Error Msg:SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi Is Not A Valid Installer Package
Apr 9, 2007
I have downloaded the msi file for the SQL Server Management Studio Express. However, clicking the msi file, showed a Windows Installer error msg that the installer package can not be opened because it is not a valid installer pckage.
Previously, I did download and install the SQL Server 2005 Express successfully. We need Management Studio Express in order to run the 'Enterprise manager'. Am I right?
i have created one package in production server called User_Import,It will fetch the info from excel file to the Sql  table, I have executed this package in ssis console successfully,But i have to schedule one job using this package on daily basis for that i have created on sql job using this package, Then it is failing i dont know the exact problem,I have full access to my database and full access to the sql agent to exuete any jobs,I have sharing the error message which am getting in the sql agent level, Please find the error msg:

I've a doubt regarding deploying and creating package (MSI and EXE files) for SQL Stored procedures, views, tables, functions, triggers etc.,just like ASP.NET application by publishing and deploying..Is it possible in the same way for sql objects. If so,pls help me how to do it?
I have one application through which i m installing SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
If some failure occures, all I get is one exitCode which is a return code of SQL Express installer. Is there any way by which I can find out the exact reason of failure.
One example is error code 28062.
This error code is for "sql is unable to install on compressed folder / drive".
I cannot go backward or forward on installing SQL Server 2005. Do not have programs installed, but setup disk claims it is already installed. Tried running Windows installer CleanUp and got the following error message when trying to install Run Time error -2147024882 System Error &H80004005
I have a package with 10 synchronous dataflows, which, combined, load about 300MB of flat file data to a database. This package would run successfully on 2 of our database servers, but would regularly fail on a third. The server on which it was failing is a 4 processor box with 16GB Ram with Windows Server 2003, SQL 2005, SSIS and SSRS installed - much more robust than one of the others that the package worked on. The SSIS error messages returned alternated between the following (with no apparent reason why one would show up rather than another, though the first was the most common):
"The file name "\Server1Folder1File1.txt" specified in the connection was not valid."
"The file name property is not valid. The file name is a device or contains invalid characters."
"An error occurred while initializing the flat file parser."
For the first error message, the error would report different connection managers and their associated file as invalid from run to run. All of the files across the 10 dataflows resided in the same network folder, and the package would read in and process a few of them before failing, so the problem was definitely not the connection string.
Searching the forums, etc. for these errors provided no useful information - given the real cause of the problem, these error messages are worse than unhelpful, they send you looking in the wrong direction. It was only when trying to track down another problem on the same server that I discovered the issue. When trying to copy database backups greater than 12GB over the network to this server, the operation would fail with an "Insufficient System Resources" message.
Some research led to the discovery that problem was caused by the /3GB switch in the boot.ini file of the server (don't let your Server team use that switch if you have 16GB of memory or more). Removing the switch and setting SQL to utilize AWE, fixed both the file copy problem AND the SSIS package failure problem. The SSIS package failed, not due to a bad connection string, but rather to insufficient server resources (read memory) to handle the simultaneous connections.
I hope this may help any others trying to track down this kind of SSIS package failure.
I will also provide here what I have gleaned about setting up Memory usage for SQL Server 2005 running on 32 bit Windows Server 2003 (with the caveat that I am no expert €“ corrections and additional information are welcome).
The following links got me started in my research (thanks to the folks who provided such useful information): http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=55191 http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-6091280.html http://www.simple-talk.com/community/blogs/brian_donahue/archive/2007/09/30/37747.aspx http://blogs.technet.com/askperf/archive/2007/03/23/memory-management-demystifying-3gb.aspx http://www.modhul.com/2007/11/10/optimising-system-memory-for-sql-server-part-i/
Also, search BOL for: Server Memory Options Enabling Memory Support for Over 4 GB of Physical Memory Enabling AWE Memory for SQL Server
Windows Server 2003 provides access to 4GB of virtual address space. By default, 2GB is assigned to the OS and 2GB to applications. This default can be change to 1GB for the OS and 3GB for applications by the use of the /3GB switch in the boot.ini file.
Physical memory over 4GB can be addressed by enabling Physical Addressing Extensions (PAE), which is done by setting the /PAE switch in the boot.ini file. This does not increase the systems virtual address space, rather it increases the size of the page table (which is maintained within the virtual address space), adding entries to reference the physical memory above 4GB.
It is important to note that these two switches are not interdependent (they do different things and you can turn each on or off regardless of the others status), though the combination of them has an impact on server performance and the maximum amount of physical memory which can be addressed.
