both variables as you can see are in the top level. the problem is that ChannelCode is string but Status is Integer. if I take out the /SET Package.Variables[Status].Value;1 part from the command line it will work fine. I think th eproblem is down to diffenrt types of variable as there are two types of String and Interger.
any ideas on what the problem migth be. p.s. I am runnning SQL server 2005 Dev edition (without any SP) Cheers
I created a package and stored in SQL server. I am running it as follows
master.dbo.xp_cmdshell dtexec /sq "ABC DEF GHI" /ser "Prod" ABC DEF GHI --> is my package name. When i run this from a job, it runs without error but when i run the above sql i am getting error as
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 2
Incorrect syntax near '/'. Am i missing some thing, please advice. Is that the problem between spaces in the package name?
I HAVE an SSIS Pkg that gets data from lotusnotes into SQLS ERVER 2005. This SSIS Pkg works just fine, when I run it from manually from Visual studio environment. I have a serious problem with my SSIS Package while executing using 32-bit DTExec and 64-bit DTExec.
Here are the details:
Environment:
Windows Server 2003 64-bit (Build 3790: Service Pack 2) SSIS 32-bit & 64-bit installed SQL Server 2005 (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (X64) - RTM)
SSIS Package details (compiled in 64 bit)
Script tasks only Microsoft Visual Basic .NET (using TRY...CATCH block) PreCompileScriptIntoBinaryCode = TRUE Run64BitRunTime = TRUE
Execution
Batch file that uses DTExec to execute the Package.
SCENARIO I am trying to exeucte the above SSIS package using both 32-bit and 64-bit DTExec to make it failure by providing invalid connection string. Here are the details,
Wrong connection String using 32-bit Execution
While establishing the connection the error message has been nicely captured in to my Exception block and writes into the log file.
Wrong connection String using 64-bit Execution
While establishing the connection the error has not been catpured anywhere (although I have TRY CATCH block) and it haults there itself with the message "Process is terminated due to StackOverflowException". Later I found that the error is due to the connection string along with the unhandled exception.
Please suggest any one of the following my findings, also if you have any other advice would be very much appreciated.
1. Shall I go ahead and fix the issue by handling those unhandled errors? (e.g Appdomain, application). I tried several but still not working using 64-bit DTExec.
2. Shall I go ahead and use 32-bit DTExec to execute the package? If so, is there any other major issue...like performance or anyother bug?
P.S: We cannot apply any service pack for SQL Server 2005 at the moment. Sorry abt it. If you have any specific hotfix for DTExec (without affecting SQL Server) then we can decide.
Sorry for the lengthy one and Thanks very much for you help in advance .
I have developed an SSIS package for ETL purpose. I am invoking the SSIS package through .Net console application by referencing the ManagedDTS Assembly. I am able to execute the package in Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition and it runs fine till completion.
But when i try to execute the packahe in Sql Server 2005 Standard edition, by invoking the package through .Net console application the status of the package is failure.
Can any one help me how to over come this problem.
We have a problem with visual studio. It hangs when i use the "execute package" option. New packages are running correctly but the packages which i've already built are not executing anymore...Any ideas to get things on track again?
I have a package that executes fine in BIDS. However, when calling it using xp_cmdshell it cannot find the path to the source flat file. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have stumbled on a problem with running a large number of SSIS packages in parallel, using the €œdtexec€? command from inside an SQL Server job.
I€™ve described the environment, the goal and the problem below. Sorry if it€™s a bit too long, but I tried to be as clear as possible.
The environment: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition, SQL Server 2005 32bit Enterprise Edition SP2.
The goal: We have a large number of text files that we€™re loading into a staging area of a data warehouse (based on SQL Server 2k5, as said above).
We have one €œmain€? SSIS package that takes a list of files to load from an XML file, loops through that list and for each file in the list starts an SSIS package by using €œdtexec€? command. The command is started asynchronously by using system.diagnostics.process.start() method. This means that a large number of SSIS packages are started in parallel. These packages perform the actual loading (with BULK insert).
