I want to make the ReportServer and Reports pages secured i.e not allow anyone to access these pages via browser.
I login to a machine as user ABC. This user does not have permission on reports.
if this user accesses ReportServer or Reports, expected is that access should be denied unless I enter
an account that has been given permissions.
for e.x. following pages should be secured.
http://<reportserver>/Reports
http://<reportserver>/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2f<Report_Project>%2f<Report_Name>
http://<reportserver>/ReportServer
http://<reportserver>/ReportServer?%2f<Report_Project>&rs:Command=ListChildren
Actual result is that I am able to access these pages. When I click on the report I get the error (this is expected)
but then user ABC should be shown error on first page itself.
In short, for all the accounts that do not already have permissions on reports, the server should challenge me to enter an account and password.
Is there some setting in the configuration file?
Any help would be appreciated

I have been running a script in SQL Server 2000 as sa also as a Active Directory user who has administrator rights (I tested both approaches SQL Server then Windows Authentication) in Query Analyser which grants execute rights to the stored procedures within the database instance and Query Analyser does not give any errors when I run the script. I have made sure that each transaction has a go after it. I then return to Enterprise Manager, check the rights (I apply them to roles so that when we create another SQL Server user we just grant him/her rights to the role) and discover that the role has not been granted the rights. I seems to be occurring only with 2 of the procedures. Is there a known bug that might be causing this?

I have a pretty complicated report (lots of subreports, tables, etc) that can be well over a few hundred pages long. I can generate the report just fine, but I cannot seem to export it to anything other than an html archive. I need to export to PDF. Every time I try to export it get an error that says:
An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details.
I don't get any more information than that. Is there a way that I can figure out what the actual error is, or any other way I can go about troubleshooting this? Thanks.

I have an application that uses Integrated Windows authentication. My Web.config looks like below

When users try to access my application, they get the below error:
Execute permission denied on object 'SprocName', database 'DBNAME',Owner,'dbo'
The Only way I could get rid off the error is if I set DBO permissions for the user group on the databse.
Can someone suggest how to set up a security group with the ‘necessary’ permissions on SQL SERVER (ie read,write execute Sproc etc) and not too many extra ones, like DBO.

O what a place to be I started this Contract as an (Interim) for a new DBA role, for an application support Company last month & all was going well. The User Application is run via Citrix against multiple Hosted Sybase ASA Databases. I introduced SQL 2005 with Reporting Services as a mixed Data Mart Remote Query via ODBC Linked Servers setup. Because they had never had a DBA before the Data I was able to pull from over thirty seperate databases into one and present via Reporting Services has blown them away. And then one day the Senior Support Analyst told me he had put the main most important Sybase Database on a completely seperate domain he had created(with no Trust between the two) , because he was unable to secure the existing domain against unauhorized remote internet intrusion & Viruses. (I never liked the idea that hosted customers were domainusers on the Corporate network) To add insult to injury he then told me to install & maintain another SQL Box on the new domain, OK so far. I logged into the supoposed new box via citrix & then remote desktop, and to my disbelief he had the desktop locked down - no access to control panel or anything - he asked me why i needed access - I told him - he asked me why I need to have reboot priveleges - I told him. So now he's installed 2005 himself in the vain hope I can work without Local Admin privelages or need to unlock the Desktop - he certainly won't give me Domain Admin. I Just cannot believe I'm unable to persuade him to Unlock the Desktop & have even threatened to walk out unless he lets me do my Job. He probably does'nt like me but there can be absolutely no question about my abilities or accessing data that i should'nt. He's basically read a Deny by Default article and expects me to start of as a user with a locked desktop and then request & justify escalating my security from there. Is this possible ? I got through the installation hoops for SQLEXPRESS Reporting Services in Vista and set up the default configurations in Report Services Configuration. I can explore the default directory for "Reports" in IIS7, but I can't browse in IE. I get the "The report server is not responding. verify that the report server..." message in the browser. This is after I migrated the app per the initial http 500 error using the preferred method - %systemroot%system32inetservAPPCMD.exe migrate config "Default Web Site/Reports".
I'm running Vista Ultimate, VS2005, SQLEXPRESS SP2. I've tried running IE as admin and also I've disabled UAC from gpedit.msc - ...Windows SettingsSecurity SettingsLocal PolicySecurity Options and unchecking UAC.

I have a user in Report Manager as Browser.
I want this user to create report snapshots but when i give this permission to this user with Manage report history permission , this user can also make changes on execution properties and history properties of the report.
Is there a way to let the user only and only create & view report snapshots but not modify the execution and history properties of the report ?

I went to my comp ->rt cick->manage-IIS->default website->rt click->properties->directory security->annoymouse access€¦EDIT->under Default domain it was blank, and i added a domain there.
And i was getting error opening up the reports from localhost.
I changed everything to same as it was previosly, and I am getting the error:
The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. (rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable) (rsRPCError) Get Online Help

As I understand correctly, SSRS is able to assign a domain user to a report item. I have more than 2000 reports which need to be assigned to > 2000 unique domain users, is there a way I can run a script to automate this process? Otherwise what is the right way to do this?

We have reports deployed in the Report Server. While connecting from client, we are getting the error
"An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. rsInternal Error)"
Then we went to Report Server, Reporting Service and SQL Server service are all are running fine.
Important thing is some time the reports are working fine, sometimes i am receiving this error. Please help.
We predict whether the services are automatically restarted or transaction logs exceeding the limit or any other parameters to set to avaoid this error?

