I have copied a SQL Server 70 database to SQL Server 2000. Got error message during copying - 'unable to attach db' and when click on the db on SQL Server 2000, go erro - error 946 cannot open database version 525. Upgrade the database to the latest version. Anyone has any idea??:confused:

Now, I checked and verified that my backup version of SQL Server is the same as the version installed on the computer I'm restoring too.
I have SQL Server on a production machine that I backed up and want to test a full restore on a dev machine to make sure it will work when I need it to.
Now that I've run the restore command on my tape backup and go to restart the SQL server service I receive:
Configuration block version 0 is not a valid version number. SQL Server is exiting. Restore the master database or reinstall.
I'm afraid I don't understand why this is happening. If the builds are the same, then shouldn't restoring the MASTER database have worked normally and I'd be able to restart the service now?
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Ok so I'm using the Management Studio Express and was able to log in and get into the database server, but I had to click the "options>>" button and change database I wanted to connect to from <<default>> to my database on the server or else I get the "cannot open user database, login failed" error message.Then I right click my database and it gives me the "Cannot open user database. Login failed" error message, even though I already connected to the database to login during the connect screen. Also I'm able to interact with the database using SQL QUERIES in the Management Studio, like adding new tables with it, but if I right click the database and click "add table" I get that error.What gives? I know I have permission since I was able to log on, and modify the database using SQL queries but if use the GUI I can't use it. I can't even right-click select "properties" without getting that error. The reason I want to use the GUI is because I want to right click and use the backup feature of the database.My guess is that Management Studio continues to point to the default database(which gives me that message) after I already logged in, so I have no idea how to change the default database that management studio points to, to the one I do have permission to use. When I connect to SQL Server 2000 using SQL Server authentication I get error message error 4064, cannot open user default database. I can connect however if I use Windows Authentication.
The problem started when I did the ffg.
-backup sql db1
-restore db1 to another name (db2)
-drop db1
-use sp_detach
-use sp_attach to attach db2 as db1 (rename database)
When I connect in Query Analyzer via SQL Authentication I get the error, however via any other method it works fine.

Hi all,
I'm new to .NET and VB2008 and trying to write my first database application. It runs fine on my development PC (Vista) but I decided to publish/install an early beta to my daughters XP computer and am getting an error reading: Unable to open database.
The CD drive on that pc has been giving us trouble so I deployed to a subdirectory on the dev pc and moved those files to a thumbdrive, copied to the same subdirectory on client pc and installed from there. I've installed it more than once, trying different paths for the installed version hoping that was the issue but have hit a wall. Can anybody help?

Hi,We have 2 servers. Server1 is a 2000 box, with SP3 (yes I know it isnot up to date). Server2 is a 2005 box, SP2.I set up Server1 (2000) to have a linked server to Server2 (2005). Thereason I did this is because we are using a stored procedure onServer2 to send mail, as we have found that using mail on 2000 doesn'talways work as advertised.When I set up the linked server on the 2000 box, for security I justset it up to use a SQL Server user on the 2005 box. The SQL Serveruser on the 2005 box has permissions to run the stored procedure forsending mail.Here's the weird thing though. When calling the stored procedure onthe 2005 box from the 2000 box, sometimes we get an error that "Thedefault database cannot be opened", and the query does not run on the2005 box. However, it only happens *sometimes*. Other times, the queryruns fine.Since the problem seeemed to be with the default database, I changedthe SQL Server user on 2005 default database to the SAME database thatcontains the stored procedure.However, I just don't understand why it's even TRYING to open thedefault database, since when we called the linked server we are doingso as, and it's referencing the default database in the name:EXEC Server2.DefaultDatabase.dbo.StoredProcedureNameHowever, after changing the user's default database to"DefaultDatabase" as shown above, the query runs fine.Why are we having this problem? I've tried everything I've read that seemed applicable but still have a problem with the same error message, cannot open user default database.
This started detaching the database.
I'm using this connection string:

