Effectively Getting Data And Present It By Location

Jun 16, 2008

Hello. I have been challanged to build an application that keeps track of inventory and dates of every item that needs inspection on regular intervals. The original application was a .NET windows application and i have been tasked to "port" and improve it to a .NET C# web application.

The original database was in access and i have imported everyting to SQL and all the data is in a single table. So far the table is relatively small so i decided to keep the current database design.

What i need to do is to select all the items that are comming up for inspection in the comming months and present them. Each item has a uniqe article number (artnr) with the item name, category and location of the item. The location is the part i would like each items to be presented by. Basicly i would like to retrive artnr, name, type and present x number of gridviews or a sorted presentation where each item is shown inside each gw/whatever by location.

I also considered moving all locations to it's own table and connect it with a PK/FK to the prinmary article table but i dont know if this will help me or not. Basicly i have no idea how i would present the items by location where each gridview/somethign else is it's own location.

I could really use som help with how i can retrive and present the data so it is showed in the above manner.

Retrieve All The Filename Present In One Particular Location In SQL

Dec 20, 2007

Hi,

I need to read all the text files present in one particular folder and have to place all the contents in the file into a table. I will be knowing the location of the file but i will not be knowing the name of the file. I am using a BULK INSERT command to place all the contents to a table.
Eg: BULK INSERT TEST FROM '\BSSC018C$IP Office LogsLog 20071206 000000 (5).txt'
To use BULK INSERT i have to specify the location of the file with the filename. So can anyone please help me to know how the names of the file can be fetched through SQL query. If i am able to get all the file names i can use a cursor and insert all the datas from all the text files.

Thank you.

Effectively Using Subqueries

Dec 23, 2005

Hi, I have searched through this forum and haven't found the answer to a problem I am having so I figured I will post it.

My SQL statement:

Select * FROM tblData WHERE LastName=
(SELECT tblData.LastName FROM tblData GROUP BY tblData.LastName HAVING (Count(tblData.LastName)>1))"

What I am trying to do: I am trying to make an SQL filter that I can apply to my form in order to only show records with duplicate last names. The sub query returns names that are already in the table. I then compare what is found to be duplicate with the original table in order to just show only the duplicate records. Everything works fine as long as there is only one name thats duplicated.

When there are multiple duplicate names then I run into an error.

When the statement is put into a string and executed in VBA I get this error:

"Run-time error '3021': No current record."

When the statement is put into a query and run against the DB I get this error:

"At most one record can be returned by this subquery"

So yeah, any help would be greatly appreciated. Am I going about this all wrong or am I just forgetting something? Thanks for any help.

How To Use SQL Server Express Effectively In Development Environment?

Jan 31, 2008

Hi all,

I must be missing something obvious. I'm not clear on how SQL Express can provide a decent development experience. Consider:

1. I have a class library that includes an express database file, set to always copy to output folder.
2. I have code that attaches to the database in the output folder at runtime.

As a result of the above, the first execution after restarting SQL Server will work. Subsequent builds will fail because SQL Server has a lock on the database file in the output folder. Or one of the two files will be copied (DB and log) and therefore they will be out of sync and detected as corrupt when the code attempts to connect. Either way, I have to restart SQL Server and rebuild before the DB connectivity will work again.

I figured I might need to detach from the DB in my shutdown code, but I cannot execute sp_detach_db from my code because it cannot be done through a connection to the database (database is in use). Moreover, I'm not sure I want to because the user might execute multiple instances of the application.

What am I missing here? Do I need to put steps in my build script to stop and start the local SQL Server instance?

