Error When Attaching Adventure Works Database
Oct 14, 2006
Hello Everyone,
I am very new to SQL and just completed an install of SQL 2005 Express. After install, I downloaded the Adventure Works database and attempted to attach through both the Object Browser (right-click 'Databases'--->'Attach') and by running the script that is located on the SQL download page where I got the Adventure Works db.
Here's the error that I get:
"Could not find row in sysindexes for database ID 8, object ID 1, Index ID 1. Run DBCC CHECKTABLE on sysindexes."
I have attempted to go through the help files, but unfortunately the above message is too cryptic for me and I have no idea what it's telling me.
Can someone help?
Thanks!!

I was studying the Adventure Works database because I read it contains good examples of best practices.
It has an ID column for each table that is auto-incrementing Primary Key. There is also a row guid which seems redundant since the ID PKs are identity columns that increment automatically and should be unique in a given table.
What is the purpose of the row guid being used in conjunction with the ID which should be unique in a given table?

Despite the csv file existing in the Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsSamplesAdventureWorks Data Warehouse path containing the data for the table, the instawdwdb script doesn't include any reference. Hey All,
I'm new to the whole DB thing so I wanted to start off easy and download SQL Express. That part worked fine so I tried to install the Adventure Works DB to get some practice using the SQL commands. The problem is every time I click on a table in Adventure Works and choose Open Table I get a Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio box that pops up. The error says: Class Not Registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))
(Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlTools.VSIntegration)
Help!! Any ideas out there how to get the Adventure Works DB working? Thx much.

All,
I'm running Windows Xp Pro With SQL 2005 Dev edition with Adventure Works sample db installed. I am the local administrator on my desktop, the services are up and running and I specified local connections only since this is the DEV edition of SQL05.
When I try either one of these connection strings: Data source=(SQLDEV05); initial catalog=AdventureWorks or Data source=(local); initial catalog=AdventureWorks.
I receive this error message:
TITLE: Microsoft Report Designer

A connection cannot be made to the database.
Set and test the connection string.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. I am trying to create a Adventure Works Tabular cube in my developing machine and im having problems deploying the tabular cube (the DW database was firstly attached without problems)
So I'm having problems processing Adventure Works Tabular Cube, the problems are somewhere between SSAS project configuration and running privileges, i think. I'll describe exactly where i am:
- in SSMS 2012, connections, tables and roles and roles are empty, i only have the full name of the database when I try to process i get an error "the table with id of "product category 92583829......", Name of Product Category refereced by the model Cube, does not exist. An error ocurred when loading the model cube, '?c:program filesmicrosoft
sql serverMSAS11.MSSQLSERVEROLAPDataAdventureWorks Tabular model SQL 2012.0.dbModel.21.cub.xml'. (Microsoft AnalysisServices.)"
- in SQL Server configuration Manager, I have
Sql Server (MSSQLSERVER) running with account NT ServiceMSSQLSERVER
Sql Server Analysis Services (MSSQLSERVER) running with account .L.ABCDE , which is my account, i've changed because i've read somewhere that i could have problems with privileges.
(Note: it's strange because SSAS is tabular, i can see a blue rectangle (sort of) in SSMS but in configurator manager seems to be a cube.)
- in SSAS Project i unzip a clean copy of the project and the first error is that BIM file can't be found, it try's to find server TOSHIBA_S50_BTAB, but as i have only tabular SSAS running, i replace for TOSHIBA_S50... And some time ago it worked, now it doesn't even found TOSHIBA_S50_B?!!!!

