We're having problems with our SQL 2000 SP3 standard server (on Win 2k3). Our quasi-data-warehouse application does data processing on feeds of approximately 7 million records. Once the data is loaded in the queries against that data and updates against large tables will often wait with PAGEIOLATCH_SH contention. To give an example, over 7 million rows I was testing something out in development and issued: UPDATE <Table> SET <VarcharColumn> = null, which took forever (over an hour) with the PAGEIOLATCH problem....meanwhile someone else using another database was completely blocked from making an update during that time. It seems like something is very wrong.
The server has 4 drives spinning at 15k rpm with some sort of a high end raid controller, so I'm sure it's not a slow i/o subsystem.
Has anyone experienced this behavior before? Is this an issue that's resolved in 2000 SP4?

For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors We just have Reporting Services server (2005) up and running, my roles are browser, Content Manager, My Reports, Publisher, Report Builder. I was able to deployed the report and set up data source. Connect using credentials supplied by suer running the report, and use as Windows credentails when connecting to the data source checked. Did a search on but can't find any messages that related to this problem. Please advise.
I have created a Report Model and published it on our QA environment Report Server(Where I dont have admin access). When I try to launch the Report Builder tool and create a sample report and Run the report it gives me this error. "The permissions granted to user 'Domainname/user group' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)" I checked with the Admins on this server the usergroup has a "Browser" Role. I had read on some online fourm that if user group has browser role it should work. But I cant get it work any help is appreciated.
I have published the same Report Model in Deveploment environment report server(where I have admin access) and when I do the same thing I am able to run the reports.
Some one please help me its causing delay in our testing.
I am setting my Dataset in SSRS to define the First Day of the week to Sunday. So In the Dataset I put this scripting : ================================== SET DATEFIRST 7; SELECT city, country, datepart(wk,transactdate) as WeekNo from CatalogTable ================================== The select statement above working very fine in the report.
But then, when I put in the Parameter which I have set in Report Parameter for a field called Service then I will get the problem. For example the scripting below : ================================== SET DATEFIRST 7; SELECT city, country, datepart(wk,transactdate) as WeekNo from CatalogTable where Service IN (@PService) ================================== I have defined @PService in Report Parameter, and in the Parameter Tab in Dataset inside SSRS. But it kept prompting me with the eror message : Error Source : .Net SqlClient Data Provider Error Message : Must declare the scalar variable "@PService".
When I remove the first line SET DATEFIRST 7; then my query working fine.
It seems SSRS cannot accept SET statement, whenever we insert the parameter in there. Is there any workaround on this ?

I have a crystal report that calls a stored procedure from SQL Server 2000. The only parameter I have is @A the SP is: -------------- CREATE PROCEDURE Final @A INT AS Declare @SQL VARCHAR(2000) SET @SQL = 'SELECT * FROM Schools where Areano = @A' EXEC(@SQL) GO
-------------
From the standard report creation wizard, i choose the data (SP). and select the SP, then i got window to enter a parameter values for @A, and i check ( Set to Null value), then press OK, the following error occured
I have a old report that was pointing to a different database, and i changed the connection string for that report and changed the field names (As per my new stored Procedure). In some places I keep getting this run time error, i have tried looking for all the hidden references to this field and i cannot find any parameter that the old database had. The error messages that i get are as follows:
[rsFieldReference] The Hidden expression for the table €˜tblContactInfo€™ refers to the field €˜PL_Admin_ShowInKit€™. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current data set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope.
[rsFieldReference] The Hidden expression for the table €˜tblContactInfo€™ refers to the field €˜PL_FA_ShowInKit€™. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current data set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope.
[rsFieldReference] The Hidden expression for the table €˜tblWithdrawals€™ refers to the field €˜PW_Comment€™. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current data set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope.
Can Someone please help me out as to how should i get rid of these error messages, they are kinda driving me nuts.
My apologies...I wasn't for sure where to post an error like this...
Over the last 2 months I have gotten this SQL Server error (twice). All existing processes will continue to work, however no new processes can be created and users cannot connect to the server. This is the exact text of the message in the SQL Server error log.

