Error Code 6 Stopping Installation Of SRS 2000
Feb 27, 2007
Hi,
during install of SRS 2000 in a dev environment I get the following error:
Error Code 6
Installing Performance Monitor Objects failed.
If I choose ignore, the wizard freezes and no further activity is performed regardless of how long I leave it.
Also, during the install it does not automatically detect the SQL server name when nominating the server, you have to type this in manually even after refreshing the list.
The SQL server was installed using the default instance.
Being installed on 2000 Server with latest service pack, and with SQL 2000 on sp4.
Any help on this would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I assume I'm trying to install SQL Server Express 2005 as it's part of a larger installation package (Neat Receipts Professional 3.0.3).
During the installation of SQL Server 2005, I get the following error message:
The SQL Server System Configuration Checker cannot be executed due to WMI configuration on the machine ACERLAPTOP Error:3221225477 (0xc0000005)
I'm running XP Home SP2 with all known patches applied.
CPU is AMD Athlon Turion(TM) 64 Mobile Technology ML-30, 1600 MHz
I'm also running ZoneAlarm Security Suite Pro for firewall and antivirus.
If further information is needed, just ask.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to get past this obstacle?

Hello,
I am applying hourly differential backup to the backup server from production with the following command. This command makes the database on standby server into read only mode.
RESTORE DATABASE ARSYSTEM FROM DISK = 'E:SQL backup from productionsql_full_backup'
WITH MOVE 'arsystem' TO
'd:ardataarsystem.mdf' ,
MOVE 'arsystem_log' TO 'D:ARLOGARsystem' ,
STANDBY = 'E:SQL backup from productionSQL daily diff back up'
Now I want to run a command which will put the database in write mode. I have created a job which would make the datbase Write mode. This job runs successfully sometimes and fails sometimes. I need to ensure that the job always succeeds. When it fails, how do I troubleshoot and what is the possible fix?
Thanks in advance.
The error message is
Cannot apply the backup on device 'E:SQL backup from productionSQL daily diff back up' to database 'ARSYSTEM'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3136) RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013). The step failed.
The steps for the job are as follows with the failing step highlighted in bold.
copy /y "\172.31.9.12Remedy BackupackupSQL backupsql_full_backup" "E:SQL backup from productionsql_full_backup"
copy /y "\172.31.9.12Remedy BackupackupSQL backupSQL daily diff back up" "E:SQL backup from productionSQL daily diff back up"
xp_cmdshell 'net stop "bmc remedy action request system server"'
exec rp_kill_db_processes 'ARSYSTEM'
RESTORE DATABASE ARSYSTEM
FROM DISK = 'E:SQL backup from productionsql_full_backup'
WITH
MOVE 'arsystem' TO 'd:ardataarsystem.mdf' ,
MOVE 'arsystem_log' TO 'D:ARLOGARsystem' ,
NORECOVERY
Failing step
RESTORE DATABASE ARSYSTEM
FROM DISK = 'E:SQL backup from productionSQL daily diff back up'
WITH
MOVE 'arsystem' TO 'd:ardataarsystem.mdf' ,
MOVE 'arsystem_log' TO 'D:ARLOGARsystem' ,
RECOVERY
xp_cmdshell 'del /f "E:SQL backup from productionsql_full_backup"'
xp_cmdshell 'del /f "E:SQL backup from productionsql daily diff back up"'
xp_cmdshell 'net start "bmc remedy action request system server"'
I have scheduled the following hourly diffential restore job too which never fails.
RESTORE DATABASE ARSYSTEM FROM DISK = 'E:SQL backup from productionsql_full_backup'
WITH MOVE 'arsystem' TO
'd:ardataarsystem.mdf' ,
MOVE 'arsystem_log' TO 'D:ARLOGARsystem' ,
STANDBY = 'E:SQL backup from productionSQL daily diff back up'
EXEC MASTER..XP_CMDSHELL 'del /f "E:SQL backup from productionSQL daily diff back up"'

Question:
I am unclear what syntat to use to stop (suspend) the log reader agent.
Things I Understand:
I understand how to manually stop the reader agent using the enterprise manager.
I understand how to schedule the load reader frequency (properties of the agent)
My Intention:
to stop the log reader agent, execute another scheduled job, then restart the log reader
Any suggestions are appreciated: comment here or send to:fglomb@crtincbc.com
Thanks!

