I am trying to insert a new record into a sql table and I get the following error message:
Msg 544, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'tbl_MLS_ReportCriteria' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF.
I receive the following error message when I try to use the Bulk Insert Task to load BCP data into a table:
Error: 0xC002F304 at Bulk Insert Task, Bulk Insert Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "Cannot fetch a row from OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)".The OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.The bulk load failed. The column is too long in the data file for row 1, column 4. Verify that the field terminator and row terminator are specified correctly.Bulk load data conversion error (overflow) for row 1, column 1 (rowno).".
Task failed: Bulk Insert Task
In SSMS I am able to issue the following command and the data loads into a TableName table with no error messages: BULK INSERT TableName FROM 'C:DataDbTableName.bcp' WITH (DATAFILETYPE='widenative');
What configuration is required for the Bulk Insert Task in SSIS to make the data load? BTW - the TableName.bcp file is bulk copy file as bcp widenative data type. The properties of the Bulk Insert Task are the following: DataFileType: DTSBulkInsert_DataFileType_WideNative RowTerminator: {CR}{LF}
Any help getting the bcp file to load would be appreciated. Let me know if you require any other information, thanks for all your help. Paul
Hi All, I have a form that inserts information into two tables in sql 2005 database. I have a unique key on the tables preventing duplicate information which works fine. The problem I have is that at the minute if a users tries to insert a duplicate row they just get the built in sql error message. Is there a way I can validate the information before if goes into the database and display perhaps a label telling the user of their error or is there a way I can customize the build in sql error message? I've had a search on various forums and sites and can't find any info that would help me. Thanks in advance Dave
I apprecaite your hlep. I run this code and got an error message ----------------------------------------------------------- select customer_id ,company_name,CITY_AND_STATE, substring (city_and_state,1,CHARINDEX(',',city_and_state,0)-1)as city, substring (city_and_state,CHARINDEX(',',city_and_state,0)+2, 4) as state into validCustomers from customer
This gave me an error: ------------------------------------------------- Server: Msg 536, Level 16, State 3, Line 1 Invalid length parameter passed to the substring function. The statement has been terminated.
I am developing an integration process between two databases. One ofthem is a SQL Server 2000 and the other is using MSDE 2000. Theintegration process is done in C# (VS2003).The main database is the SQL Server, the MSDE will contain a reallysmall subset of the data found on the main. To help diminish the amountof time taken to develop an integration process between thosedatabases, the same structure are found on both side. The onlydifference, when I insert data in the MSDE from the SQL Server, I setthe IDENTITY_INSERT to ON and use the same IDs found on the SQL Server.I can insert one set of data without problem, but from there, if I tryagain, I will always receive the "Cannot insert explicit value foridentity column in table ... when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF." Isaw on Microsoft website the article ID 878501; I noticed I was usingMSDE sp3, I upgraded to SP4... and I still have the problem.I know, when I call the update function on the sqldataadapter, theadapters contain the IDENTITY_INSERT ON and it's set to OFF after theinsert. The "Cannot insert..." error is the only one I received.Can anyone help me on that issue? Take note that this approach wasused because of customer requirements; the size of the database alsocauses some problem (over 200 tables) and we decided to use the samestructure on both side to minimize the support time.

The following function I am trying to design is to INSERT data into a SQL Server 2005 database. It is called from a different function, parse_file();, which is looping through a .CSV file and returning each record as an array to recordInsert();. Here is the function code and SQL syntax
I am receiving the following error when attempting to INSERT into the database.
Code:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The name "YFM700RVL" is not permitted in this context. Valid expressions are constants, constant expressions, and (in some contexts) variables. Column names are not permitted.
I have tried googling the error and since it is a long error, it has been hard trying to find an answer. One solution I found (which wasn't a solution) was to add the '@' infront of the variables. It did not work.
I use SQLExpress2005 and I search about this problem , this is a BUG in MsSql 2000 but I use sql Express 2005.although in my table I set IDENTITY_INSERT on (master Key)Please help me
If a column is set to allow nulls I know that a constraint can be used to supply a default (i.e. GetDate() ) when no value is provided but what about when an explicit NULL is provided in an INSERT or UPDATE statement?Is there any way other then an AFTER trigger to substitute a value for an explicitly provided NULL? In other words, assuming that dtAsof is a NULL enabled column, is there any way to over ride what the following will do to MYTABLE:
If there's no way to do this in SQL Server 2008R2 then what about later versions of SQL Server? Do any more recent versions have a way to deal with this? We have a third party app that uses a SQL Server back end and many of the tables have columns for storing audit like data such as date/time but many are left to NULL values and I'd really like to fix that in as passive a way as possible so as to not break the app that uses the database. I know a constraint with a default can be sued to over ride a null but not when a null is explicitly provided.

