Error Installing WSus On A Server Sql2005 Remotely
Nov 21, 2007
Personnel, OK?
I am trying to install the Wsus 3.0 and store your database on a server-database SQL2005 SP2 remotely.
When I come on screen Database Option I choose Using an existing database server on this computer I put my <serverName> <instanceName> ai seems the message below:
Did I thought that all procedures on the Net, such as enabling Remote Connections, signed in sql remote machine using sqlcmd, picked up the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909801 for authentication kerberos (my authentication this via NTLM do not know why) but still did not work, someone already went through this problem?
WSUS is installed on my windows 2003 server. During the install, parameter DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS was not specified, and so no remote connection was possible.
I used SVRNETCN.exe to enable TCP/IP remote connection on port 1433. However it seems not to work.
FROM THE SERVER :
osql -E -S MYSERVERWSUS works fine but
osql -E -S 127.0.0.1WSUS doesn't work, i get the famous error
After installing sql2005 sp2 a simple select query to a linked server reports the following error message:
Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded. Before installing SP2 we used sql2005 without any service packs, the linked server worked fine.
The linked server is a Visual FoxPro database.
After uninstalling and installing the 'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro 9.0' the issue stil remains.

i've got "Windows Server Update Services encountered an error. The log file for database 'tempdb' is full. Back up the transaction log for the database for free up some log space" error. i'm using MSDE at my current server which is function to download windows update from internet so all pc's at my local domain automatically update windows from this server without using internet.
what i'm suppose to do to solve this error? i've no idea coz i'm not familiar with MSDE. thankss..
New sql2005 install as a named instance and having trouble connecting from remote machines.
I noticed on our other servers that the "Public" server role is listed in permissions (right-click over the sqlmgr connection for the dialog, then permissions).
When I try to add the role to the new server it doesn't save! This is the only setting that's different, can't connect using sqlmgr from other machines to this server so any ideas on other settings to look at appreciated.
I am trying to remotely connect to a SQL 2005 Instance on a cluster. I see the following error:
No retry on exception System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
I have enabled TCP/IP , Named Pipes on the node. I have turned off IPSec on the clients as well. I am using the following connection string : "Integrated Security=SSPI;server=servernameinstancename;Pooling=false;database=TrialDB"
I've been trying to configure remote connections to my sql server express to no avail.
First here are some constants to clear some things up: - OS: Windows XP Pro - SQL Express version: April CTP release - Windows Firewall: disabled (to avoid any problems there) - Network type: two computers connected a router. - Router firewall: Enabled (I may be wrong but the router firewall only blocks external traffic, so I left it on.)
First, I configured my SQL server to allow remote connections in the SQL Surface Area Configuration. (Set it to both TCP/IP and named pipes)
Second, I enabled and configured sql server browser.
Third, I enabled TCP/IP and named pipes in the 'Protocols for SQL Express' option of the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
According to http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlexpress/archive/2005/05/05/415084.aspx I have done everything I need to (including edit the registry to enable the SQL Server Browser service) and the error I continue to get is:
"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)"
So I tinkered and had no success in messing with anything that would fix it. Although, ***when I browsed for network servers on different machine, the server instance DID show up in the list***. So I find it odd that it can find the instance when browsing, but fails to 'find' it when making a connection.
So I didn't stop there, I decided to try the non-sql server browser method of remotely connecting: specifying the IP.
I went back to the blog of instructions referenced above and re-did the steps, this time specifying a TCP Port for the server instance and then after specifying the port on the remote computer connection string, and attempting to connect, I get this error:
"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10060)"
I've done all I know how, read all the possible blogs I can, and nothing's come up. If anyone can shed some light on me, I'd pay you 1 billion pretend dollars. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
I have installed sql2005 default instance, and I need to install anther named instance. but when I tried to install the s/w it does not give option for new instance instead, it shows only uninstall option.
I'm currently receiving the following error message whilst attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on Windows Server 2003 (32 Bit): Error 29528. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Installing performance counters. The error is: The system cannot find the file specified.
This server already has an install of SQL Server 2000 as the default instance. I'm attempting to install a new named instance of SQL Server 2005.

