EXECUTING A SQL STATEMENT AGAINST DATA FIELD

HELLO I'M NEW OF SQL SERVER. I'VE BEEN CHARGED BY MY COMPANY TO MOVE THE MDB WHICH WE WORKED TILL NOW TO SQL.
OBVIOUSLY I HAVE NOW TO CREATE THE DATABASE'S UPGRADING PROCEDURES WE WERE USING ON ACCESS.
MY PURPOSE IS TO MAKE RUN THE FOLLOWIG PROCEDURE, ONLY IF THE VALUE OF THE FIELD 'UPTGRD11' IS EQUAL AT '1', BELOW THE SQL STATEMENT I'M USING.
THIS OPTION IN ACCESS IS VERY EASY, BY MACRO OR BY VBA, I'M NOT ABEL TO DO IT IN T-SQL
IT DOESN'T RUN LIKE THAT
IF 'dbo.uptgrdt.uptgrd11' = '1'
BUT IT RUNS USING IS NOT NULL
IF 'dbo.uptgrdt.uptgrd11' IS NOT NULL
is there an easy way to do what i'm trying to?

Hello All!!
Below is a part of my code. I need to find out if I could execute the below statement.
select @string_sortorder = 'select max(sortorder) from geo_lineobj where pipeid = ' + str(@geo_pipeid)
select @string_sortorder
exec @string_sortorder @max_sortorder
When I select the @max_sortorder the value I'm getting is a null. The sortorder is an int datatype and the @geo_pipeid is also an int datatype.
I need to to get the @max_sortorder to continue my coding. Does anyone know why I'm getting a null @max_sortorder?
Any suggestion would be of great help.

Here's a little script to find the currently executing statement. I put this together to get around a couple of limitations in DBCC INPUTBUFFER:
1) The 255 character output limit ... often I would get the "CREATE PROCEDURE" statement and the first couple of variable declarations, and that's it.
2) The fact that, in a multi-statement batch, you get the entire thing. This gives you the currently executing statement, not batch.
So, without further ado ...

Hello,
I need to dynamically construct sql script for procedure/trigger of the SQL
Server 6.5 database. Because of length, I need to store it in a text field
of the temporary table. Now I need to execute it.
I see only two choices:
1. Use bcp utility to pass text of procedure/trigger to the text file on
hard drive and the use isql utility to execute that text.
Drawbacks of this way: bcp and isql must be in place, need to write to the
use's hard drive, overhead for large number of modifying objects
2. Declare up to 255 (this is the max number of colid column in the
syscomments table) local variables of varchar(255) type, get sequential
chunks from that text field and build final statement like this:
exec(@var1 + @var2 + ... + @var255)
Drawbacks: need to keep truck of length of the text field to calculate
right number of local variables, and it looks a little bit ugly
While both ways work, I am looking for more nicer way to do this job.
Does anybody know another way to do this?

I have multiple SqlDataSources on a page. I only want them to execute the select query when the user performs a certain action. Is this possible? Or do they all execute as soon as the page is loaded?

I have been attempting to load a SQL Server table by extracting data from Oracle using a parameterized query. I need to retrieve the Oracle data from views where the key equals a specific value. The values are based on data from other Oracle tables.
I was able to create a file that contains 1 row for each key value in the syntax of "select .... from viewname where key = value". I'd like to be able to loop through the file, execute each statement, and load the resultant row(s) into a SQL Server table.
I looked at the ForEach container, but it appears to only list the files in a directory. I thought I was on the right track using the Execute SQL Task, but I could not figure out how to get the data loaded into SQL.
Any help would be greatly appreicated. Consider me an SSIS novice.

I am trying to simulate the <sequence name>.nextval of oracle in SQL Server 2000.
The situation is that i need to be able to run programmatically INSERT statements. In Oracle I am able to do INSERT INTO TABLE_A (ID, NAME) VALUES (TABLE_A_SEQUENCE.NEXTVAL, 'MIKKO') in a single prepared statement in my code.
I know that to recreate this in SQL Server 2000 I need to create a stored procedure and table to set up a way to generate "the next value" to use in my INSERT. but the schema below forces me to do my insert in 2 steps (first, to get the next value. second, to use that value in the INSERT statement), since I cannot execute the stored procedure inside my INSERT statement.
Is there any way for me to generate values within my INSERT statement that would simulate Oracle's <sequence name>.nextval and allow me to execute my INSERT in 1 line of code?

Hi,
I am novice to SQL reporting services.
I have created a report using SSRS.
In this report I would like to show a column value as button and wants to execute vbscript code on click.
Or at least execute vbscript code on click of that field (button is just an option!)
The code will launch another application (exe file or else)
Help in this regard would be appreciated.