I have the error above, but no error log. I can preview the sub report - but this main report fails after working this morning. This is for internal company reports and I rebuilt this one after converting from access.
I have looked where the error logs should be, but there are no error logs.
I rebuilt the query as I needed to change this, but this did not help.
Is there someone who could point me in the correct direction.

I installed SQL reporting services 2005 and successfully configured reporting services.After designing the report using Bussiness Intelligence Studio, i tried to deploy my reporting services application to the localhost , I got the below mentioned error :

I do not want to add the login account to sysadmin role on my production server and giving the logon account db_reader rights to my database is not working. Is there another way around it.

I have SQL Server RS integrated with SharePoint. I created two reports pointed to the same data source and both worked great when launching from SharePoint. After making a title change in Visual Studio, I uploaded both reports, overwriting the old ones. One works and the other doesn't. The one that does not allows me to put in the parameters and then runs for about two minutes with the "Report is Being Generated" page. It then seems to time-out:
An unexpected error has occurred.
Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services.
I checked the SharePoint log and did not see any errors. I also checked the logs in the SQL ServerMSSQL.1Reporting Services folder and did not see anything that indicated my report being executed at all. I'm at a loss, and have no idea how to troublehoot this effectively. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

We are going insane trying to start Report Manager on a SQL Reporting Services 2000 installation. The programmer/admin who originally set this up for us is gone.
We recently upgraded a database/application server to a new server, causing the data source being used by reports in reporting services to no longer be valid. Unfortunately, we do not have access to the original report project to 're-deploy' with the corrected data source.
We desperately need to get the reports that are installed to retrieve their data from the new database location/machine. We understand this can be done by specifying a new data source in Report Manager. (To clarify, we have NOT moved the report servier installation or database, these remain in place - it's just the deployed reports that no longer point to the correct data source.)
For some reason, our Report Manager will no longer run - when we try to launch it, we get a windows login dialog - nothing will work here. We've tried both local and domain admins and constantly get ACCESS IS DENIED 401.3 error messages that we do not have permission/problems with ACL's.
We've gone so far as to allow EVERYONE read/write access to the ReportManager and ReportServer folders and the RS virtual directories, but nothing seems to help.
Can anyone help with this? Ideas on how to change our data source, or how to get back into Report Manager?
Since we are somewhat technical, but not experts, and don't have much more time to waste, we are willing to pay $500 for this project to someone willing to access the server and fix the problem so that the reports point to the correct database and restore access to Report Manager.

I have created an RDL file programatically. When I execute the code I get the error as mentioned below:
Error: Sub report cannot be shown.
An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError)
When I copy and paste the code of RDL file into new RDL file and try to preview the output I get correct result.
Note: The new RDL file does not give any error if the output is seen using preview tab but it gives the error only when executed from report viewer or from internet explorer.
Any Suggestion/feedback is highly appreciated.

I am trying to use the reporting services on Windows 2003 with SQLServer 2005. Everything works fine in the report manager and I can access and render the reports without any problem. But when I try to access the reports directly with the URL from the ReportServer, I get the following error :

[edit] I just installed a few minutes ago the service pack 1 for SQL Server 2005 and Reporting services, but obviously it doesn't change anything to my problem. [/edit]

Hai friends,
I was created report with 9 sub reports , with multiple column driildown for based on client requirement, iam displying the correct data and in database server data is availabel between 11/01/2007 to 11/30/2007, iam applying the input parameters are begin date, end date, region(defaultly ALL), Department(defaulty ALL), site(defaulty ALL).
my problem is while selecting the default dates (minum and maximum dateranges) with selecting ALL regions, ALL departments, ALL sites iam not getting the output. it showing error like
" An error occur on local report processing, an internal error occur on report server, see error log for more details"
but iam selecting the date as 11/01/2007 to 11/02/2007( that is not large records, between two dates only) it shows correct output.
while applying the default ranges that is 11/01/2007 to 11/30/2007 report shows above mentioned error.
problem with 9 sub reports ? or any thying
please help me how to solve my problem next coming two days i have to deploy my report to client, at the time it will show data between default date ranges.

Well, I get the elusive error...
An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details.
I was trying to preview my report and this keeps coming up. I go to the logfiles to see what may be the issue and there are no errors in the log files(s). Can someone let me know what the usual path or name of the error log this is supposed to write to.

I have rs2005 installed. I created some reports through SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio. I can preview reports fine in the studio. But after deploying it, on //localhost/reports, when I click the report, it takes a while to calculate and then give me error: "An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. "
The weird thing is if I restart report service, it will display report fine on the first time, then fail on the following attempts.

I have developer who is working With VB using COM objects for creating a webpage, and he is making a connection to SQL server using NT account. the NT account has datareader,datawriter and exec SP on the database that the COM objects is calling. But he get the following error 'Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON''when click on the webpage that was creted using VB.
Does anyone know why would this happend.

I am using an ERP system with SQL Server as the back end. When our user tried to run a function in ERP system, they got the following error:
229,"42000",[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]SELECT permission denied on object 'Grant', database 'HEI', owner 'dbo'
I ran "sp_helprotect Grant" to check the permission, it looks okay.
When I used the administrator's User ID to login to the machine and ran the same function in ERP, it works fine.
Anyone knows how to fix it?

Andy,I am new to SQL.