I have successfully run the loading process from the command prompt (using the dtexec command to start the main package) a number of times.
In order to move the loading to a production environment and schedule it, we have set up an SQL Server Agent job. We€™ve created a proxy user with the necessary rights (the same user that runs the job from command prompt), created an the SQL Agent job (there is one step of type €œcmdexec€? that runs the €œmain€? SSIS package with the €œdtexec€? command).
If the input XML file for the main package contains a small number of files (for example 10), the SQL Server Agent job works fine €“ the SSIS packages are started in parallel and they finish work successfully.
The problem: When the number of the concurrently started SSIS packages gets too big, the packages start to fail. When a large number of SSIS package executions are already taking place, the new dtexec commands fail after 0 seconds of work with an empty error message.
Please bear in mind that the same loading still works perfectly from command prompt on the same server with the same user. It only fails when run from the SQL Agent Job.
I€™ve tried to understand the limit, when do the packages start to fail, and I believe that the threshold is 80 parallel executions (I understand that it might not be desirable to start so many SSIS packages at once, but I€™d like to do it despite this).
Additional information:
The dtexec utility provides an error message where the package variables are shown and the fact that the package ran 0 seconds, but the €œMessage€? is empty (€œMessage: €œ). Turning the logging on in all the packages does not provide an error message either, just a lot of run-time information. The try-catch block around the process.start() script in the main package€™s script task also does not reveal any errors. I€™ve increased the €œmax worker threads€? number for the cmdexec subsystem in the msdb.dbo.syssubsystems table to a safely high number and restarted the SQL Server, but this had no effect either.
The request:
Can anyone give ideas what could be the cause of the problem? If you have any ideas about how to further debug the problem, they are also very welcome. Thanks in advance!
And there is a task (Execute SSIS package) in First package that calls the execution of second package.
I m continuously receiving an error "Failed to decrypt protected XML node "PackagePassword" with error 0x8009000B "Key not valid for use in specified state.". You may not be authorized to access this information. This error occurs when there is a cryptographic error. Verify that the correct key is available."
As we are running first package by job, job runs successfully logging above error
The protection level of second package is set to "EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey"
I'm in the process of writing a fairly complex SSIS package that reads csv files and goes on to load the content into a SQL Server 2005 database.
I am testing the package by executing it from within a Nant script. My test process resets the data in the target database and then loads data from a known set of test data files. Because it's scripted I can be sure that SSIS is being asked to do the same thing, every time in a consistent way.
When I execute the package I frequently (although not always) get an error message dialog mid-ececution that reads:
Code Snippet
Microsoft Visual c++ Runtime Library
Runtime error!
Program: C...
The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
When I click OK the VS Just-In-Time debugger tells me about an unhandled win32 exception in DTExec.exe [4696] and asks me if I wish to debug (which I do not).
No error is reported by SSIS itself, it literally just stops in its tracks.
I will appreciate any help that can be offered here
while executing the package following error message is received as :
Error: 2006-07-28 15:12:36.60 Code: 0xC00470FE Source: Data Flow Task DTS.Pipeline Description: The product level is insufficient for component "Data Conversion" (202). End Error
and at the end as :
DTExec: The package execution returned DTSER_FAILURE (1).
Same error appers while executed from Integration Services - ->stored packages - - >name of the package -> mouse right button, run package.
But the same executes perfectly from visual studio, where it is developed.
It looks like you can run an SSIS package via the DTEXEC command. You can also specifiy a configuraiton file flag on the command. Is there anyway to specify a configuraiton filter if you stored it into a table vs and xml file?
I would like to fetch the data flow component name while package is executing. Since system variable named [System::SourceName] only fetches name of the control flow tasks? Is there a way to capture them?