The /3GB switch only impacts the allocation of the first 4GB of memory (virtual address space) between the OS and applications (default 50/50 % split, with switch on - 25% OS and 75% applications). The /PAE switch enables the system to reference/manage physical memory above 4GB, but does not alter the allocation percentages of the first 4GB of memory between the OS and applications. However, when PAE is enabled, the OS requires more memory within the first 4GB to manage the physical memory above 4GB (due to increased page table entries). With the /3GB switch, the OS has only 1GB of virtual address space, and only enough space to manage a total of 16GB of physical memory. If 32GB of physical memory is installed, 16GB of it will go to waste.
Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) is an API that allows an application to address more than the 2-3GB of memory that is available to applications within the virtual address space (first 4GB of memory). SQL Server can utilize AWE to take advantage of memory above the first 4GB that is made available via PAE, and can even reserve portions for its own use. I believe (though I can€™t remember where I got this bit) that SQL utilizes AWE memory only for the page cache (buffer pool €“ which seems to be a misnomer), and not for other operations.
To enable AWE, see the BOL references above.
The big question: what are the recommended settings for all of these? That all depends on what you have running on the server. You need to leave space for the OS, SQL Server and any other applications you have.
The hard and fast rules: If you have more than 4GB of RAM, you must use the /PAE switch in order to take advantage of it. If you have more than 16GB of RAM, you must NOT use the /3GB switch in order to take advantage of it.
Based on anecdotal evidence, I€™ve noticed the following generally recommended guidelines €“ assuming the server is dedicated to SQL.
Use of the /3GB switch seems to be a generally accepted practice if you have 8GB of RAM or less. For between 8 and 16GB, some say never use the /3GB switch, others say you can use it up to 12GB and still others up to 16GB. I interpret this to mean that it all depends on what types of loads are being placed on the server and that testing on individual servers will be required to determine whether or not to use the switch. Certainly that was my experience - the /3GB switch worked fine with 16GB RAM, until the server encountered a certain workload. For me, no more /3GB switch.
For setting SQL to use AWE, most seem to agree that it should be enabled if you have more than 4GB RAM. The setting of max server memory is more complicated. BOL seems to suggest (the €˜Server Memory Options€™ entry) a formula of Total Physical Memory minus 1-2GB for the operating system. Based on a desire to be a bit more conservative, I am now using the following formula:
max server memory = total physical memory
minus
4GB for the OS and application processes (since the AWE memory is utilized for page cache, not SQL processes)
minus
AWE memory required by other applications, including other instance of SQL Server
If anyone has additional insight, or a more refined equation, I could certainly benefit from it.
Here's my code: Dim Cmd as New SQLCommand(sqlString, conn) cmd.CommandType=CommandType.StoredProcedure Breaks Here ----->>cmd.parameters.add(New SQLParameter(@OrdAlias, OrdNum)) cmd.parameters.add(New SQLParameter(@AliasSourceCode, 4))The error says:compilation error - - then, on the line that is in red:Compiler Error Message: BC30037: Character is not valid.I have 'OrdNum' declared globally, and OrdNum is assigned right away in the Page_Load event. I have been having a problem trying to connect to a SQL Server. I have installed the Developer edition on an MS Small Business edition 2003 server I also installed MS Sql Manager and I was able to create a database and connect to it. The database server is in the same PC. I used the surface configuration to enable remote connections using TCP /IP and pipe lines. My application runs without a problem on my development machine but when I deployed on this server I get the provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid Error. this is my config file setup <connectionStrings> <add name="Diamond_dbConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=192.168.1.104MSSQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=Diamond_db;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> I have google and yahoo this error I found a lot of information I've tried many of them but still having the problem. I have installed SQL Server 2005 Developer edition. When I open SQL Server Management Studio, and try to connect to the database engine, I enter these credentials:Server name: LT2000MSSQLSERVERLogin: saPassword: my passwordWhen I try to connect I receive the following error:An error has occured while trying to establish a connection to the server. I want to set a Report Parameter on a field. The Report Parameter is called 'filter'. In the statement I put the Report Parameter in the WHERE-part: WHERE ([DatabaseName$TableName].[FieldName] = @filter). After this I set the 'Available values' on the Report Parameter in the lay-out to Non-queried. When the report is running, no problems.
But.....
Now I want to set 'Available values' on 'From Query' and refer to the data set, so the user can choose on which value he want to filter. But now, after running the preview the following error displays: Error 1 [rsInvalidReportParameterDependency] The report parameter €˜filter€™ has a DefaultValue or a ValidValue that depends on the report parameter €œfilter€?. Forward dependencies are not valid.
Why can't I set the Report Parameter to 'From Query'? Anyone any suggestions???

Hi all, I have a problem is that I cannot perform the transacional replication from one server (ms-sql2k) to other server (mssqlserver).
The error show below : Log Reader Agent - Is not a valid win32 application.
I try to setup another server (mssql2k) to do the same thing, there is no error appeared. Therefore, I have doubt that the name of the computer using "-" will have problem. Or the registry of (ms-sql2k) may have problem because it had wrongly installed personal edition and re-installed the standard verions afterwards.