Hi
I have three questions about several topics.
In this code:
public string ConnectionString
{
get
{
return "Provider=MSOLAP.3;Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=Adventure Works DW";
}
}
What is data source and initial catalog and what does this code do? And if I want to use other database how can change this code? (This code is for data mining viewer client project)
And in this code:
SqlConnection cn = new SqlConnection("Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=AdventureWorks;Integrated Security=True");
SqlCommand cm = new SqlCommand("Select AddressID,AddressLine1 from Person.Address", cn);
SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter();
da.SelectCommand = cm;
DataTable dt = new DataTable();
da.Fill(dt);
this.comboBox1.DisplayMember = "AddressLine1";
this.comboBox1.ValueMember = "AddressID";
this.comboBox1.DataSource = dt;
what is comboBox1.DisplayMember and comboBox1.ValueMember ,and what is difference between those ?
and other question:
in adventure works dw project for data mining predicting ,in forecasting model ,if I want to show the result of this query in the combobox in c# how can I show that?
SELECT
PredictTimeSeries(amount)
From
[Forecasting]
And again in this code ,it has a result which has two culomns ,on of them is for amount and other column is for time ,in sql I can save this result in exsiting table or neew table with wizard,but I want to
Do this work in c#,that€™s mean with a adomdconnection I connect to forecasting model and write this query then in a datagridviwe ,Iwant to see the values of prediction in adventure works dw database.
Other question:
In €œdataminingviwerclient€? project I change this code and you can see it,for this code I have a form that give servername and catlogname in that and then with clcking on a button I want to show the chart of model in a child form ,but I can€™t.
public Form1 form1 = new Form1();
public string m_ServerName;
public string m_CatalogName;
public Form3()

}
this.Cursor = Cursors.Default;

}
catch (System.Exception)
{

this.Cursor = Cursors.Default;
if (conn != null)
conn.Close();
}

{

if (panel.HasChildren)

I was getting following error while creating a database or attaching a database to sql server 2005
"The file <<*.mdf>> is compressed but does not reside in a read-only database or filegroup.."
In this scenario, if you try sp_attach_db procedure, you get following error:
Msg 5118, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
After
little bit of troubleshooting, I found this was happening because of a
folder option (of the folder where database file reside (in case of
attach) or being created (in case of create)).
Go to folder
properties, General Tab, click on Advanced button,check "Compress or
Encrypt attributes" section. If the first option (Compress contents to
save disk space) is checked, you get that error. Uncheck it to fix that
problem.

Hi all,
I'm trying to attach a database file and it's associated database log file to SQL Server. However I am using the 'SQLDataRoot' value from the registry to determine the absolute path to the DB file and DB log file. Like so...
USE [master]
DECLARE @RC int
/* read path to SQL Server Express Data directory from registry */
DECLARE @sql_server_data_dir sysname
EXEC @RC = master..xp_regread N'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE',N'SOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1Setup',N'SQLDataRoot', @sql_server_data_dir OUTPUT
SET @sql_server_data_dir = @sql_server_data_dir + N'Data'
CREATE DATABASE [PROJECT_DB] ON
(FILENAME = '''' + @sql_server_data_dir + 'PROJECT_DB.mdf'''),
(FILENAME = '''' + @sql_server_data_dir + 'PROJECT_DB_log.ldf''') FOR ATTACH;
GO
I have also tried using the sp_attach_db stored procedure as follows
EXEC @RC = dbo.sp_attach_db 'PROJECT_DB',
'''' + @sql_server_data_dir + 'PROJECT_DB.mdf''',
'''' + @sql_server_data_dir + 'PROJECT_DB_log.ldf'''
They both the error:
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 18
Incorrect syntax near '+'.
The quotes in the calls are single quotes not double quotes in case someone queries that. Thank you.

Paul

Greetings, helpful people of the Internet.
I'm learning to use BIDS, and have been going through the exercise in Chapter 19 of the book Professional SQL Server 2005 Integration Services. I'm probably in over my head with this since I've never used any SQL services/software before, but the company I'm interning at wants to build a workflow using SSIS, and for some reason unbeknownst to me, I volunteered to train myself for the task. I'm at a part in the book exercise where I'm editing one of the components of a Data Flow task - an OLE DB Destination. When I try to select the table/view in the editor for this, it gives me the following error:
€œAn attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsgroseMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsCase Study ExerciseCase Study ExerciseCase Study.database failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.€?
When I googled this, most people seemed to be getting it through other SQL software, so I'm not sure if the error has the same cause or not. I know that the file in the above error message already exists, but I don't understand why the task editor won't just let me select a database that already exists so I can complete the component. Can anyone explain this to me?

