals
=First(Fields!@FieldName@.Value, "@DataSetName@") and use that
parameter value instead. But it doesn't work in my case!
My report displays some entity description and is parametrized with
EntityID param. Its header contains entity name that, according to the
approach, is queried from the data source through the EntityName
report parameter. There's important issue: the report is displayed in
ReportViewer control, that is embedded into my application and entity
ID parameter isn't ser by user in ReportViewer parameters area. Its
default value is changed by the application with SetReportParameters()
web method every time a user wants to view the report according to the
entity the user is exploring in the application. But after the report
has been rendered, its header always contains not actual (outdated)
entity name. Nevertheless, the report body contains actual data
(including entity name). If I alter entity ID parameter in ReportViewer
or in web-based Report Manager and refresh report, header displays
correct entity name.
What's wrong in the workflow described?

Unlike SQL Server 2000 DTS, SSIS Flat File Connection Manager Editor does not provide available list of Text qualifier,
i tried

but the same query can run without any problem on a SQL 2000 server run on a server in the same network.
Any idea?

This problem is a bit weird but I'm just wondering if anybody else experienced this.
I have a package that has file system tasks (copying dtsx files actually). Basically the package copies other packages to a pre-defined destination. Thing is, it only works if one of the packages it is configured to copy has some sort of sensitive data (e.g., a connectionstring with a password), otherwise it reports a success message on execution but doesn't actually do anything. I've checked the forcedexecutionresult and it is set to None for that matter.
Just wondering if anybody else experienced this problem and of course if there's a way to solve it.

Good day everyone,
I have implemented a simple package that has only a Data Flow Task in the Control Flow. The corresponding Data Flow Components are as follows (in the correct order):
1. A Flat File Source adpater which parses a file containing circa 1 million rows.
2. A Script Component that generates IDs for two of my destination tables.
3. A Mulicast Component that distributes all the columns retrieved from the source file as well as the 2 generated keys.
4. Four OLE DB Destination adapters where I insert the data from the different columns together with the generated keys as primary or foreign keys respectively.
My questions are mainly about how the "Flat File Source" and "OLE DB Destination" work behind the scenes.
Questions:
A. "Flat File Source" adapter:
Does the "Flat File Source" adapter load all the rows from the source file into the memory and then start pushing the rows one by one into the data flow?
My concern is actually about the huge sizes of my import files, which might eat up the memory.
Or does the "Flat File Source" adapter load a certain number of rows, pushes them into the pipeline and then fetches the next batch based on a certain configuration?
B. "OLE DB Destination":
I have set the four OLE DB destinations to "Fast Load" with a commit size of 5,000.
Can I ever run into the problem of having for instance 10,000 records inserted in Table1, but only 5,000 inserted in Table2. The error case I am thinking about is as follows:
After the second commit on Table1, an erroneous record occurs during the insertion in Table2. Thus, the second commit for Table2 gets rolled back and the whole package fails.
In this case, I get an inconsistent state in my database.
In other words, how can I synchronize the commit operation in all my destination tables, s.t. they either all commit the same batch or all do not commit it?

in both vs2008 I added a ReportViewer control to my WinForm, intending to render an RS 2005 report remotely. In the design pane (Report Viewer Tasks Popup) I specify <server report>,
URL http://server name/reportserver$instance name
path /folder/report name
and everything is fine.
When I set these values in c# as
reportViewer1.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Remote;
reportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new Uri("http://server name/reportserver$instance name");
reportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportPath = "/folder/report name";
I started getting a msg saying "the source of the report definition has not been specified". If I hit refresh, the report renders. Before I started playing with the designer setting, and only had the c# stuff specified, I wouldnt even get the message, the control would appear with all RS buttons (eg page forward arrow etc) disabled.
Does anybody know why the message is appearing and how to get c#'s settings to work immediately like designer settings?

I'm pretty new to DTS, so forgive me if this is basic. I created a simple DTS package to run a query and export it to a text file. I can execute the package fine from my workstation through EM, but when I try to execute the job to run the package I get this error:
Error = -2147467259 (80004005) Error string: Error opening datafile: Access is denied.
I think that maybe SQL Agent doesn't have the right permissions to write to that network drive. What should the permissions be?

