Hello,I would like to know if the equivalent Oracle rownum exist inSQLServer. Here is a sample SQL code to explain what I want to do :selectjobs.name,jobs.job_id,jobs.description,hist.message,hist.step_name,hist.step_id,hist.run_status,hist.run_date,hist.run_time,hist.run_durationfrommsdb.dbo.sysjobs jobs,msdb.dbo.sysjobhistory histwherejobs.job_id=hist.job_idand hist.job_id='E71CCB97-81C3-46E2-83FA-BFFCB66B47F8'order byrun_date, run_timeI just want the first or second row returned by this query. In Oracle Ican simply add rownum=1 or rownum=2 in the where clause to obtain thedesired answer. I don't know how to do in SQLServer.Thank in advance,Pierig.
I want to serialize a dataset and store it in database.How can i do that.In sqlserver 2005 which data type i need to use for storing objects. Please advice
I have written an SSIS package with a Transfer SQLServer Objects task which I want to use to copy database objects from a SQL Server 2000 database to SQL Server 2005.
When I run this task, I find the following error:
[Transfer SQL Server Objects Task] Error: Execution failed with the following error: "Version80 database compatibility level is not supported
Is there a way around this aside from changing the compatibility level of my SQL Server 2005 database?
I have a sql server project where I have added 1 stored procedure (named StoredProcedure1) and 1 class (named MyClass). MyClass has two functions Func1() and Func2(). The stored procedure simply instantiates MyClass and calls Func1().
Func1() creates a SqlConnection object using "context connection=true" - opens the connection and then calls Func2(). Func2() also creates a SqlConnection object using "context connection=true" - and attempts to open the connection. However when attempting to the Open() call inside Func2(), the code just exits. What gives? The code is pasted below, thanks!
*******THE STORED PROCEDURE************** using System; using System.Data; using System.Data.SqlClient; using System.Data.SqlTypes; using Microsoft.SqlServer.Server; using SqlServerProject1;
public partial class StoredProcedures { [Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlProcedure] public static void StoredProcedure1() { // Put your code here MyClass obj = new MyClass(); obj.Func1(); obj = null; } };
*******THE CLASS "MYCLASS"************** using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; using System.Data; using System.Data.SqlClient; using System.Data.SqlTypes; using Microsoft.SqlServer.Server;
public class MyClass { public MyClass() {
}
public void Func1() { using ( SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection("context connection=true") ) { conn.Open();
Func2(); conn.Close(); } }
public void Func2() { using ( SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection("context connection=true") ) { if ( conn.State != ConnectionState.Open ) conn.Open();
if ( conn.State == ConnectionState.Open ) conn.Close(); } } }
I'm sure this has been asked plenty of times before, so I'm after a link to a good answer.
I have tens of thousands of milk crates, holding dozens of different types of milk in hundreds of locations. I am used to working with objects but not databases. For this situation however I want the security of SQLServer transactions to track, for example, when a robot moves a crate from one location to another.
I am thinking of using SQLServer as a store. On startup I want to get my ecosystem of objects out of the store. While I am running, I'll just use objects. When I change an object property I want it to securely persist. I don't want to snapshot the whole menagerie of object states, just update the values that changed. Which will sometimes include the addition or deletion of objects. How do I do this? Is there an example somewhere that does this (or approximately this)?
I use VB and have Visual Studio 2005. (Which, by the way, is stunning. I thought all that "you will use less time and code more and better" talk was just hype. But its for real. Amazing product.)
I'm building an application that tracks courses and equivalent courses. For example, say I have course A which a user should get credit for if they have taken equivalent courses. So if a user has taken (course B or course C) AND (course D or course E) he should get credit for Course A. What's the best way to setup a SQL table to create these type of equivalent relationships?
please help newbieI need to create a lot of objects the same type (let's say: schemas)I wish to use paramerized block in loop to do so.- how to put names of my objects to such control-flow?belss you for help
passing serialised objects to a stored procedure for the purpose of data inserts. I see this as being a way to handle multiple row inserts efficiently.
However, in my limited use of XML data I am not so sure how to link the data when I have a dependency on another "object" within the serialised XML.
Below is a code snippet showing what I have so far.
The first insert statement works fine - but how to retrieve the identifier created by the DB - I want to use an SQL statement that finds the record in the table based on the XML representation (of the PluginInfo), allowing me to insert the ConfigurationInfo with the correct reference to the PluginInfo
DECLARE @Config NVARCHAR(MAX) DECLARE @Handle AS INT DECLARE @TransactionCount AS INT SELECT @Config = ' <ConfigurationDirectory > <ConfigurationInfo groupKey="Notifications" sectionKey="App.Customization.PluginInfo"
I have a SQL2000 database that I need to copy tables from to my SQL2005 database. The table in the 2000 database are owned by a login named tsreader. This login is also in the dbo database role. So, when I access tables I have to prefix tha table name with tsreader. Currently in a SQL2000 database I have DTS packages that pull data over from this database everynight and they work fine. However when I try to do this from SSIS, I get the error "Object does not exist". My assumption is that it is trying to access the database tables as a "select * from tablea" as opposed to "select * from tsreader.tablea".
Any thoughts on how to make this work? I know I have the login correct because it is the same one I use for the SQL 2000 packages. Also, in SSIS it allows me to chose the tables I want yet I still get "Table does not exist at source" when I try and execute it.
Hi, Our database has very large number of objects. We have a naming convension by modules, subprojects etc. But for example when we need to open a specific table it still takes time to find it. If we could create custom folders under table folder or stored procedure folder it will be easier to find an object. We could create sub folders by module, subproject and classify our objects with these folders. Will the next version SQL Server 2008 support this kind of functionality?
We used to used Sql Server 2000 DTS to perform daily backups to remote servers very successfully but just cannot do the same with SSIS.
I set my Transfer Sql Transfer Objects Task to use the following settings:
CopyData = true
ObjectsTocopy = All Tables
As soon as it hits a table that has a foreign key, I get the following error:
"Truncate data failed for Table nnn"
I've tried setting DropObjectsFirst = True but this fails too with foreign key violations.
First of all, am I doing something obviously wrong? Is SSIS not smart enough to drop tables in the right order so that we don't get foreign key violations?
Am I totally barking up the wrong tree with this and can anyone suggest a better way of doing remote backups?
We are using the Transfer SQL Server Objects Task to transfer a large table. The trans log is filling up for this table. Is there a method to split the Data Transfer Task into smaller batches? (Smaller tables are transferring without issue.)
Hello, I am running a package that used to transfers data from one SQL2005 to another SQL2005. There are multiple schemas associated with the database. Until recently, this pacakage would work. Now I am getting the following error for all the tables not owned by dbo:
Any help on this would be appreciated.
Thanks, sck10

