Error Loading Tables Of Different File Groups.
Apr 6, 2006
Hi All,
I am facing a peculier problem. Problem definition goes like this,
I have one staging DB in which all the tables resides in Primary file and one production DB in which tables resides in 2 secondary files.
Now when iam trying to load the data from the table A in staging which is on primary file to the table A1 in production DB which in secondary file, all the data are going to error log instead of table A1.
Can you please tell me, where am i going wrong.

I've been working on an SSIS package trying to load some data and the archive sequence is faulty. I've been trying to load a few tables created in a previous sequence into a local archive file and I've been getting the error "Could not find a part of the path."
The results aren't telling me what it's finding last and so I don't know where to start.
And the source DOES have data in it. It's something between the source and the destination.

We have a large Datawarehouse and the size is 50TB.. The tables are placed in filegroups based on the schema like fact, dimensions, raw data each sit on seperate filegroups. I am thinking will it make sense to seperate the large facts which are having billions of rows so that they reside on filegroups on their own..

I have several 2012 availability groups running on a cluster. I have one database that is bulk loaded every 30 minutes. The DB is about 1 GB in size. To be on the availability group it has to be set to full recovery mode, but simple or even bulk would obviously be better. Is there a better way to handle the transaction log size other than to run a backup after each bulk load causing extra overhead? With mirrors you could use simple, but since those are going away . . .

Hello,
I have a bundling package that runs about 20 other packages. It has been working fine for a while but a couple of days ago it fail with the following message,
Error 0x800706BE while loading package file "D:PackagesToradSales.dtsx". The remote procedure call failed.
I´m running the SSIS packages in an 64-bit environment.
Thankful for help with this!

I have multiple xml data file in a directory say C:XMLData abc1.xml, abc2.xml, abc3.xml etc.
Need to loop through each file in ssis with Foreach loop container, and get the file name say abc1, and load the data of abc1.xml to abc1 table in sql server DB.
Next iteration will pick up the abc2.xml and find the abc2 table in sql server DB then insert the data in abc2 table.
While each iteration, xml source should also point each xsd file correspondingly.
Tables are already created in DB
I solved my problem up to getting the file name from ech iteration and assigned file name to variable, in oledb destination data access mode I select Table or view name variable, then corresponding table will get selected for data insertation.
Just wanted to know how can I read each xsd file for each xml data files while iteration.Â

Hello,
I deployed an SSIS project to my SQL Server. The project I deployed contained two packages. One called the other. After deployment I notice that both packages are indeed in the SQL Server. However when I try to run it I get the error below. This error happens during the "Execute Package Task" and the path the error is pointing at is my local development path, not the one it was deployed to. Is there any way to fix the path? And how can I get it to deploy both packages so it knows where they are when I run it from the server?
Error 0x80070003 while loading package file "C:VS ProjectsTestingRun Codes to DBRun Codes to DBSofAid_DBRefresh.dtsx". The system cannot find the path specified.
Thank You

Hi,
I have a csv file with 1.8 million records. Few of the text columns in each row has commas(,) in them and hence those columns are enclosed by " ".
An example record would look like:
123,abc,"abc, city, state",222,...
Now, the 3rd column should be read as: abc, city, state
But, it is reading ("abc) into 3rd column, and (city) into 4th column and (state") into 4th column resulting in data errors.
Is there a way to specify that fields are optionally enclosed by " as we do in Oracle?
Thanks,
Anil

Hi,
I have a problem loading data from a flat file into a DB2 Dtabase by using the OLE DB Provider for DB2.

Hey Everyone,
I have a Data-Flow task embedded in a Sequence Container (does not fail component on error) on the Control Flow panel of the SSIS designer. This data flow task contains a connection to a Flat File Source -> A Data Transformation -> Into an OLE Db Destination.
The problem is that the Flat File isn't always delimited properly -> the client cannot be relied on to do this.
My question is when the delimiters are messed up, how can I capture the offending error row(s) from the Flat File Source?
What I've tried:
1) Set every column in the source flat file on error to: Redirect Row
2) Added a Script Transformation to pull the description and the record id out of the offending row
3) Added an Error file flat file destination to the end of the flow.
The package always fails on the Flat File Source and never Redirects the offending Row to the error output - I never see my onError Script Transformation go Green, Red, or Yellow - SSIS doesn't let it get there.
I'm really new to SSIS so sorry if this is a super basic question.
Here is the Error Text:
[Source - InventTable_csv [1]] Error: The column delimiter for column "RECID" was not found.
[Source - InventTable_csv [1]] Error: An error occurred while processing file "C:------InventTable.csv" on data row 15228.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: The PrimeOutput method on component "Source - InventTable_csv" (1) returned error code 0xC0202092. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: Thread "SourceThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0047038.
I do have the MaxErrorCount set to 1 on the Data Flow Task but still think I should see my script task execute and a log entry be generated.
Any Ideas?
Matt