Thanks for any help,
Kent

Can't Login Remotely Even Though Membership Data Is Present

Dec 18, 2006

(Sorry this was posted to VWD2005 Express by mistake)
I have created a simple project using ASP.NET 2.0 which enables a user to login. I created the login user using the Web Administration Tool in Visual Studio 2005.
I created everything locally and it worked.
Locally I have 2 databases. One containing normal data (which my site uses to populate a GridView control) and the other being ASPNETDB.MDF - which contains membership (login user) data. These 2 databases sit in the App_Data folder which is in the root of the project.
I have a remote database which is hosted in a shared environment.
This is just the one database and it appears to have all tables in the one database (membership tables and normal tables - such as the one I use to populate my GridView control).
I uploaded the website and using the Database Publishing Wizard I uploaded the database data to the shared host. I also changed the connection string to point to my remote database.
If I visit the website the GridView is populating correctly (pulling data from the remote database) but when I try to login it crashes. The error is "Access denied creating App_Data sub directory".
The membership login details for the user I created are in the remote database as I have compared the data in it to the data in my ASPNETDB.MDF local database.
If I launch from within Visual Studio 2005 then it allows me to login perfectly well.
Please does anybody know why it won't let me login when I access it via the website?
Many thanks for any help,
Graham

Invalid Attempt To Read When No Data Is Present

Nov 1, 2006

I have a stored procedure that inserts a record, and then either returns an error or, when successful, returns the entire row. This is a method I use on sites I have developed in other languages when inserting or updating data; I am new to c#.

With C# I have a datareader executing the sp, and the insert works fine, however I get the error "Invalid attempt to read when no data is present." when I try to read the data that should be coming back. I have researched and updated my code so that I no longer get the error, but I still cannot get the data back. I trap the sp in profiler, ran it in anaylzer, and it works fine - data is returned. But in the code, it does not see the data.

I have modified the return results so now I just have the ID coming back and that works fine. But I would rather just return the entire row. Can this be done, and if so, how?

Thanks.

Invalid Attempt To Read When No Data Is Present

Jul 25, 2007

I am using a standard dbreader type of loop in a query to retrieve data. I am running over what should be end of record set, every time.

I have altered my read procedures to use while dbreader.read() and if dbreader.read(), to attempt to avoid getting the error. Neither is stopping it.

While debugging it, as I get to the last item and actually get the error, if I check the dbreader status, it still indicates that it has rows.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get around this?

TIA, Tom

I suspect that the note for "Item" is my clue to the source of the problem, but I don't know what it means.  Please, help.

Transact SQL :: Present Data In Presentation Layer After Removing Temp Table?

May 21, 2015

Inside of stored procedure you have the code

create table #datatable (id int,
name varchar(100),
email varchar(10),
phone varchar(10),
cellphone varchar(10),
none varchar(10)
);
insert into #datatable
exec ('select *
from datatable
where id = 1')
select * from #datatable

I still want to retrieve the data and present it in the software's presentation layer but I still want to remove the temp table in order to reduce performance issue etc.

If I paste the code DROP

TABLE #datatable after
insert into #datatable
exec ('select *
from datatable
where id = 1')

Does it gonna work to present the data in the presentation layer after removing the temp table?

The goal is to retrieve the data from a stored procedure and present it in the software's presentation layer and I still need to remove the temptable after using it because I will use the SP many time in production phase.

Scheduler Settings For Mailing / Generation Of Pdf Reports Only Under Conditions Of Data Being Present

Feb 11, 2008

I have a requirement wherein PDF files are being rendered from an .rdl (report definition language), through the use of a SSRS scheduler automatically. The generated PDF file is further emailed to a mailing list, through the same scheduler. However, there are situations where the PDF is generated as an empty file (under certain specified circumstances) [through the automatic scheduler run]. In this situation, it is required not to email the PDF at all.
I would appreciate an input which lets me know how to prevent the generation of the PDF file, when there are no records in the dataset that binds to the .rdl.Alternatively, is there any indicator via which the scheduler can be alerted NOT to pick up files 0 KB in size?

Integration Services :: Fetch Data From Netezza Database Based On Values Present In Excel Using SSIS

Aug 7, 2015

I have an excel sheet containing one column (ID_NO) with 400K rows. I have a database from where I have to fetch some other columns from a Netezza database. Initially I tried hardcoding all the 400K rows in the query that I wrote using filter WHERE ID IN ('1212','2334'). But after pasting all the 400K rows the query is running indefinitely.

