Editing An Import/Export Package
Apr 17, 2008
Hi,
First post, new to SQL Server, the usual apologies apply ;-)
I used the Import/Export Wizard in SSIS to define a source and target for data migration. I accidentally omitted ticking off a box to force the drop and re-creation of the target table. I can't find any way to edit a package, once I've finished with the wizard! If someone would point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Chap

I created a package from the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard.I can run this .dtsx file " Import_Table.dtsx " on my local machine no problem, which then executes the package on the remote server of my hosting company.Do they need to install SQL Server on their machine for it to work?Is there some files they can download to make it work?

Hi, I have one package with a complex Control Flow. I need to import a dataflow from another package into it. Cut and Paste is working but it looks like my package corrupts after that. (for example, login to database has problem with authentication now)
Is there any import or export tool for this?

Hello All,
I am a newbe at MS SQL 2005, so if this has already been answered elsewhere, please just point me in the right direction.
I have successfully used the Import/Export wizard in "execute immediate" mode to import a table from Oracle 10g to MS SQL 2005. Works like a charm, but when I take the saved pacakge (saved as a *.dtsx server side file) - with no changes to the package and execute it from the either the "dos" prompt or from Windows explorer it fails at the login to Oracle step. Yet when I check the package's "Connection Managers" source connection, all the settings, user-ids and passwords look fine. The package does indeed execute, but I receive an ORA-01017:invalid username/password within the trace file of the package, but nothing has been changed from the Import/Export wizard which ran beatifully, thus verifying the appropriate acccess rights to Oracle.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a requirement to create many SSIS packages and no datatransform is required so the BCP task looks a good contender providing it can do both import & export
is it possible to parse the values in bold as package variables into the BCP task. If so how?
BULK INSERT ipcs_wvg.dbo.extract
FROM 'D:IPCSextract.csv'
WITH (FORMATFILE = 'D:ipcsqueryextract.xml');
Thanks in advance
Dave
I have a global database called ETL Configuration for all my SSIS packages that uses a single table. So I can create three global variables
USE [ETLConfiguration]
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[SSIS Configurations](
[ConfigurationFilter] [nvarchar](255) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NOT NULL,
[ConfiguredValue] [nvarchar](255) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NULL,
[PackagePath] [nvarchar](255) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NOT NULL,
[ConfiguredValueType] [nvarchar](20) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NOT NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]
Here is the data I would put in here
ConfigurationFilter = 'MySSISPackageName'
ConfiguredValue = 'D:IPCSextract.csv'
PackagePath = 'Package.Variables[User::gsFileName].Properties[Value]'
ConfiguredValueType = 'String'
ConfigurationFilter = 'MySSISPackageName'
ConfiguredValue = 'D:ipcsqueryextract.xml'
PackagePath = 'Package.Variables[User::gsFormatFile].Properties[Value]'
ConfiguredValueType = 'String'
ConfigurationFilter = 'MySSISPackageName'
ConfiguredValue = 'ipcs_wvg.dbo.extract'
PackagePath = 'Package.Variables[User::gsTableName].Properties[Value]'
ConfiguredValueType = 'String'
--Database connection info
ConfigurationFilter = 'MySSISPackageName'
ConfiguredValue = '.mssql2005'
PackagePath = 'Package.Connections[MyDatabaseName].Properties[ServerName]'
ConfiguredValueType = 'String'
ConfigurationFilter = 'MySSISPackageName'
ConfiguredValue = 'MyDatabaseName'
PackagePath = 'Package.Connections[MyDatabaseName].Properties[InitialCatalog]'
ConfiguredValueType = 'String'
I have looked at lots of options to automaticly create SSIS packages and have a hunch that that simple can be better: All these solutions look way to complex to what I want to achieve--

hello ,
I want to download data from an AS/400 to a SQL 2005 Database.
Within Sql server 2000 it was possible to do more than 1 transformation with just 1 source connenction and 1 destination.
In SSIS I have created:
- new solution
- data source
- Data source viewer ( I made named queries to format the data as i want it to be in Sql)
Although it is possible to view the named query data it does not seem to be possible to import the data in the data viewer into my sql 2005 database. (For each dataflow I have to define each query again)
I have added the data source in the connection manager.
Also I am searching to import more than 1 file in 1 package !
I can use however a Dts-2000 package but why then use SQL server 2005
Hope somebody can help me
Regard,
Ronny

Where is a package visible when running the Data Import/Export wizard, choosing to save a package, and choosing "SQL Server" as the location? When I make an SSIS connection in Management Studio I do not see the package under the "MSDB" node.

In response to my thread
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/showpost.aspx?postid=1574209&siteid=1
I have been informed that the best way to go about this is with a OLEDB object.
Can anyone advise me on how to do this, or provide me with a website saying how to?
Thanks.

