There Is Already An Object Named 'IX_&<table&>' In The Database

Aug 3, 2007

Hi. I tried the following alter statement:

Code:

alter table userphotos
add constraint IX_userid unique (userid)

and got the following error:

Quote:
Msg 2714, Level 16, State 4, Line 3
There is already an object named 'IX_userid' in the database.
Msg 1750, Level 16, State 0, Line 3
Could not create constraint. See previous errors.

I previously created the same constraint in a different table (using IX_userid). Is it not allowed to use the same naming
scheme for constraints in different tables? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

There Is Already An Object Named

Aug 22, 2007

Don't believe you can not do this

if @v = 1

begin

select * into #temp1 from dbo.Table11 where col1 = @v

end

else

if @v = 2 begin

begin

select * into #temp1 from dbo.Table11 where col1 = @v

end

Error : There is already an object named '#temp1' in the database.

Compiler should know that at any time only on condition is going to run.

Error An Attempt To Attach An Auto-named Database For File

Aug 1, 2006

Hi,

I've just created my first projects using Visual Studio 2005 and SQL 2005 Express. This is the basic;

One windows service is created that updates a database. The windows service running under "Local system" account
One windows application where a user can see data (and change) from the database
A common business and dataaccess layer/project is used by both applications
Connection string to the database: "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|DataDatabase.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=60;User Instance=True"

Both application is located in the same directory. When the computer starts the windows service starts and works perfectly. But when a user starts the windows applications the following error is reported "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file..A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share".

It look likes that only one of my application can connect to the database at a time!

Is it possible to use separate applications to connect to the same database file?

/Robert

Error An Attempt To Attach An Auto-named Database For File

Jan 17, 2007

Hello,

I have seen some solutions of which I tried on this form for the error I am receiving, but I still cannot get the issue resolved.

Here is my case:

I developed an app using SQL Express as the local data source. I published it to my server using the Once Click install feature. When I look in my project viewer, under settings, My db connection strings are listed as follows: Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|TAP_Master.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True

From another computer, I navigate to the publish site, install and run the application with no problems. I have on another computer, the same app with an updated version number that I wish to publish, however the difference is is that this published version does not include the database as I do not want the end user to overwrite any existing data that they may have from the previous version.

I publish the updated version, install it but when the app runs, I receive the message, "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file".

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Static Snapshot Fails: Already An Object Named 'MSmerge_default_constraint_for_rowguidcol_of...

Mar 2, 2007

Hi All,
I am trying to republish a database but when the static snapshot runs it fails with the error msg below.

I am using windows 2003 and sql server 2005 standard edition.
I have a database named MDS that has a publication named "LoanProducts".
I have another database named MDSNZUAT on the same server. This database subscribes to the LoanProducts Publication.

Replication succeeds from MDS->MDSNZUAT.

Once replication is complete I would like to create two publications (LoanProducts and UserData) from MDSNZUAT.
I can successfully republish MDSNZUAT LoanProducts, but when i try to generate the static snapshot for UserData i receive the error below.
2007-03-02 05:36:28.64 [0%] Preparing table '[dbo].[LoanFeeType]' for merge replication
2007-03-02 05:36:28.65 [0%] The replication agent had encountered an exception.

2007-03-02 05:36:28.65 Exception Type: Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication.ReplicationAgentSqlException
2007-03-02 05:36:28.65 Exception Message: There is already an object named 'MSmerge_default_constraint_for_rowguidcol_of_1282103608' in the database.

2007-03-02 05:36:28.65 Message Code: 2714

If i do not replicate MDSNZUAT to MDS first (i.e. MDSNZUAT is a completely stand alone database with no prior subscriptions),
I can successfully create static snapshots for both publications (LoanProducts and Userdata)
Has anybody had any similar experiences with SQL 2005? This has worked previously with SQL 2000.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

BIDS Noob Requesting Help With Error Attaching Auto-named Database

Apr 25, 2008

Greetings, helpful people of the Internet.

I'm learning to use BIDS, and have been going through the exercise in Chapter 19 of the book Professional SQL Server 2005 Integration Services. I'm probably in over my head with this since I've never used any SQL services/software before, but the company I'm interning at wants to build a workflow using SSIS, and for some reason unbeknownst to me, I volunteered to train myself for the task. I'm at a part in the book exercise where I'm editing one of the components of a Data Flow task - an OLE DB Destination. When I try to select the table/view in the editor for this, it gives me the following error:

€œAn attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsgroseMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsCase Study ExerciseCase Study ExerciseCase Study.database failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.€?

When I googled this, most people seemed to be getting it through other SQL software, so I'm not sure if the error has the same cause or not. I know that the file in the above error message already exists, but I don't understand why the task editor won't just let me select a database that already exists so I can complete the component. Can anyone explain this to me?

