Enterprise Manager - Slow Updates When Editing Tables

Jul 20, 2005

Hi,

I have a table with about 70k rows. When I use open table --> return
all rows and then edit a field Enterprise Manager then says it has to
return the entire result set for the update to take place.

This can take a long time and makes editing data a slow process. Is
there any way to get Enterprise Manager just to update the one row??

Thanks Tom

Editing Logins For SQL Users - Cant Do It In Enterprise Manager

Feb 14, 2006

Hi all

I'm using sql enterprise manager to access a database which has two users associated to it called 'dbo' and 'user'. I have a login that uses sql authentication also called 'user2' which has been tested and working fine.
From within enterprise manager, when i look at the list of users for my database, 'dbo' is listed as using the 'user2' login to gain access, but the entry for 'user' has no login name listed and is blank, which should be 'user2'. How can I rectify this?
Thanks

Editing Varchar Field In Enterprise Manager

Dec 2, 2004

I am using SQL 2000. In a table (tblTestTable) I have a field VARHCAR(4000).
the field stores text taken from a text area in a web page so contains new line characters also length is around 2000 characters.

The problem is that I am unable to edit the text in this field through Enterprise Manager. The text remains as if it is readonly. All I can do is select entire text and cut or delete.
Is there reason for this occurance? How can it beovercome?

Disabling Stored Procedure Editing Through Enterprise Manager

Jan 4, 2008

using SQL2000

we have a problem in work where developers modify stored procedures on the fly through enterprise manager. we are trying to prevent this and push them towards using SourceSafe and VS.Net integration when wanting to edit stored procedures - that way we track all changes.

i remember seeing in a company that i worked for a few years ago where they where able to lock stored procedures so that the developer could only view the stored procedure through enterprise manager. similar to when you view a system stored procedure it will change the background colour to grey

how do you go about this? each user is logging into enterprise manager using their windows login.

Cheers,
Craig

SLOW Connection To SQL Server 2000 From Enterprise Manager

Sep 9, 2004

I have had a problem with Enterprise Manager connecting to SQL Server. At first this problem was experienced with one particular network user... whichever PC he logged onto, Enterprise Manager took ages to connect to SQL Server and every operation was painfully slow. Creating a new Windows NT logon fixed the problem.

I now have this same problem but only on my PC. It doesn't matter which Windows NT logon I use, using Enterprise Manager is painfully slow. I've tried creating a new Windows NT profile, checking the hard drive for errors, defragmenting the disk, reinstalling Enterprise Manager etc but nothing works.

What is strange is that connections from VB applications on my PC are fast. It is only Enterprise Manager that is slow.

I am using the latest service pack for SQL Server.

I thought it could be a problem with the Enterprise Manager registry values but don't want to start messing with them!

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any advice would be great as I can't find any help from microsoft other than installing the latest service pack for SQL Server.

Thanks

Using Enterprise Manager To Export Tables/data

May 19, 2006

Hi,

I'm trying to use enterprise manager (v 8.0) to generate a sql script. I know I can select the tables I want to script and then select "Generate SQL Script".

My problem is that I can't seem to figure out a way to get the INSERT statements for all the data in the tables into that same script. I can get the table CREATES, ALTERS, etc.

Is there a way to include the INSERTs for data as well???

Problems Running Enterprise Manager And Service Manager

Jul 20, 2005

On one of our machines, all of the SQL Server 2000components except for the main Server component (SQL Servercore) itself were installed (Management tools, etc) a while agoand everything was running fine. Now I go and add/install theServer component and then Service Pack 3a.It seems that Service Manager won't start up (I get an hourglass cursor)and now I find that Enterprise Manager won't run as well. No errormessages appeared and I don't think I saw anything unusual inthe log file. However, I can use Enterprise Manager on a differentmachine and connect to the database (so the databaseitself seems to be running).Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how tofix it? I like to see if I can repair this without havingto do a reinstall.Thanks.PF

Slow Inserts/updates As The Database Size Grows

Oct 23, 2007

Hi all,

This managed application was written to run on a Symbol 3090 Win CE 5.0 scanning device. We are using the symbol provided classes to access the scanning interface, and SQL Compact database on the device to collect the scanned data, and then using merge replication to synchronize scanned data when the device is docked. The problem we have experienced seems to be releated to the performance when inserting and updating records in the database.

We have tested some randomly generated 1000 records and inserting/updatating into a database. At first the time to commit a record increases when the database is flushing into the memory (The flush interval in the connection string property is 10 seconds by default). and then as the database size grows increasing the time to commit every single record which is causing the application to perform slowly as they scan items into the database. However, the device program memory remains consistant as they are scan items. From our tests, I found the time to execute either a update/insert command on 2MB sqlMobile database (upto 10000 records, depending on the size of the columns) is taking nearly 2 to 2 and half seconds to complete. Below is the only code I am executing,

If Not sqlObj.UpdateItem(1061022, itemNo, 1) Then

sqlObj.InsertResultSet(1061022, itemNo, itemObj.Style, itemObj.Color, itemObj.Size, itemObj.Description, 0, 1)

End If

For the notes, I am using prepared updated command and resultset.insert methods to perform update and insert commands into the database.

Any help on this issue is highly appreciated.

Thanks
Ravi.

Why Is Enterprise Mgr So Slow When...

Jul 21, 2006

... right clicking on a registered server?

I work from home, over a DSL link. Reasonably, if not hugely, fast. Everything Ent Mgr or Query Analyzer does is quite responsive, except, when I right click on a registered server. Then, there is an long wait, with no visual feedback (no hourglass) and frequently the result is nothing happens. Sometimes it takes two or even three right clicks, all spaced 15 to 20 seconds or more apart, before I get the menu. What in the heck is Enterprise Manager doing or waiting on, and why, so often, does it do nothing at all??? I realize this is a minor detail in the schema of things (sorry, couldn't resist), but it's annoying in part because it seems like it should require no outside communications and be lightning fast to just throw up a menu. I've long wondered what's happening behind the scenes on that right click......

Editing Tables & Writing Custom Stored Procedures

Feb 26, 2007

Hi all,

I’m currently writing a web application on student exam timetables, I’m using SQL Server 2005 as the back-end for the database.

At present, the case states that if a student is in one examination, he/she can’t attend, or be allocated another examination while the first examination is in place, which would result in a clash

The way I’m going to target this is by writing a stored procedure in SQL Server 2005 to return an error code, which I’ll translate using ASP,NET, however at present I’m having difficulty writing the SQL code. This is because…

I’m using SQL Server 2005 Management Studio; I created the tables using MS Access and upsized them using the wizard. I can now access my database, but having difficulty editing my tables and with code…

Any ideas??

Thank-you

SQL 7 Enterprise Manager

Jul 28, 2000

I am considering upsizing my Access 2000 DB to a SQL 7 server. I was told that having SQL 7 Enterprise Manager is highly prefferd but not essential as I can maintain the upsized DB with Access 2000. The only way that I have been able to find JUST enterprise manager seems to be with purchasing the whole SQL 7 program for $1300! Microsoft cannot be that cruel, that you have to buy the whole program just for Enterprise Manager!

My questions are:

Can I download just MS SQL 7 Enterprise Manager anywhere for a reasonable fee or free?

and

if not, can I continue to use Access 2000 to maintain the SQL 7 upsized DB?