I have a SQL 2000 SP4 server running on Windows 2003 SP2. About 6 months ago I started experiencing problems editing existing DTS packages. At that time it was just 1 package. (I tested that I could edit all others but this one package the first time I experienced the problem.)
But now it seems like anytime we experience import problems, I cannot edit the package so that I can verify that the import file is good. (So far the initial problem is always with the import file and once we figure out what that is and resolve it the package runs ok again.)
The problem is I'm planning on migrating to SQL 2005 and since I can't import DTS packages, I'm going to have to rewrite them as Integration Service Projects. If I can't edit the workflow tasks in DTS, it will be time consuming figuring out what the actual import file is. Also, most of these imports are coming from our AS400 which we are phasing out so I have to rewrite these to work with the new ERP package we are going to as we bring on each division.
I have not installed any post SQL 2000 SP4 hotfixes. So if anyone is aware of a hotfix that resolves this issue, please let me know.

I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.
I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.
Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:
- Prepare for Execute (Error)
Messages
Error 0xc0202009: {332B4EB1-AF51-4FFF-A3C9-3AEE594FCB11}: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft JET Database Engine" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Could not start session. Too many sessions already active.".

Error 0xc020801c: Data Flow Task: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "SourceConnectionOLEDB" failed with error code 0xC0202009.

Error 0xc004701a: Data Flow Task: component "Source 33 - ATable" (2065) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC020801C.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard).
There does not seem to be any method of specifying a number of sessions, so I don't see how to get round the problem.
Does anyone know how I can get the import to work?

Trying to set up a tranform task between a mysql db using and ADO.NET connection and sql server.
My query to pull from the mysql db is something like "select x,y,z from table where last_updated" > @User::LastUpdated. This command is set up as an expression for the Data Flow Task and is the value for the [DataReader Source].[SqlCommand]
I have two questions.
Why does the package attempt a query against the mysql database all the time?
And Why is the query attempting to pull the entire table instead of having any regards for my where clause?
I've even added where last_updated > greatest('2006-08-15', '" + @User::LastUpdated to attempt to get it a where clause even when the parameter isn't set yet.
What is the trick? This is not feasible when pulling from multi-million row tables.

I have a package that I was able to edit a week before. But now it is consuming all CPU memory (100%) and not letting me to edit the package (When I try to edit that it says Visual Studio Is busy even after an hour waiting).
Even though I have not changed anything, the package is behaving like this.
I would appreciate any reply on this?
Thanks in advance

I am trying to design an import/export utility but
keep coming up against the problem of row and column delimiters.
Our data has every possible combination of delimiters in the data itself
so of course this causes the import to fail.
Basically I need a way to export and import a given table to a text file.
Is there any way to solve this without continually worrying about delimiters.

newbie...
I have a development environment and a test environment...
I would like to create a batch file of sorts in which I can backup (I would export in oracle) the development environment, objects and data, and restore (import in oracle) forced restore over the test environment. The reason for this is that we are a fast paced development team and it is important for us to update the test environment on demand. This may happen two-three times a day and the dba (me) is not always available to perform this task.
thank you,
joe

Hi
I am using CSV (comma delimeted file) for exporting data from sql server table to CSV and then import to sql server from the CSV.
Now I have a problem, I could sucessfully export the data to CSV, but one of the field which has whole html for each product is giving me problem, It wouldnt save in one cell as for other data items in a record are. If I remove that field, the rest of records are exported okay, but with this one, it do export, but the data wouldnt go to one cell of the excel file and hence wouldnt work in importing to sql. I guess some tags in the string is creating problem plus also what should I do if the string already have comma as data, and we use comma as delimiting character.
Any kind of help greatly appreciated
EDIT:
Below is a sample of html thats already saved in one field but wouldnt come to one excel cell when exported to CSV...
<P><TABLE class=content cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD><STRONG>Product</STRONG></TD><TD>XXXX</TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD width="46%"><STRONG>XXXX</STRONG></TD><TD width="54%">XXXX </TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD><STRONG>XXXX</STRONG></TD><TD>XXXX</TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD><STRONG>XXXX</STRONG></TD><TD>up to 4MB/s</TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD><STRONG>XXXX</STRONG></TD><TD>XXXXX<TR vAlign=top><TD><STRONG>XXXX</STRONG></TD><TD>XXXX</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE class=content cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD><STRONG>XXXXX</STRONG></TD><TD>XXXXX</TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD><STRONG>XXXX</STRONG></TD><TD>XXXX</TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD><STRONG>XXXX</STRONG></TD><TD>XXXXX</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><A href="http://www.xxx.xxx" target=_blank><BR><BR>xXXX</A><BR><BR>Â </P>
