Error Copying Data To A Remote Sql Server 2005 Database.

When copying data to a remote SQL2K5 destination from a SQL2K5 source database, both using mixed sql server security mode, my job generates the following error:
[Transfer SQL Server Objects Task] Error: Execution failed with the following error: "Cannot apply value null to property Login: Value cannot be null..".
This occurs after the destination database tables have been truncated and replacement data from the source would begin to copy.
The same process can be successfully completed from the Management studio with a simple data export process. However, when I run the saved package again from the BI interface, I get this error.
My search engine searches have yielded numerous hits of others having the same problem with one microsoft rep indicating it was a bug and would be resolved in sp1. I am working with sp1. Oddly, there is only mention of this in the forums. No KB article from MS addresses the problem and I do not see it addressed elsewhere at sqlservercentral.
It appears that others have switched to Integrated Security and resolved the problem. However, I do not have that option with a remotely hosted database.
Does anyone have any information concerning this problem?
This problem may appear trivial to you guys but is troubling me since quite some time now! The problem is that I created a website using express studio happily and it worked flawlessly on the local host. Now I want to move it to a remote server and my host created a database name ASPNETDB for me on the server. The problem is that that ASPNETDB database is virtually empty and I want to copy all my tables,stored procedures etc etc(complete database) to the remote ASPNETDB database. How can I do that? In the management studio express edition there is no command available to copy paste all contents of the database to another database. Please help I am quite confused!

The attach/detach route also fails with the same message. Although I create a SSIS proxy, the Copy Database Wzard shows only the SQLServerAgent as the proxy. Why? ---------- Does copy database wizard use OLEDB for the transfer? Does it mean you must have both Source and Destinaton with windows authentication?
I have right now sql server 2000 instance installed on a server (serverone) which is accessed on all nodes through an ODBC connection.
Now we have upgraded our server to windows server 2005 which will be on other machine servertwo. I have right now installed sql server 2005 in servertwo. Wish to copy the database from serverone to servertwo. Once it is copied and everything is working fine. I want to uninstal sql server 2000 from serverone.
What is the best way to do this? I am trying different things like tried running code Advisor on serverone which is not recognising the sql server 2005 instance of servertwo. It's giving message as since the sql server is installed on default settings it can't be accessed remotely. I see that SQL server 2000 database is accessible on all nodes including servertwo. Why is it that servertwo sql server is no where accessible?
An SSIS package to transfer data from a DB instance on SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2000 is extremely slow. The package uses an OLEDB Source to OLEDB Destination for data transfer which is basically one table from sql server 2005 to sql server 2000. The job takes 5 minutes to transfer about 400 rows at night when there is very little activity on the server. During the day the job almost always times out.
On SQL Server 200 instances the job ran in minutes in the old 2000 package.
Is there an alternative to this. Tranfer Objects task does not work as there is apparently a defect according to Microsoft. Please let me know if there is any other option other than using a Execute 2000 package task or using an ActiveX Script to read records from one source and to insert them into the destination source, which I am not certain how long it might take and how viable will that be?
Hi I have an sqlserver setup locally to chew thru pricefiles from our suppliers. The pricefiles comes in various formats mostly txt-files and are inserted via bulk-inserts and separeted by GO-statements, in the end I end up with a table containing unique partnumbers, the average price for the part, and number in stock. What i would like is to have a transact- statement in the end of all thoose sql-statements that copies the final table to a remote sqlserver that contains the DB used on my website. How do i connect to a remote server thru a sql-statement? is it possible? If i just get the connection part explained, i can figure out the rest by myself. Thanks /Jonas

Fellow Devs, I have an instance of SQL Server Express 2005 running on another box and I have Remote Connections enabled over both TCP/IP and Named Pipes, but on my other box I keep getting the error that the server does not accept Remote Connections. Any ideas why this might be happening? Is there some other configuration?

Help! My web-application worked fine last week. I have made some enhancements and it still works fine when I test in locally in VS 2005 and from IIS when I allow unauthenticated users (by commenting out "<deny users="?"/>" in my web.config. However, with not allowing unauthenticated users, I get redirected to a login application (which also worked last week), where I supply one of several user names and passwords and it is supposed to redirect me back to my default.aspx page. Only, now it is taking the authentication parameters from the login screen but is not redirecting me back to my app's page and instead is putting up this Error 26 that states SQL Server 2005 does not allow remote connections. The included stack trace has no information about what server it seems to be trying to connect with, but the strangest thing about it is I/we are not using SQL Server 2005 yet (still a future upgrade not too far off). The application database, the authentication aspnetdb database, and the Session aspstate database are all on the same SQL Server 2000 managed server. And, these were all working last week (and are all accessible). I have not changed any connection strings and as I said, it works fine without the loging in part both locally and from IIS. It is only when using the Login in application, which is working with other apps and the developer insists the problem has to in my application (after all the first line of the error message states: Server Error in '/deployment1' Application, which is my app!) I am lost in finding the culprit, can someone please give me some ideas?
My problem relates to backing up my MS SQL 2005 database which is sitting on a shared server at a hosting company.
OVERVIEW: - Hosting company is using MS SQL 2005 - I am using the SQL Server Management Studio that comes with SQL Server 2005 Standard (NOT Express), which is installed on MY PC. - So, I am connecting to the SQL server over the internet
WHAT I WANT TO ACHIEVE: - I would like to backup the data sitting on the Hosting company's MS SQL Server. I only have one database on this SQL Server. There are of course 100s of other databases on the same server which belong to other customers of the hosting company.
- I want to bring the backup to MY PC, from the SQL Server.
- As far as I can tell the following options within SQL Server Management Studio may be of help to me. I do not know which one I should use or which one is best or what is the proper method. 1) Select Backup option from the Tasks menu (but it only shows me drives/devices on the Hosting SQL Server, not my PC, so I can’t backup to my PC) 2) Export Data (it does not work, showing errors ‘…not a trusted connection…’ I have no clue what a trusted connection is. 3) Copy Database (which is supposed to copy the remote database on the Hosting company SQL server, to my local SQL Server running on my PC). I go through the wizard, on the last screen it just hangs i.e. shows- not responding)

