Hi all Im used to work on mysql and in that Db you can call the password function to encrypt password, so that people browsing directly the db can't see others password.
What is the best way to do this in sqlserver ?
Is there any way to encrypt the sensitive data stored in a database?
It can be done with different programming languages, but can it be done directly on the database management system?
any good suggestions on hashing or encrypting the sensitive data stored in the database?
thank you
I have an Access .adp application and I need to store the passwords encrypted. I see that there are unsupported functions pwdencrypt() and pwdcompare() in SQL server 2K.
Are there any other functions or methods in SQL Server 2000 that could be called that would provide this capability?
Hi
I want to encrypt the password. Can u suggest some Encryption algorithms for Password protection?
Thanks
I am unable to encrypt password of sqlserver database in XML file by Package Configuration in SSIS.
Howdy!
Couple quick questions:
1) How much does setting encryption cost in terms of speed of querying and cpu usage?
2) If encryption is not set, is the password "encrypted" when its sent with the initialization routine?
Thanks in advance!
What is best way to encrypt password field in sql server 2000?.
Is there any system stored procedure to encrypt password?.
What kind of algorithm password encryption method uses?.
Is this possible to do during installation of express ? Is it possible at all ?
Want to use sql security mode (mixed). I need to build a trial version of software package and want real simple sql server passwords.
I would like to be able to store user network passwords in a database table and be able to encrypt and decrypt using stored procs. Could anyone give me a pointer on this.
Many thanks
I currently have a login page in asp.net 2.0 linked to a SQL 2005 database table that holds the usernames and passwords. At present, I am on an "honor system" where I do have access to the passwords of the other users but would like to change it so that I cannot know what the users' passwords are. Thank goodness that there is no personal information within the pages and the logins were created to keep a log of who logs in and what not. However, I would like to soon hold more personlized information, hence the need to encrypt each user's password even from myself.
I have read up on Symmetric Encryption for SQL 2005 but I would like to know if there is anything else available, any good proven methods that someone else has already tried.
Also, while testing out Symmetric Encryption, I noticed that I have to supply the encryption password for the decryption. However, if I know what the password for the encryption/decription is, does it not defeat the purpose of having the encryption at all, in terms of the "Admin" having access to sensitive information? Just curious if I understood the concept correctly or not.
Thanks in advance to all.
I have created two user defined functions for encryption and decryption using passphrase mechanism. When I call encryption function, each time I am getting the different values for the same input. While I searching a particular value, it takes long time to retrieve due to calling decryption function for each row.
best way to encrypt and decrypt using user defined functions.Below is the query which is taking long time.
SELECT ID FROM table WITH (NOLOCK)
WHERE dbo.DecodeFunction(column) = 'value'
When I try to use symetric or asymetric encryption, I am not able to put "OPEN SYMETRIC KEY" code in a function. So, I am using PassPhrase mechanism.
I have connected to Database using my credentials by checking remember password option. After few days I forgot my password. How can I recover the password as SQL remember it. Is there any way to recover my password instead of resetting it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a package protected by a password - I am already unhappy that to get it to use the configuration file to change connection strings for the production servers I have had to hardcode the password into the config file - very insecure!
However, the package now deploys correctly to the production server and will run from there OK, but NOT if scheduled as a SQL Server Agent Job. Thus is because however often I edit the command line to include the password after the DECRYPT switch (which it has prompted me for when I click on the command line tab), the Job Step will not retain it.
If I open it up after I have edited it and closed it, the password has disappeared.
I know that if I run dtexec plus the code in the Command Line tab (with the password), the package runs OK.
This is driving me insane!
I have read all the other posts and so I tried replacing the SSIS package step with a CmdExec step and pasting that code into there - then I get an OLEDB error..
The code I use is:
DTEXEC /SQL "ImportRateMonitoringTables" /SERVER servername /DECRYPT password /CONFIGFILE "D:Microsoft SQL ServerSSISDeploymentsRateMonitoringImportTasksDeploymentImportRateMonitoringTables_Production.dtsConfig" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E
and I get
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF
although the same code executes perfectly from a command prompt.
Please does anyone have any experience with a similar problem and if so, how did you get round it?
Thank you
I am receiving the following error message when attempting to create a new SQL Authenticated login id.
Password validation failed. The password does not meet the requirements of the password filter DLL. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15119)
I have four servers all running SQL Server 2005 SP2 on Windows 2003 Ent. SP1. Of the four servers, only one received the above error message using the same TSQL below.
CREATE LOGIN TEST_LOGIN WITH PASSWORD = 'pvif9dal' MUST_CHANGE, CHECK_EXPIRATION = ON
All four servers are in the same domain, which if I understand correctly, the password policies are therefore inherited at the OS level by the domain. The password being used is within the password policies of the domain.
Any ideas as to a root cause?
I tried to install an ALLDATA database which run with SQL Server 2005 express edition. The data base fails to install becase of the following code that come up which is related to AS password requirement. The error that come up is:

I am trying to install this database in a network server operating under Windows Server 2003 R2 with SP2. If anyone knows how to solve this problem, please let me.

