I have taken on a contract to improve reporting for an old HR database that was developed using FoxPro (Visual FoxPro, I think) with the data stored in SQL Server 2000. There are no foreign keys in SQL Server 2000 so the relationships are maintained inside FoxPro.Is there a way of extracting the relationships from the FoxPro code and generate foreign keys in SQL Server, so that I can do proper design?

DTS Works, Job Fails!(data Source Foxpro And Destination SQL Server 2000

Sep 26, 2006

The DTS works perfectly when I run it manually. However, when I run itas a job it fails. Before you ask if i'm running it under differentsecurity context. I have already made sure of that. I was logged intothe server through remote viewer, when I created and ran the package,as well as scheduling the job. So the accounts they're running underare consistent. They're the same accounts as the SQL Agent is runningunder and it's the sys admin account. The data source is a Fox pro database with a pull of two tables. I amusing Microsoft OLE DB Foxpro driver as my source connection and OLE DBConnection for SQL Server as my destination. I am doing a simple tableto table transformation. The path of my connection is a mapped Drive:E:Main. There are other packages and jobs within my job queue that arepointing to the same database and they seem to run fine using the abovemapped drive. The ONLY difference between this package and otherpackages are that, they're few months old and this one was created lastnight. I have also enabled logging on this package and here is thebelow error when the job fails:Package Steps execution information:Step 'DTSStep_DTSDataPumpTask_1' failedStep Error Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxProStep Error Description:Invalid path or file name.Step Error code: 80040E21Step Error Help File:Step Error Help Context ID:0Step Execution Started: 9/23/2006 11:39:17 AMStep Execution Completed: 9/23/2006 11:39:17 AMTotal Step Execution Time: 0.031 secondsProgress count in Step: 0

DTS Import To SQL Server 2000 From Visual FoxPro

May 17, 2007

Greetings,

I am unsure if this is the correct forum to send this question, but I can't seem to find any information regarding this problem. If this is the wrong place, please direct me to the correct spot.

I am attempting to import data from a free tables FoxPro database to SQL 2000 using a DTS Package which has worked correctly every day for the past 2 years. Yesterday, I got an error.

The package has around 10 tables that it deletes, re-creates, and populates with data from the Foxpro. All of the tables except one work correctly.

When I try to do an explicit import using the ODBC connection to populate that one table, I get the following error: Context: Error calling Openrowset on the provider.

I created an access database on my local computer and setup an ODBC connection and link tables to the database to see if it would work, and it did. So I thought there might be something wrong with the ODBC data source on the SQL Server, so I deleted it and created a new one, used it and I receive the same error.

I thank you in advance for any assistance or direction you can provide me for finding an answer.

Dec 28, 2007

Hey Guys,Total Number of Records (Based on 5 fields): 1000Total Unique Records (Based on 5 Fields): 990Total number of fields: 5I have question regarding extracting duplicates from the dataset. Ihave 2 fields that makes a record unique. I have used group byfunction to find duplicates and got 10 records that are duplicating. Each records duplicating 1 times, thus, 10 unique records and 10duplicates, giving me 990 unique records out of 1000.Now, I want to filter out duplicates from the dataset and get uniquerecords, including all 5 fields. Here is the query that I used.select *from (select field1, field2, count(*)from table 1group by field 1, field2having count(*) >1)a,table 1 bwhere a.field1=b.field1 and a.field2=b.field2When I use this query, it gives me duplicate records as i am matchingon both fields that makes records unique. Is there anyway to justextract unique records?Thank you very much for your help.--AP

Where should I start debugging?

FoxPro Triggers Call FoxPro Stored Proc Calls SQL Server Stored Procedure

Mar 10, 2005

I didn't want to maintain similar/identical tables in a legacy FoxPro system and another system with SQL Server back end. Both systems are active, but some tables are shared.

Initially I was going to use a Linked Server to the FoxPro to pull the FP data when needed. This works. But, I've come up with what I believe is a better solution. Keep in mind that these tables are largely static - occassional changes, edits.

I will do a 1 time DTS from FP into SQL Server tables.

I then create INSERT and UPDATE triggers within FoxPro.

These triggers fire a stored procedure in FoxPro that establishes a connection to the SQL Server and fire the appropriate stored procedure on SQL Server to CREATE and/or UPDATE the corresponding table there.