Hi, I need to run a package wich is located on the file system of a PC. The problem is that the PC from where I'm running a bat file to call the package from the other PC where the package is, doesn't have SSIS. So I was wondering if this will work. I believe that I will have to copy the DTExec.exe file to the PC where my bat file calls to the dtsx in the other PC. I am right? My run.bat will have this line: \PCshared_folderpackage.dtsx. Will this work? Thanks
After moving my deployment folder to the Target Server, I run the Installation Wizard. As I move next, I am missing the window which is supposed to allow me to set package config values as stated in MSDN:
"If the package includes configurations, you can edit updatable configurations by updating values in the Value list on the Configure Packages page."
Does anyone know why I am not seeing it? In my deployment bundle which I have moved over has currently 3 files:
1) SSIS Deployment Manifest
2) SSIS Package
3) SSIS Config File
Again, I double click on SSIS Deployment Manifest, and it starts fine. I go thru the steps for File System Deployment, and then it prompts for installation folder path. After that, it takes me directly to validation. Why is it not showing me the Configure Packages Page as described in the MSDN Documentation. Please advise. Thanks.
I want to achieve the following in (SSIS/SSDT for SQL 2012) -Â
I have a generic SSIS package which simply sends out email notifications using SMTP email task (this package is within its own project, and has project level input parameters).
I need to be able to call this package in the Event handler section of every package (numbering in about less than 60) that we have. These packages are within their own respective projects.
I thought I could use the "execute package task", but it turns out , using this, I cannot call a package that is part of some other project. I also cannot call a package that is stored in the CATALOG. Is there any way I can do this ?
When I call the child package , I should be able to send in parameters like - error information and package name of the Parent package.
I'm trying to call the SQL 2012 SSIS packages deployed in SSISDB from batch files from another client system. But I couldn't find the DTExec.exe file in the 110Binn folder. How can I install this utility? Can I get this utility with client installation or do I need to install Server components which need license. I donot have license to install server component. how to install the DTExec utility without any licensing and provide me the Setup link where I can download and install.
We run the SSIS through tidal scheduling agent using the dtexec utility. We want to see the number of rows transfered while running or after it has run our package. We require answers for the following:
1) How to see the number of rows transfered while running the package using dtexec utility
2) what parameter should be used in dtexec command line to get the number of rows transfered in the Log file after execution.
Hi All, I hav a strange problem. I created a SSIS package on my machine with protection level as "EncryptAllWithPassword".
When I deploy this package on a SQL Server on another machine (either in File System or SQL Server)and add it as a job in SQL Server Agent and try to run it through a scheduler or manually the job fails with the following message -
Executed as user:IBM-P4-1976SYSTEM. The package could not be loaded. The step failed.
However if I deploy it on my own machine the job runs successfully. Also if I run the package using dtexec utility on the another machine it runs successfully. It is not running as a job on another machine. All the logged in users have administrative rights. My databases are altogether on a different server.
Can any one help me out with this issue...Pleassssseeee...
Can someone tell me the best way to "automatically" execute a SSIS package. I have approximately 100 computers that I need to execute packages on. Here is the scenario:
I have some text files that are coming from our AS400 to a local computer (the package will NOT be used to bring files from our AS400. I will be using Client Access for that). The text files will be stored in a specified directory on the local computer. I will be importing these text files into a SQL Database on all 100 machines. Once I create the Import Package, what is the best way to execute this package on the devices?
I thought maybe after creating the package, I can put an EXE on the desktop that will execute the SSIS package. This way all I would have to do is click a icon on the desktop. I don't know if this is feasible or not. After building a package, do you make it a EXE or what? Pease advise. Thank in advance.
First I explain my environment: - SSIS Packages are stored on 64bit Server (Win 2003 64bit, SQL 2005 64bit) - .NET (C#) application (on Win 2003 32bit Server) which loads and executes the SSIS Packages.