Hi,
I have written a stored proc to bulk insert the data from a data file.
I have a requirement that i need to insert the data into a table of which the name is not known. I mean to say that the table name will be passed as a parameter to the stored proc. And also i need to insert the date that will also be passed as the parameter to the stored proc
The follwing statement works fine if i give the table name directly in the query

Does anyone know of a way to execute sql code from a dynamically builttext field?Before beginning, let me state that I know this db architecture isbuilt solely for frustration and I hope to make it better soon.Unfortunately, there is never a non-crucial time in which we can do anupgrade, so we are stuck for now.Point 1:There are multiple tables: students, courses, cross-referencestudent/courses, teachers, cross-reference teacher/courses, andothers.Point 2:Yearly archiving is done by appending a 2 digit year suffix to thetable and rebuilding the table structure for the current year. Thatis, each of the tables named above has an archive table for 1999,2000, 2001, etc. This leads to many tables and a big mess whenunioning them.Point 3:A history report is run by building a big query that unions each unionof tables (students, courses, etc) by year. This query has grown toobig for a varchar(8000) field. Actually, it's too big for 2 of them.Point 4:I don't want to write code to maintain any more varchar(8000) fieldsfor this query. It should be much more easily handled with atemporary table holding each bit of yearly archive data. I have builtthis and it works fine. I have also figured out how to pull the rowsfrom that table, concatenate them, and insert the resulting lump intoa text field in another table.Point 5:I haven't figured out how to grab the 5 or so records from that tableand execute them on their own. I figured I could grab them, put theminto a text field that's big enough to hold the whole query and thenselect and execute that text field. I've had no luck with that and Ihaven't had any luck finding any references that might help me withthis problem. I have created a trigger on a table that get's too many updates so to analyze what records and what columns get updates I have coded a trigger that inserts into a table the record key and a flag on each column to let me know what is updates. Now that I am presenting the data to the developers I have been asked to provide the update / insert or delete statement
So on my trigger I have tried using dynamic management views but its returning the actual trigger code not the parent SQL Script that triggered it.
This is what I am using.

Does anyone know if this is a SQL Native Client bug? I've read a previous thread (posted back on Jan. 18th, 2007) about this error, but there are no replies. I am getting this error when I issue the sp_setapprole command using sqlexecdirect() ODBC api call. Is there any way to work around this? Or is there a fix to the SQL Native Client? The error 15002 message text states "The procedure sys.sp_setapprole cannot be executed within a transaction". This is on a new connection so there should be no transactions active at the time. Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide on this.

Date2 = returns another date value in this case 09/03/2015
What I'm trying to do is: count distinct number of people (Fields!Name.Value) if the Relased_DT = Date2.My IIF statement is returning a zero value.

I embedded a SQL query in excel that gets some datetime fields like "TASK_FINISH_DATE" .
How can I convert a datetime field to a date field in SQL in a way that excel will recognize it as a date type and not a text type?
I tried:
CONVERT(varchar(8),TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CONVERT(Date,TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CAST(TASK_FINISH_DATE as date)
**all of the above returned text objectes in excel and not date objects.

I have a web application using Stored Procedure (SP). I see that there's a SP taking long time to execute. I try to capture it by Profiler Tool, and find out that with the same SP on the same db with the same parameter. The duration of executing by my web app is far bigger than the duration of executing on SQl server management studio - query window

We have a stock code table with a description field and a brand field - when the data was entered, some of the records were entered with the brand field in the description field.
ie.

what I need to do is identify where the Brand is in the Description field ...

Hi all,I am facing an unusual issue here. I have a stored procedure, that return different set of result when I execute it from .NET component compare to when I execute it from SQL Management Studio. But as soon as I recompile the stored procedure, both will return the same results.This started to really annoying me, any thoughts or solution? Thanks very much guys

I am passing a parameter and executing two tables and grabbing it's data.. In the future I will put the code into a store-procedure.

declare @id varchar(20), @MEMBER_ID varchar(20)

Select id from emp Where MEMBER_ID = @MEMBER_ID
--Okay, Next I need to execute another table and pass in the id

Currently, the emp table displays ie. 100 records that matches the member id 55555.. But the second select is empty.. And I need to display email data for the 100 records that were selected from the emp table..
I hope is it not confusing what I am trying to do..
Please tell me how to do it..

Is there anyway to determine what the resulting Field Names are going to be from a SQL Statement?
For example:
SELECT TABLE1.FIELD1, TABLE1.FIELD2, TABLE1.FIELD3, TABLE2.FIELD1 AS ANOTHERNAME
FROM TABLE1 INNER JOIN TABLE2 ON TABLE1.PK = TABLE2.FK
resulting field names:
FIELD1
FIELD2
FIELD3
ANOTHERNAME
Seems easy enough splitting all values before "FROM" by comma and doing some manipulation to remove table names and anything before the word "AS". However, it gets more difficult when you have complex CASE statements embedded in you query that may also contain commas.
Just a shot in the dark because I don't know if anyone has already done something like this before.

hey out there,
just started playing with this so bare with me...
i've used the data export wizard to create a dts package in sql server 2000. the package takes selected tables, creates an access database and then dumps all the data into the tables.
it works fine when i run the package in enterprise manager, but when i call it from asp.net (vb.net) the access database gets created, the tables are created but it fails to dump the data!

I am sure I am missing something really silly but I am not able to figure out what. The For Each Loop uses an ADO Enumerator and passes variable values to a data flow. In executing the package the loop runs fine but nothing is happening to the data flow. When I move the data flow out of the loop it runs fine. What is going on?