Hi all above is aa snipped from the code I am using. all works fine exxept the ------problem line. when i try to run the program, i get an exeption
Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'Clients' when IDENITY_INSERT is set to OFF
how can i turn this on???? I seem to be stuck, vieuwed the msdn video on the subject and cant find what I am doing wrong. I hope u guys can help me out.
And please give me specific guide lines on how to put in the code and code lines. I tried using SET IDENTITY_INSERT Clients ON But than I get all errors bout things not being declared, set not being supported anymore, things like that.
Thanks for the effort you will put into helping me out and becomming a "self supported programmer"
In the SP below, I get the following error when I run it: Explicit value must be specified for identity column in table 'Tests' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to ON.
From what I've read of the INSERT method, it says you can add a variable value. So I don;t understand why it won't take mine.
CREATE PROC qaspAddTestRecord AS
DECLARE @aKey bigint DECLARE @aTestSuiteId bigint
exec qaspGetNewID 'Tests', @aKey OUT
SELECT @aTestSuiteId= NewID FROM ID WHERE TableName='TestSuite'
SET IDENTITY_INSERT Tests ON
INSERT INTO Tests (TestSuiteId, TestIDInternal) VALUES (@aTestSuiteId, @aKey)
I have an File System Task that copies a file from one directory ot another. When I hard code the target directory (c:dirfile.txt) it works fine. When I change it to a virtual directory (\serverdirfile.txt) I get a security error:
[File System Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Access to the path '\gracehbtest oS2TMM_Live_Title_000002.xml' is denied.".
I'm trying to use an XML Task to do a simple XSLT operation, but it fails with this error message:
[XML Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "There are multiple root elements. Line 5, position 2.".
The source XML file validates fine and I've successfully used it as the XML Source in a data flow task to load some SQL Server tables. It has very few line breaks, so the first 5 lines are pretty long: almost 4000 characters, including 34 start-tags, 19 end-tags, and 2 empty element tags. Here's the very beginning of it:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <ESDU releaselevel="2006-02" createdate="26 May 2006"><package id="1" title="_standard" shorttitle="_standard" filename="pk_stan" supplementdate="01/05/2005" supplementlevel="1"><abstract><![CDATA[This package contains the standard ESDU Series.]]></abstract>
There is only 1 ESDU root element and only 1 package element.
Of course, the XSLT stylesheet is also an XML document in its own right. I specify it directly in the XML Task:
My apologies...I wasn't for sure where to post an error like this...
Over the last 2 months I have gotten this SQL Server error (twice). All existing processes will continue to work, however no new processes can be created and users cannot connect to the server. This is the exact text of the message in the SQL Server error log.

Hi, I have developed a website in asp.net 2. I have tester it and it is working fine on my computer but when I have uploaded it to my server I'm getting an error message when the user signup. The error occurs when I'm setting the user role to 'members'.
Error line > Roles.AddUserToRole(user.UserName, "members")
The strage thig is that it is working on my computer but not on the server. My home computer and the server are running the same software versions and the website database is the same as well.
To double check that my code is not generating the error I have lonched 'SQL Query Analizer' and executed the folowing code on my database: NOTE: In my database I have create the user “teeluk12 and a role “members
Trying to connect to remote server croaktoad.simpli.biz I have SQL 2005 Developer on XP SP2 , I have disabled my windows firewall. Can someone please explain this message, I have no idea how to fix it or what the cause is.
I have an c# windows service, which is running on the same machine where my mssql server is installed. This service must be informed for each insert/update/delete event on one specific table.
My idea was to create an CLR Trigger for this table which can communicate with this service via .NET remoting. But the problem is, that the system.runtime.remoting assembly is not integrated within the mssql clr enviroment => i can't use remoting.

Hi,I am trying to write some C# ASP.NET 2.0 code. I have created a web form to send data to my sql server 2005 database. When I compile the application and insert data then click on the submit button I get this error
"A first chance exception of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException' occurred in System.Data.dll" I have been trying to solve this for a few days now with no luck, so any help would be appreciated.
