Error Accessing Report From Anywhere But Local Server
Dec 2, 2005
I am trying to view a report that i created and I get an error everywhere but on the server, where it runs fine. the report uses the sharepoint lists.asmx web service as a datasource, and I'm using Windows Authentication on the datasource. I'm logged on to my desktop with the same account i use on the server, but on the server it runs and on the desktop i get the following error:

I have created and deployed my first report. It renders fine for me and the other database admin. When others attempt to view it, we get the error
Query execution failed for data set 'periods'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand), For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
Initially, We created a local group on the machine that hosts both the database and webserver and added the individuals to that group. Then, within SRS Report manager, we added that group to the Browswer role of the report.
The error message was slightly different, in that it couldn't even open the Datasource.
We then added an individual to the database as dbreader, and got the above message. It apprently is starting to render, and when it encounters the first query (dataset "periods", which populates a drop down list for a parameter), it chokes. BTW, the Periods dataset executes a stored procedure dbo.Period_List that has no parameters. It returns a list of reporting periods.
I could not figure out how to "enable remote errors" or find an error log on the server. The C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesLogFiles Log files did not appear to record any errors.
Please advise!

Hello everyone,
I have the sql connection string configured in my web application as
data source=(local); provider=sqloledb.1; user id=<<user id>>; password=<<password>>; database=<<database>>
My understanding is that when (local) is used, the connection method will fall to shared memory / named pipes. I have names pipes and TCP/IP enabled in the configuration manager.
My machine is also running Comodo Firewall .
Now this is what is happening. When I try to access the asp.net application, I get a component exception in comodo firewall that indicates w3wp.exe is trying to access the sql server via the machine's IP over port 1433. This happens when I try to load the application in the browser.
What I dont understand is that when (local) is configured, it should only access thru shared memory / named pipes. Why is it trying to connect thru TCP port. Is this because I have the sql username and password? My SQL server is configured for mixed mode authentication.
Thanks
RK

Hey Forum Community
I seem to have a problem creating a model for my AS cube through Report Manager.
I have set up the data source as follows:
Name: Gates Aust Business Intelligence
Connection Type: MS SQL Server Analysis Services
Connection String: Data Source=MANT4003;initial catalog="GAPL Sales Analysis"
Connect Using: Windows Interegrated Security
This part works, but when i go to generate the model, i get the following error in the browser:

I have tried searching the forums and cannot find anything really helpful. I have had one cube setup and a model generated before and all was workin, but i had to delete it and i recreated the SSAS cube from scratch.
My user account has admin rights on the cube and also on the servers.
Server is Windows 2003
Client is Windows XP.
Any one got anythoughts on this or how i can determine what is wrong.?
Many Thanks

The current way I have my asp.net 2.0 web app running reports is, based on an
interface the user selects the criteria for a report. The .RDL file is created
dynamically based on the user's selections.
I then need to SOAP the dynamically created report to the report server and
then the report runs fine.
BUT it requires Adminstrative rights to do this. Can this be accomplished
without giving the local machine admin rights. I am sorry if this question
has been answered before but i have not been up here in a while.

We receive the error below when attempting to access our newly installed reporting service under Windows Vista. We can't seem to fix to this error. While we can view reports deployed to my report server at http://ServerName/ReportServer, we cannot access the Report Manager that comes with SSRS via http://ServerName/Reports. When we do we get the error below.
According to the error it cannot find the 'C:WindowsassemblyGAC_32System.EnterpriseServices2.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3aSystem.EnterpriseServices.dll. The missing dll is located in our C:$WINDOWS.~QDATAWindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727System.EnterpriseServices.dll. We do not have a GAC_32 directory in our Assembly directory and we cannot manually add any thing to the Assembly folder.
Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this error?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I get this error for all but one of the reports in a solution when trying to preview the reports. The query behind the reports work, and the published side of things works fine. I blew away all the rdl.data files in the directory (found that tip in another forum) -- the working report rebuilds the rdl.data file, but the rest continue to fail with the same error. Everything worked fine before the weekend, and I'm the only one who works on the application. The extracted SQL tables which are input to the reports have had data added to them, but I've not requested reporting that would have hit the new data (except for the one report that still works). Any ideas would be greatly welcome. Thanks in advance.

