Error 500, Maximum Concurrent Users Have Reached
Jul 20, 2005
We are running three web sites in a clustered environment
WLBS. The web servers are connected to a Database Server
running MS SQL server enterprise edition licensed as per
CPU license. The Windows 2000 Advanced Server Licensing
mode on all the servers is per SEAT license.
Our customers are accessing our web servers and after some
time getting error 500, Maximum concurrent users have
reached.
We have been told by our software provider that the
connection problem lies with the ADO components which
communicating with the SQL server.
We have been turning round and round, without any luck.
Your help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks and best regards
Dave

We have been running SQL Server 7 for the past 6 months, with no problems at all. All of a sudden, we have received the error message 17050, that the maximum limit for connections has been reached. We cannot now start Enterprise Manager or do anything. We have tried fiddling with licencing in control panel but to no avail. Does anyone have any idea why this has suddenly happened? Any tips would be great!
Cheers.

I am trying to setup transactional replication between Server A and Server B. There are 265 databases on each server.
I am running SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2003. The problem comes in at the 201st database. The message in the SQL Server Agent Error Log is :
Warning,[398] The job (WSSWPG09-EmpirePaint-WSSWPG06-104) has been queued because the maximum number of working threads (400) are already running. This job will be executed as soon as one of the working thread finishes execution.
SQL Server's max worker threads is set to 0. The Distribution, LogReader and T-SQL subsystems have been increased to 200 max_worker_threads.
Is there some other setting (maybe a Windows Registry setting) that can be configured to fix this? Or have I just hit a physical maximum of the processor?
Any help is much appreciated.

We have a big software that run a warehouse distribution center, written in .NET Backhand is a SQL Server 2008 R2 STD database.
Now, it seems there is a problem with the sessions not being properly closed after each call to the DB. Here is the message got form SQL:
DESCRIPTION:A new connection was rejected because the maximum number of connections on session ID 57 has been reached. Close an existing connection on this session and retry.
In the .NET code, connection is made with the following code:
If oConn Is Nothing Then oConn = New SqlConnection
If oConn.State = ConnectionState.Open Then oConn.Close()
With oConn
.ConnectionString = "Server=" & Server & ";Database=" & DB & ";User ID=" & User & ";Password=" & Pass & ";Connection Timeout=" & 5 & ";MultipleActiveResultSets=" & True
.Open()
End With
This code is called once, at the opening of the software
StoredProc are call with the code:
Try
oCmd = New SqlCommand
With oCmd
.Connection = oConn
.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
[Code] .....
So every Command is closed after execution, yet, they stay active in the SQL Server. Is there something I'm missing here?

One of our production databases was setup mirroring, log shipping and replication on it, the log file was setup unrestricted growth. This morning one index rebuilding process generated lots of logs, and the log file disk ran out of space, the database was in recovery mode. so we had to disable log shipping, pause mirroring and replication, expand log file disk, restarted SQL instance to fix the issue. Now we want to setup the log file to maximum size 80G, the whole log file disk is 120G.
So if the log file reached 80G next time, we can change the max size to 90G or 100G and it's easier to fix the space issue. My question is, if the database log file reached max size,
1. is the database still available?
2. Will the active session causing the issue be rollback to release space back?

I'll try and keep this brief so in a nutshell:I have large distributed java system running on a Windows 2003 server(4cpu 8Gb memory).Periodically the following exceptions occurs in the servers:java.net.SocketException: No buffer space available (maximumconnections reached?): recv failedI know for a fact we are not using too many TCPIP sockets or runningtoo many socket servers.I have googled this error and found very little to help me.What buffer space is this?What does recv failed mean?(Is it at all relevant that sql server is running on the same box?)Any advice appreciated.Thanks in advance.Dan

I have a table called dbo.PhoneCalls with below columns
PhoneID |PhoneNumber| Callstarttime| CallEndtime|
1 |111-111-1111|2013-04-01 05:13:03.000|2013-04-01 05:13:03.000
1 |222-222-2222|2013-04-01 05:15:12.000|2013-04-01 05:16:52.000
2 |333-333-3333|2013-04-01 05:17:29.000|2013-04-01 05:24:08.000
2 |444-444-4444|2013-04-01 05:21:50.000|2013-04-01 05:22:31.000
2 |555-555-5555|2013-04-01 05:22:41.000|2013-04-01 05:23:11.000
2 |666-666-6666|2013-04-01 05:23:20.000|2013-04-01 05:23:46.000
..........
1. PhoneID is nothing but the participant in the call. PhoneID = 1 is twice from above. Which means 2 particpants (Same call )with 2 numbers with their callstarttime and callendtime. Similarly for PhoneID =2, there are 4 participants. And the list goes on for a day and then for a month.
2. For example a phone call P1 with 2 participants is going on for a particular day. We should not consider the same phone call having 2 participants involved. So that the concurrency would be 2. We have to ignore that here.
3. Only to be considered is other Phone calls for that day. Lets say P1 having call with 2 participants, P2 having some 4 participants which fall in the time period of P1. Then we should consider P1 and P2 the common period
4. In order to find number of concurrent calls happened for a day basing on callstarttime and callendtime. What would be the query?
5. Should consider the Timeperiod or the bucket with 1 hour as the period.
6. A Phone Call P1, Phone Call P2, should have matching (common) time ( keeping all the scenarios) is required for this query.
Result for Concurrent calls for a day should be like below. Should get all the concurrent connections happened for a particular day.
Date|TimePeriod/Bucket(hr part)|Concurrentconnections|
Jan-01-2015|01 to 02|3
Jan-01-2015|11 to 12|2
Jan-02-2015|04 to 05|5
Jan-02-2015|12 to 13|13
........
ii) So once the above is achieved.
Have to find the Maximum concurrent connections for day from the above.
For below Maximum Concurrent connections are '3'
Date|TimePeriod/Bucket(hr part)|Concurrentconnections|
Jan-01-2015|01 to 02|3
Jan-01-2015|11 to 12|2
Hence the Result for Maximum Concurrent Connections would be
Date|TimePeriod/Bucket(hr part)|MaxConcurrentconnections|
Jan-01-2015|01 to 02|3
Jan-02-2015|12 to 13|13
.............

