When I try to send an email using sqlserver agent (SQL Server 2000-> Management->SQL Server Agent-> Operators), I am getting the following error:

I know I have administrator privilege on this machine.

So, why is it reporting this error?

Unable To Start SqlServerAgent Service In A Sql 2005 Cluster

Jul 4, 2007

hi all

i'm using a domain accout to setup a sql 2005 cluster in a win2003 cluster.when the installation ended, the SqlServerAgent service can't be started.the event in event viewer

is "SQLServerAgent could not be started (reason: Unable to connect to server "(local)"; LServerAgent
cannot start). " (event id 103 ,source sqlserveragent).I try to use local system and network service account to start it,but it's all the same.

And i found i can connect to the sql cluster vitrual ip 10.73.2.224,but can't connect to the node A.So i enable all the network protocols for the instance MSSQLSERVER,and also enable every ip in the TCP/IP protocol, then restart the sqlserver service, but it still doesn't work.

Any advise?Thanks a lot.

Unable To Get Notification When Deadlock Occurs

Jun 26, 2006

Hi,

I am facing this problem with SQL Server 2000 as well as with SQL Server 2005. I want to get notified when a deadlock occurs. This is what I have done.

I have setup an SQL Server Agent alert for the error number 1205. The alert is enabled and in response to the alert I am invoking a job and also tried email and net send etc.

Now I simulated deadlock situation by using two connections and received the 1205 error. However when I go back to the alert and see it does not invoke the job nor send message nor email. I find the number of occurrances of the alert as 0 which means that the alert never occurred. Why am I not able to trap the 1205 error message and get a notification?

I understand that I can enable trace flag 1204 and trace flag 3605 to get the deadlock event and the complete description logged to the sql server error log. But my question is why am I not able to use the 1205 event in the sql server agent alert. Even if I enable 1204 and 3605 I am only able to get the information of the deadlock in the error log but the alert is not getting triggered.

I am able to get all other alerts except the alert for 1205 and in general for any severity 13 alerts they are not getting triggered.

Any help is appreciated. I got this problem with sql server 2000 sp4 and sql server 2005 sp1.

Regards,

Ravi

Unable To Identify Child Package Events Post SP2 Install

Jun 8, 2007

Pre-SP2, log events that bubbled up from child packages used to be prepended with "User:" (as documented in KB906563). It appears that this behaviour has changed in SP2, and only the Diagnostic event gets prepended with "User:". When I debug a custom log provider, the event names are now clearly not prepended on any other event type.

Is this a bug, or a breaking feature? Can anyone suggest a way to identify events that bubble up from child packages under SP2, now that this has changed?

SQL Server 2005 Rendered Unable To Start Post SP2 Install. Help!

Jun 12, 2007

Hi can someone help me please? I browsed through the SP2 install feedback below, but it doesn't quite seem to fit what happened to my install. My .MDF and .LDF files for the system databases are in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSQL.1MSQLData (I presume this is the correct location.)

I am the local administrator on this box.

I uploaded the .CAB file with all the logs onto www.sendspace.com if it gives you something to go on.

The only other thing of note is that it said there were two machines on the network and that I needed to change my machine name in the control panel when I installed. This doesn't seem right, as far as I understand the computer name is unique.

The SQL Server runs under the local system account, if that is of any use.

I attempted uninstalling and reinstalling the SQL native client MSI package in the hope it would be a simple fix similar to that chap further down the page, but that didn't help at all either.

.CAB file of installation logfiles is here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/7ihoet

kind regards
Jason

Unable To Drop Login Due To Existing Event Notification

Aug 20, 2007

Hi

I am unable to drop the above login. The error is Error:15141 The server principal owns an event notification and cannot be dropped.

I have looked in the table sys.server_event_notifications and there are rows returned that have a server_principal_id of the user I am trying to drop. No events have been created on this server, so I am assuming these notifications are either created by default or are somehow related to Database Mail?

All the event notifications belong to service name "SQL/Notifications/ProcessWMIEventProviderNotification/v1.0" and begin with SQLWEP (i.e. SQLWEP_RECHECK_SUBSCRIPTIONS, SQLWEP_B415ADB8_A604_4057_976F_600002FA5AF6). How can I find out what these are for and how they were created?

What purpose do these event notifications have? Is there some syntax to change the owner of these event notifications so I can successfully drop the login? If the only way is to directly update the system view, is this safe and what repercussions could this have?

Thanks
Martin

SQLServerAgent Error: MAPI Error: Table Too Big...Please Help

Aug 10, 2001

I'm trying to send a Test Email to Operators defined in a SQL 7.0 server (currently on SP2). And get the following error message:
"Error 22022: SQLServerAgent Error: MAPI error: Table too big."