Good Afternoon,
I created a 2005 SSRS SP2 report (.rdl) last week. Today I installed the SQL 2005 SP2 tools on three of my co-workers' computers. Two can access the Solution/Project/Report in BIDS without issue. The last can open the Solution/Project/Report and can run see both the data and layout tabs. When she attempts to click the preview tab, however, the following error occurs:
An error occurred during local report processing.
The definition of the report '/ReportName' is invalid.
An unexpected error occurred in the Report Processing.
Cannot execute a program. The command being executed was "C:WINNTMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727vbc.exe" /noconfig @"C:Documents and SettingsuserLocal SettingsTempwnlnvzev.cmdline".
The portion in blue changes each time we attempt to access the preview pane. I have removed the .data file suggested in other threads, but that did not work. I also ran iisreset.exe as posted in another thread and that did not work either.
All versions of BIDS/SQL were installed from the same media in the same manner. Please help.

My report worked fine for a while, but suddenly I started getting the following errors for Preview:
An error occurred during local report processing.
An error has occurred during report processing.
Index was outside the bounds of the array.
I restarted VS, then rebooted my machine and the problem persists. Everything including the report posted to the server works fine. It is just the Preview of this report does not work any more. Preview of other reports work fine.
Any tip to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I'm in the process of designing a system which will have a central internet based SQL Server database, and one or more clients running SQL CE.
If there is more than one client machine running the same software, is it possible to have all these clients use a central SQL CE db on one of the clients? In other words can other machines access a SQL CE running on say a "master" machine? These machines my be in a workgroup or on a domain by the way.
I know I could use a SQL Express db on the master machine, but I'm keen to use SQL CE because of the Sync services dlls that came with VS 2008 (which I believe only work in CE).
Thanks,
Russ

Hi,
I am receiving the following error when I run the report builder query. I am able to successfully select the dimensions and measures that I am intrested in but when I run the report I get the error message.
The 'PerspectiveID' custom property for the 'query' perspective is either not set or is not set to the string data type.

I am testing this against both Adventureworks standard and enterprise cubes. Additionality I saw a post in this forum

that seemed related but I am using reporting services in sharepoint integrated mode so I am having a hard time trying to troubleshoot this.

Hi,
Is it possible to turn a server report created using report builder (with all the smdl and dsv stuff) into a report
that is viewable using the Reportviewer ASP.Net control in _local_ mode? I need this because I'm trying to replace
the datasource used in creating the report by another one for viewing the report.
Thanks in advance,

I got rid of the .rdl.data files, which apparently has been a successful fix for this problem in the past. Everything worked fine Thursday when I left (I was off Friday - Saturday), but today I get this error for all but one of the reports in the solution when I try to preview the report. BTW, the published stuff works fine. Thanks in advance for any help.

I am trying to create a sproc creates several tables, views, and sprocs across several similar DBs (please...no lectures on structure...I didn't create this multi-DB setup) .
My sproc loops through the DBs and runs a script on each DB. I am running the Sproc from a client computer and cannot easily access the c drive on the SQL server.
The only way I have figured out how do do this is to run the following
xp_cmdshell 'isql d- %@mydb% i- c:script.sql'
inside a loop.
My problem is that xp_cmdshell refers to the server c drive instead of my local c drive, where my script file is.
Is there a way to refer to my local c drive? Also any thoughts on a better way to approach this (other than running the entire script inline in the sproc since I don't want to have to run quotes around each batch of the script).
Thanks

I am having a problem accessing my local A: drive, using the bulk insert command. The actual sql server pc thinks I am accessing its sql server's A: and not my local a: drive. I am trying to read in a simple CSV delimited ascii file into a sql table. Wow what a nightmare just to read a simple ascii file into a table. Unfortunatley I am writing a program in VB.net for an operator to import ascii data from floppy diskettes.
I am using this command below: The command works fine but I have to go to the actual server and put the floppy disk in over there. I want the operator to be able to use there own A: or any location drive for that matter. Sql server over the network is not allowing us to access any local drive to import this data. I get an error 21 because the sql server does not have the floppy in its drive. It seems like some kind of security issue, but I am not sure. Any information would be most appreciated in this matter. Thanks in advance.
Sarah Diane Reid
sample code below:
BULK INSERT Master.dbo.imVBMbAddress
FROM 'a:mbAddressPipes.txt'
WITH (FORMATFILE = 'a:importdatambaddress.fmt',