In the end - the tables are local to both apps.

If the UPDATES or TRIGGERS fail I write to an error log - and in that rare case - I can manually fix. I could set it up to email me from within FoxPro as well if needed.

Here's the FoxPro and SQL Server code for reference for the Record Insert:

FOXPRO employee.dbf InsertTrigger:
employee_insert_trigger(VAL(Employee.ep_pk),Employ ee.fname,Employee.lname,Employee.email,Employee.us er_login,Employee.phone)

FOXPRO corresponding Stored Procedure:

Bit-data From SQL Server 2000 (2005 Working, 2000 Doesn't)

May 19, 2008

Hi, I am trying to edit some data from a SQL2000-datasource in ASP.NET 2.0 and have a problem with a column that has bit-data and is used for selection. SQL2005 works fine when declaring             <SelectParameters>                <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="TRUE" Name="APL" Type="boolean" />            </SelectParameters>When running this code with SQL2000, there are no error-msgs, but after editing a record the "APL"-column looses its value of 1 and is set to 0. Looks like an issue with type-conversion, we've hit incompatibilities between SQL200 and 2005 with bit/boolean several times before. So, how is this done correctly with SQL2000?  (I've tried setting the Type to "int16" -> err. Also setting Defval="1" gave an err) ThanksMichael

Upsizing Access 2000 DB To SQL Server 2005 Express Edition

Jul 26, 2006

Hi

I have an Access 2000 Database which I am upsizing to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The Database has 29 tables and 60 stored queries. Each time I upsize to SQL Server the tables come in fine but non of the queries are imported.

All of the queries are very simple Select, Insert, Update and Delete Queries with nothing special in them.

I have tried using the upsizing wizard in Access 2003 and also the SQL Server 2005 Migration Assistant for Access.

Is there anything special I need to do in the migration assistant to ensure that the queries are imported as well.

Cheers

Access SQL Server 2005 EXPRESS From SQL Server 2000?

Feb 18, 2008

I have just acquired my first root server (Microsoft Windows Server 2003) to run a lightly used ASP application. I installed SQL Server Express 2005 on the server and the application works just fine. The problem is that I cannot access the SQL database on the server from my local computer that is running SQL Server 2000 Developer.

Please note the following:
1) I can access the server database (2005 Express) from a computer that is running SQL 2005 developer.
2) I can access other servers that are running non-EXPRESS versions of SQL 2005 from my computer (which is running SQL 2000)

Thus my question is:
Is there some kind of limitation or required setting in SQL Server Express to allow remote connections from SQL 2000?

Remember - I CAN access the database remotely using SQL 2005, just not SQL 2000.

I am using SQL Query Analyzer to try to access the database from my local computer using the same connection parameters that work on my SQL 2005 computer in Management Studio.

Thanks for any help!

Synchronizing Foxpro .DBFs Data With SQL Server Tables (realtime)????

Mar 16, 2008

Is it possible to use SSIS to synchronize the data between a Foxpro .dbf and a compatible SQL Server table on a near realtime basis?

I have succesfully created an SSIS package that will insert data into the SQL Server Table but this is only useful for migrating data. What I need is a way to insure that the data in the SQL Server table matches that in the .dbf on a near realtime basis.

Or is there a way to link from SQL Server to the .dbf (similar to an Oracle DBLink).

Thanks for any and all assistance.....

Extracting A Portion Of A String In SQL Server 2005

Apr 22, 2008

Hello, this seems simple but I've been banging my head a while.

I have a data field that is formated like this: NYT/2000-Subways/7510-Electronics Mtc/7540-Data Svcs.

I need to pull out the string after the second / and before the third / in this case the value is 7510-Electronics Mtc but it does change.

I have this function that returns the first value (NYT):

USE [Data_Warehouse]
GO
/****** Object: UserDefinedFunction [dbo].[Get_Dept] Script Date: 04/22/2008 09:22:49 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO

-- Provide the phrase before (ex. 'Worklog Related to'), the field searched (ex. UPDATE_ACTION), and
-- the phrase after (ex. ']').
-- This function returns the string found after any phrase and before any phrase, within any field searched.