We've checked the email profiles (also performed test on SQL MAIL) and can stop/start SQL Mail successfully. Verified that the accounts are correctly identified with appropriate permissions. MSDB is 150MB with no table that looks abnormal in size.

Has anyone come across this situation? Please let me know. THANKS!!!

Refering To Distinct Values Post(My Other Post)

Oct 22, 2007

---------------------------------------------------------------
My Original Post
I have to query n table(NLRImports) using the Distinct keyword, to retrieve a set of ID numbers. ( "Select DISTINCT id_nbr from NLRImport" ).

Now i want to use those values i retrieved, to process the records in the table(NLRImports) 1 by 1. How do i use those ID no's i retrieved as Variables or parameters for my next query?? If this makes sense?
----------------------------------------------------------------

First, thanks for the response.... now here is what im trying to do.
I created a simple application in delphi to import information to a table in MSSql2005. This is some of the resulting columns...

date | id_nbr | account_nbr | sub_account_nbr | ... etc
-------------------------------------------------------------

Now there will be several entries with the same id no but on different dates, so i take it dates would rather be my pkey.

Then i need to take one person's entries(i work on id_nbr) and go thru all the entries taking the earliest date and comparing all the other entries for that person to the first date and select all the dates more than 19 days after the first date and less than 91 days from first date and place it in a new table.
I used cursor s and while loops to kind of get it going but i know that cursors are not really recommended use but the performance implications dont bother with this particular job.

What other ways should i be using to accomplish this?

thanks, i hope this is clear...

Sep 19, 2001

Hi,

The following error has started appearing consistently this week (50-100) times a day. No code has been changed in the database and I ran a trace to identify the procs executed in the time before this error. There is not any errors with the procs and the procs are running correctly. Does anyone know what is causing this and the remedy for this?

Thank You

Query Notification Error

May 6, 2007

Hi All

In Work , we created a Cache component that serves a large business application, we are subscribing to almost 200 queries , the component worked quite well in the first few months of the development, but lately i am getting notification events that contain "Error" in the SqlNotificationEventArgs of the event , the "Source" value is "Client".

I have no idea what might cause this error event , we are close to "go live" with our product and we cannot depend on the Query Notification mechanism until this problem is solved.

Can it be a DataBase problem? Application Problem?

Thanks in advance

Msmdsrv.ini (Split Post): Error Registering Plugin

Jan 23, 2008

hello,everyone,I also met a problem.
I stoped the SQL Server Analysis Services first, and registered the GAC successfully,
then modified the msmdsrv.ini manually. In fact,I found the format of my msmdsrv.ini is diffirent from the one mentioned in the tutorial,it just like below:

<DataMining>
...
<Algorithms>
.
.
.
<MyCompany_Managed_Plugin_Algorithm>
<Enabled>1</Enabled>
</MyCompany_Managed_Plugin_Algorithm>
.
</Algorithms>
<Services>
...
<MyCompany_Managed_Plugin_Algorithm>
<ProgID>44503EAB-570E-4b25-A9F4-043949A7D78E</ProgID>
</MyCompany_Managed_Plugin_Algorithm>
...
</Services>

when i restarted the the AS,
some error information displayed in event viewer,
" can't load MyCompany_Mamaged_Plugin_Algorithm data mining Algorithm provider(ProgID,
can't create Algorithm Provider program for MyCompany_Managed_Plugin_Algorithm,
ProgID does not exist in the server configuration file"

I am confused by it and have not any idea to solve it.
some one can give tips?
thanks.

Error Notification From User Defined Function

Jul 23, 2005

Is there any reason why I shouldn't cause an arithmetic error(say bydividing by zero) in a User Defined Function for a situation where in astored procedure you would use RAISERROR or in code you would throw anexception? In most situations, I can check the return value of the UDF to see thatit is valid. However, I want to sum the output of UDF and thereforecannot check the return value. Errors should be so rare that I wouldrather not use a cursor to do the sum--and take the peformance hit.Following is the code:SELECT SUM([dbo].[udf_MyFunction]([Column1],[Column2]))FROM tblMyTableThanks ~ Matt

Query Notification / Server Log Error Messages

Oct 11, 2007

Two days ago I discovered that the drive on our test SqlServer2005 was full. The current Error_log had 54+ Gb (yes Gb) of records. Not only did I delete the file I restarted SS and the server.

That afternoon, I discovered that the current log had 33,678 records! I believe 33,616 of the records came from a single run of my app and set of program events. Obviously I'm doing something wrong in my Query Notification implementation and testing. And yet, when I try to to deliberately trigger the phenomenon, I can not.

Here is the head of the exported log file; the two msgs (query dialog closed and cannot drop queue) alternate thousands and thousands of times form a single test run. What is going on?! Pls help!

