Error Installing SQL Server Management Studio Express On Windows Vista RC1
Nov 18, 2006
Hello NG,
After installing SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on Windows Vista RC1, I wanted to install also the Managent Studio but I always receive the following error message:
"Bei der Installation dieses Pakets ist ein unerwarteter Fehler aufgetreten. Es liegt eventuell ein das Paket betreffendes Problem vor. Der Fehlercode ist 29506."
Where can I find more infos about this error-code?
I'm attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition Management Tools [only] on my workstation which is running Widows XP Pro SP2. I already have VSTS 2005 installed with SQL Server Express and Management Studio Express Edition.
Attempting to do an advanced install with just the Management Tools specified under Client Components, results in the Version Check warning that setup must be run with SKUUPGRADE=1 specified. When I do that, the installation fails with an unexpected error. Clicking the 'Help' button, displays the following info:
Yesterday I successfully installed Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition which included SQL Server 2005 Express. Today I noticed I needed to download the Management Studio seperate download. I downloaded SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi and executed it and get the following error:
Error reading from file C:...SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it..
Solved my own problem. Once I moved the msi to C: the installation worked. Apparently the path it was in was too long causing it to be unreadable. c:xxxxxxxxSQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msiSQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi.
I have SQL Express 2005 SP2 installed in my Vista Home Premium. I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express to manage .mdf.
When I click "Add..." to attach .mdf database, I have this prompt error message :
The server principal "My-PCMyName" is not able to access the database "model" under the current security context. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 916)
I have elevated the rights, "Run as administrator", of my SQL Server Management Studio Express, but still having problem.
I also encounter security error when detaching the existing .mdf : The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'sp_detach_db', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 229)
Miscrosoft SQL Server Management Studio Express (SQLServer2005_SSMEE.msi) don't complete setup on Windows Vista Beta 2 with Sql Server 2005 Express installed.
Error Code 29506. C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL server\90Tools, Alberto
Firstly, can someone confirm that this can be done. Because I am starting to wonder.
I have downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express install, and attempted to install. Everything goes well. Computer scan indicates that everything is in place, but then when it goes to install the components it states that the following components failed:
(Successful items were SQL Setup Support Files, SQL VSS Writer, OWC11, SQL Server Backward-Compatibility Files, SQL Server Management Studio Express).
For those Items that failed, I just get a message stating "Setup failed. Refer to Setup Log'. The setup log tells me little to nothing about why these components failed.
I am also getting the following message part way through install "An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli.mis'". Does anyone know what this means? I downloaded the install from microsoft.com just a few days ago, so if this isn't "valid", then where do I get a valid one.
I'm totally stuck. Have spent almost a day trawling documentation etc. to find why these have not installed, but cannot find any indication of why they wont install.. everything that needs to be in place is. Hoping someone has had similar issues and can help.
I just got a new machine with Vista on it. It also came with SQL Server 2005 Express.
How do I install SQL Server Management Console on this machine? I do have an MSDN DVD with a Developer's Edition on it. Can I use this somehow? When I try to run the Tools setup.exe with SKUUPGRADE=1, it tells me there is nothing to upgrade.
Hi, I am using Windows vista ultimate 32 bit. I installed SQL Server 2005 developer edition on my machine it installed ok but i cant open sql management studio. I have just installed SQL Server 2005 and SP2. but didnt get it working. I dont have any SQL Server Express or visual studio installed on the machine. I can see an icon of sql management studio in the programms menu When i try to open sql management studio it gives me an error saying "Progarm is closing" and it closes the whole SQL Server. Can any one help me please what is going wrong and where thanks in advance.
There are numerous posts regarding this error when installing SQL Server 2005 on Windows Vista RTM thus I am starting a new thread in order to get resolution one way or another:SQL Server Setup failed to execute a command for server configuration. The error was [SQL Native Client]Windows user or group "USERNAMESQLServer2005MSFTEUser$USERNAME$MSSQLSERVER" not found. Check the name again... The error occurs when installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition, SQL Server Express SP1, SQL Server Express SP2 CTR (with or without the SP2 Toolkit package installed beforehand). The error occurs with or without UAC.
The installation then fails. Please advise if you have any insights. SQL Server Express SP2 CTR was announced as a workable version for Vista... note that this is not the case.
I was wondering if i install sql server management studio express (05) on a pc with enterprise manager(00) on it, if that will upgrade the enterprise manager? I was hoping to have them installed side by side so that i can manage my sql server 2000 dbs on a server with enterprise manager and manage a sql express 05 db i have on another pc with the managment studio. Thanks!
I installed the managerment stuid on my machine and now none of my database connections seem to work any more. I keep getting the attached error. Before I installed the studio the system worked fine, I could connect to the database and everything was fine. Does the studio change any permission stuff? I cannot seem to get it to work again at all now, I added in aspnet as a login inside the studio and it still won't let me connect to the database. I cannot find *any* logs anywhere that might be helpful in what it is doing or see any way to debug the connection to find out what the problem is. When I look at the permissions inside of the studio it shows me that the connections should all be fine.
I checked and remote and local connections are setup, although it is only doing local connections anyway since this is a asp.net web server page.
Any idea what the problem is here? This is very frustrating and annoying :( Since I didn't change anything and now nothing I will do gets it to work. I even tried to uninstall the management tool and it still doesn't work. Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'GREENANDFLUFFYASPNET'.

