Error Setting Up Distribution On SQL 2005 SP2
Mar 6, 2007
I am attempting to set up Distribution on SQL 2005 using the wizard.
All goes well until the actual script fires off... this line:
use master
exec sp_adddistributor @distributor = N'NAVSOLDEVSQLSERVER2005', @password = N''
GO
Causes this error:
Msg 22538, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_MSrepl_check_job_access, Line 155
Only replication jobs or job schedules can be added, modified, dropped or viewed through replication stored procedures.
The rest of the script fails due to this line... Now, I am fair at SQL, but I am no DBA. I did some searching and found one post that seemed to have the same problem, and the gentleman solved it himself, but did not explain how lol.
Any help greatly appreciated!

I'm getting this, after upgrading from 2000 to 2005.Replication-Replication Distribution Subsystem: agent (null) failed. The subscription to publication '(null)' has expired or does notexist. The only suggestions I've seen are to dump all subscriptions. Sincewe have several dozen publications to several servers, is there adecent way to script it all out, if that's the only suggestion? Thanks in advance.

On SQL Server 2005 SP2 for Publisher and Distributor on the same instance, my old snapshots are not being cleaned up.
The following error is in the agent history:
Executed as user: DomainMyUser. Could not remove directory '\vmsql01ReplDatauncPublication_TRANSACTIONAL20070702104416'. Check the security context of xp_cmdshell and close other processes that may be accessing the directory. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 20015). The step failed.
xp_cmdshell is enabled and I can run commands like :
exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell ' md c:TestFolder'
The permissions to the snapshot share and file system are that DomainMyUser has full control.
I have logged into the machine as this user and can remove snapshots so it does not seem to be a permission issue.
On other machines I do not get any errors but the snapshot folder still is not cleaned up.
Any suggestion as to what the problem could be?
Thanks,
Amy

I've just installed a replication between 2 NT4 servers with SQL 6.5. A task with a 'distribution' type, owner = repl_subscriber, has started on the subscriber side but crashes with an error code S0001 : "There is already an object named 'Customer' in the database". 'Customer' is one of the tables that I want to replicate. Why do I get this error? And how to correct it? Thanks.

I've got three files (sql 2005 std edition x64) that were downloaded from the volume license software distribution download site. One appears to be the SP2 (SW_CD_NTRL_SQL_Svr_2005SP2_64Bit_X64_English_1_X13-36347.EXE). But the other two I can't figure out how to handle. I've unzipped them both (SW_CD_SQL_Svr_Standard_Edtn_2005_64Bit_X64_English_1_x64_MLF_X11-57664.EXE SW_CD_SQL_Svr_Standard_Edtn_2005_64Bit_X64_English_2_x64_MLF_X11-57665.EXE) and they appear to have differences in what they contain, BUT there are no instructions on how to proceed with the install. I'm guessing one of them is the 32 bit versions of the management tools that still run in 32 bit mode and the other is the server. The readme's in both are the same. There are no directions on what to do or how to proceed with the installation. I've started both installs just to get far enough to see that they both want to install prerequisite software but neither tells me that this is 64 bit prerequisite. They look identical to that point.
Please point me in the right direction for some instructions on how to install this. I've installed SQL hundreds of times, but this one has be stumped on the proper process.

Using SQL Server 2005 Express (Advanced SP2) I have created a Full-Text Search application in VB for distribution on CD for single PCs. Works fine on my local machine during development.
Although the SQL Server 2005 Express edition can be distributed freely, it does not seem to support Full-Text searches in the distributed version. Is this true? Or am I missing something with my deployment?
If I need another version of Sql Server for distribution of a Full-Text Search app, how do I go about obtaining the proper DB and permission for distribution? The DB size is about 600 MB.

Hi
I (absolute beginner) configured a distribution on a publisher wich acts as its own distributor. I did it by right click on replication "configure distribution", followed all instructions and chose all default values. Nothing more. But now I want to view the distributor properties and following message appears:
TITEL: Distributor Properties
------------------------------
SQL Server is unable to complete the Distributor Properties.
ZUSÄTZLICHE INFORMATIONEN:
Ausnahme beim Ausführen einer Transact-SQL-Anweisung oder eines Transact-SQL-Batches. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)
------------------------------
Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "Latin1_General_CI_AS" and "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" in the equal to operation. (Microsoft SQL Server, Fehler: 468)
My collegue has no problems viewing these properties. We have both XP and SQLServer 2005 SP1. What is the reason for this error message? And how can I solve it?

Elke

Hello folks,
Does anybody have experience with e-mail distribution using Data Driven Subscriptions?
I want to build the following:
I have a table with names and e-mail addresses of people in my data warehouse. This table changes over time, more people will be added and data (for example e-mail addresses) can change.
I made 1 report that I want to mail to all the people in the table. This report contains 1 parameter; the e-mail address of a person.
So basically it€™s quite simple: I want to e-mail all the people in the table a personalized (by the parameter) report each month.
Can anybody tell me how I can achieve this with SSRS 2005(SSEE)? I know how to make a data driven subscription but how can I make one pending on the data in a table?
Any help would be appreciated. I will write a blog about this when I've done it so your input will not get lost.

