I want to import data from excel (1.2 million rows in 1 sheet) to SQL Server 2014 database. I am using SQL Server 2014 Import Export Data functionality and getting this error - unexpected unrecoverable error.

3 buttons beside it - abort, retry, ignore - all having the import export to close.

But I could successfully import data from excel file having less rows (150000 rows)

Truncation Error When Importing From ODBC To Flat File

Jul 31, 2006

I am having problems reading from and ODBC conncetion from Oracle RDB into SSIS. I am using a DataReader source which uses a ADO.NET odbc connection to an oracle RDB database. I am having that write to a flat file. When I read integers from the source, it works just fine. When I read character data (char(48) for example), it gives me trucation errors. Is the DataReader source capable of reading char data from an odbc connection?

Here is the errors I receive:

Error Importing Excel File

Mar 7, 2006

When ever importing a excel file or flat file, I get an Unhandled exception error and the event log reads a .Netframework error ID 1000.

Checking the database I was importing into, I find that the table was created with the columns, but no data within the columns.

The import wizards report 509 row copyed before crashing with the Handle error, where a dialog box appears allowing debug or close.

Can anyone help?

I include the logged errors.

Error While Importing Data From Excel

May 20, 2008

Hi,

My excel sheet consists of mix data types, numbers and characters but when we use excel source in data flow it onlys recognises characters and displays number as NULL. After going through this link
http://www.***s-blog.com/archives/2004/06/03/external-data-mixed-data-types/

The above link displays *** in url as it pronounces as deeks, so u need to replace "ee" as "ic" and u can see the blog.

I modified my excel source as Select * from[Excel 8.0;HDR=YES;IMEX=1;Database=C:Test.xls;].[Sheet1$]; It displays all the columns and values properly when previewed but when we execute the package it gives error as

Error: 0xC0202009 at Test, Connection manager "Excel Connection Manager": SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.
An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21.

In the database I have a table called tb_depts with the following columns:
dept_id int, identity
dept_name nvarchar (200)

In addition I have another table called tb_extUsers with the following columns:
user_id int, identity
user_name nvarchar (200)
dept_id int

I need to import the excel into the table tb_extUsers however my problem is that the value in excel is the name of the department and not the department id and the column in tb_extUsers requires the id.
How can i insert the correct dept_id into tb_extUsers ?

Hey guys,I am trying to import data from an Excel spreadsheet into my SQLdatabase. I am running SQL 2005.I following Microsoft's instructions for creating a linked server, andit appeared to work. However when I run this query:SELECT * INTO test FROM OPENQUERY(EFORMS,'SELECT * FROM [Form Tracker Baseline$]')I get the following error:The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server"EFORMS" reported an error. The provider did not give any informationabout the error.Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider"Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "EFORMS".Test is the table that will receive the imported data. Eforms is thename of my linked server, and Form Tracker Baseline is the worksheetname.The error sounds like it can not locate my spreadsheet. Any ideas whyI am getting this message? Importing Excel File Into Database

Sep 4, 2007

Hi, I am very new to ssis, I am trying to set up a package that I can set to run every hour or so, what it will do is look for all excel files in a certain folder and import them into a table on an sql server.

I managed to get it working but my problem is that my data is survey answers and some columns contain a comment.
I get these files on a weekly basis and some weeks the length of the longest comment makes ssis want to use a different data type for the comment column (sometimes it wants DT_NTEXT, other times it wants DT_WSTR).
as this column is filled out by a human I guess aposrtophies and other characters may affext this as well.

when I made the data flow task, I used the wizard on a file which contained about 8 weeks worth of data. when I use 1 weeks worth of data where the comment length is very low, the task gives a validation error saying the metadata is out of sync. if I go back and set the data type for that column to DT_WSTR and rerun the task, it works but then when it tries to process a different weeks worth of data it will fail again

here is an example of an error I get when it thinks the data type is wrong.
[Source - 'raw data$' [1]] Error: The output column "Question ID50# (Verbatim)" (439) on the error output has properties that do not match the properties of its corresponding data source column.

