Error Updating Dynamic Datagrid With SQL Server

Jun 29, 2007

Hello, I have a datagrid which is populated with data from an MS SQL server database.
 When I run an update query it always throws an exception - what is the most likely cause for this given that I am using the code below:

 1 public void DataGrid_Update(Object sender, DataGridCommandEventArgs e)
2 {
3 String update = "UPDATE Fruit SET Product = @ID, Quantity = @Q, Price = @P, Total = @T where Product = @Id";
4
5 SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand(update, conn);
6
7 command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@ID", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 50));
8 command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@Q", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 50));
9 command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@P", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 50));
10 command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@T", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 50));
11 command.Parameters["@ID"].Value = DataGrid.DataKeys[(int)e.Item.ItemIndex];
12 command.Connection.Open();
13
14 try
15 {
16 command.ExecuteNonQuery();
17 Message.InnerHtml = "Update complete!" + update;
18 DataGrid.EditItemIndex = -1;
19 }
20 catch (SqlException exc)
21 {
22 Message.InnerHtml = "Update error.";
23 }
24
25 command.Connection.Close();
26
27 BindGrid();
28 }

All of the row types in MS SQL server are set to nvarchar(50) - as I thought this would eliminate any inconsistencies in types.
Thanks anyone

Updating/getting Values From Datagrid In C# With Variable Parameters

Oct 24, 2006

HiI am new to the world of aspx, .net and C#.In aspx .net 2.0. I am trying to work out how to get a datagrid to perform an update. Using Visual Developer I have successfully added the control and specifed a select statement to return data via my SQLData Source. This works fine. However having specifed the control as editable I would like to perform an update through the datagrid and SQLDatasource. I see in the properties for the SQLDatasource object I can specify my update statement.However I do not understand how to get that update statement to have variable values and how newly entered values from the grid can be placed into these variables when the update takes place. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I have not found the MS doc very illuminating thus far and have not found any examples.Many ThanksT

False Error When Trying To Return Data In Datagrid

Jul 23, 2005

VB.NET 2003 / SQLS2KThe Stored Procedure returns records within Query Analyzer.But when the Stored Procedure is called by ADO.NET ~ it produced thefollowing error message.---------------------------Exception Message: Failed to enable constraints. One or more rowscontain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints.------------------------------------------------------Exception Source: System.Data---------------------------If I click OK past the error messages I will get data filling thedatagrid. However not as I would like to see it.Even though it returns the proper data rows and includes all thecolumns I asked for, it also returns plenty of columns I didn't ask for(all the columns of the main table) and all those columns are filledwith "null"In addition each row header contains a red exclaimation mark whch whenhovered over reads;"Column 'cmEditedBy' does not allow DBNull.Values."An interesting thing about this column 'cmEditedBy' is that there isnoting wrong with it and all rows for that column contain data.I believe this error is a mistake! Sql Server 2005 Dev Edition Error - Unexpected Error While Updating Installed Files

Feb 14, 2007

I am attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition onto a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine, but unfortunately each time that I attempt to install I receive an error message in the summary log as follows:

Product : Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Product Version: 9.00.1399.06
Install : Failed
Log File : C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup
Last Action : InstallFinalize
Error String : The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Updating Installed Files.
The error is : Fatal error during installation.
Error Number : 29528

There is probably a simple solution for the issue but unfortunately I am unaware of what it is? I can€™t tell if the issue is specific to registry settings, security, file types, etc€¦ The information below surrounds the error w/in the log, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks, Jennifer

Dynamic Filter Not Updating Correctly

Apr 14, 2006

I have several SQL Mobile devices (WM5) syncronizing with a SQL 2005 database through merge replication. We are using the HOST_NAME parameter to filter several tables. A few of these filters use a sub-query to filter the data because of the complexity of the filter (need to do more than join to one table). The subquery will use the HOST_NAME parameter. For example, I want to get a list of all users in the current user's company I need to use host_name to get the current user, find their company ID, then filter the user table on that company ID.

Everything works fine until a user is removed from the table. In that case, the delete statement is not replicated to the device until they reinitialize the mobile database.

Thanks for the help!!

SQL 2012 :: SSIS / Dynamic Updating Of A Recordset Variable?

Jul 8, 2015

updating a recordset contained in an System.Object variable during runtime.

I am trying to execute multiple file actions (plus parsing those files into a set of staging tables) at separate locations in parallel. I know I can do this in C# but I have a business requirement to use SSIS for all ETL operations.

Any one site can have 0 to many of 1 to 3 files. I would like to run multiple sites at the same time, so when all files of all types are completed at that site then go on to the next site in the list. I know I can do a single site at a time in a foreach loop but if I can run lets say 3-5 sites concurrently then I should be able to save execution time.

