Error Message When Trying To Create An SQL Connection

Hi,
Just recently I am getting the following error when trying to connect to an SQL DB:
Exception has been thrown by target of an invocation.
This happens even if I create a new website/solution.
Procedure I use:
open server explorer and click on create a new connection
choose SQL server from the list
enter my IP address and credentials, click on test and everything is fine.
When I go to select the DB the dropdown box is empty, if I type in my database name and click on ok I get the following message:
Exception has been thrown by target of an invocation
I know it is nothing to do with SQL or credentials as I can create a datasource to my SQL server using my colleagues computer!
I have removed VS 2005 from my computer and reinstalled only to be met with the same problem.
reinstalling my computer is a last resort!
Any ideas?

I recently installed VB Studio Express 2008, which also installed SQL Server Compact Edition. I was going thro the online tutorial from Microsoft, which tells you to create a connection to the Northwind DB. But, when I tried to connect, I get an error message saying access is not allowed. Note that the is running under Vista Home Premium. I have tried searching for an answer to this question, but have not found an answer that solves my problem. The closest was a similar problem for a C# application running in Internet Explorer, and the answer for that one was to change security settings in IE. But, for this demo, IE was not involved.

Hi
I have a simple FTP task that I am trying to connect to an FTP server. I can test the connection fine, however, when I try and execute the package from Visual Studio 2005 I get the "The Password was not allowed" message. I have found some threads that mention setting the protection level on the package to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword, however, I still get the same message appearing.
Has anyone any idea as to what is causing this and how I can get around it

I'll ask for patience cause am new to this....but I am trying to create a new connection while trying to add a new Data Source in Visual Studios, and I keep getting the error "Login failed for user 'Mohaminho-PCMohaminho'." I have tried several things that my little knowledge knows, but no success.

I have develop any report in reporting services on server Development. i deploy my report to server production.
i have connection to cube as data source. if open report manager in server production and open the report, its succesfully. the report is open. but if i open report manager in server development show error
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create a connection to data source 'PNL'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine
i use windows authentication in my pnl datasource.

Hi,
I have setup SSRS with 3 data models using 3 different datasources on one server. I can create reports ok, but if any of the other users I want to access these reports tries to open the report I created or run there own reports (they can create a report), it gives them the error:
Report Execution Error
Cannot create a connection to the data source 'datasource1'
I do not recieve this error, but the other users do. I have set the other users as System administrator in the site-wide permissions, so they have access to everything.
Everything is set to integrated windows authentication.
On the Reporting Server Configuration Manager, the Unattended Execution Account is not selected and is blank.
What could cause these users not to be able to run existing or new reports they create?

Error: Ole db error 0x80004005 Client unable to establish connection
This happens when trying to create a maintenance plan in sql 2005 sp 1
It has now happend with 3 installs - one fresh install and two upgrades from 2000 to 2005. The startup account for sql server is a domain user account and has not been changed. This happens on both windows 2000 and windows 2003.
This however does not happen if the sql startup account is in the local admin group for the machine
Any help is greatly appreciated

When using jdbc with IntegratedSecurity, I run into this problem when the machine is not part of a domain & gets its IP address via dhcp. Is this expected behavior or a bug in the jdbc driver.
The SQLServer and client application are installed on the same machine and a local admin is logged in, running the client app.
If I change one of the two parameters mentioned above, the connection can be established leading me to believe this may be intentional for security issues. Am I correct?

Hi -
I have an File System Task that copies a file from one directory ot another. When I hard code the target directory (c:dirfile.txt) it works fine. When I change it to a virtual directory (\serverdirfile.txt) I get a security error:
[File System Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Access to the path '\gracehbtest oS2TMM_Live_Title_000002.xml' is denied.".
Where do I change the security settings?

I'm trying to use an XML Task to do a simple XSLT operation, but it fails with this error message:
[XML Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "There are multiple root elements. Line 5, position 2.".
The source XML file validates fine and I've successfully used it as the XML Source in a data flow task to load some SQL Server tables. It has very few line breaks, so the first 5 lines are pretty long: almost 4000 characters, including 34 start-tags, 19 end-tags, and 2 empty element tags. Here's the very beginning of it:

Hi all,
I am trying to create a view with approx. 3000 columns... and got the following error message:
"CREATE VIEW failed because column 'HSEPRIN' in view 'MyTestView' exceeds the maximum of 1024 columns.
Is it mean the max number of columns for each table is 1024? I thought in SQL server the table can contain as much information as possible.
Anyone can help to answer my question?

Hello everybody,I was configuring a SqlDataSource control using SQL Authentication mode.I first added a database file (testdb.mdf) through Solution Explorer-Add New Items. Then through Database Explorer I created a table named "info"Then while configuring the SqlDataSource control I used the SQL Authentication mode and attached the "testdb.mdf" database file.Test Connection showed success. But when I hit the Ok button of the wizard it displayed the following error message:Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance.While configuring the SqlDataSource control I clicked "New Connection". Under Data Source section I tried both Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Database File. And in both the cases I attached a databese file(testdb.mdf). A couple of us are trying to use the SQL Server 2005 Virtual labs at http://msdn.microsoft.com/sql/ . We complete all the prelim steps successfully but when we click on "Start the Lab" we get a blank page with "No Connection" in the middle. The clock ticks and the system thinks we are doing the lab. How can we get a connection? or is the server down? or are there no available resources left?