This is probably very simple, but I can't get passed this problem.
I have a report in MS Access that uses info generated by a query. One of the text fields in the query contains either the word 'Select' or the name of a course.
The report should display a space if the value is 'Select', or the actual value of the field in any other case. The field can never contain a null value.
I've used:
=IIf([optVoc1]="Select","",[optVoc1])
in the text box on the report, but this only returns #error regardless of the actual content of the field.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi all,
I create and schedule a SQL job to run every minute to update a table base on certain condition but it doesn't work. Job history says successful every time but the table doesn't get updated.
However if I move it to Query Analyzer and run it under dba, it will work. Thinking that it may have to do with the user the job run as, I then change run as user from self to dba. But still SQL job won't update my table.
Anything about user permission or security that I can check? Or it there any other possibility?

When I try to install the problem I get the following error.
The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually."
The log tells me nothing useful. I can't start the thing manually because after clicking cancel on the error message, the installer proceeds to roll back the installation.
How do I fix this problem?

I have 2 data sources that have recently been updated from SQL Express to full versions of 2005. The connection strings have been changed, and the changes appear in the code, but the data source designer still shows the SQLExpress portion of the connection string. This seems to be fouling up SSIS packages that are using these data sources. Has anyone else encountered this? If so, what can I do to fix this issue?

I try to copy a DB from one server to another. On the target server an older version of the DB has been deleted and I now try to attach the new version using "sp_attach_db DBname, Filelocation", but I always get an error "Device Activation error. The physical file name 'D:mssql7dataAgency_log.ldf' may be incorrect"
"Database 'Agency' cannot be Created"
To me it seems that the database is looking for the log files (now deleted).
I've tried forcing a new log file I created using the same locations for the mdfs. I've tried using create a new database and replace the mdf file, but nothing works.

I'm working with mssql 6.5
I have an primary key column with Identity property.
And at the moment server doesn't insert the proper value to this column.
Error message is following
Msg 2601, Level 14, State 3
Attempt to insert duplicate key row in object 'Spot' with unique index 'XPKSpot'
Command has been aborted.
The datatype of this column is int, and number of rows ~17000.
If I execute select @@identity it returns null.

I'm combining first name, last name, middle name, and an ID number together into an alias. Then I need to match that alias with a variable passed to the page (its a search results page). The problem is it claims that there is no table with the name of my alias. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
A mockup of the SQL looks like this:
SELECT UserID, Last_Name + ', ' + First_Name + ' ' + Middle_Name + '.' AS name
FROM Table
WHERE name LIKE 'variable%'
Everything looks right with the results, if I take out the WHERE clause it has name displayed properly and joined together with the rest of the data in the results properly.

I have a drill through that passes four parameters. Three are passed from the current selections in that reports parameters and the fourth needs to be the customer name they click on in the body of the report so it's passed as Fields!fieldname.Value. When I click on the customer name, the drillthough fires but the report simply doesn't load. If I remove the parameter from the field clicked on and just pass the three parameters, it goes to the drill through correctly and that fourth parameter just sets to the default for that parameter in that report.
I can then simply check that parameter and select the value from the list that is exactly the same as the value I was attempting to pass it in the drill through and report refreshes correctly.
Whatever it is, is something in the manner that the value is passed in the drill through specifically.
Any ideas?

I've rescued a MDF and LDF files off a client's old server, and I wanted to attach it to our own, but I can't seem to get the command to work, basically I have these two files, which I've dropped on our server:

So when I do a
SP_ATTACH_SINGLE_FILE_DB 'somedb','C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLDataMYCLIENTNAME_Data.MDF'
It says the LDF path my be incorrect, and that there's two other files that are missing:
MYCLIENTNAME_LOG (no extension)
extra_log (no extension)
I thought the whole point of the command is that you only need a single file?
Its very hard to go back to the client's old server and try to find these two files, and it doesn't really matter if we loose a bit of data, so long as the bulk of it is available.
Update: I think I've found the answer...its not possible to do this, it really needs all the log files.
Any workarounds?

WHY? Note that the conversion to VARBINARY was moved from the call to DecryptByKeyAutoCert to the call to cc2_Helper2. That is the only change...
But if I declare @vBin as VARBINARY(256) then it does work! Guess I'm a little confused on declaring vars...anyone can elucidate? Thanks.

In the Data Source Wizard the "insert,delete,update" advanced options are greyed out.
The table's PK is not an identity, but a uniqueidentifier.

I have been looking at this for over a day now. I cannot see why this procedure does not work, its so simple.
No matter what happens it always returns 0. If it locates a record, it doesnt update it, yet it still returns 0.
It should not be returning 0 if its not updating so I can't figure out why it does.
Why does this always return 0?