Is There A Way To Drop All The Columns Called Some_name In All The Tables At The Same Time

May 15, 2008

Hi,

In my DB, many of my tables have a column named upsize_ts I have already been told that it is not linked in any way with the data in the DB. The data type of these columns is timestamp and every record in those colum is this : "<Binary>"
Now maybe it's because the whole DB comes from an export from an Access DB, or maybe not. I just had a few questions:

1/ Does anyone know why that column got generated and what it means? (optional)
2/Now the real question: is there any statement allowing me to "mass-drop" all those columns named "upsize_ts" in every table of my DB at the same time? Or at least any way not to do it one drop table at a time?

Thanks.

Connecting To Database - Object Reference Not Set Error Message

Feb 11, 2005

I've got code that on my own machine (visual studio .net 2003 and iis and sql server all exist on this box) works great. I display my test page, which loads a dropdownlist on page_load. This works great on my own machine.

When I move the code to our dev environment. Web server and database servers on separate boxes. I get the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when i try to open the connection to the database. I thought it had to do with permissions and I check all through sql server and everything looks great. I then thought it was the connection string. I still haven't ruled this out, but I wrote a quick vbscript app to attach to the database and try to pull a record. The vbscript worked fine. So, the code works fine on my computer, but not on the web server. The connection does work with vbscript, but through my asp.net web app I get the "object reference" error.

All code below...

ASP.NET webpage:
private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{

if( !IsPostBack )
{
// Create a command object for the query
string mySelectQuery = "select id from vw_abcd order by ID";

SqlCommand myCommand = new SqlCommand(mySelectQuery,sqlConnection1);
sqlConnection1.Open();

DropDownList1.DataSource = myCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.CloseConnection);
DropDownList1.DataBind();
sqlConnection1.Close();

RangeValidator1.MinimumValue = "1";
RangeValidator1.MaximumValue = DropDownList1.Items.Count.ToString();
}
}

Connection string on my machine:
workstation id=wXXXXXX01;packet size=4096;user id=testuser;password=testpass;integrated security=SSPI;data source=wXXXXXX01;persist security info=False;initial catalog=TestDB"/>

Connection string on web server:
network library=DBMSSOCN;data source=xxx.xx.xxx.xxxinstance1;user id=testuser;password=testpass;initial catalog=TestDB

vbscript:
Dim connConnection, rstresultset
strConnectionString = "driver={Sql Server};server=xxx.xx.xxx.xxxinstance1;user id=testuser;password=testpass;database=TestDB"

Set connConnection = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")

connConnection.Open strConnectionString
Set rstresultset = createobject("ADODB.Recordset")

rstresultset.ActiveConnection = connConnection

rstresultset.Open "select id, comment from testtable", connConnection

msgbox rstresultset(0)
msgbox rstresultset.Fields(0).Value

Error message and stack trace:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

at System.Data.SqlClient.ConnectionPool.GetConnection(Boolean& isInTransaction)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionPoolManager.GetPooledConnection(SqlConnectionString options, Boolean& isInTransaction)

Any ideas what's going on?????

ERROR 229: SELECT Permission Denied On Object 'sysobjects', Database ....

Sep 27, 2007

Hi,

I granted all the rights on the database to the user (db_owner, public, db_datawriter, etc...) However, I didn't grant the "System Administrators" role. I also specifically granted the select on those tables (sysobjects and sysindexes) for the user and checked through ‘sp_helprotect sysobjects’ command whether there are no specific revokes for for that user.

However, the user is still getting the below error while trying to expand the "Tables" view in the Enterprise Manager.

ERROR 229: SELECT permission denied on object 'sysobjects', database 'My_test', owner 'dbo', SELECT permission denied on object 'sysindexes', database 'My_test', owner 'dbo'.

Also, the user claims that he can’t seem to do anything with the database, he can’t view any objects, and, when he goes to Query Analyzer, if he tries to run a SELECT query on a table (that he know that this table exists), he gets this error:

SELECT permission denied on object 'tblBillingTrans', database 'My_Test', owner 'dbo'.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Alla

' The Definition Of Object [object Name] Has Changed Since It Was Compiled' Error When Altering A Trigger In 2005

Aug 17, 2007

Hello All

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this question to, so if it's not, please accept my apologies.

I'm working in SQL Server 2005 with a database that was migrated to 2005 from SQL Server 2000. I have to alter a trigger on a table for some functionality changes, and when I modify the trigger and then access it through the application the database is working with, I receive this error:

There was a error in the [stored procedure name] procedure. Error Number: -2147217900 Error Description: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The definition of object '[trigger name]' has changed since it was compiled.

[stored procedure name] and [trigger name] are where the actual names appear in the message.

I've tried running sp_recompile on the trigger, stored procedure, and table that are associated with this, and nothing works. I have dropped the trigger, which allows the save process to complete (but doesn't perform the required functionality, of course), and then re-created the trigger, but the error message still comes up. The compatibility level for the database is SQL Server 2000 (80) (as it was migrated from SQL Server 2000 as I mentioned above).