Whenever I try to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on my Vista Ultimate x64 platform I get error 29506. All I could find on the web was that this is probably due to an access control problem. I have tried installing it as the local administrator, as a member of domain admins, and as the domain administrator. All get the same error. My domain is a Small Business Server domain. This may be part of the problem, but I can't imagine how.
When trying to force access to the domain administrator, I also seem to get an access problem.
I've downloaded the sql server 2005 management studio express executable to my second hard drive, as there is no room on my main drive
However, when I try to install, the program shows me both drives, and shows that there is not enough room on my main drive, but it does not allow me to change the installation to my second drive.
I have previously installed the main sql express product to my second drive with visual studio. There's loads of room.
Can anyone give me a clue as to why this might be happening.
I'm trying to run the disk usage reports from the SQL Server Management Studio and I'm getting an error. I right-click on a database, go to Reports, then Standard Reports and select Disk Usage by Table. I get the error below. Can anyone help?

When launching Microsfot SQL Server Management Studio Express, I get a Popup Error box (!) without any text. After pressing the OK button, everything seems to work fine. Any ideas as to what it's trying to tell me?

I'm trying to install "SQL Server Management Studio Express" on a PC running Vista and I get the following message.
"Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system. For information on supported configurations, see the product documentation."
Ive read on some pages that it is in fact possible to install and run SQL Server 2000 on Vista. In my university, SQL Server 2000 is still used to teach us about databases and how to administrate them. The computers run Windows 2000 Professional. I need to be able to use 2000 so I can not only have compatibility but also know the steps and all possible conditions and solutions to problems. Would installing and running SQL Server 2000 on Vista be possible or am I better off using 2005? Is there much difference between these 2 versions?
Hi, Trying to install SQL Server 2005 on Windows VISTA Ultimate, received following error:

I am trying to connect to a remote sql server 2005. So I have install the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. When I try to connect I get the error below.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53). Can some one please help. I have even port no 1533 on my pc. Thanks.
I'm getting this error when installing SQL Express 2005 on a non-English version of Vista.
"SQL Server Setup could not validate the service accounts. Either the service accounts have not been provided for all of the services being installed, or the specified username or password is incorrect. For each service, specify a valid username, passowrd, and domain, or specify a built-in system account."
Using Wise I get this error only when installing on a non-English version of Windows Vista, I can get the install to complete if I remove nt/authority. I've tried changing the non-English versions of Vista localization to English but I still get the same error.
I am attempting to install SQL Server 2005 express with SP2 on Vista Business - as a requirement for a new software package. The installation fails at the point of installing performace counters - the errors are below. I have been unable to find any support entry for this error:

I have SQL Server 2005 Dev Edition with SP2 installed on Windows Vista Ultimate on my local computer.
I have a development cluster running 2000 as well as several production clusters running 2000. The production clusters are accessed through an encrytped tunnel.
The dilemna.
I am able to connect to the clusters fine. I am also able to access the each DB without incident. My problem comes when I try to connect to DB's with a large number of tables. DB's on the same clusters with around 20 tables come back fine. I am able to start to click on the views drill down and press the stop action and it will display a small list of views. The tables view however, goes into la la land.
My local Dev cluster has all the same DB's as my production clusters and has no problems returning the tables in any of the DB's.
I get an "IS BUSY: Micorsoft SQL Server Managment Studio is waiting for an internal operation to complete." error and the managment studio never completes.

I have installed and used SQL Server 2005 64-bit Standard Edition for the last 8 months. Now I am trying to install Management Studio on my PC so I don't have to run the profiler, etc. from the server. The DVD & CD only contain 64-bit program files that will not install on my PC. I can't seem to find a download. Am I out of luck here?