Hi,
We are using Microsoft Reporting Service 2005 to develop reports and we are accessing these reports through a J2EE application.
The front end is implemented using Tapestry and we using JBoss as our applicaiton server.
We are using Shared Data Sources for the reports and we set its data source type to SQL Server Analysis Services.
In the credential tab, by default "Use Windows authentication" is selected. All other options are disabled.
When I access my reportserver through my web application, I am always prompted for a windows login and password.
How can I avoid being shown the windows login prompt, since our web application will be used by several users and we do not want the users to type in a username/password everytime they want to access our reports.
Please suggest me solution for this scenario.
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I recently read the following book:
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Server-2005-Reporting-Services/dp/0072262397/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-5275187-2065567?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1194662002&sr=8-1
It was excellent.
I was hoping to find an example of the following:
My company has a desktop application with a local database (sql server 2k express) I would like to be able to have local reports and if the user likes the report they are viewing, the user could "publish" that report to the server. Since the database is local, the report data source cannot point to that database. So, it would publish the report AND the data in it.
For this use case, what is the recommended strategy of moving the data with the report? Would i create a small xml file and then dynamically build a datasource that points to that xml? Any best practices advice?
If i could find an example would be fantastic.
Thanks for your help,
Dan

I have a pretty complicated report (lots of subreports, tables, etc) that can be well over a few hundred pages long. I can generate the report just fine, but I cannot seem to export it to anything other than an html archive. I need to export to PDF. Every time I try to export it get an error that says:
An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details.
I don't get any more information than that. Is there a way that I can figure out what the actual error is, or any other way I can go about troubleshooting this? Thanks.

Hi,
I am trying to access the View through linked server connection .The linked server connection is between two sql server 2005.
The problem is I am not able to access 2 columns of nvarchar datatype of length 255, from the view through select statement.
I do a SELECT col1,col2 from VIEW,then getting the following error .
Cannot get the data of the row from the OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "SRVXPR". Could not convert the data value due to reasons other than sign mismatch or overflow.
Then I tried with
Select cast(Col1 as nvarchar) ,
cast(col2 as nvarchar) from VIEW,
I am able to get the values.
The collation type is same for all underlying tables and also for the servers.
Is there any restrictions in handling nvarchar data thru linked server/ anyother size limitation.
I don't want to use cast as this will lead to performance problem.
Thanks,
Philip

Hi!
I’m having the fallowing error when I try to open/access a linked server
Error:
Error 7302: Could not create an instance of OLE DB provider 'MSOLAP.2'.
OLE DB error trace [Non-interface error: CoCreate of DSO for MSOLAP.2 returned 0x80004005].
I have already tried to create the server using SEM and also with SQL syntax in ISQLW.
Code:
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
@server='LINKED_OLAP',
@srvproduct='',
@provider='MSOLAP.2',
@datasrc='MyServerName.MyDomain’,
@catalog='MyDataBase'
I’m allowed to create the linked server but I can’t use it.
Information:
OS: Windows 2003EE
SQL: MSSQL 2000 + SP3a
MDAC: MDAC2.8 rtm
Thanks,
Paulo

I am not sure if this is possible or not, but I have to at least ask.
I have a SQL Reporting Services project that has a QA server version and then a Production server version. So when requested changes are made to the reports, I make the changes in Visual Studio and then push to QA. After the changes have been tested and approved, I then push the changes to the Production server.
I have come across an issue, where requested changes were made in Visual Studio (a lot of changes), and pushed to QA. The users now have changed their minds and they want instead to stay with what is in production. So, I am looking for a way to recover the report file on the production web server, bring it back into my visual studio project to replace the report that I had changed.
Is this possible, or will I have to start over and step one and reverse the changes in Visual Studio.
Let me know.
Thank you,
T.J.

I have a report that accessed a Visual FoxPro 6.0 database via ODBC. Since I upgraded to Visual FoxPro 9.0, now I am getting the error:
Query Server Error
DMS-E-RBI_TABLE The table or view <table name> was not found in the dictionary
I've verified that the right path is setup and I've tried installing about every driver and none of them are working. I created a new database in 9.0 and the I can access it fine. Also, there are old tables that are accessible in the same path, just not the ones I need. Any ideas would be helpful..

Hi,
I've been trying to fix this error for two days! and I really need the advice of the experts please!
Computer XP Professional Service Pack2, SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 (both Standard Edition)
ConnectionString:
<connectionStrings>
<add name="MyConnectionDB" connectionString="Data Source=(MyServerSqlServer2005);Initial Catalog=MyDB;User ID=sa;Password=PasswordforSA" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
C# code
string myConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyConnectionDB"].ConnectionString;
SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection(myConnectionString);
myConnection.Open();
Here I get the error: {"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"}
What I checked so far:
ServerName and Instance Name OK!
Database, Username and password OK!
SQL Server 2005 Surface Are Configuration - Remote connections using both TCP/IP and Pipe Names OK!
SQL Configuration Manager - Protocolos Enabled (TCP/IP, Pipes, shared) OK!
SQL Server Browse running and active OK!
Am I missing something? I never had this problem with SQL Server 2000 and Visual Studio 2003.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion you can give me.