Has anyone seen this, and if so, how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

When Using A Sqldataadapter In VS 2005 I Get The Following Error At Runtime. Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object

Dec 21, 2006

Help! I have posted this before and I had hoped that the VS2005 SP1 would help my problem. It didn't. My code is shown below. I have dropped a sqlconnection, sqldataadapter and a strongly-typed dataset from the toolbox onto the component designer for my page and written my code. It compiles without any errors but at runtine I receive the system error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." The error occurs at the first line where the sqldataadapter is mentioned. I have shufflled the code and the error still occurs at first mention of the dataadapter. I have set parameters to a simple string such as "myemail." It hasn't helped. Predict Query Gives 'DMPluginWrapper; Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object' Error

Mar 17, 2008

Hi,

I am trying to develop a custom algorithm. I have implemented and tested training methods, however I fail at prediction phase. When I try to run a prediction query against a model created with my algorithm I get:

Executing the query ...
Obtained object of type: Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdDataReader
COM error: COM error: DMPluginWrapper; Object reference not set to an instance of an object..
Execution complete

I know this is not very descriptive, but I have seen that algorith doesn't even executes my Predict(..) function (I can test this by logging to a text file)
So the problem is this, when I run prediction query DMPluginWrapper gives exception -I think- even before calling my custom method.

As I said it is not a very descriptive message but I hope I have hit a general issue.

Thanks...

VS 2005 Error 'Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object' With Integration Services Project Create Failure

May 22, 2008

Just installed VS 2005 & SQLServer 2005 clients on my workstation. When trying to create a new Integration Services Project and start work in the designer receive the MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' dialog box with message "Creating project 'Integration Services project1'...project creation failed."

Previously I had SQLServer 2000 client with the little VS tool that came with it installed. Uninstalled these prior to installing the 2005 tools (VS and SQLServer).

I'm not finding any information on corrective action for this error.

Any one have this problem and found the solution?

Reporting Services Error - Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object

Jan 14, 2008

Hello -

For the life of me I cannot figure out why i'm getting the "Object Refence Not Set To an Instance of An Object" error after I try and create a Report Services project in Business Intelligence Studio. I've followed all of the steps in similar posts such as checking the ReportServer/web.config file but everything checks out.

Does anyone have any other ideas as to how I can get rid of this annoying error and start creating some reports?

Thanks!!!

Reporting Services Configuration And Database Setup Error Invalid Object Name 'sysdatabases'

Sep 14, 2007

Yesterday, literally I was banging my head to the wall, kept getting this error:

A Connection could not be established with the information provided. Hit OK to change your connection settings.
Invalid object name 'sysdatabases'.

I uninstall and re-install back the reporting services couple times and I kept getting the same error.
I have 2 instances of SQL Server on the same Server:

SQL Server 2000

SQL Server 2005
The 2 instances work side by side, I was wondering if this causing the error.

Can anyone help out with this problem?

Thanks - John

Object Validation To Avoid Invalid Object Name Error

Sep 27, 2007

There are certain errors that does not come during compilation and it shows during execution because of late-binding concept implemented in SQL Server from 7.0 version.

The problem is when Tables are not there, SPs are created. And there is no option where we can set like 'Validate object resolution during compilation"

There are lot of SPs that are in invalid status because the tables are really not there and SP needs to be modified to reflect the correct table name. In Oracle, if I have to find the list of objects that are in invalid state (because of object resolution problems), it was possible. How do I do it in SQL?

I need a listing of all objects in my database that is in invalid state. Searched in NET but there seems to be no supporting tool also that lists invalid objects.

Pl let me know whether there exists a way by which I can get to know the invalid object lists in my SQL 2005 database

Irregular Error In SQL 2000-Named Pipes Provider, Error: 40, Could Not Establish Connection

Apr 10, 2007

I have a web application developed in VS.NET 2005 [using C# as code behind]; and it uses SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition as backend.
The application runs fine, though it gives an error on IRREGULAR intervals on SQL data requests.
Error Details:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

My problem is this:
1) Why does it show an error of SQL 2005, while I use SQL 2000. SQL 2005 is not even installed on the server, though VS.NET 2005 is installed.
2) The error comes only at irregular intervals. Users are able to login properly otherwise.
3) Application starts working again if we do either of the following:  (a) Restart IIS   (b) Restart application pool   (c) Restart server.
4) Named pipes and TCP/IP are added to the "Network Configuration" of the SQL server 2000.
5) Error does not come on any specific page; or any specific code; or at any specific time.
6) We do not have any background service or any other activity happening on the server; and the server hosts only this application, within a single virtual root.

Any thoughts on why is this happening, and how to resolve this?

Error 5 (Access Denied) And Named Pipes Provider Error 40

Sep 21, 2006

Hello there,

I recently started having trouble with my local SQL Server 8.0 database server. When I try to start it with Enterprise Manager I get the following error:

An error 5 - (Access is denied) occured while performing this service operation on the MSSQLServer service.

Nothing showed up in the SQL Server error logs. If I try to connect to it using the SQL Server Management Studio that came with SQL Server 2005 I get the following (slightly more informative) message:

Cannot connect to (local) ... (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)

I'm not sure which log to look at in the MSSQL folders: MSSQL.1, MSSQL.2 or MSSQL.3.

Furthermore, if I manually start the MSSQLSERVER service, then I can connect just fine with the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio but still get the weird error message with SQL Server 8.0 Enterprise Manager.

Any ideas?

Thanks