I am having trouble installing the sample Adventure database. I went to the following location:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=E719ECF7-9F46-4312-AF89-6AD8702E4E6E&displaylang=en
to download AdventureWorksDB.msi. Once I save that to my local machine I run the install and it completes with no errors. Unfortunately, I can't see any of the data in SQL Server Management Studio Express. I'm new to SQL Server Express so maybe its me, but I get the feeling that it was never added to the database. I'm still looking for SQLServerExpressSamplesOverview.htm to see if I am missing a step but I can't find it anywhere.
The install seems to have extracted database files but if I need to run some scripts by hand to create the database I don't know which order to run them in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Attemping to reattach a recovered .mdf and associated .ldf from a crashed disk drive and I am getting the error below. I attempted to create a new db, stop the service, replace the new data files with the recovered db files and restarted the SQL service so that I could run a dbcc checkdb while the db was in suspect mode, however was unable to do this. This error leads me to belive that the log file needs to be rebuild, but that the mdf files could be a decent shape. Any help would be apprecaited. Thanks!

I have a VBExpress 2008 application that uses LINQ to SQL to manipulate data in an SQLExpress 2005 database.
I successfully instatiate a DataContext object and examine its metadata through its .Mapping methods and properties. But when I attempt to set the DataSource for a BindingSource control to one of the tables, I get a run-time error.
Specifically:
Dim dc As New DiabetesData(My.Settings.DiabetesData_dbPath)
For Each mt As MetaTable In dc.Mapping.GetTables
...(examine some properties)...
Next
frmEZView.bsPrimary.DataSource = dc.GetTable(Of BGTest)()
generates the error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was unhandled
Class=14
ErrorCode=-2146232060
LineNumber=65536
Message="An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file SbearMedicalDiabetesDiabetesData2.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
Number=15350
Procedure=""
Server="\.pipe8280AA0D-38A6-41 sqlquery"
Source=".Net SqlClient Data Provider"
State=1
From the Immediate window: ?My.Settings.DiabetesData_dbPath
"SbearMedicalDiabetesDiabetesData2.mdf"
bsPrimary is a BindingSource on a form named frmEZView.
Public Class DiabetesData includes a property Public BGTests As Table(Of BGTest) and a subsequent definition of BGTest.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,

The situation :
I am making mass changes to my program and database.
The goal is to not make changes to the database at the customer sites, but to clone their current database, and work with that one.
The solution:
I wrote code and queries to detach the database, copy it to another directory on the same computer with a different name, then attach it with the new name.
The process is:
run : sp_detach_db "' + aDatabase + '", ''false'';' (aDatabase is the original database name)
Then, in code, delete the original .ldf file, and copy the database.mdf file to new directory with new name.
then run (for both the new and the original databases):
Create Database "' + aDatabase + '" on
(NAME = ''' + aDatabase + ''', FILENAME = ''' + FormatFilePath(aPath) + aDatabase + '.mdf''
For Attach
This works, up to a point.
The problem :
When I inspect the properties of the newly attached database, with the new name and new directory, the logical name of the database is still the original name.
I TRIED running this query :
sp_attach_single_file_db @dbName= "' + aDatabase + '",'
@physname= ''' + FormatFilePath(aPath) + aDatabase + '.mdf'
but it returns(even though I have deleted the .ldf files for the original dataset) :
Could not open new database 'Test62'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted.
Cannot create file 'E:Data6Test62Test62_log.LDF' because it already exists. Change the file path or the file name, and retry the operation.
File activation failure. The physical file name "E:Data6TestTest_log.LDF" may be incorrect.
(original database name = data6 est est, new database name is data6 est62 est62)
Is there a way to do this? Or do I just need to give it up?

We've tried attaching the mdf files given to us by some customers using the script they've provided, too.
I created the database with the corresponding names, and tried to run their script. However, I get the message "The media family on device 'D:DatabaseDVVAD01.mdf' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family."
What could possibly have gone wrong? Is it also possible that the file was not properly detached, or what?