Hello,
I am unable to send a message to a target service on a different SQL Server instance. Using the SQL Profiler, I get the following error from the target machine:
Broker::Connection: Connection handshake failed: An OS call failed: (80090326) 0x80090326(The message received was unexpected or badly formatted.). State 106.
On the initiator side, the transmission_status shows the following error:
An error occurred while receiving data: '64(The specified network name is no longer available.)'.
Any ideas on why the target thinks the message is "unexpected or badly formatted"? Btw, I am specifying the default message type and contract for the services.

Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. My apologies...I wasn't for sure where to post an error like this...
Over the last 2 months I have gotten this SQL Server error (twice). All existing processes will continue to work, however no new processes can be created and users cannot connect to the server. This is the exact text of the message in the SQL Server error log.
Operating system error 10038: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket...
Error: 17059, Severity: 18, State: 0
Error accepting connection request via Net-Library 'SSNETLIB'. Execution continuing.
Error: 17882, Severity: 18, State:
While we can typically just stop SQL Server Service and restart the services...I have found it is best to restart the machine during non-production times to take care of any 'residual' effects of this error.
The SQL Server 2000 SP4 box with Windows 2003 Standard SP1 is well maintained by our I.T. team and it typically will run 4 or 5 months without a reboot.

Hi, I have developed a website in asp.net 2. I have tester it and it is working fine on my computer but when I have uploaded it to my server I'm getting an error message when the user signup. The error occurs when I'm setting the user role to 'members'.
Error line > Roles.AddUserToRole(user.UserName, "members")
The strage thig is that it is working on my computer but not on the server. My home computer and the server are running the same software versions and the website database is the same as well.
To double check that my code is not generating the error I have lonched 'SQL Query Analizer' and executed the folowing code on my database:
NOTE: In my database I have create the user “teeluk12� and a role “members�
aspnet_UsersInRoles_AddUsersToRoles "/", "teeluk12", "members", "5/02/2006 4:44:33 pm"
Once again the code is working on my home computer but not on the server. On the server I'm getting the following error:
Server: Msg 446, Level 16, State 9, Procedure aspnet_UsersInRoles_AddUsersToRoles, Line 76
Cannot resolve collation conflict for equal to operation.
Does anybody know what could cause the error?
Could it be some permissions that I didn't set on my server?

Trying to connect to remote server croaktoad.simpli.biz
I have SQL 2005 Developer on XP SP2 , I have disabled my windows firewall. I can ping to my server (croaktoad.simpli.biz) and i get no error message. My remote connection using both TCP/IP and named pipes are checkeed. My SQL Server Browser is running as well.
However when I try to connect using Managment Studio or running SQLCMD /Scroaktoad. simpli.biz /E I get the following error message

I am trying to set up a ODBC connection to a remote database using the ODBC data source administrator. I am getting an error message complaining of an invalid instance(). The database I am trying to connect to does have a default instance and a named instance. Do I need to specify the instance name somewhere in the connection settings? I tried specifying the server name as <Remote computer IP Address>/<Instance Name> but this didn't work. Any ideas?

Hi all,
I am trying to run eight SSIS packs from within Integration Services > Stored Packages > File System and seem to get an error like the following on all of them:
"Failed to acquire connection "MyConnection". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.
I can run the packages without error from within VS and from within that location in Integration Services on the machine containing the the databases, but when I attempt to run them remotely I get that error. I am attempting this with full admin access on both machines, but the purpose behind these packages is for our developers to run them on individual databases whenever they need to. So I'm concerned that I may run into further access errors after this, but so far I can't find a reason why this connection would fail. Any ideas?
If I can supply more information please let me know. Thanks in advance for any information!

I am working on SQL Server 2005 (x64) with Windows Server 2003 (x64) operating system. I am having a major issue in SSIS. Here is the detailed explanation of the issue :
I have an EXCEL file in 2003 / 2007 version. It contains some data. I want to import the data using SSIS into SQL Server 2005 (x64) database table. I have taken "EXCEL FILE SOURCE" and "SQL Server DESTINATION". It was failed on importing data. Surprisingly it works fine in SQL Server 2005 (x32). Can you please explain why it is NOT woking on (x64) ?
Here is the error code i am getting:
[Excel Source [1]] Error: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "Excel Connection Manager" failed with error code 0xC0202009.

Hello,
I have a bundling package that runs about 20 other packages. It has been working fine for a while but a couple of days ago it fail with the following message,
Error 0x800706BE while loading package file "D:PackagesToradSales.dtsx". The remote procedure call failed.
I´m running the SSIS packages in an 64-bit environment.

I'm not sure if this is the correct group for this messages, but here it is anyway.
I have a job that has 3 steps to, periodicly the job errors out on Step 1. Following is the message (from Job History).

I have a SQL Express database on our server that is used for one of our websites when the website tries to write to the database I get the following error: -
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file D:lahwebsitesGiants North Walesapp_datadatabase.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
This error is very frustrating and I really can't find a way around it. I have done the following: -
Deleted the SQL Server Express folders under user preferences

Hi,I am trying to write some C# ASP.NET 2.0 code. I have created a web form to send data to my sql server 2005 database. When I compile the application and insert data then click on the submit button I get this error

Hello-
I have the following sql statement which produced an error when I add the order by clause
SQL = "SELECT DISTINCT nc_department.department, Count(nonconformance.department_id) as 'events', ISNULL(SUM(nonconformance.nc_wafer_qty),0) as wafers FROM nc_department LEFT OUTER JOIN nonconformance ON nc_department.department_id = nonconformance.department_id WHERE nc_department.active = '1' GROUP BY nc_department.department ORDER by nc_department.order_id"
This is the error I get:
ORDER BY items must appear in the select list if SELECT DISTINCT is specified.
Any help appreciated
