Error: Cannot Start Your Application. The Workgroup Information File Is Missing Or Opened Exclusively By Another User.
May 7, 2008
Hi all,
I'm kinda new at programming, and am currently attempting to create a web application. I have an error when I try to insert information into a sql server database, and can't find how to fix it no matter how hard I try.
The error I get is: Cannot start your application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user.
I have it so a user is logged in and is shown a form to fill out, then submits it (which creates an insert statement and sends it to the database).
hye everyone, when i browse my web application the eror as below display.. what should i do.. any suggestion or tips...
"Cannot start your application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Cannot start your application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user. "
I would like to password protect my MS Access Database which is being exported to from SQL 2000 using DTS, but when I password protect it, I get an error message stating "The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user". The ACCESS file has to be opened exclusively to add password protection. Any suggestions?
I'am doing functionality test on DTS packages and saving my DTS packages to meta data services instead of saving them as local packages. We would like to see what information would be provided by saving them this way, but when we try to open the meta data browser (the 3rd icon under DTS) we get the following error:
An error occurred while trying to access the database information. The msdb database could not be opened.
but after the assignment the LocalConnectionString is different from ConnectionStringWithoutCredentials, there are much more ssce parameters.
What I don't understand is:
why I'm getting this error even after closing the connection ?
Since the error report [32] the ssce conflicting parameters shoud be AUTO_SHRINK_THRESHOLD, FLUSH_INTERVAL and MAX_DATABASE_SIZE
I tried to cut & paste the same values from LocalConnectionString into app.config connection string, at first It seemed to work, but now I got the same error.
I am facing a issue with bulk upload on Test Server.
Issue: When running Openrowset command from SQL server other that Test Server query runs fine when trying to run the same command from Test Server it gives error.
Msg 4861, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot bulk load because the file "\ServerNameinputFileName.csv" could not be opened. Operating system error code 5(Access is denied.).
For example: If the command is run from System A connecting to SQL Server instance on Test Server Test Server it gives this error. If the same command with same rights is run from any other SQL server instance say Dev1 its running fine.
If the command is run from Test Server connecting to any SQL Server instance including Test Server it is running fine.
Tried: 1) Given the read/write rights on shared folder, to user under which the SQL server service is running on Test Server
2) Given the read/write rights on shared folder to everyone.
Query:
SELECT DISTINCT * FROM OPENROWSET
(
BULK '\ServerNameinputFileName.csv',
FORMATFILE='\ServerNameFormat.xml'
)
AS FileList
Please provide me with some solution. What can be the reason for such behaviour?
For the past couple of days, I have been trying to get my SQL Server to work with Distributed Views. I am created linked servers, linked server logins, set XACT Abort ON.
I am successful in running a select against the distributed view, but was unable to run an "INSERT"
When I try a simple insert, the query took 3:14 minutes. Then I get an error message like:
Server: Msg 7391, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' was unable to begin a distributed transaction. [OLE/DB provider returned message: New transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction coordinator. ] OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' ITransactionJoin::JoinTransaction returned 0x8004d00a].
I have checked that MSDTC is running and configured under a domain account on both machines - running sQL 2000 and win2K
I have been unsuccessful still after tinkering for several days. I have checked my network configurations and noticed that when I try to ping the other machine by name, I don't get a response. I can only get a response to a ping when I enter the IP address directly.
Could this be a problem? Also, I noticed that for some strange reason, whenever I ping from either machine it is showing an external IP - always the same one no matter which computer name I try to ping. Something like 209.xxx.xxx.xxx instead of the 192.xxx.xxx.xxx that I expect.
Finally, I thought that problem was possibly due to incorrect Active Directory configuration. I tried to remove both machines from the domain by changing them to a workgroup "TEST" instead of the domain.
When I restarted the PC, I am unable to start SQL Server. It shows the Red Stop sign. When I try to start it, it gives an error like: Service could not start because one or more dependencies failed.
When I add the machine back to the domain, SQL server starts working on reboot.
== I asked this question directly to Remus and wanted to share the response to all of those people using this forum == We recently moved our database server from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005. All applications on our intranet development server stay the same [VS.NET 2003], but recently resources in our Dev DB server ran out of space. While doing a thorough investigation, I noticed ERRORLOG file was occupying about 35 Gig of HDD space. I immediately checked SQL Server error log and noticed an entry which says €“ =========================================================================================== Date 7/7/2006 4:45:37 PM Log SQL Server (Current - 7/7/2006 4:45:00 PM)