You can ignore this and it will complete the installation, but subsequently trying to patch with SP2 will fail on the same sections - Hotfix.exe crashes whilst attempting to patch Database Services, Integration Services and Client Components (3 separate crashes).
I've removed SQL Server 2005 elements and tried to re-install, but it's not improved the situation.
i have a vista basic running on my lappy,i have beeen trying to install either sql2000 or sql2005 on it for the past one month i keep getting funny errors like installshield engine has stopped working.WHile on the sql2005 the installation will exclude the database mangament studio ,etc..I had disabled the norton antivirus running to no effect.
I Had VS20005 and SQL 2005 Working perfectly. For some errors, I did formatted my PC and installed VS2008. After doing that, I am trying to install MSSQL2005, when installation be in "Integration development environment with 2005" Phase, An error appears, and the installation stopped. What I have to Do to solve this? Note: I ahve XPSP2 32 bit installed.
Hi, pls can anyone help me out with this? I'm installing SQL2005 SP2 over an Itanium machine with W2003 SP2 but it keeps on failing on those features. Client components got installed with no problems. I've installed SQL2005-SP2 over x86 and x64 (not Itanium) machines many times before successfuly. I've been investigating this issue for several days with no luck so I'm a bit clueless at the moment. As I'm using Administrator account I think it is not file permission related. Summary says "Unable to install Windows Installer MSP file".
I am interning at my university and I am installing and running windows server update services. My problem is that I made all of the necessary changes in the group policy and only half of the clients on the domain are reporting to the server. Keeping in mind that I have people around me who do not understand anything about servers. If there are any suggestions please respond.
I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 install that I am trying to use as a WSUS server.I have setup SQL Server 2012 Express on the server to be used as the WSUS database. When installing the WSUS role, I select the option to install the SQL database and continue through the wizard to the point where I have to connect to the database. At this point I enter 'ServerNameMSSQLSERVER' and select 'Check Connection'.At this point, I get the following error: 'A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.
The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - (Connection string is not valid)I have tried using localhost and the server's IP for the name, but those fail as well. How can I get this working? It's urgent for me as I already have downtime scheduled for patching. The server is not hosting any other roles and is joined to an existing domain. Unfortunately, I don't have access to any of the other servers on the domain.
I have SQL 05 and SQL 200o on same server . SQL 05 version is a named inatnce. But when i try to connect it from my computer first it doest show the name instance in the list and when i manulay write its name i got this error.
"A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)"
I went to check that remote connectiona nd SQL browsing is on or not but both were on . any ideas why this is happening and why the name is not coming in list of Server.
Hi All Im a new comer to the site and wsus. I inherited a functional wsus server it was great but due to a demand for improved reporting features I attempted to install the Wsus rollup reporting sample. Im uncertain as to how but I hashed up the installation to the extent that it corrupted the MSDE installation. It was suggested I remove wsus and reinstall.
At this point I made another error. I was told that WSUS 3 had improved reporting features (and indeed it does, its infinitely better in that respect) so I signed up with Microsoft and downloaded the installation file.
WSUS 3 uses SQL 2005 for Windows so my back up of the MDF & log files were rendered useless.
I have since removed WSUS 3 reinstalled a fresh copy of WSUS Sp1 and run the synchronisation job.
The fresh install does not have my machines/groups setup nor any of the updates approved.
I would like to know is there any way I can use the MDF file and its log to rebuild my WSUS environment?
I have a problem installing SQL Server 2000 standard edition in a Windows 2003 Server , when I try to setup there is a message saying : " You cannot install SQL server 2000 sp 2 and below in this operating system " and the installation stops .
I have tried to run sp3 before the installation but obviously It doesn´t work . I think the solution is something like updating the setup program to make it work in Windows 2003 Server , when I see the system requirements on the box it says that I can install SQL server 2000 in w2003 .
I am making web application using Asp.net C#(Visual Studio2005). And Sql server 2000 as a back End upgraded with service pack 3 and analysis service.
Now I am trying to install sql server 2000 report services. But I run SQL2KRSSP1-ENG.EXE setup
Then following error occurs
The upgrade patch can not be installed by window installer because the program to be upgraded may be missing , or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.
I redownload the same exe to other location. And again run but getting same error
Please Guide me or atleast give some help full link.
I'm not sure if this is an old issue, but I couldn't find it in any thread. Here I go:
I downloaded SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition from the MSDN site; but when I run the installation wizard I get this error: Errors occurred during the installation Error 87 installing .NET Framework 2.0 The parameter is incorrect
And then I have to cancel the installation. This machine meets the hardware requirements, and it already has the .NET framework 2.0 installed. Humm, what else? It's a Windows 2003 Server SP1 machine...let me know if you need more information.
I've been trying to figure out a solution, but I finally gave up
I'm trying to install Team Foundation Server, but first I have to install IIS 6.0 (done), SQL Server 2005, Share Point Services....and I'm afraid that the TFS Installation Wizard will ask me to dance 'Macarena' or something like that ¬¬
Ejem, sorry for the whining. Well, does anyone out there know what can I do in order to successfully install SQL Server 2005? Any help will be appreciated
I was wanting to use one of the samples called stock which is a notification sample and while i was reading the instrutions from the book, it did not match the managment studio for instance after i clicked on properties on a login there should have been a database access table on the right panel but it came up with user view, by then i thought i had an older version so i tried to update it to sp2 (x64 version the others came up with an hotfix error not being a win 32 app during extracting). after i installed it along with the new updates for documentation and samples it was no longer able to connect to my sql server instance that i had been using and this error comes up
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
i have gone to configuration manager and enabled named pipes as well as going to surface area config and enabled tcp/ip and named pipes but that has not resolve the area
Desperately need to get this problem resolve so if anyone can tell me how to fix i thank you in advance

Is it possible to install SQL Server 2005 Eval on a Virtual PC 2007 client running Server 2008 Beta? Nothing says it isn't possible, it says I need to service pack it right away, but before it gets started it comes up with the error 'sqlcu.dll failed to load'. Anyone know what this is all about?
