Error Occurring In ExecuteSQL Task In OnPreExecute (and In OnPostExecute) But Package Not Failing
Jun 5, 2006
When any of
my tasks or script tasks in my control flow, or data flow, have an
error, the entire package, and then the calling package fail, as far as
I've seen, through some CTP versions, beta versions, and the release
version of SQL Server 2005.
But, I've just made a change, in an
sproc called from an ExecuteSQL Task in a PreExecute event attached to
a DataFlow, and that ExecuteSQL Task is reporting an error in the
output window, but the package execution is not being stopped. Why not?
I see something like so
Error: 0xC002F309 at MyExecuteSqlTaskName, Execute SQL Task: ....
Task failed: MyExecuteSqlTaskName
Warning:
0x80019002 at OnPreExecute: The Execution method succeeded, but the
number of errors raised (1) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting
in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number
specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the
errors.
repeated many times in the output stream, and the same thing for the PostExecute event attached to the same object.
I'm disappointed, because I want errors propagated upwards, as I'm used to.
I
looked, and as far as I can tell, all my ExecuteSQL tasks (in events
and in the regular control flow) have the default settings of
FailPackageOnFailure: False
FailParentOnFailure: False
MaxErrorCount: 1
Do
I have to go revise these settings on every ExecuteSQL Task in every
event handler in every SSIS package? (That will be exceedingly
tedious.) Do I set these on the ExecuteSQL task inside the event? Do I
set these on the event handler itself?

This is strange... just started getting this today, while it's worked for weeks. But alas, that is programming.
The error I'm getting is
[Connection manager "FTP DQ Connection"] Error: An error occurred in the requested FTP operation. Detailed error description: 200 Type set to I. 200 Command okay. 550 /usfsr/DFE_INPUT/FATest_DQ.txt: No such file or folder. .
I'm uploading a file (FATest_DQ.txt) to the folder /usfsr/DFE_INPUT/. I eventually just uploaded the file manually using IE6 to make sure the connection properties were still the same.
Any ideas?

The purpose of the Package is to load an SQL table with data from text files in a subdirectory. The parameter is parsed from the text filenames. It is a zipcode.
I have an ExecuteSQL task inside a ForEach container. The SQL in the task is:
IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM dbo.ZipCodeRadius
WHERE CenterPostalCode = ?1)
BEGIN
DELETE FROM dbo.ZipCodeRadius
WHERE CenterPostalCode = ?1
END
I also have a Data Flow task in this container which populates the ZipCodeRadius table. The same parameter is also passed to the Data Flow task which specifies a zipcode to delete and afterward load.
I am using Windows authetication for the package.
What am I doing wrong?

I have a DTS package in SQL Server 2000 that has a Send Mail task to shoot me an email when it completes. When I tested this manually it ran fine however when it runs as a scheduled job in the SQL Agent the Send Mail task fails.
Prior to being able to send emails I installed Outlook so I could build a MAPI profile. With the MAPI profile there I am able to create and at least manually test a Send Mail task. From experience I believe this issue arises due to the fact that when I'm logged in Outlook is running but when I'm logged out of the Server, it is not running and so the task fails.

I setup my ExecuteSQL task to have a "Single Row" resultset. The query returns no rows. It fails. I don't think it should but then maybe this is consistent with the lookup transform piping rows down the error output if there is not a lookup value returned.

Am I looking at a potential bug here or do I not understand the feature properly? I have an ExecuteSQL task that inserts into a table for logging and includes the System::PackageID as one of the values. It's stored in my table as a uniqueidentifier. When I set the output variable in Parameter Mappings tab of the Execute SQL task to VarChar, all works great. WHen I set it to GUID as the data type in that tab, it outputs a different GUID than the actual System::PackageID variable.

The ExecuteSQL task makes it easy to capture the resultset of a query or stored proc in a variable. But what about the messages that would normally appear in the Messages tab when running queries in Management Studio or Query Analyzer? There must be a way to display and log rowcounts and other messages that a query normally produces.
Various package/task logging configrations haven't helped. I've read discussions about logging rowcounts in data flow tasks, but what about capturing messages in ExecuteSQL and other control flow tasks that run T-SQL?
I only have enough time to dabble in this technology so I may be missing something obvious or approaching this incorrectly. Any suggestion, reference, constructive criticism or reponse would be appreciated.