I have created a ASP.NET application on a development server that accesses a SQL Server 2005 database on the same server. This application runs flawless. However when I try to connect the same application to an identical database on a remote SQL Server database I get the following error " Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection." I actually backed up the database on the development server, and then restored the same database on the remote server. I can see the original ASPNET user account in the security tab of the restored database. However I cannot connect. The remote server has ASP.NET 2.0 installed. I have created a security database on the remote server (aspnetdb) and added the same login credentials as on the development server. I have changed the database connection strings in the web.config file to point to a: to the remote database only, and b: to both the remote database and the remote security database (aspnetdb).
i'm using sql server 2005 developer edition. In sql server 2000, when i connect to my remote database, i just need to provide my IP address, server name with password in Query Analyzer. However, i do not know how to connect to remote database in SQL Server 2005. I did allow local and remote connection using Surface Area Configuration. However, after setting this, i do not know where to input the IP add, server name and pwd as well...>_<.

I've been using .net 1.1 with access databases for the past couple of years, so this is all new to me.
I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express, Windows XP SP2. I connect using Windows authentication.
The data source that I'm trying to hit is on a remote server. It's an OpenLink ODBC Data source, and the server is in another location. SQL Server 2005 Express and the ODBC connection are both installed/configured locally on my machine.
I can connect to the remote server. The DSN exists as a System DSN.
The DSN has its own proprietary configuration utility, which I can configure so that the server name is XPLILLEYGSQLEXPRESS. The configuration utility doesn't care; I connect successfully one way or the other.
When I open Management Studio Express, I can see my database (CMS) listed under the "Databases" folder, but there's no tables in there, other than the system tables.
I have a SQL Server 2005 database (called BDHSE) in a PC which i call PC1. I have a second PC (PC2) and both are within a network (a WLAN).
What i want is to have access to BDHSE from an application in VB6 (APP1) running in PC2. All the INSERT, DELETE, UPDATE records process is done through APP1.
APP1 ia currently running in PC1 and is to be installed on PC2.
I have these questions:
1. What do i need to install in PC2 since all the INSERT, DELETE, and UPDATE is done using APP1? I guess i only have to install the Microsoft SQL Native Client (with all the prerequisites of course) but i am not sure.
2. In the APP1 made in VB6, do i have to change the connectionstring since i am accesing the database which physically is at PC1 and the APP1 will be used in PC2?
3. Any advice you can give me on doing this will be well received.

Hi guys, I can't find what is wrong. I am copying a database via DTS and I get an error mid way "Invalid object dbo.fx_get_role_from_ownerid". But the object does exist and it has benn in production for a while now. Why would I get his error, if the object does exist?
We are in web site development company,Previously we don't have proxy configuration, after implementing Proxy , we have an issue to connect a remote database.

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. i've created a package that will copy data from an oracle table to a sqlserv table (that table elemenst are identical), when i click on the connecting line between the two connections it executes without any errors, but nothing is copied, when i try to execute the package i'm getting an error... where can i go to find out what's causing the error. There is no error message or number returned from dts, all i get is a red 'x' . There are 1236 records that need to be inserted and when i get the red 'x' it tells me 1236 records have been processed. When i click on tranformations and select test, it works, but since it's a test nothing is actually copied. I've got other packages that i've created that do the same thing with other tables and they work. I tried just copying one record and that worked, so i assumed it must be data dependent, i've checked all the fields and made sure they weren't null, i've checked to make sure there aren't duplicate primary key records. Without knowing what the actual error is I'm stumped ???
I need to copy database from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 server. I was using the Copy wizard from SQL 2000 Server, I could enter the source server and server where to copy SQL 2005 but when I wanted to select the database to copy, nothing happened. Like I was kicked out, no errors etc.

I have a legasy database developed for SQL 2000 running in MSDE. I've tried COPY DATABASE into SQL 2005 (Developer edition, to see if I can get it to work right before specing out a new server), but the user accounts don't copy and I also suspect my settings for security and permissions aren't right.
I can set SQL server security to mixed mode, and the legasy system front end Access projects to connect using Windows authentication only, but then I'm unable to control access and set roles. I need to be able to connect as a particular user in order to admin the legasy system.
Is there a fairly uncomplicated way to copy user accounts and set SQL Server options to assign roles/permissions for an MSDE legasy system copy to SQL 2005?

hello there! i have a problem importing data from a remote connection using Sybase ASE ODBC driver(the sybase odbc driver is the only way we can access the database from the remote connection, we've already tried this in crystal reports). in the sql server import export wizard i chose the .net framework data provider for odbc. then below the wizard requires the following info: the connection string, DSN and driver. i specified the correct driver and dsn. in the connection string i specified the user id and the server name but it still produces error. the error says:
the operation could not be completed.

Basically I have an ASP driven forum, and want to upgrade to a new ASP.NET forum€¦ Problem is obviously the DataBase structure is different and I don€™t want to loose all the data from my current forum€¦ So I would have to pick which table field needs to be copied to where in the new DataBase..