I played around with the data types for a while and managed to get it to process the first file and then try to process the secondfile, in the second file it got around the validation but then got this error:
[Source - 'raw data$' [1]] Error: Failed to retrieve long data for column "Question ID3# (Verbatim)".

is there a way to make it recalculate the data types by itself for each excel file?

I am stuck trying to figure this one out.
sorry if I havent provided enough information, I am not sure which direction to head with this

Error When Importing Data From Excel File

Aug 22, 2006

Hi!

This is what i'm doing:

IF EXISTS (SELECT srvname FROM master.dbo.sysservers srv WHERE srv.srvid !=

0 AND srv.srvname = N'ExcelSource')

EXEC master.dbo.sp_dropserver @server=N'ExcelSource', @droplogins='droplogins';

-
EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedserver
@server = 'ExcelSource',
@srvproduct = 'Excel',
@provider = 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
@datasrc = @Chemin,
@provstr = 'Excel 8.0';

EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedsrvlogin
@rmtsrvname = 'ExcelSource',
@useself = false,
@locallogin = NULL,
@rmtuser ='ADMIN',
@rmtpassword = NULL;

set @NomServ = 'ExcelSource';

This create a linkedServer to read my ExcelFile.

Then i'm doing this:

EXEC ('Insert into Elements (No_element, Nom_elem, Desc_elem, Code_grpe_classe, Tps_elem, Code_sgrpe, Code_produit)
Select No_element, Nom_elem, Desc_elem, Code_grpe_classe, Tps_elem, Code_sgrpe, Code_produit
from ' + @NomServ + '...[Elements$];')

This is where i got an error. The error is:
The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "ExcelSource" does not contain the table "Elements$". The table either does not exist or the current user does not have permissions on that table.

I can't figure out what i'm missing. I've add permissions for EVERYONE on the file and on the folder just to be sure and i still have the same error. How can i check if the table [Elements$] exist ?

Importing Data From Excel To SQL SERVER Database

Aug 23, 2006

Hello all:

I have gone through most of the question posed by people, about importing data from EXCEL sheet to some table using SQL server database. I have a slight variation of this problem.

My excel file contains some information apart from the normal data.
Lets say some 5-6 lines always gives me some info about the data, like its purpose, client info, date etc...
After this INFO my actually data start, which I want to load into table.

I have found some wizard for the same, "EMS SQL MANAGER 2005", which supports most of the file formats, and load data into the database.

But we are planning to not use this tool, instead everything should be done using TSQL.

If somebody can please gives me some idea how this problem can be tackle, it would be a great help. We won't be using any Third party tools, like scripting etc...

We want to stick with just TSQL for this problem.

Thanks a bunch,
sabegh

May 21, 2008

i have an excel sheet
in it there is a column that holds values of item numbers
some of these values are preceeded with zeros E.G "00123" (with out the ")
when i view the data in excel i get this little green corner whice states (when pressed) that these values are numbers stoerd as text.
no inside the excel sheet i have no problem with that
but when i try to import the excel sheet into ssis using an excel source task
all these values are imported as nulls!!!

i am lost
i tried converting the format of these cells to numbers but then i loose the leading zeros
what i done temporarly to solve this problem is to accept excel's suggestion and turn these values into numbers
i then import them and convert them to strings in ssis and then ad dthe zeros.
now althouge this works, this isnt realy a solution.
i canot manualy correct each excel file each time i get a new copy
and in the future i will not have the luxuery of having fixed lenght values (so i wont be able to know how many zeroe i"d need to add)

there must be a better way

Connectionstring Error For ODBC Database

Jan 11, 2008

Hi Everyone,

First of all I don't know whether this is the right place to put my query............please guide me the right link if this is not......

I am using Sybase Server in my .net project.............

and using this connectionstring...

Driver={INTERSOLV 3.11 32-BIT Sybase};Srvr=MySybase;db=MyDatabase;Uid=admin;Pwd=admin

I can make odbc connection (in .net code) using this connectionstring.............. and fetch the data also....