ALTER FUNCTION [dbo].[Get_Dept](@in_Phrase_Before varchar(250),@in_Search_Field varchar(250))
RETURNS varchar(250)
AS
BEGIN
Declare @str_String As varchar(250)
Declare @tmp_String as varchar(250)
Set @str_String = null -- to clear the variable buffer

Set @in_Phrase_Before=char(37)+(LTrim(Rtrim(@in_Phrase_Before)))+char(37) -- if 'Null', all strings will be returned

If Left(@in_Search_Field,4) = 'NYT/'
BEGIN
Set @tmp_String = Right(@in_Search_Field,(len(@in_Search_Field) - 4 ) )
Set @in_Search_Field = @tmp_String
END

If (PatIndex(@in_Phrase_Before, @in_Search_Field)) > 0 --Checks to see if the phrase before is in the search field
Set @str_String=SubString(@in_Search_Field,1, (PatIndex(@in_Phrase_Before, @in_Search_Field)-1) )

Distributed Query From SS 2000 To Access Catalog Views On SS 2005 Via Linked Server

Aug 24, 2006

I am trying to write some admin only procedures which will collect information to one of my development server from other production and development servers.

I have created linked servers to access these other servers on the development server. This development server is SQL Server 2000 EE. Other servers which I want to access are 2000 and 2005 (vaious editions)

E.g I have another development server called PRODTEST which is SQL Server 2005 and on the development server I have created a linked server pointing to PRODTEST called TESTLINKSRV. I want to access new object catalog view (as I do not want to use sysobjects)

When I run the following query

SELECT * FROM [TESTLINKSRV].[DBNAME].[sys].[objects]

I get following error,

OLE DB error trace [Non-interface error:  OLE DB provider does not contain the table: ProviderName=' TESTLINKSRV ', TableName='" DBNAME "."sys"."objects"'].

Msg 7314, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

OLE DB provider ' TESTLINKSRV ' does not contain table '"DBNAME"."sys"."objects"'.  The table either does not exist or the current user does not have permissions on that table.

So I try this query

SELECT * FROM [TESTLINKSRV].[DBNAME].[sys.objects]

and I get following error

Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Invalid object name TESTLINKSRV.DBNAME.sys.objects'.

So bottom line is how do I access catalog views on a 2005 server from a 2000 server using linked server?

I hope someone understands what I am trying to achieve. Please let me know what is it that I am doing wrong.
Thank you

Extracting Binary Data From SQL DB To A Location On The Web Server

Mar 15, 2007

Hey all, WE have a document management system where by Adminstrators can upload documents, once the document is uploaded the binary data is stored on in a folder on the web server.  We used to stored the documents in the actaul db table, but we found that there were to many documents and it was using alot of space on db server. So my boss has decided we are now going to upload the binary data onto the web server.  Currently we are donig this with new documents which have been added or documents which are gettinguploaded when reloading, but there are many documents in the db table which have not been updated and are still embedded in the db table.  So i need to figure out how to go about copying the data storewd in the db table and storing it in web servers folder location. I've tried various things for a enitre day but im going round in circiles.                             MemoryStream mStream = new MemoryStream((Byte[])dtrResults["file"]);                            BinaryReader bReader = new BinaryReader(mStream);                            int intFileSize = (int)mStream.Length;                            Byte[] byteFile = (Byte[])dtrResults["file"]; i can get to this state but then how do i create a folder on the BinaryREader to then store the binary data of the file to the location.                             BinaryReader bReader2 = new BinaryReader(File.Open(strDocFolder + strSavedFileName, FileMode.Create));                            int count2 = bReader2.Read(byteFile, 0, intFileSize);                            bReader2.Close();i've also tried this but when the file gets created in the folder there is no content.  i do know that the file does contain content as ive tried this and downlaoding the file from that page acctually works                            string strContentTpe = WValue.WStr(dtrResults["contenttype"]);                            int intFileSize = VValue.VInt(dtrResults["filesize"]);                       /    Byte[] byteFile = ((Byte[])dtrResults["file"]);                            //Downloads the data correctly                           Response.ClearContent();                          Response.ClearHeaders();                           Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename="" + WValue.WStr(dtrResults["docfilename"]) + """);                           Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", WValue.WStr(intFileSize));                          Response.ContentType = strContentTpe;                           Response.BinaryWrite(byteFile); I hope ive made some snese andthat someone can hlep me. Have a nice dayZal