Hi All,
Recently in an SSIS package I am getting the following error for a particular Data flow task.
Error: 2008-01-25 12:01:48.58
Code: 0xC0202009
Source: Import Datasynapse Data User Events Source [3017]
Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF.
End Error
Error: 2008-01-25 12:01:48.73
Code: 0xC004701A
Source: Import Datasynapse Data DTS.Pipeline
Description: component "User Events Source" (3017) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202009.
End Error
Our guess is when the data size of User Events table is more it throws this error. If we try to transfer small subset of data it succeeds. What could be reason for this error?
Since this is very urgent, immediate response would be very much appreciated.
Thanks & Regards,
Prakash Srinivasan

Hi all--I'm trying to convert a function which I inherited from a SQL Server 2000 DTS package to something usable in an SSIS package in SQL Server 2005. Given the original code here:
Function Main()
on error resume next
dim cn, i, rs, sSQL
Set cn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
cn.Open "Provider=sqloledb;Server=<server_name>;Database=<db_name>;User ID=<sysadmin_user>;Password=<password>"
set rs = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
set rs = DTSGlobalVariables("SQLstring").value
for i = 1 to rs.RecordCount
sSQL = rs.Fields(0).value
cn.Execute sSQL, , 128 'adExecuteNoRecords option for faster execution
rs.MoveNext
Next
Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success
End Function
This code was originally programmed in the SQL Server ActiveX Task type in a DTS package designed to take an open-ended number of SQL statements generated by another task as input, then execute each SQL statement sequentially. Upon this code's success, move on to the next step. (Of course, there was no additional documentation with this code. :-)
Based on other postings, I attempted to push this code into a Visual Studio BI 2005 Script Task with the following change:
public Sub Main()
...
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success
End Class
I get the following error when I attempt to compile this:
Error 30209: Option Strict On requires all variable declarations to have an 'As' clause.
I am new to Visual Basic, so I'm on a learning curve here. From what I know of this script:
- The variables here violate the new Option Strict On requirement in VS 2005 to declare what type of object your variable is supposed to use.
- I need to explicitly declare each object, unless I turn off the Option Strict On (which didn't seem recommended, based on what I read).
Given this statement:
dim cn, i, rs, sSQL
I'm looking at "i" as type Integer; rs and sSQL are open-ended arrays, but can't quite figure out how to read the code here:
Set cn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
cn.Open "Provider=sqloledb;Server=<server_name>;Database=<db_name>;User ID=<sysadmin_user>;Password=<password>"
set rs = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
This code seems to create an instance of a COM component, then pass provider information and create the recordset being passed in by the previous task, but am not sure whether this syntax is correct for VS 2005 or what data type declaration to make here. Any ideas/help on how to rewrite this code would be greatly appreciated!

I have two tasks on a control flow. First task is Execute SQL task which drop an index. Second one is a Data Flow task. I also have an error handler for packcage_onerror. Because there is no index in the database, the first task rasies an error and package on error catches the error. The precedence constraint for the Data Flow task in "success". I don't expect the data flow task to execute because of the error. But it does. Is this the right behavior because I have already handle the error? I don't want the the job to continue if there is any error. I believe I should raise error in the error handler. Pleae help me how to do this. Thanks

I just installed SQL Server 2000 Developers edition on my computer. After installation I tried to create a simple table which I was unable to do. When I attempted to create the table, I went into SQL Server Enterprise Manager and under Console Root I extended / Microsoft SQL Servers / SQL Server Group / (local) Windows NT when it gave me the following 2 message box errors :
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An error 1069-(The service did not start due to login failure)occured while preforming this server operation on the MSSQL service.
---and---
A connection could not be established to (local).
Reason: SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
ConnectionOpen(Connect()).
Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Servier registion properties(by right-
clicking on the (local) node) and try again.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have Windows XP Professional and currently run IIS. I have tried re-registering without success and at this point I don't know what I need to do in order to correct these errors and create a simple table.