I have a stored procedure that works when executed in query analyzer. (It is also way too long to post here) When called from my application ado.net returns the error:
Invalid object name #idTable
If I run the proc in query analyzer using the same parameters (copied from quickwatch while debugging) there is no error.
While very complicated, this procedure runs quickly so timing out is not an issue.
Does anyone know why a proc would run in query analyzer and not in an asp.net/c# application?
I have created a very simple report that works correctly when in Report Designer Preview mode. When I deploy to the report server it reports that deployment was successful. When I log into Report Manager the report is visible, but when I click on it I end up at an error page.
The error that I get is: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.
I have subscriptions that fail because someone's email is no longer valid, where is this error information stored so I can fix the problem? I have a large list and it is hard to do manually. I will be using data driven solutions, but these are existing subscriptions that need to be ran.

I am trying to create a simple application where I want to synchronize data between Pocket PC application's ( Emulator) local database(SQL Mobile) to SQL 2005 Database. I have tried the steps outlined in the following link
Once I have completed all the steps as per the steps in the above link, I have copied the .sdf file to an another machine where I have the development environment. I have created a device application in VS 2005 and created a datasource poiting to the file (.sdf) copied locally.
Then I have added the following code string filename = @"e:VelsunMobileTest.sdf";
if (VelsunMobileTestDataSetUtil.DesignerUtil.IsRunTime()) { // TODO: Delete this line of code to remove the default AutoFill for 'velsunMobileTestDataSet.Customers'. this.customersTableAdapter.Fill(this.velsunMobileTestDataSet.Customers); }
}

I fixed the immediate problem by running a copy-only full backup on the primary, deleting the database on the secondary and restoring the new backup on the secondary with NORECOVERY. The restore job now succeeds and all seems fine. The secondaries only exists for DR purposes - no one runs reports against them or uses them at all. I had a similar problem last weekend on a different database that is also replicated between the same servers. I've been here for over a year, and these are the first instances of this problem that I've seen. However, I've now seen it twice in a week on the same server.
I then try to run the same app from the client computer, it gives me:

After looking up the web for solution, I found that I can test the connection from the HOST computer in this way:
C:Documents and Settingskit>sqlcmd -E -S laptopsqlexpress 1> 2>
The test is successful
Now I run the same command on the CLIENT computer

Now I can sure that from the client computer it cannot make a connection to it, then I look at the errorLog from my host computer
2006-08-13 21:41:00.34 Logon Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11. 2006-08-13 21:41:00.34 Logon Login failed for user 'LAPTOPGuest'. Valid login but server access failure
It tells the connection string and SQL Express seem to be set up properly but the server access failed the remote connection
I have previously had SQL Server 2000 installed. I uninstalled SQL 2000 before I install SQL express but somehow the SQL Server Service Manager is still running at startup, and C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server80 and its files are still exist after uninstallation..... Could this be a problem?
The Knowledge base suggestion on "enabling remote connection" is very simple and I do not understand why it is so difficult to me just to make a remote connection test work..... please, I need your help.
Recently, one of my clients began receiving this error. My team gave them sysadmin permissions, but this is terrible practice. I have read into disablying simple file sharing, but I don't even think I have the option to do it. I look in mycomputer > tools > view and don't see any option for this. Besides, the problem just started occuring recently, within the last week. The server is a cluster with veritas clustering and the edition is sql server 2000. Has anybody ever had a problem like this and have a good fix? Thanks for any help in advance... -Kyle
I've successfully installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on an Enterprise edition of Windows Server 2003 x64. I'm now (and also tried & failed during the install of the database engine) attempting to install the "Management Tools" component on the same server. However, in all my attempts to do so, I receive the following error:
---
The feature(s) specified are not valid for this edition of SQL Server
---
The message box does not list the features that are not valid but since the only item I've selected to install is the "Management Tools" option under "Client Components" it obviously points to something with that.
Am I missing something or are the Management Tools not supported in my config - most notably SQL Server 2005 Standard edition running on Windows Server 2003 x64?

I am trying to create a column chart that calculates the percentage of computers in our IT environment that are Actively communicating to our SCCM Server.
I have two datasets:
1. Total_Count_Of_AD_PC DataSet.
2. PC_With_Active_SCCM_Clients dataset.
Basically i wan to calculate the percentage for each Region (i.e. AP for Asia Pacific, EMEA, Americas).
Below is the Total_Count_Of_AD_PC  Dataset screenshot.
Below is the PC_With_Active_SCCM_Clients dataset.
Below is the expression that i used that is causing the error.
The Y expression for the chart ‘Chart2’ has a scope parameter that is not valid for an aggregate function. The scope parameter must be set to a string constant that is equal to either the name of a containing group, the name of a containing data region, or the name of a dataset.