I believe I have made a complete install of Sql Server 2005 on my dev. machine, including all client tools, and can run SSIS packages from the dev. environment.
However DtExec refuses to run any package and always throws the "insufficient version" error (as does the "RunPackage" component, probably for the same reason).
I have repeatedly attempted to find something more to install from the Sql Server 2005 eval release that will allow DTExec to run without the "insufficient version" error, but can find nothing else to install from the eval. The install wizard (and the "change" wizard) indicates everything is installed and will not build a list of any additional components to install.
Are we sure that DtExec will install and run from a sql server 2005 eval distribution?
Licenses are in the pipeline (not that pipleine) but we need to start testing our SSIS solution in the meantime.
p.s. Kudos to the dev. team, it really is an excellent tool!
Thanks,
Ken

I've been using replication for a long while now but have never come across this error. It's a basic transactional replication from ServerA to ServerB, where ServerA is also the distributor. Everything had been running fine on it until yesterday, when this error started popping up and no further transactions could be delivered.
After some quick googling I was able to determine that the distribution agent account needed write access to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server100Com. According to the MSFT article it's because the distribution agent is running under a non-default profile. I didn't change this. However, what I did change around the time that these errors started occurring was the server's Replication Max Test Size setting. It would be far too coincidental for this to not be the cause, but what I don't understand is *why* that would have changed it.
how do I change this? It is definitely not preferable to create temp files in this directory in our environment.

I used SQL 2000 before. There are options for setting program files path and data path, which I usually install programs on C: and then data files in D: for easier maintenance. However, I cannot find this options in SQL 2005. Is that both (program files and data) must be locate in the same drive/path? or how can I do it same as SQL 2000? Please advise. Many thanks.

Is there any setting to indicate Unicode data to handle, so that no need to exclusively use Unicode data types ( ex nvarchar ).
I need to execute both Unicode and non Unicode SQL statements with in one environment. I don't want to create seperate database again.
Please let me know if any one had approached on SQL server this way. I am looking the way Oracle provides where you don€™t need to declare the data type of the column as Unicode type in table definition but can indicate when running a query to manipulate that field as Unicode field.
Thank youSunil

I am using the Configure Publishing and Distribution Wizard in the SQL Server Enterprise Manager to configure a server as a Distribution and Publishing server. The security configuration on the server in question for authentication is SQL Server and Windows NT.
When I get to the first page in the wizard I select that I want to use the server as the Distributor. The other option is to use another server for the Distribution server - and this isn't what I want to do. The next page presents the option to use the default settings to configure the distribution databases or to configure the setup. If I select the default options I get the following error message when the arrow is pointing to Configuring Distributor:
----------------------------------------------
SQL Server Enterprise Manager could not configure 'SERVER1' as the Distributor for
'SERVER1'.
Error 18456: Login failed for user 'sa'.
Remote logins for remote server 'repl_distributor' have been dropped.
Server dropped.
Server added.
Server network name set.
----------------------------------------------
Something I have tried to change in order to fix this issue is the 'Replication agents on the Distributor log into the Publisher:' option from its default (By impersontating the SQL Agent account on 'SERVER1' (trusted connection)) to 'Using SQL Server Authentication of this account:', and in those fields I have put in 'sa' (which is a valid admin account to the SQL server) and the correct password.
In all cases I get the message above. Can anyone help me to see what I am doing wrong?
Thanks for your time,
Eric Gross

I'm sure this is pretty basic for many folks, but how do I go about setting up and testing a Data Flow element's error output?
The intent is to set up flat file that'll contain the error output from elements on the Data Flow tab of an SSIS package. Later, I'd like to have the error output go to a SQL Server table so my DBAs have access to the errors.
There is no data transformation in this package -- it's very simple, just plain, delimited text to a 2-column SQL Server table.
Here's what I've done so far:
Set up a flat file destination to capture the error output. This flat file destination points to an empty file (C:ErrorDestination.txt) on my local machine.
Grabbed the "red" output from the Data Flow element (named "Source REGIONS"). This element is a flat file source, pointing to a file named Regions.txt. I was pleased to see that the connection manager for the error output was automatically populated with the 3 columns (Flat File Source Error Output Column, Error Code, and Error Column) when I clicked on the "New" connection button in the Flat File Destination Editor.
Changed the "Error Output" for the 2 columns in the flat file source to "Redirect Row" for both the Error and Truncation columns. I understand this instructs the source to send the error-causing rows to the error destination.
I ran the package to make sure nothing has changed how it operates under normal conditions.
But, when I introduce an obvious error into the source file (removing a quote surrounding data in one row) the package blows up on the Data Flow element in the Control Flow tab, the flat file source in the Data Flow tab turns red, but nothing flows to the error destination.
I truly expected the error on the flat file source to flow into the error destination on the data flow tab.
Any ideas? I appreciate any guidance or insight you might be able to give!
Sorry for the length of this post, but I wanted to make sure I've covered my bases.
Thanks a ton!