I have one of our production Accounting Databases starting from 2 GBnow grown into a 20 GB Database over the period of a few years...I have been getting timeouts when transactions are trying to updatedifferent tables in the database.. Most of the error I get are I/Orequests to the data file (Data file of the production dbAccounting_Data.MDF).I would like to implement the following to this Accounting database.I need to split the Data file into multiple files by placing some ofthe tables in different file groups. I have the server upgraded to beable to have different drives in different channels. I can place thesedata and log files in different drives so it will be less I/Oconflicts..I would like to have the following file groups..FileGroup 1 - which will have all database definitions (DDL).FileGroup 2 - I will have the AR Module tables under here..FileGroup 3 - I will have the GL module tables under here..FileGroup 4 - I will have the rest of the tables under hereFileGroup 5 - I will like to place the indexes under here....Also where will the associated transaction files go?I would like to get some help doing this. Is there any articles / helpavailable that I can refer to. Any suggestions / corrections/criticisms to what I have mentioned above is much appreciated...!Thanks in advance....

Are groups within a list or table forced to be kept on the same page (if possible)? If so, is there any way around this?
My problem is a report with a list with 3 tables inside the list. All tables show details associated with the grouped individual. The size of one list item can be slightly smaller than half a page or over. When the report can not fit two list items on one page, it starts a new page and leaves unwanted white space.
I have tried:
adding a rectangle
adjusting width, margins, etc.
not using lists, only tables nested within tables
to check for page breaks, I adjusted the page size to 8.5 X 20. Same thing occurs, as many lists as possible on one page without splitting between pages. Thanks for any guidance.

I am looking to find out when to use file groups when backing up. When should you use this, what's the benefit over just doing a full db backup? Is it better when you are dealing with large db's?
Also this question has been on my mind for a while. Why shouldn't you shrink the db after every full backup? What is the negative in doing so?
Thanks

Hi everyone,
While creating our database in only one disc(C or D), suppose that we create more than one file group in order to group our data files. However, in this situation; I wonder that whether it brings any benefit or advantage to us.
Also, I wonder that why we always have to put our data file into separate file group if we use separate discs for data files. Is not it allowed to use only one file group even if we use separate dics ?
Would you explain these to me ?
Thanks

We are trying to load flat text files with upwards of 7 million records into a table on SQL. The table has a clustered index on 3 fields. We are sometimes able to complete smaller tables (500,000-750,000 records) and build the indexes prior to importing the data, however when we try the larger tables an error occurs :
Error at Destination for row number 6785496. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1
Location: somerge.c:1573
Expression: mrP->mrStatus!=MERGERUN::NONE
SPID: 11
Process ID: 173
None of the recods end up importing. The row number it gives is always the total number of records that was in the text file I was trying to import. I tried to import the text files first and then build the clustered indexes but a table with only 300,000 records ran for nearly 4 days without completing before we killed it.
Please help me on where to look......:(
Thanks,

I am currently converting some Oracle scripts to SQL Server. Encountered this following code segment in a CREATE TABLE query :
CONSTRAINT ck_PK PRIMARY KEY ( O_ID) USING INDEX TABLESPACE DIRECT PCTFREE 10 STORAGE ( INITIAL 65536)) TABLESPACE DIRECT PCTFREE 10 PCTUSED 40 INITRANS 1 MAXTRANS 255 STORAGE ( INITIAL 65536 MINEXTENTS 1 MAXEXTENTS 2147483645 FREELISTS 1 FREELIST GROUPS 1)
what is the equivalent conversion in SQL Server. Is it just ON PRIMARY in the PRIMARY KEY clause ?? Are the Segments and Extents in Oracle equivalent to Filegroups in SQL Server.
Appreciate your help

Something strange.I have a database(SQL2000) with two file group(on seperate physicaldrives). One is meant for table data[PRIMARY] and one for indexes [INDEX].So i create a table on the [PRIMARY] file group, and fill indata.Next I build a clustered index on the table, on the [INDEX] filegroup.Once the index is built, the database now indicates that the filegroupfor the table [INDEX]! and not [PRIMARY] as i originally set it up for!My question it then: Has the table been moved or is this somehow anerror in SQL server?I would really appreciate any thought anyone might have on this?

Hi,
I have got an xml file with size more than 2 GB. I have to load this file into tables. With 32 bit platform, I am unable to load this file using SSIS. Ram is 8 GB, but it is still bombing out. As I know it uses XML DOM Parser and tries to shred the file in memory and because of memory limition, it fails. Although I have already written code in C# using XmlTextReading object(implemetation of SAX Parser) to load data in tables, but I want to keep this loading process within the limits of DBAs.
I am stuck. Can someone guide me through the situation?
Thanks for your help!

