Hi,
I am having problems running my import query. It runs to a point, then the next block of SQL it fails on, does anyone know why this is? I have included the code and the error message underneath. The import is ran using SQLwebadmin

Hi,
I have zero experience running any databases that spread further than 1 machine, so I have a few theory questions here that hopefully someone can help with. Hopefully this is the right forum, I'm not sure if it classifies as 'clustering'.
Anyways, we are launching a web app that is going to start with just 1 webserver/db server. For speed reasons, after some growth we might have to have a load balanced setup with a webserver in europe and one in north america. Basically the webservers are going to be serving 100,000's of files and each time a file is served it needs to be recorded in the database.
I think that if I'm connecting my european webserver across the internet to my db server, thats killing the purpose of having a webserver in europe to make for faster responses.
I am thinking that this european web server/db serving is only going to be logging the files served. Is there a way to import them into north american database everynight ?
I'm not sure what the best approach would be for something like this, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much,
mike123

I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.
I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.
Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:
- Prepare for Execute (Error)

There does not seem to be any method of specifying a number of sessions, so I don't see how to get round the problem.
Does anyone know how I can get the import to work?

Hello All,
I am a newbe at MS SQL 2005, so if this has already been answered elsewhere, please just point me in the right direction.
I have successfully used the Import/Export wizard in "execute immediate" mode to import a table from Oracle 10g to MS SQL 2005. Works like a charm, but when I take the saved pacakge (saved as a *.dtsx server side file) - with no changes to the package and execute it from the either the "dos" prompt or from Windows explorer it fails at the login to Oracle step. Yet when I check the package's "Connection Managers" source connection, all the settings, user-ids and passwords look fine. The package does indeed execute, but I receive an ORA-01017:invalid username/password within the trace file of the package, but nothing has been changed from the Import/Export wizard which ran beatifully, thus verifying the appropriate acccess rights to Oracle.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
We are planning to upgrage our SS 2000 databases(couple of hundreds) to SS 2005.
To minimise the potential work arounds, it is agreed to have complex databases, continue running on compatibility mode 80. What are the potential impact of having database on mode 80(apart from not being able to use new feature)on SS2005?
Fruther how we can we import SS 2000 DTSs to SS 2005 SSIS in an cluster environment?
Thanks,
Sajish

Hi all,
when trying to ímport files to our database server from a client, I keep getting an error:
- Validating (Error)
Messages
Error 0xc00470fe: Data Flow Task: The product level is insufficient for component "Source_txt" (1).

Error 0xc00470fe: Data Flow Task: The product level is insufficient for component "Data Conversion 1" (175).
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
... doing the same import when logged on the server, hasn't been giving me any errors, how come. I can from my client without trouble import tables from other DB servers but when ever it is files it won't do it.
I tried as mentioned in other threads rerun setup to re-install SSIS, but as it was already installed it wouldn't re-install. My next move would be to make a clean install, but not sure it would help, as I think this is a buck.
best regards

Where is a package visible when running the Data Import/Export wizard, choosing to save a package, and choosing "SQL Server" as the location? When I make an SSIS connection in Management Studio I do not see the package under the "MSDB" node.

Hey...
I am running a parent SSIS package (running sp2, 9.0.3042) that calls several child packages.
On our development server, we now cannot run this because we get 1 or more of these errors:
"Error 0x80004003 while preparing to load the package. Invalid pointer . "
"Error 0xC0011008 while preparing to load the package. Error loading from XML. No further detailed error information can be specified for this problem because no Events object was passed where detailed error information can be stored. . "
It is not occuring on the same packages. It varies every time it is run.
I can run every one of the child packages individually, using the same login ID that the parent is executed under.
The parent package works fine on my local machine and other servers running the same version of SSIS. Just not on this server.
Does anyone have any ideas???
Thanks

Hi there
I have small problem with the ADO 2.6 - 2.8 Command object.
I created a Stored procedure preforming some tasks within a tran.
whitin the tran i'm collecting the @@ERROR values and in the end (after tran closing )generating the correct error string - which will be send back to the caller
in the VB6 app, i'm using a command object with the next line:
Set MyRecordset= MyCommand.Execute
In all the cases and option, when i run the SP - the command preform the tasks and return closed recordset (with the currect answer) and i can't read it.
the only solution that worked until now: i need to call MyRecordset.Open which will requery the SP again and generate an error (User defined error).
It happens only when i run command.execute with SP that preforms multitasks and return result recordset.
CAN ANY ONE HELP ME

I downloaded the code example "Running Stored Procedures with ASP.NET" (http://www.dotnetjunkies.com/Tutorial/9AE62C44-3841-4687-B906-2F6D4A5A4622.dcik)
and I'm having trouble filtering the sp's that are populating the drop down box. Here's my code: (all I did was add the one parameter)
Dim ds As New DataSet
Dim conn As New SqlConnection( _
Data source=" & DatabaseServer.Text & _
";User id=" & Userid.text & _
";Password=" & Password.Text & _
";Initial catalog=" & Database.Text)
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("sp_stored_procedures", conn)
Dim adpt As New SqlDataAdapter(cmd)
Try
cmd.Parameters.Add("@sp_name", SqlDbType.NVarchar, 390).Value = CType("my%", String)
so if I comment out the cmd.Parameters.Add ... line it all works fine and I get every sp, but if I uncomment it I get " Incorrect syntax near 'sp_stored_procedures'" every time no matter what i put in the string.
I have a feeling I'm doing something stupid :) Anyone have any ideas? The query works fine in query analyzer with the same arguments that I'm trying in the code.

Hi all,
I m getting the following error while running the bcp utility.
Cannot insert null into column_name in table
something like this.
The value for that column is null in the input .csv file.
Instead of throwing error like this, i need those bad records should go in to the .BAD file and the remaining records should get uploaded into the database.
In my case the entire data upload is failing if any one bad record is there in the .csv file.
Can anybody help me. Its a bit urgent.

The deleting of the rows works but the import from the Dbase doens't, I thought it was a security issue. So I made sure the JobAgent has all the rights it needs to access the directory of the Dbase file.
Any clues?

I have created a DTS to import some data into a table. It is importing a tab delimited text file and I am getting an error when importing into a decimal field.
I have imported the data into a table with all the fields as varchar. The reason that I am getting this error is that the column that is giving me the errors is trying to populate the cells with a " " when there is no information!
Is there anything that I can do in order to treat that as a null?

Books Online Help on Error 823 indicates that it is a disk problem and suggests that DBCC checkdb needs to be run on the database. But, hardware diagnostics on the server do not report any disk problems and dbcc checkdb also returns no errors.
Help on the cause of error 823 would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Praveena