I'm running SQL Server 7.0 SP3 and having trouble with DTS.
I have an Execute SQL Task that runs several stored procedures. When one of the stored procedures fails, the Execute SQL Task just terminates without failing.
I found a knowledge base article (Q238523) dealing with this situation but it was supposedly fixed in SP2 - I have SP3! The other work around suggested, issuing a SET NOCOUNT ON, does not always work.
Has anyone else run into this or have any other suggestions.
I hate the thought of spending days doing another work around in order get basic DTS functionalty to work as it should!
Thanks!

I have a package that fails as soon as it hits the first Data Flow that contains a Derived Column task. The task takes three date columns and looks for a date of 6/6/2079. If it is there, it is replaced with a NULL. This task worked fine until I installed the Non-CTP version of SQL 2005 SP1, earlier today. (I went from RTM 9.0.1399 to SP1 9.0.2047)Does anyone have any ideas?
Here is the error I am trapping:
An error occurred while evaluating the function.
The "component "Update Max Date Value to NULL" (346)" failed because error code 0xC0049067 occurred, and the error row disposition on "input column "WeekEndingDate" (455)" specifies failure on error. An error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.
The ProcessInput method on component "Update Max Date Value to NULL" (346) failed with error code 0xC0209029. The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running.
Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0209029.
I tried to configure the error output to ignore the failure. The task succeeded. It did not insert anything, however, for the three columns in question. It then failed on the next Data Flow that contained a Derived Column task. I tried to pre-populate the columns with a default date, but no go. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I am using the SMTP Task to send an email to about 200 individuals with their own specific attachment. If it cannot find the attachment the SMTP Task fails.
Is there a way to log the failure and have it keep going? That way it will still process everyone, but I would get a list of those who didn't receive the email because there was a problem.
I looked at Jamie Thompson's blog and he had a great script to send out emails. But if I use that, I haven't yet figured out how to pass the filename variable to it and attach the file. Even if I use that script, how do I deal with the errors?
Thank you for the help.

While Creating a script task in Control Flow, I am getting "Package Validation Error". Here is the complete message:
Error at Validate File and Load Data: The task is configured to pre-compile the script, but binary code is not found. Please visit the IDE in Script Task Editor by clicking Design Script button to cause binary code to be generated.
(Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration)
As mentioned in the message, I opened the script IDE and added the code I need. When I close the VSA IDE, package designer displays the same error message.
The worst part of whole story is that if I close the package designer and reopen it, I find that all the code I wrote in the script task has been deleted by the package designer. This is not at all acceptable as I saved the package the and still lost all my work. I did all the coding from scratch for that task.
Please respond if anyone faced similar problem.
Thanks in advance!
Anand
PS: If any one from Microsoft is reading this, please see what you guys are coding there. Due to the buggy software you deliver, I am loosing my credibility.<P< P>

I am having problems executing a child package from a parent package using the Execute Package Task. I am attempting to run the master package through a SQL Server Agent job.
The SQL Server Agent job is owned by sa. The step that runs the parent package is configured to load the package from the SSIS Package Store on the same server that the job is running.
I have the Execute Package Task configured as follows:
Location: SQL Server
ExecuteOutOfProcess: True
Connecting as a SQL Server login (let's say TestEtl)
I have added the db_dtsoperator database role to both the TestEtl login and the login that SQL Server Agent connects through. I have also configured the child package's reader role to include db_dtsoperator. Per http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms141053.aspx, this should allow these logins to run the child package.
I have enabled logging of all events in both the parent and child packages. I see the following in the logs when the Execute Package Task executes (omitted portions unrelated to the execution of the child package task):

I had created a CLR function in my db and was able to execute it successfully a couple of months ago. But when I tried to execute it today it was throwing errors saying there was something wrong with the permissions on the assembly. So I decided to drop everything and recreate it except I can not longer create the assembly with EXTERNAL ACCESS permissions. Whenever I try to create the assembly I get the followng error:
Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0
A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.
Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0
A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.
I also tried to create the assembly with Unsafe permissions and got the same error. Does anyone know why this error would be occurring now? I tried creating the same assembly on a different SQL 2005 server and it creates successfully and can be executed successfully. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!