I will be doing some performance testing on financial application nextmonth. Without going into a lot of details, I suspect I will have apotential bottleneck when writing to the log file.My hardware setup is a quad 2.8 Xeon Dell server direct attached to aDELL/EMC CX200 (Fibre channel array with 10 X 30something GB, 15,000rpm drives, with about 1GB of memory on the array for caching. This is a benchmark environment, so I am not concerned about loosingdata. I am looking for a little guidance on using raid (0 or 10)and/or file groups to spread IO to db objects (log file(s), data, indexes, tempdb, etc). I have read about and played with file groupsenough to know that SQL server does some level of load balancingacross file, but am unclear it is in parallel or serialized.Common wisdom seems to be to separate data, non-clustered index, logs, and tempdb onto separate files, but I am unclear on how to make bestuse of the high-speed disk array. I'd greatly appreciate opinions onwhich would perform better; one file on a stripe set of N drives (raid0 or 10), N files in a file group placed on N (non-striped) drives, ora combination of the two? Is the answer the same for both log and data(or index) files?Thanks,-Bernie

I'm having a very irritating time trying to migrate data from a COBOL system to SQL Server.
One of the A/R Master files has approx. 200 columns.
I can export this file any number of ways that will (sometimes) load partially into my database, but always when the load succeeds, columns 75 through N simply contain NULL, even though there is data in the file. When the load fails in DTS, the error is always missing column delimiter. Using BULK INSERT the error is always something like data too long at column 75.
Putting all this together, I have deduced that something isn't working if I try
to load a staging table with more than 74 columns of data. This seems like a way-too-low threshold for a robust database, especially since SQL Server is supposed to be able to handle up to 1,024 columns per table.
Has anyone ever encountered this problem?
Thanks in advance for any help

Hi,
I am having trouble loading tables (within the same data flow) that have a foriegn key relationship defined between them. For instance:
Table A is a parent (one side of the relationship) to Table B (many side of the relationship).
I am trying to load Table A first within the data flow and then Table B after, but I get the following error:
[OCMD EntityRole Insert [2666]] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E2F. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E2F Description: "The statement has been terminated.". An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E2F Description: "The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_EntityRole_Entity". The conflict occurred in database "ODS", table "dbo.Entity", column 'EntityGuid'.".
I am currently using OLE DB commands to perform the inserts, I load table A and move on to then load Table B, I can see the records in Table A before trying to load Table B but for some reason Table B load still fails.
I was thinking maybe this has something to do with the transaction setting or Isolation level but have played with this to no avail (currently everything is the default - supported/serializable). Also, I am thinking maybe because the OLE DB commands are creating two seperate connections (they are using the same connection manager) the second one is unable to see the transactions from the other (first) connection (Table A)?
Is there a way around this without dropping (disabling) forigen keys before the load and adding them back in after? Would like to avoid this?
I would also like to avoid reading the data source multiple times. Everything I need is in the one source so I would like to populate multiple tables from the one source data stream instead of reading the same data 2,3 or 4 times etc.
Seems to me there must be a simple explanation/solution for this but I'm stuck at this point?
P.S.
I was intially using OLE DB destinations (because they are much faster) and was having the same issue, which made sense because the OLE DB destinations do not let you pass the data stream on so I had to multi cast to the destinations so they were loading at the same time. I would rather use the OLE DB destinations so if you have any ideas around how I could do this using those components that would be appreciated too!
Thanks!

I am trying to do here is to load different flat files to different tables:
For example, if the file name starts with "enrollment", then it goes to table "enrollment" table;
if the file name starts with "student", then it goes to "student" table.
For now, I created a foreach loop container for the each different files. So it ended up using several foreach loop containers. I am wondering if there is a way just to use one foreach loop containters to process the loading.
Anyone shed some light on this?? Thank you very much for your help!

I am looking for the easiest way of rebalancing data across multiple files.
Instead of creating a secondary filegroup and then dropping and recreating all indexes in the database which is going to take ages (we have a lot of tables and indexes), I am trying to just add more files to the primary file group and then rebalance data evenly between these.
I guessed that adding the new files to the primary file group and then rebuilding all indexes on a table should redistribute the table over these multiple file groups evenly. This is not the case though. It does rebalance data a bit but I still end up with the majority on the first file that existed.
I have attached the script I am running, maybe it is something in the create database/file statements that is the issue.
Basically what I am seeing is to start off with the table is 160MB. I then add the file groups and rebuild all indexes on the table. The first file is then about 100MB and each of the three other files are about 20MB. I would expect them all to be the same size.

We have recently added a new file group and file on a new drive. We have tested it by moving a small table to the new file group. We would like to relocate a new table to this file group but the table is about (we estimate) 75GB. My question is this: How long can we expect the transfer of data from the current file group to the new one for this table? I understand that depending on our hardware the answer may vary but does anyone have a rough estimate?
The current current (primary) file is located on a DELL SAN and the new secondary group is on a EMC 4700 both are connected via fiber channel.
Also a bonus question would be: Does a "normal" database backup created as a maintenance plan backup the seconary data as well into the BAK file?
Like I said a rough estimate is fine.
Many thanks,
Scott