Does anyone know what could be causing the error on Transfer SQL Server Objects Task? I tried to develope a SSIS project in the Business Intelligence studio to transfer table between databases on the same server. However, I have been getting the following error:
[Transfer SQL Server Objects Task] Error: Table "XXXXXX" does not exist at the source.
Is there a setting that I need to change to make this work? Thank you for your help.

I am new to using sqlserver and have been given the task to get the columnname, data type and the description from a given table and put this intoanother table. Can this be done?Thanks in advance.Jeff Magouirk
I have a products table in a Sql Server 2005 database. One of the fields contains the products attributes in xml. The most commonly used attribute is color. An element of color is inventory. This is the only way I could think of to maintain inventory numbers of each color of each product using someone else's (opensource) code. An example of an attribute field would be <?xml version="1.0"?> <ArrayOfAttribute xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <Attribute> <Name>Color</Name> <Description>Shown in Black</Description> <Selections> <AttributeSelection> <FormattedValue>483 - Black</FormattedValue> <Value>483 - Black</Value> <Inventory>25</Inventory> </AttributeSelection> <AttributeSelection> <FormattedValue>484 - Lt. Tan</FormattedValue> <Value>484 - Lt. Tan</Value> <Inventory>15</Inventory> </AttributeSelection> <AttributeSelection> <FormattedValue>485 - Pink</FormattedValue> <Value>485 - Pink</Value> <Inventory>17</Inventory> </AttributeSelection> </Selections> <SelectionType>SingleSelection</SelectionType> </Attribute> </ArrayOfAttribute> How can I read this into the gridview control so that it makes sense to the user?Diane
Hi, I have a table in my database where I want the Insert/Modify permissions to only administrator or (User X). Remaining users can just read the data. How do I set this in sqlserver 2005 database? I can right click Table->properties->Permissions and add specific permissions to admin. But how would i deny permisssions to all others? I cannot add each login to deny permissions. Thanks,
Hi Foilks , I know it s easy question. I know databases but not SQL dbase. Please explain if you can. what is "DEPENDENCIES" folder in sqlserver table mean please?
I am importing all the files from a particular folder to a table on my database KB. It is working perfectly if i use it on the same system where the DB exists and not working from the network.

Hi I have an sqlserver setup locally to chew thru pricefiles from our suppliers. The pricefiles comes in various formats mostly txt-files and are inserted via bulk-inserts and separeted by GO-statements, in the end I end up with a table containing unique partnumbers, the average price for the part, and number in stock. What i would like is to have a transact- statement in the end of all thoose sql-statements that copies the final table to a remote sqlserver that contains the DB used on my website. How do i connect to a remote server thru a sql-statement? is it possible? If i just get the connection part explained, i can figure out the rest by myself. Thanks /Jonas