But somehow I don't know why... it gives the wrong result for my stored procedure.....

stored procedure is quite big and has many statements.......... after some digging I found that it gives the correct result if we use Server Explorer like Sql server, DBArtesian etc.. (not possible to copy it here, but it gives wrong result in date calculation)

But in Visual Studio Server Explorer when I make new connection and select "Microsoft OLEDB Provider for the odbc" and put the above connection string...it gives the correct result for the tables but wrong result for the stored procedure...

I feel that there is some problem with Provider....
I am not passing any provider here so it takes MSDASQL.1...

My question is What should be my connection string here..........????

and what's provider does actually???

Thanks in Adavance......

ActiveSheet.Cells(1, ColNr).Value = RecordSet.Fields(ColNr - 1).Name
Next

ActiveSheet.Cells(2, 1).CopyFromRecordset RecordSet

'Close ADO objects

Mostof the tables will come across unchanged (a few need massaging tohandle time intervals correctly), but the Import Wizard only seems towant to import one table (or more accurately query) at a time. Strange Issure When Importing Data From ODBC

Apr 12, 2007

Hi, there;

I have a SSIS package that importing data from ODBC source. It failed because of those long exception. To find out what causes the problem, I tried to import data by DTS package in SQL 2000. I just select small chunk of data(about 27 rows), the package gives error:

The number of failing rows exceeds the maximum specified.

Insert error, column 45('PrevStmtBal',DBTYPE_NUMERIC), status 12: Invalid status for bound data.

Insert error, column 45(LastSTmtBal,DBTYPE_NUMERIC), status 12: Invalid status for bound data.

.......: same error for other columns with same data type.

But, if tried these 27 rows one by one, I can import those data without any problem! This tells me that there is no data format issue with that part of data.

My ODBC source is D3.

Does anybody know what the problem is?

Thanks.

Problems Importing Data From An ODBC Source

May 3, 2006

I'm having an odd issue importing data from an ODBC source using a DataReader Source.

There's data in the source table, and if I use a non-SSIS tool to query the source, all the data is visible. However, if I use the SSIS DataReader source, It returns no rows, and throws no error.

Any ideas for figuring this one out? This is affecting about 10% of the tables from this data source, and it's our ERP application, so there's limits on what I can do to the source schemas.

Thanks!

Importing Data In MS SQL Server 2005 Using Odbc Drivers From A Remote Connection

Nov 28, 2007

hello there! i have a problem importing data from a remote connection using Sybase ASE ODBC driver(the sybase odbc driver is the only way we can access the database from the remote connection, we've already tried this in crystal reports). in the sql server import export wizard i chose the .net framework data provider for odbc. then below the wizard requires the following info: the connection string, DSN and driver. i specified the correct driver and dsn. in the connection string i specified the user id and the server name but it still produces error. the error says:

the operation could not be completed.

additional information:
ERROR[01000][SYBASE][ODBC Sybase driver][Sybase]ct_connect(): user api layer: internal Client Library error: HAFAILOVER: Trying to connect to server.
ERROR[01000][SYBASE][ODBC Sybase driver][Sybase]ct_connect(): user api layer: internal Client Library error: HAFAILOVER: Trying to connect to server.

i need your help guys... thnx

Importing From Excel To Ms SQL Without DTS

Apr 25, 2006

Is there any way at all to import from Excel to MS SQL without using the DTS package and without doing it manually? I really do not like the lack of flexability that DTS has and I need something else that will always work. Basically I am importing shipping documents that are in excel and putting them into a table. This has 2 issues, 1 I don't know the file name, just the folder it is in and 2 there is a large amount of header data in the file, some of which I need, some of which I don't. Is there any solutions out there? Thanks!

Importing From Excel

Aug 26, 2004

I need to copy the data in two spreadsheets into two
tables in "SQL Server 2000". Below are the details:

One spreadsheet contains the data that needs to be added
to an existing table in SQL server. All field names in the
spreadsheet match the DB table column names.
Another spreadsheet contains the data that needs to be
copied to a new DB table. The table currently does NOT
exist in the DB.

I'm not sure how to accomplish this. ANy help would be
appreciated.