I can execute my SSIS Package localy on the 64bit Server and they work fine. When I execute the SSIS Package from the Application I get following exeption: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {697AC67E-FDD5-46D1-90D7-F3D0DF1B2A47} failed due to the following error: 80040154. ... at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Package..ctor()
The code looks like: Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Package local_Package = new Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Package(); Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.DTSExecResult local_DTSExecResult = new Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.DTSExecResult(); Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Application local_Application = new Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Application();
Other question would be: how can I execute a package directly on the server?? I mean without "LoadPackage"?? I guess the problem on top is because on the 32bit Server there is only Framework installed but not Integration Services Tools ...
I have created a SSIS package through SSIS Tool. Protection Level is 'EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey'. When I execute , it works fine.
I have written a code to execute SSIS package through .net application. When i try in my local PC. The package works fine.
When I deployed in Webserver, it throws an error,
DTS Package: Package1 failed. Error Details as follows. 1. Source : Execute SQL Task Description : Failed to acquire connection "DatabaseConnection ADO.NET". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.
"DatabaseConnection ADO.NET". is a connection which is specified in the SSIS.
Running eval. edition of Sql Server Standard 2005. "Insufficient product level" error is thrown during validation phase of an OleDBCommand data flow task. This task type is not licensed in Sql Server 2005 standard? The component runs a very simple sql update statement against a one row table in Sql Server 2005.
If it works from BIDS, should it not work from dtexec.exe on the same box?
Does dtexec run under the security context of the logged in user?
Is it possible to execute an SSIS package from Linux? Before with 2005, we were able to execute a job that would execute the DTS, now we're trying to execute an SSIS package in 2005.
--- "Try not to become a man of success but rather try to become a man of value."
I have a parent package that calls a child package. When this is executed on SQL server (the actual server host SSIS services) it executes fine I can see data in the correct tables and I can determine that is ran. But I try to run this from my local pc within the designer (Visual Studios) and the parent package runs a few task that are before the child package task but once it gets to the child package it stops. I have set breakpoint on several task with the parent package and I can step thru them but once it gets to the child it tries to run it then the execute package task object turns red. I can not find any error messages or codes. I even have beak points set up on the child package itself and the process never hits those break points but I'm assuming is cause is puking before I get to the child package.
The child package is stored in SQL server and is in MSDB. I just want to debug the child packages from BIDS or visual studios?
any one know how to debug child packages from BIDS or Visual Studios? I can if I run the child package by itself but I need to test from end to end ....so within the parent packages which calls a few child packages..
Is it possible to execute a child package from a parent package ashnchronously.
I have a SQL Server table containing a list of packages to execute. I want to create a master package that will query this table, and execute each of the packages asynchronously.
I've tried using the Execute Package task and also executing packages programtically from a Script task, but these only seem to work synchronously.
I have also seen suggestions about executing packages asynchronously from T-SQL by starting a job, however, I'd rather not have to dynamically create jobs for each package I want to execute.
Any ideas would be welcome. Or even an answer of "No this is not possible".
I am trying to execute a ssis package, where a user will be able to excute the package from an ASP page, the user will select a file, this will be the source file for the SSIS package, this will change when ever the package is executed, I was thinking of just using a sqlClient.sqlCommand and editing the command text and excuting it that way, or through a SP, would this be the best solution? Is there a better solution? and if not what would be the SQL command to execute the package, along with editing the variable?
While executiing an SSIS package i get the follwoing error:

The SSIS package contains one "Execute DTS 2000 package" which is written in SQL server 2000. The DTS written in SQL server 2000 and then i made the SSIS package for the same to be executed as "Execute DTS 2000 package" BUt the package execution fails.
I have seen some workaround also for same where it was saying to install some dll files for SQL server 2000 Meta data services. SQL server 200 meta data services is required for running DTS packages in SQL server 2005 server.
I installed that also but still the same error.
I have done all but all in vain. Your help will be very helpfull since this is the production issues.