Hi, I'm learning ASP.net and I just bought Visual Studio .net professional. I tried to install MS SQL server 2000 on my two computers. One OS is windows server 2003 standard edition and another is Win XP professional. Both of them appeared SQL Server Upgrade Wizard "from server 6.5 upgrade to server 2000". I don't think I have server 6.5 installed and there is no server 6.5 application interface to run the server. What's the problem? I cannot run the Wizard successfully. Can I just ignore it?Thank you,William

Hello Guru's, I need your help!
I installed sql server 2000 sp2 standard edition on Windows 2003, when
installing, it said "This version is not supported on this os", but I was told
to continue installing the software and that I could install the latest
security patches to bring it up to date. Will that work? Do I need to do
anything else? SQL Server 2000 is up and running on the box. When running
the statement " select @@version" it informed me that I was at 8.00.194
patch level. How can I tell if SQL Server 2000 is 32 or 64 bit? I was
trying to download the lasted patch and it asked for that info. Thanks.--

I'm installing it in my PC which has an OS of Windows XP Pro SP2.
During the Systems Prerequisisite Checks on the installation the error is as follows "This edition of Reporting Services does not support installing the service components on this operating system"
When I continue the installation, the Report Manager and the Report Server was not installed.
Take Note: My IIS 5.1 is working as well as my Visual Studio 2003.
I hope you can give me details on what should I do to install this properly.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me here. To be honest, this is my first time i have encountered SQL Server 2000 SP4. I need some guidance as to how to install and set up the SQL Server 2000 SP4. I have done it with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and it's (I think) a lot easier to install and get it going.
My computer runs on windows XP Pro (windows 32bit). I got confused when i got to the following microsoft webpage - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8e2dfc8d-c20e-4446-99a9-b7f0213f8bc5&DisplayLang=en. I downloaded SQL2000-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.EXE. And when running the setup.bat, the message came up saying "SQL Server 2000 is not installed on this machine. setup will now exit". What do i need to have the SQL Server 2000 installed on my machine?
Thank you in advance

Hello,
We got a problem, we have default instance of the SQL 2005, and it owns 1433 port. We need to install named instance of the SQL 2000, problem that it installs using port 1304, that is not default. Of course we can use this port in the connection string, but may be some sort of the solution exists?

Hi,
I am using Windows 2003 Standard Server (stand alone) and trying to install SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition. The installation stops whenever I have entered the sa password (the dialog box disappeared and then nothing happed, but the "setupsql" process (something like this) is still there).
The same happened when I install SQL Server 2000 in Windows 2000 Server. For Win2K, I can first install SQL Server 7.0 and then upgrade to 2000 (same SQL Server 2000 installation CD!). However, Windows 2003 doesn't support SQL Server 7.0. So I can't use this method...
Any idea?
Thanks.
Michael

Im attempting to install SQL Server 2000 Standard on Windows XP Pro and it keeps returning to me an error:
"Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition server component is not supported on this operating system. Only client components will be available for installation."
Anybody have any idea what this means according to the documentation and previous posts on installation problems my operating system should support this edition of SQL server.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2000 on a new Windows 2003 server. I stopped the IIS and tried installing from two different CDs. In both cases I got the following error right at the start of the installation -
--------------------------------------------------------------
E:MSSQLx86setupsetupsql.exe
Windows cannot open this program since it has been disbaled.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Any help that can solve this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

We're trying to use the unattended installation method for installing SQL 2000 on Windows 2000 servers. I've installed it (through terminal server) on two machines successfully, and two machines unsuccessfully. On the unsuccessful machines, it fails with no errors, and no SQL files are installed (bombs out almost immediately).
Anyone else had this problem? Could it possibly be a hardware issue?
