I get the following error message when trying to open the AdventureWordsDB in VBExpress: "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server dut to failure in starting the process for the user instance. View 3 RepliesOk so I'm using the Management Studio Express and was able to log in and get into the database server, but I had to click the "options>>" button and change database I wanted to connect to from <<default>> to my database on the server or else I get the "cannot open user database, login failed" error message.Then I right click my database and it gives me the "Cannot open user database. Login failed" error message, even though I already connected to the database to login during the connect screen. Also I'm able to interact with the database using SQL QUERIES in the Management Studio, like adding new tables with it, but if I right click the database and click "add table" I get that error.What gives? I know I have permission since I was able to log on, and modify the database using SQL queries but if use the GUI I can't use it. I can't even right-click select "properties" without getting that error. The reason I want to use the GUI is because I want to right click and use the backup feature of the database.My guess is that Management Studio continues to point to the default database(which gives me that message) after I already logged in, so I have no idea how to change the default database that management studio points to, to the one I do have permission to use. I have finally have reporting services up and running. A list of all built-in reports have been populated under Monitoring>Reports but when I click on them I get the results shown in the screen shot attached. Below is the error I get when I try to open any report from my IE browser. I have confirmed SSRS is running on my SQL server. I actually had to start it in order to get the list of reports to populate becasue it was stopped. An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Cannot impersonate user for data source 'AutoGen__5C6358F2_4BB6_4a1b_A16E_8D96795D8602_'. (rsErrorIm personatingUser) Log on failed. Ensure the user name and password are correct.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed SQL 2005 including backward compatibility, MSDN libraries and SP2 a new Windows 2003 server (chose mixed mode authentication). Installation was successful and I then installed an off the shelf database with Windows authentication which also installed successfully.
I created a new group in AD, added the database users into the group and gave db-owner rights to the group in SQL as advised by the installation guide. However, when I try to open the database it gives an error message saying "Cannot open database.[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).] SQL server does not exist or access denied". I also tested it adding an individual user (myself) as a user to no avail.
When I set up DSN in ODBC on my computer I can successfully test the connection but can't run the application. The connection is via TCP/IP.
Any suggestions?

I downloaded AdventureWorksDB.msi Microsoft and struggled to install it in my SQL Server Management Studio Express 8 months ago. I forgot the AdventureWorks examples and other stuff were in my C: drive. Recently, I downloaded a new AdventureWork.msi and executed it to install without removing the old stuff from the "Add and Remove" of Control Panel. Now my AdventureWorks database is screwed-up in my termical PC that is linked with Microsoft NT 4 LAN System!!! Please kindly help and tell me how I can revome the scewed-up AdventureWorksDB in my terminal PC.

I have an File System Task that copies a file from one directory ot another. When I hard code the target directory (c:dirfile.txt) it works fine. When I change it to a virtual directory (\serverdirfile.txt) I get a security error:

I'm trying to use an XML Task to do a simple XSLT operation, but it fails with this error message:
[XML Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "There are multiple root elements. Line 5, position 2.".
The source XML file validates fine and I've successfully used it as the XML Source in a data flow task to load some SQL Server tables. It has very few line breaks, so the first 5 lines are pretty long: almost 4000 characters, including 34 start-tags, 19 end-tags, and 2 empty element tags. Here's the very beginning of it:

I tried to remove AdventureWorksDB in the "Add or Remove Programs" of Contol Panel and I got the following errors: (1) AdventureWorksDB Error 1326: Error getting file security: CProgram FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL1MSSQLGetLastError: 5. |OK| and (2) Add or Remove Programs Fatal Error during installation (after I clicked the |OK| button). While we can typically just stop SQL Server Service and restart the services...I have found it is best to restart the machine during non-production times to take care of any 'residual' effects of this error.
The SQL Server 2000 SP4 box with Windows 2003 Standard SP1 is well maintained by our I.T. team and it typically will run 4 or 5 months without a reboot.

Hi, I have developed a website in asp.net 2. I have tester it and it is working fine on my computer but when I have uploaded it to my server I'm getting an error message when the user signup. The error occurs when I'm setting the user role to 'members'.
Error line > Roles.AddUserToRole(user.UserName, "members")
The strage thig is that it is working on my computer but not on the server. My home computer and the server are running the same software versions and the website database is the same as well.
To double check that my code is not generating the error I have lonched 'SQL Query Analizer' and executed the folowing code on my database:

Once again the code is working on my home computer but not on the server. On the server I'm getting the following error:

Trying to connect to remote server croaktoad.simpli.biz
I have SQL 2005 Developer on XP SP2 , I have disabled my windows firewall. I can ping to my server (croaktoad.simpli.biz) and i get no error message. My remote connection using both TCP/IP and named pipes are checkeed. My SQL Server Browser is running as well.
However when I try to connect using Managment Studio or running SQLCMD /Scroaktoad. simpli.biz /E I get the following error message

I have a job that has 3 steps to, periodicly the job errors out on Step 1. Following is the message (from Job History).

I have MSDE SP3 and the only thing that I have changed recently is my Windows login Password. In the
Enterprise Manager the SQL server is registered using mixed authentication.
When I try to open any DTS in Design mode, I get a error dialog with the title 'DTS Design error' and
saying that
"Error occured during creation of a DTS package"
and then when I click on the OKAY button I get the 2nd error dialog saying:
"The selected package cannot be opened. The DTS designer has been closed."
Can someone please help me out here.

I have a SQL Express database on our server that is used for one of our websites when the website tries to write to the database I get the following error: -

I'm catching a primary constraint error in SQL and don't want to return the SQL error message back to the client. Is there any way to stop this. Thankyou

When I try to change the data from a table using Web Matrix, then I get this error message.
The table’s data cannot be edited because the table does not contain modifiable columns.
As I need to edit the data’s, how can I solve this?

I finally installed MSDE and have the icon in my tray at the bottom of the screen.
When I try to connect to a database using the wizard in the web matrix program I get this message:
Unable to connect
SQL Server does not exist of access denied
Connection Open (Connect ())
What might be wrong??

I am trying to set a text field as the primary key for a SQL SERVER Express 2005 Database in Visual Studio. I used the following Command:ALTER TABLE Tablename ADD PRIMARY KEY (fieldname);where you substitute table name and fieldname for the appropriate fields. View 7 Replies View RelatedI am extracting data out of Lotus Notes into an Oracle DB using EM.
I keep getting an error "[Lotus][ODBC Lotus Notes] Data value is not a valid date, time or timestamp" I went ahead and dropped the destination table, and changed all of the "date" columns to varchar's, redefined the transformation, and executed package again, but still get the error. Any ideas?