On the login prompt for Report Server, there is a checkbox option to "Remember my Password." I check this, login successfully... but when returning to the Report Server, I am again prompted for the password, although the user name is saved. No matter how many times I do this, the password will not save in IE7. I have tried this on 3 different computers with IE7. In IE 6, I do not even get the checkbox as an option, just the user name/password prompt. In Firefox, the password saves fine. Any ideas what would be causing this?
Thanks,
Brian
I put this together to export the user name /password to a csv file to test my SP to output the user name/password.
DECLARE @user_name varchar(50)
DECLARE @psswrd varchar(10)
SELECT @user_name ,@psswrd
FROM ngweb_bulk_enrollments
EXEC master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'bcp NGDevl.dbo.ngweb_bulk_enrollments out C: est.csv -Sserver1 -T -t, -r
-c'
This works but I don't get the headers in the file. How can I include the headers?
I have an internal Project Management and Scheduling app that I wrote internally for my company. It was written to use MySQL running on a Debian server, but I am going to move it to SQL Server 2000 and integrate it with our Accounting software. The part I am having trouble with is the user login portion. I previously used this:
PHP Code:
$sql = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE username = "$username" AND user_password = password("$password")";
Apparently the password() function is not available when accessing SQL Server via ODBC. Is there an equivalent function I could use isntead so the passwords arent plaintext in the database? I only have 15 people using the system so a blank pwd reset wouldn't be too much trouble.
I was wondering if anyone out there knows if it is possible to encrypt a particular field in a table, or encrypt a whole table. The info would remain on my database and not be sent out anywhere, but I just want an extra level of security against anyone who might try to break into the database.

Hello,
Is there a way to encrypt the data ( I mean actual data stored
in a table)in a SQLServer.
I know how to encrypt procedures, views, Net-libraries ......
Please help!!!!
Thanks.
How to get the encryption of certain characters, such as '12345' or 'hello'. Is any function to take regular characters and return the encryption form of those characters?
Please help.
My client requested that the password field of a login table be encrypted using H5 Encryption. I've been searching throughout the net and MSDN for the function or procedure and can't find it. Does anybody know how?

Now they want that the users logon to this small app using the same username & password that they used in SAP
I can read the users' table, I can get the username

Probably with a Function
Anybody know how can I encrypt the typed password so I can compare with the saved password
I don't want to view or modify them, just compare with the password typed by the user

Hello,
I am needing to migrate an Access database to Sql Server
Express. This database will be distributed as part of a
VB 6 application. This database will have some of the
columns encrypted. My understanding is that SQL Server
Express supports encryption. We will need to be able to
run queries on encrypted data like this, with
LastName being an encrypted column in the database.
Select LastName from Account where LastName = 'Smith'
Select LastName from Account where LastName Like 'Sm%'
Update Account Set where LastName = sLastName
Can this be done using SQL Server 2005 Express and VB 6?
Thanks!

I am new to SQL server and working on Encryption.I just want to know whether it is better to encrpt a data in database or in the code itself.I want to encrypt a number and not a text.which one would u suggest RC4 algorithm or pwdencrypt..any one plz reply soon..
Hi. Im new to SQLserver. I need to encrypt a column of datatype decimal. Which is better RC4 Algorithm or PWDencrypt() and PWDcompare().

i was wondering if the whole table can be encrypted using MS SQL Server 2005. This at present can be done using third party softwares.
Performance won't be an issue.

I am using server 2005 running on a windows server 2003 platform. I am trying to do field encryption using symmetric key implemented by the AES algorithm. I created an AES key and apparently it encrypts the data with no problem, however when I try to retrieve the data after decryption the field is always null. I tried using the same process while using the DES or RC2 algorithm and I could both encrypt and decrypt information, however it does not decrypt for any of the AES algorithm i.e. AES_128, AES_192 and AES_256. Attached is a simple query I used to test it.
create symmetric key CCardKeys
with algorithm = aes_192
encryption by password = 'P@s$w0rD'
open symmetric key CCardKeys
decryption by password = 'P@s$w0rD'
declare @Id varchar(50)
set @Id = encryptbykey(key_guid('CCardKeys'),'Test')
select convert(varchar(50),decryptbykey(@Id))
close symmetric key CCardKeys
Is there something I'm missing with AES.
Thanks for taking the time to help me.
Here is my goal please let me know if it is possible.
I have installed sql express on clients machines. I don't want them to be able to view the sp's or the functions. I would like to go as far as not allowing them to see the tables. I tried with encrption but this is still breakable by the user using the DAC.
Thanks