I located a post suggesting to add an mmc certificate but that did not seem to help.
I'm sort of assuming that if it was id/passwd related i'd get a more specific error..
Any info would be much appreciated...Thx Owen

Hi All,
I have strange problem. I have a package task that is setup to run a package from a file source. The package ran fine originally but VS placed a shared drive letter for the path. I went back to change it to a UNC path and now the package fails and gives an error saying the connection is not valid and that it failed validation. Going back into the connection manager to check the path and it looks good, even pressing the Browse button shows the correct directory.
What am I doing wrong?

I have a main package that calls several other packages using Execute Package Tasks. I also have OnPreExecute, OnPostExecute, and OnError event handlers at the package level to audit the beginning and completion of each package. I want to prevent each task from bubbling up to the package event handlers as well as prevent each task from bubbling up to the main package event handlers. I've tried setting the Propagate variable for each of the event handlers to False and setting the DisableEventHandlers property of each task to True but neither solution seems to work. Is there a way to do this that I'm missing?

Hello all,
I am running a package on a 64-bit server using the 32-bit dtexec. It contains an embedded Execute DTS 2000 package. I deployed the package to the server using the sa account. I set up a SQL Agent job that runs under an account that should have complete admin privileges. The network guys tell me that Legacy components have been installed (although I believe that shouldn't be necessary because SSIS is installed). This is SQL Server 2005, SP2.
When I execute this job, I receive this error message:

Jessica

I have an SSIS package which calls two other SSIS packages as part of it's control flow (using the Execute Package task). Both packages are stored in the same parent folder on the same server. The first child package runs successfully, the second does not. It ran fine for days until yesterday. Not sure what I might have done. I have tried to delay validation and recreate the connection. No go. Has anyone else run into this. I am running SQL 2005 RTM and VS 2005 RTM on XP Pro SP2. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Is it possible to only handle the outter-most event? For example, I have an email that goes out in response to OnPreExecute and OnPostExecute, but I only want it to go out once, instead of for every tasks/object.
Thanks,
Rick

Hi, this is my first post and I'm relatively new to SSIS so please go easy on me.
Without going into too much detail about it, I've set up a simple SSIS package which does this in a nutshell:
Foreach loop picks up all *.xls files in a given folder
1 - Puts the name of the current spreadsheet into a variable
2 - File System Task copies the current spreadsheet ("abc.xls") to a file called "work.xls"
3 - Data Flow task performs data extraction on "work.xls" and puts it into a SQL server database
4 - File System Task moves "abc.xls" into a "success" folder
Continues with loop - move onto next spreadsheet
This works fine, so long as the spreadsheets all have the same number of columns.
As soon as one of them has a column missing (believe me, this will happen - we're dealing with users here) the package falls over at step 3.
When the package comes across an erroneous spreadsheet, what I'd like to do is move the offending file to a failure folder (making step 4 either a success or failure file move) and carry on with the next one.
I know that you can have an error path (the red line) from any step within the dataflow task, but this doesn't help me because the error lies in the structure of the spreadsheet and not the contents.
I've already come up with a work around whereby each file is moved into the failures folder just after step 2, then moved from the failures folder into the success folder at step 4.
This almost gives me what I want, although of course the package still falls over whenever it encounters a dodgy looking spreadsheet.
Is there any way that I can get the package to do what I'm after?
Many thanks,
Simon

I have a "Execute DTS Package 2000 " task in SSIS. The SQL 2000 DTS has one task which precedence is "completion". Using SQL2000 it works properly, but when I invoke it from SSIS it doesn€™t respect the precedence. So, when the task above fails it ends the DTS execution.
Is it possible to configure the task to respect the precedences?