Message The activated proc [dbo].[SqlQueryNotificationStoredProcedure-5eaf8465-d0cb-4be7-93b6-44bb979dd41c] running on queue BW_Content.dbo.SqlQueryNotificationService-5eaf8465-d0cb-4be7-93b6-44bb979dd41c output the following: 'Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'BWCINCHoffK', error code 0x534.' ===========================================================================================
What is this SqlQueryNotificationService in my database? Is it a SQL Server 2005 thing? Why the same kind of stored procedure does not exist in other databases, but BW_Content? This error is getting repeated most probably every second and is filling up our server. I believe our corporate IT people removed our domain accounts from BWCINC domain to BWCORP domain and probably some application which is using BWCINCHoffK credential is getting errored out. I tried to locate this application and was not successful. Is there anyway that I can stop this ERRORLOG from growing? How can I delete these log entries so that I can make space on our Hard Drive? Is there an easy way in SQL Server 2005 to locate which application is creating this error? Response from Remus: The 'SqlQueryNotificationService-...' is the service created by SqlDependency when you call SqlDependency.Start (). The problem you describe appears because the 'dbo' user of the database is mapped to the login that originally created this database. The SqlDependency created queue has an EXECUTE AS OWNER clause, owner is 'dbo' and therefore this is equivalent to an EXECUTE AS USER = 'dbo'. The error you see is reported by the domain controller when asked to give information about the original account 'dbo' mapps to (that is, BWCINCHoffK'): Error code: (Win32) 0x534 (1332) - No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.
To solve the issue, change 'dbo' to match a correct login, using either sp_changedbowner or ALTER AUTHORIZATION ON DATABASE::[dbname] TO [somavalidlogin] To find the databases that have this problem, run this query:
select name, suser_sname(owner_sid) from sys.databases The databses that have the problem will show NULL on the second column. A similar problem is described here: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=65711&SiteID=1
To remove the entries, use sp_cycle_errorlog to force a new errorlog file, then delete the huge log file. ---------------------------------------
I executed ALTER AUTHORIZATION ON DATABASE::[BW_Content] TO [sa];
I got this error in SQL Error Log once and the growth of ERRORLOG was stopped. =============================================================== Date 7/10/2006 1:16:55 PM Log SQL Server (Current - 7/10/2006 1:17:00 PM) Source spid20s

This is my code and all works great except when there is an apostriphe in the logon name. Example: MRPJUser ( works greate ) Example: MRPJ'User (I get the server error at the bottom) Is there an Imports statement that would fix this, or where is my code failing, and what do I need to do to fix it?

Greetings, I have just arrived back into the country (NZ) and back into ASP.NET. I am having trouble with the following:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file (file location).../Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page. Anyone have any ideas why i am getting the above error? have searched many places on the internet and not getting any closer. Cheers ~ J
I have a serious problem with either SQL Server or SQL Reporting Services. I have 7 tables in a database that are relational. I have created serveral reports against this database. Last week when I pulled one of the reports, I was missing information on one of the cells. The reason why I know this is because my boss has us verify the report against the database. That took about an hour to complete. When we found that the report was not correct I repulled the report and the cell that was empty, was now populated. What gives? This is the same report I have pulled for the last month and had no problems until now. Is there a time issue involved between the last update to the database to the time I pull the report? Or maybe there is something wrong with the query?

This is my first time to deploy an asp.net2 web site. Everything is working fine on my local computer but when i published the web site on a remote computer i get the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed" (only in pages that try to access the database) Help pleaseee

I am using MS Access project as a frontend and MSDE 2000 as a backend database. I have few users and i want to give every one restricted access to database based on their use.
How can i create user accounts. I checked tools-->Security--> but workgroup admin option is not active. How to solve this puzzle
with my ssis-package i have to read several flatfiles. this files are stored in different folders on a unix machine. in my loop-task i have first a script, that checks whether the file exists. it does, so i set the path to a variable. in the connection-manager for the flat-file i have set source for the file to that variable. the bulk-insert-task starts, read the file and everithing is cool. but, sometimes, the package fails with this message:
[Bulk Insert Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Cannot bulk load because the file "\Owpu0kas 0 0 5 eceivedw000005.090" could not be opened. Operating system error code 53(error not found)."
i stop the degugging-mode, restart debuging and what happens? it runs ... maybe for the next one, two or three files and the error comes again, but never on the same file. i'm going crazy, what can i do?
I have been playing with a Standard Version of VS 2005 and SSE 2005 and I just cannot get these two to interact together well. I am sure it is a noob problem but I have seen this error addressed on this forum and I am just not getting it. Here is exactly what I am doing.
I want to create a database within SSE using the Management Studio. Then, I want to connect to it with VS2005. Both SSE and VS2005 are local. I just cant seem to get this to work.
I always seem to get this error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataSecond.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
One thing... I create the website with Location: HTTP. I don't even know anymore why I do this.. I think because I like to be able to pull up a browser and get to my app. Other than that I am doing nothing special. However, I get the above error when I hit F5 to run the app inside VS2005.
Is there someplace where a complete noob can find a thorough and simple covering of this? Again, I have read through some of the previous posts on this and I don't understand too many of them and it seems as if there are at least 13 causes of which I don't know which one I have. Help!
missing witness server information and the fail-over is broken suddenly? 4:00am no maintenance job. I have one sql job on 10pm for backup on database transaction log only.