I have imported all the ID in a SQL table (MY_LIST table). I used a DFT, and selected ODBC source, and selected my netezza server. Then in the 'Data access mode' I selected the SQL command from the dropdown.I pasted the same query that I wrote in Netezza. Is there any way to pull only for those records that I have pulled in my SQL table (MY_LIST) ?

Extracting Binary Data From SQL DB To A Location On The Web Server

Mar 15, 2007

Hey all, WE have a document management system where by Adminstrators can upload documents, once the document is uploaded the binary data is stored on in a folder on the web server.  We used to stored the documents in the actaul db table, but we found that there were to many documents and it was using alot of space on db server. So my boss has decided we are now going to upload the binary data onto the web server.  Currently we are donig this with new documents which have been added or documents which are gettinguploaded when reloading, but there are many documents in the db table which have not been updated and are still embedded in the db table.  So i need to figure out how to go about copying the data storewd in the db table and storing it in web servers folder location. I've tried various things for a enitre day but im going round in circiles.                             MemoryStream mStream = new MemoryStream((Byte[])dtrResults["file"]);                            BinaryReader bReader = new BinaryReader(mStream);                            int intFileSize = (int)mStream.Length;                            Byte[] byteFile = (Byte[])dtrResults["file"]; i can get to this state but then how do i create a folder on the BinaryREader to then store the binary data of the file to the location.                             BinaryReader bReader2 = new BinaryReader(File.Open(strDocFolder + strSavedFileName, FileMode.Create));                            int count2 = bReader2.Read(byteFile, 0, intFileSize);                            bReader2.Close();i've also tried this but when the file gets created in the folder there is no content.  i do know that the file does contain content as ive tried this and downlaoding the file from that page acctually works                            string strContentTpe = WValue.WStr(dtrResults["contenttype"]);                            int intFileSize = VValue.VInt(dtrResults["filesize"]);                       /    Byte[] byteFile = ((Byte[])dtrResults["file"]);                            //Downloads the data correctly                           Response.ClearContent();                          Response.ClearHeaders();                           Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename="" + WValue.WStr(dtrResults["docfilename"]) + """);                           Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", WValue.WStr(intFileSize));                          Response.ContentType = strContentTpe;                           Response.BinaryWrite(byteFile); I hope ive made some snese andthat someone can hlep me. Have a nice dayZal

Writing Binary Data To Database Only To Refrence A File Location?

Sep 29, 2006

Hey everyone I've got this question that has me stuck for the last few days but its an important part of my website.....What I am trying to do is basicly have a user be able to upload a file, have that uploaded file plus some other info automaticly display on other parts of my site, and have a different user eventually be able to download that file....I have thought about allowing the file upload as a BLOB but still cannot find a proper way to execute this using VB, plus I have heard that this way of doing it is not reccommeneded cause databases were not designed to store large files like this, lots of articles recommened having the file upload to a Folder on your server then get the binary data for the file that can be placed in a database to refrence that particular file.....Well this also proves to be a lot harder then said here is what I got so far (written in C#) protected void UploadBtn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (FileUpLoad1.HasFile)
{

FileUpLoad1.SaveAs(@"C:Documents and SettingsAdamMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsWebsiteFiles" + FileUpLoad1.FileName);
Label1.Text = "File Uploaded: " + FileUpLoad1.FileName;
}
else
{
Label1.Text = "No File Uploaded.";
}
}
and here is the asp part of the code that goes with it<asp:FileUpLoad id="FileUpLoad1" runat="server" />

<asp:Button id="UploadBtn" Text="Upload File" OnClick="UploadBtn_Click" runat="server" Width="105px" />

<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text=""></asp:Label>
 Now from what I know is I need to get the binary of the file which I have read you can do with the Page.Request.Files statement but again not sure how I would impliment this.  Does anyone have any suggestions on which way I should take when dealing with this should I try and just use the BLOB method or use the binary refrence method? and if so how would I impliment this, heck even some good tutorials on the subject would be great... Thanks.....Adam