I know that if I set the Package.MaxConcurrentExecutables Property to -1, it will execute the maximum number of concurrent running executables to equal the number of processors plus two.
I have a requirement where I have to run the maximum number of concurrent running executables. However, the number of concurrent executables to run varies each month (it is not fixed).
If I have a loop inside the package that executes each stored procedure (same sproc, different parameter), will SQL Server execute the maximum number of concurrent running executables possible? (It may execute 4 or 8 at a time and that is fine.)
Thanks,
Michael

Hi
I need some rough figures for replication performance. Can anyone give an idea of the number of concurrent subscribers a single IIS server can safely handle before having to move to load balancing with multiple IIS servers.
I would estimate the average daily row changes to be in the region of 500 to 2500 per subscriber.
Any ideas?
Many thanks

Enterprise is very expensive. sucks that standard can't handle more than 2GB Ram

Individuals who only need inquiry access should only be allowed to login if there are licences available beyond the core group of users. Any Ideas? Thanks.

Hi,I have a web app, that runs fine, except for one particular section that uses a class called by an event in the code behind. The class resides as a dll in the bin folder. We had no problems during testing, when only one user was running this dll. Problems soon occurred when multiple users tried running it. Could it be a connection pool problem, with the connection being overwritten during execution? Should i edit it according to the users logon?I am really at a loss for ideas, and I don't mind admitting I am a bit out of my depth with this one!! I am researching this and playing with using the syss.sysprocesses view and counting the dbid column. I would most likely want to store this information in a table with a date/time stamp because we really want to track our concurrent users during the day for awhile. Do you have any neat tricks in getting this done? Is there a DMV or Information_Schema view that could be used to accomplish this task? I found the following code on the internet:
SELECT DB_NAME(dbid) AS DBName,
COUNT(dbid) AS NumberOfConnections,
loginame AS LoginName,
nt_domain AS NT_Domain,
nt_username AS NT_UserName,
hostname AS HostName

I have some code I build 2 weeks ago which I’ve been running daily but it’s suddenly stopped working with the following error.
“The table "tbl_Intraday_Tmp" has been created, but its maximum row size exceeds the allowed maximum of 8060 bytes. INSERT or UPDATE to this table will fail if the resulting row exceeds the size limit” When I google this there seems to be a related to tables with vast numbers of columns.
My table tbl_Intraday_tmp is relatively small. It has 7 columns. 1 of varchar(5), 3 of decimal(9,3) and 2 of decimal(18,0). The bit I’m puzzled with is it was working and stopped.
I don’t recall changing anything but I wouldn’t rule that out. I ‘ve inspected the source files and I don’t believe they have changed either.
DECLARE
@FileName varchar(50),
@Path varchar(50),
@SqlCmd varchar(1000)
= '',
@ASXCode varchar(5),
@Offset decimal(18,0),

I need a small SQL server for up to 10 users. If I understand the EULAs and FAQs correctly, there is no limit on the number of users imposed by the SQL Server 2005 Express license. If so, then the number of users is only limited by the OS's license so all I need is SQL Server 2005 Express (free), Windows XP Pro (10 users limit) and no CALs for either Windows or SQL Server.
I'd be thankful if someone could verify this.

I have a simple SP that returns 2 columns with 4 inner joins, results are about 100 odd rows max, nothing complicated. When I run the SP via SSMS it works fine, as soon as this is run via an application server the SP fails to complete with the error :
Internal error: An expression services limit has been reached. Please look for potentially complex expressions in your query, and try to simplify them.
We are not getting anywhere near the expression limit so I cannot understand why we are suddenly receiving this error. 2 weeks ago this query was running fine, no updates have been rolled out to the SQL database servers or application servers but the error is suddenly appearing on both prod and dev environments.

I have a package that has several data flows that run concurrently after some initial tasks and an initial data flow. I want transactions on each of the data flows and have set the transaction option to Required on the data flows (not on the package itself). I am also using checkpoint restart on the package. A couple things are happening.
1) the first data flow is successful and that releases the several that are waiting. Some of these complete OK but inevitably one or two will fail. The failing data flows will be different from run to run, sometimes one and sometimes two will fail. The error says:
Error: 0xC0202009 at Provider_NF_Code, Delete Provider_NF_Code [130]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Distributed transaction completed. Either enlist this session in a new transaction or the NULL transaction.".
My hunch is that DTC is getting the transactions mixed up. I think it is committing one just after another data flow has already started work expecting the transaction to still be active. That would explain why the failing data flows are random. Plus, if I set the MaxConcurrentExecutables to 1 the entire package is successful. BUT, why have concurrent tasks if you can't run them concurrently.
2) when the package fails with the DTC problem I restart it with the checkpoint file. I was expecting the package to restart with the failed data flows. Instead, it restarts with the initial data flow (that all the other flows wait for in the package). This data flow has always been successful. It's as if the transactions I have put on the individual data flows are actually placed on a single virtual container that all of them are in, and when down stream data flows fail the entire data flow chain is rolled back and set to restart.
How can I get multiple concurrent data flows to run with transactions?
Why are successful data flows being restarted? Can I get just the failed tasks to restart?
-Gordy