It's a WinForms application.
When I run in debug mode, I connect fine. I can do anything in the db in VisualStudio 2005.
Then I open the SQL Management Studio, connect to Sql Express, try to open the same database and it can't open it.
BUT...
If I stop running the VisualStudio application (I can leave VS open, but not run the app I'm developing),
and reopen SQL Management Studio, connect to Sql Express and open the same db, I can do anything.
It's not just VS and SQL either.
If I open CodeSmith and load a template I use that access the db, I can run my templates fine as long as I'm not running the application in VS or have the db open in SQL Express.
In other words, I can have one connection at a time only on this sql express db.
Before I detached it, I could have multiple connections at the same time.
I checked the properties in sql express and it says I can have multiple (4 is specified) connections at a time;
Allow remote access is also checked.
Arrow/Rick is db owner, the default database is Master.
I don't know any other information to provide.
DId I miss something? How can I get multiple connections working again on this?

I could solve this by giving the logged in windows user to impersonate under IIS window > WEBSITE > ASP.NET tab > EDIT CONFIG > APPLICATION tab

Environment: XP pro, VWD and SQL Express
I installed SQL 2005 including backward compatibility, MSDN libraries and SP2 a new Windows 2003 server (chose mixed mode authentication). Installation was successful and I then installed an off the shelf database with Windows authentication which also installed successfully.
I created a new group in AD, added the database users into the group and gave db-owner rights to the group in SQL as advised by the installation guide. However, when I try to open the database it gives an error message saying "Cannot open database.[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).] SQL server does not exist or access denied". I also tested it adding an individual user (myself) as a user to no avail.
When I set up DSN in ODBC on my computer I can successfully test the connection but can't run the application. The connection is via TCP/IP.
Any suggestions?

Last time I recieved this error I had to add ASPNet, NTAuthority, and myWebSiteUsers USERS under the database properties-->permissions setting for the specific database I am trying to access with the website but this database(QuoteSystem) does not lists any of these objects so I can add them. I went to my comp ->rt cick->manage-IIS->default website->rt click->properties->directory security->annoymouse access€¦EDIT->under Default domain it was blank, and i added a domain there.
And i was getting error opening up the reports from localhost.

I have MS-Access as data source for one of the reports. I can preview the report fine from BI studio however, it does not work when I deploy it on report server.
The error is :

The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '<UNC location of the MS-Access database>'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.
MS-Access database is located on a different server.
Any help to solve this? I understand it has something to do with permission both on server where reporting service is running as well as the server where MS-access database is located. Pls help.
I installed Sql Server 2005 Express Edition on an XP system this
morning and tried to attach Adventureworks, but got an error message
stating:The database 'Adventureworks' cannot be opend because it
is version 631. This server supports version 612 and
earlier. A downgrade path is not supported.Since both Sql
Server 2005 Express Edition, Management Studio, and the Adventureworks
database have all be downloaded within the past three days, I am
astonished that there is a compatibility issue. I have run
Adventureworks on other systems without problems. Any suggestions
on how to proceed?

if we generate a database file on a particular version of ms sql express and in time to come if there are a few more versions of ms sql express out there with the users - if we continue to package with our app a database file from an older version of sql express will that be a problem with users running a newer version of sql express ?
Also what about the converse scenario - where we ship a database file from a newer version of sql while the customer is still running on an older version.

We have a back end procedure that inserts/updates records in a table. Usually the upload file will have around 20k records. This procedure is called from our application which is designed using hibernate,struts.
Upload is getting completed. But after the upload is over and control goes to application code, we are again hitting the above table to get some details. Is this the root cause for the below issue?
This is what we get in application logs,

When I am giving http://localhost/reportserver in internetexplorer the followig error message is coming.

After the error message I did the following steps
1. SQLserver configuration tool
2. Report server configuration
3. Given the machene name as SQL, instance name MSSQL
4. Given the server name, and selected the reportserver as database
5. Clicked upgraded button
6. Veryfy Database edition showed in green ticked mark
7 Veryfy database version showed as error " The databse version doesnot match ur reporting service installation. You must upgrade reporting service database "
8. After that I again clicked upgrade button but the same error message is showing ....
Please help me to solve this problem