While we can typically just stop SQL Server Service and restart the services...I have found it is best to restart the machine during non-production times to take care of any 'residual' effects of this error.
The SQL Server 2000 SP4 box with Windows 2003 Standard SP1 is well maintained by our I.T. team and it typically will run 4 or 5 months without a reboot.
I have a pretty complicated report (lots of subreports, tables, etc) that can be well over a few hundred pages long. I can generate the report just fine, but I cannot seem to export it to anything other than an html archive. I need to export to PDF. Every time I try to export it get an error that says:
An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details.
I don't get any more information than that. Is there a way that I can figure out what the actual error is, or any other way I can go about troubleshooting this? Thanks.
Hi,I have an app that imports alot of info from alot of files, processes it and stores it in a SQL database. It works fine except for the fact that if tries to import to much information (about 50000 lines) the whole machine grinds to a halt. It processes the first part quickly enough but then gets progresively slower untill its at a stand still. Could this be due to:a) the fact that I read from several different files ; do I need to free up the memory assciated after closing 1 file and opening another.b) I have over 3000 tables ; is this mad? should I restructure?c) I do many thousands of inserts; Are there memory freeing issues I need to be aware of? Thanks for any helpDan
I began recieving the following error message. How can I resolve this?
SQL Server SQL Server could not find the specified named instance (PINNACLESYS) - please specify the name of an existing instance on the invocation of sqlserver.exe.
I have a website that works OK on my local machine when I test it within Microsoft Visual Studio's debugging mode. However now that I have copied it over to a remote server it is failing with an error message of:An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)As far as I'm aware I have never used SQL Server with my webpage. All connections to databases are to Oracle with connection strings and providers set up in the webconfig file. The website does however use a login control to recognise authorised users. Does this mean I've unknowingly been using SQL Server (to support the login control) and I therefore need to install this on the remote machine? Or is it something simpler? Wondered if anybody had seen this error message before?
I'm working with a small ISP/Hosting company and we set up a development server with NT, Site Server, SQL 6.5, and Site Site Commerce Edition. It has been working fine, but the other night their network guy assigned a new IP address to the NT server.
Now SQL server can't talk to/find the NT server. Any time you try to look at anything in Enterprise Manager, it throws the error:
DBLibrary - Server is unavailable or does not exist...general network error.
We can't figure out how/where to tell SQL Server that NT has a new IP address, and get it all working again.
Hi All, I'm running peoplesoft 8.8 on MS-SQL 2000 SP4. When I try to access my peoplesoft application through web and add access some pages, I get some error like "SQL error. We have use SQL Server 2005 on 64bit windows 2003 server Cluster. In the application log I noticed the following errors during . When error occurred , i was copying the 45 GB backup file from this machine to another Network machine over 1Gbps network link. The sql server database was used by many user. The SQL resorce probably failed in this failover cluster. We could immediately restart the group. So what could be the cause of the error? anyone has faced this problem ?. Here are the logs in chronology. Any recommended remedy / parameter change to prevent this further (of course besides not copying full backup file online. Normally it's done at night in lean times)
I got through the installation hoops for SQLEXPRESS Reporting Services in Vista and set up the default configurations in Report Services Configuration. I can explore the default directory for "Reports" in IIS7, but I can't browse in IE. I get the "The report server is not responding. verify that the report server..." message in the browser. This is after I migrated the app per the initial http 500 error using the preferred method - %systemroot%system32inetservAPPCMD.exe migrate config "Default Web Site/Reports".
I'm running Vista Ultimate, VS2005, SQLEXPRESS SP2. I've tried running IE as admin and also I've disabled UAC from gpedit.msc - ...Windows SettingsSecurity SettingsLocal PolicySecurity Options and unchecking UAC.
Hi there, I access to server SQL by an application on web,I configured the ODBC box for using TCP/IP and the server use also the TCP/IP. I have this message :
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]Specified SQL server not found. /medecin/IdentificationAcces/membre_enregistrer.asp, line 108
I have a SQL server scheduled to replication. This works fine if it has to do that one the sever on the same mechine. If it has to be done to another server, the replication fails with the following error message.

The following function I am trying to design is to INSERT data into a SQL Server 2005 database. It is called from a different function, parse_file();, which is looping through a .CSV file and returning each record as an array to recordInsert();. Here is the function code and SQL syntax
I am receiving the following error when attempting to INSERT into the database.
Code:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The name "YFM700RVL" is not permitted in this context. Valid expressions are constants, constant expressions, and (in some contexts) variables. Column names are not permitted.
I have tried googling the error and since it is a long error, it has been hard trying to find an answer. One solution I found (which wasn't a solution) was to add the '@' infront of the variables. It did not work.
Hi I am trying to learn VB 2005 and I am reaching a step in my studies which requires downloading Sql Server 2005. However every time I attempt to download, I receive this error message.
"SQL Server Setup cannot install files to the compressed or encrypted folder: c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server. To continue, make sure that your installation directories are not compressed or encrypted, or specify a different directory, and then run SQL Server Setup again."
I have tried saving it to another folder, this did not help. Somewhere in my search for answers, I came across something that said I needed a strong Sa authentication or password. I did not have a place to store a password in the setup program and when I went to administration password all my fields were blank, so it should not have needed any password. I also tried the link that this error message directed me to and they said they had no further information on this error.
I have exhausted all the leads, a beginner could possibly come across, except you. Please Help!
I installed Micrsoft Server Desktop Engine from the CD I received in my ASP.net book. The installation went fine and then I went to the DOS prompt and did the "setup SAPWD..." and it ran. I restarted my computer and opened ASP Matrix and went to the Data tab and proceed to connect to the server. It gave me an error message it couldn't connect.
So I uninstalled MSDE and made sure the sql2ksp3 folder was gone. So I went ahead and installed the MSDE again from the CD again and then went to DOS to do the setup. It ran through the setup until the very end with 11 seconds remaining and received error message " Setup failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and setup logs for more information. I have tried it several times and it always stops around 11 seconds. I have tried to install the download from microsoft.com instead the CD and that didn't work also. So at this point I am stuck. PLEASE HELP!
I also checked my Registry keys for a file called PendingFileRenameOperations and it wasn't in the registry keys.
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.
Hi, Here is the syntax of the connection string within the web.config file:<connectionStrings><clear /> <add name="MyConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=000.000.000;Initial Catalog=Database Name;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=XXXXXX;Password=XXXXXX;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> The test page has a GridView in it which uses the connectionstring fron the web.config file. I'm attempting to install SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition on a 2nd workstation in our area for development and practice with having this 2nd workstation as a "local" (test) SQL Server box. The install fails with the above mentioned message. (We have a database running in production on SQL Server 2000 and we need a place to simply copy the database and run tests on it)
The target PC is running WInXP Pro-SP3 and has IIS installed, along with Visual Studio 2005 & .Net framework, etc.
I downloaded it (via MSDN license) and accepted the defaults on the install.