Hi I've build a client management (Windows) application in VS2005 which works fine on the local development machine but falls over when trying to connect to the SQL Server Express file located on a second machine on the same Workgroup. Several of the apllications will connect to the database file from networked computers. The error I get when testing the connection or trying to connect via the App is:---------------------------------------------------------------The file "Z:BushBreaks.MDF" is on a network path that is not supported for database files. An attempt to attach and auto-named database for file z:ushbreaks.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened or it is on a UNC share.--------------------------------------------------------------- How can I configure this database and/or connection to be able to allow connections to the MDF file? Please note that security is not an issue if that is at all relevant. Many ThanksJohn
Now I'm trying to implement logic to check if excel file is opened or not if open send out email in Script task. Using c#

I have a 2003 Server which has two Named Instances of SQL Server 2000.
I need to add a third Named Instance, but when I logged onto the Server this morning, I noticed that all of the 'Microsoft SQL Server' Entries are missing from the START/PROGRAMS menu !! Enterprise Manager, BOL... everything!! The SQL Server Service Manager is running and both of my Instances are up and running (this is a production box). I can launch Enterprise Manager from MMC.EXE in WINDOWSSystem32 folder... very weird!!!!
In my Add/Remove Programs, I see MS SQL Server listed Twice.. one time for each of the two named Instances.
Has anyone ever seen this before??? Do you think it's safe to run SQL Server Installation to Install a Third Instance on this box???
Using SQL native client from VFP 9.0 to SQL Server 2005 64 bit SP1 (happened before SP1 too)..
We have a stored procedure that returns 6 result sets. This SP uses 2 cursors. It is rather lengthy - I'll post the code if needed.
This SP works fine when called from VFP 99 percent of the time. Normally takes 2 to 3 secunds to execute.
Once in a while we will get a return from SQL ..
"OLE IDispatch exception code 0 from Microsoft SQL Native Client: A server cursor cannot be opened on the given statement or statements. Use a default result set or client cursor..."
The OLE error code is 1429. An OLE Exception code 3604 is also returned.
When this happens the SP will return the same error when executed for the same parameters over and over when called from VFP. When called directly from SQL management console it will normally work for the same parameters, although once in a while it will just hang (and not timeout apparently). In that case it will also hang from SQLCMD command line utility as well.
Wait a few hours and the SP will run fine for the same parameters in VFP. This happens even in the middle of the night when there is no possibility that data is being changed.
Here's the really fun part...
Open the SP source for modification (ALTER PROCEDURE) in management console and execute it (no changes at all, just let it recompile). Immediately it will work fine when called with the same parameters called from VFP or anywhere else (even if it was one of the rare instances where it hung in management console). This works EVERY TIME.
Sooo... I edited and executed the SP with the WITH RECOMPILE option assuming that that should do the trick (same as alter procedure/executing from management console right?). NOPE. Same problems. In order to work around the problem when the error occurs, I HAVE TO alter procedure and execute the code from management console.
I have a package that does an FTP and some File System Tasks. It runs perfectly fine in BIDS but doesn't want to run via SQL Agent. Is the SQL Server Edition the problem?
Dear friends, I am working in .net windows application with sql server 2000. My problem is like some times sql server service automatically stoped when restart my machine. Then i start the service manually.after that if i restart my machine it not affect the service.I mean only at first time restart the machine make this problem. Anybody know any solution for this problerm?. Also how can i anable TCP/IP through application.
Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me answer this question.
If I had a site like Yahoo, that constantly had users accessing it. Would it be a good or bad idea to automatically open a database connection to SQL Server on Application Start? What would you recommend? Would opening and closing the DB connection on every page save alot of overhead and bottleneck? Thank You.
Hi all hope some one can help - please bear with me new to this Basically I have had to change pc's so I copied and pasted my ASPNET.MDF and LDF from my old pc to new PC including webpages/apps etc.. created. However now all I get is "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path """" Just don't understand what permissions the db should have, does it need to match the SQL Express owner...
I installed my asp.net 2.0 web application and sql express june editon on my windows 2003 server. When the application tries to reach the database i am getting the following error"Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed."I can understand that it has something to do with user right but more than that I am pretty lost. Can anyone translate this error for me and give me some tips on what do to.I checked first the user running the sql express service and saw it was the NETWORK SERVICE user. I changed it to be the local system account but that did not make any difference. The application is running just fine on my local computer(Win XP sp2). This one has SQL express April edition though.
What are the points needed to be taken care of before starting develop an application that uses sql express as a local database. For example is there a need for an early configuration to make all end users (after the installing app from a cd to their own machines) of the application to connect to the database that I am designing. I saw many posts related to this issue but none of them describes the process step by step. So if an experienced guy/girl outlines the steps I would be delightful.
Has experienced this error when trying to open SSMS? Was working fine earlier. I have tried uninstall/reinstall, a few reboots, repairing the install, etc.