My database is logging frequent errors and I am unable to determine the cause. These errors appear to be related to the Service Broker. Below is the database log file after a database restart and attempted access to the database through a web application. The first error (bottom of the logfile) is error 28054. I have searched on this error code and have found nothing helpful. Any assistance or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Working Since Morning, Simple Error But Unable To Resolve, ERROR : 26 , Please Help

Dec 15, 2006

dear friends,
i started using Asp.net for developing webparts, web parts automatically connect to a database to be created and saved in the database.
i had already Sql Server 2005 Express Edition installed so my webpart page ran and automatically created the database "AspNetDb" in the "App_Data" folder.
but when i uninstalled Sql Server 2005 Express Edition and then installed the Sql Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, it gave me the following Error 26 as below :

--------------------------------------------------------- Beginning of Error Message --------------------------------------------------
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. SQLExpress database file auto-creation error:
The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the applications App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:

If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist.
If the applications App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the applications App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the applications App_Data directory. Revoking read access on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to create a duplicate of an already existing database. Write access is required because the web server accounts credentials are used when creating the new database.
Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine.
The process identity for the web server account must have a local user profile. See the readme document for details on how to create a local user profile for both machine and domain accounts.
--------------------------------------------------------- End of Error Message --------------------------------------------------
then when i checked the Machine.config file, i found this....
  <connectionStrings> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="data source=.SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings>
then i thought it's becoz, of the datasource thing that the Machine.Config file supports by default the default free edition of Sql Server 2005 which is the Sql Server 2005 Express Edition.
but friend in my company we use Sql Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, so can anybody pls guide me and get me out of this soup on helping me to use Sql Server 2005 Enterprise Edition by modifying either 1) Machine.Config File and/or 2) Web.Config file and/or 3) any other way, but please help i want to do this, please......
regards and thanks
Gurjit Singh

SQLSERVERAGENT

Sep 1, 2006

Dear all,

I can't start the SQLSERVERAGENT for my sql 2k under win 2003 sp1.

SQLServerAgent could not be started (reason: SQLServerAgent cannot start because the instance of the server (MSSQLSERV) is not the expected instance (MSSQLSERVER)).

I can't find any useful information regarding this error. Any one can help?

Thanks,

bchu

SQLServerAgent Not Starting

Mar 15, 2001

When my system re-boots SQLServerAgent will no longer start. The following message is sent to the NT Event Log:

(Event ID 103) "SQLServerAgent could not be started (reason: Unable to connect to server; SQLServerAgent cannot start)."

Following this message are two messages from MSSQLServer that read:

(Event ID 19020) "RPC Net-Library listening on: ncalrpc:USBGRSYSTST1[WMSG0000009A.00000001]."

So is this a timing issues? Is MSSQLServer taking too long to completely start before SQLServerAgent is started? If so, is there a way (without hacking through the registry) to make the SQLServerAgent service dependant on the MSSQLServer service?

This startup issue did not exist until an application was installed on the machine that also has several services that auto-start. I noticed that many of these new services are starting at the same time the MSSQLServer service is starting.

Any asssistance would be most appreciated.

Sqlserveragent Won't Start

Jun 19, 2000

We're running sql 7.0 sp1 and both the sqlserver service and sqlserveragent service are running under local system account.
For some reason, the sqlserveragent service started failed with
"error 2140" - windows nt internal error
From event viewer, it saids it has some connection problem.

The sqlserver service has no problem.
All knowledge base material related to 6.5 resolution.
Would rebuilding the registry entry help ? I tested and rebuilding the registry did not regrant any registry permission, should it ?

Where should I look into if above doesn't work ?

Thx.

SQLSERVERAGENT NT Service

May 22, 2007

This may be more of an IT question, but I hope someone here will have the answer.

I am trying to change the "Log on as" for SQLSERVERAGENT NT Service through Windows Registry. I am able to find HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesSQLSERVERAGENTObjectName and change it but I dont know how to specify a password to go with it. If I simply change it to .Administrator (from Local System) it errors out.

Ideally I would like to script this so I can change the logon without having to go though the Services Control Panel or SQL Management Studio.

Thanks.

SQLServerAgent Won't Start

Jan 10, 2006

Hi all,

I have a maintenance plan on SQL2000, that is backing up the database.

It is under Management/SQL Server Agent. When I try to start the job, I got an error, saying: Error 22022 SQLServerAgent is not currently running so it cannot be notified of this action.

But, when I try to start the SQL Server Agent (in Services), it stops directly with the following information: The SQLAgent$Sharepoint service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service.

When I try to start it from the SQL Server Service Manager: no reaction at all!

What to do to fire the job ?

regards, Ger.