My thought is to have a recordset of the sites, when any 1 of the 3 (or more) "control flows" is open, update the recordset to let it know that site being actioned, when that site is complete, update the recordset that the site is completed, and so on.Or am I running in the wrong direction?

SQL Server 2008 :: ODBC Error Updating A Recordset

Jun 15, 2015

I am getting an error (number -2147217887, error message "ODBC--call failed.") when I try to execute an rst.Update. I have an MS Access 2013 application using an ODBC connection to SQL Server 2008 r2. I am using a query to update a table. It is a simple Select query with no joins. I have checked to make sure the table can be updated.

I was not sure if there were any special permissions that I need to set to allow a linked table to be updated in MS Access this way?

(urgent)How Should I Implement A Order In My Datagrid Using SQl Server

Aug 15, 2007

Hi,
    I have created a ASP.net website and i have a page called Investment choices where the user can either type in the data in a text box or there they can select  them from a grid view(called Funds). The Typed data or the selected data goes in to another datagrid(called plans). and i want to implement a display order.
right now when the user adds 6 numbers using the text box and since i seperate them using commas. In Plans datagrid i get the numbers from 1-6. then after words if the user selects the from the Funds gridview it just its adds a number 1.

 So how can i have the display order sequentially so if the user types 6 no's it should be  1- 6 and if he selects 2 funds from the gridview it should be 7 and 8. I have a field in the database which is called display order which is a integer. so do u think it makes sense as making that field as an identity field or how should i deal with it.
Any ideas will be appreciated.
Regards,
Karen

SQL Server Compact Table Not Getting Data Edits Made In Datagrid From Vs05 C#

Mar 13, 2007

New to SQL Server Compact Edition and I am getting my feet wet with the following tutorial: http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdntv/episode.aspx?xml=episodes/en/20060831MobileRB/manifest.xml

I follow the tutorial exactly, but the data I edit through the Edit Dialog Form is not saved to the SQL Server table even though all of the edits appear in the datagrid. They never make it back into the table.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Retrieving Data From SQL Server Table To Display On Button On Datagrid Table.

Oct 10, 2007

I have nine type of buttons,
EnrollAmtBTM
PlacAmtBTM and so on, I also have a SQL setver view V_Payment_Amount_List from here i need to display the data on the button
this is the select value to display when i choose the agency list and the amount corresponding to that agency_ID is displayed here the agency_ID is fetched from the SQL CONDITION
 THIS IS WHERE I GET FETCH AGENCY DATA WHEN SELECTED i.e SQL CONDITIONprotected void CollectAgencyInformation()
{
WebLibraryClass ConnectionFinanceDB;ConnectionFinanceDB = new WebLibraryClass();
string SQLCONDITION = "";string RUN_SQLCONDITION = "";
SessionValues ValueSelected = null;int CollectionCount = 0;if (Session[Session_UserSPersonalData] == null)
{ValueSelected = new SessionValues();
Session.Add(Session_UserSPersonalData, ValueSelected);
}
else
{
ValueSelected = (SessionValues)(Session[Session_UserSPersonalData]);
}ProcPaymBTM.Visible = false;PaymenLstBTN.Visible = false;
Dataviewlisting.ActiveViewIndex = 0;TreeNode SelectedNode = new TreeNode();
SelectedNode = AgencyTree.SelectedNode;
SelectedAgency = SelectedNode.Value.ToString();
Agencytxt.Text = SelectedAgency;
Agencytxt2.Text = SelectedAgency;
Agencytxt3.Text = SelectedAgency;DbDataReader CollectingDataSelected = null;
try
{CollectingDataSelected = ConnectionFinanceDB.CollectedFinaceData("SELECT DISTINCT AGENCY_ID FROM dbo.AIMS_AGENCY where Program = '" + SelectedAgency + "'");
}
catch
{
}DataTable TableSet = new DataTable();
TableSet.Load(CollectingDataSelected, LoadOption.OverwriteChanges);int IndexingValues = 0;foreach (DataRow DataCollectedRow in TableSet.Rows)
{if (IndexingValues == 0)
{SQLCONDITION = "where (Project_ID = '" + DataCollectedRow["AGENCY_ID"].ToString().Trim() + "'";
}
else
{SQLCONDITION = SQLCONDITION + " OR Project_ID = '" + DataCollectedRow["AGENCY_ID"].ToString().Trim() + "'";
}
IndexingValues += 1;
}SQLCONDITION = SQLCONDITION + ")";
ConnectionFinanceDB.DisconnectToDatabase();if (Dataviewlisting.ActiveViewIndex == 0)
{
Dataviewlisting.ActiveViewIndex += 1;
}
else
{
Dataviewlisting.ActiveViewIndex = 0;
}
SelectedAgency = SQLCONDITION;
ValueSelected.CONDITION = SelectedAgency;

???? this is where i use to get count where in other buttons and are displayed.... but i changed the query to display only the Payment_Amount_Budgeted respective to the agency selected. from the viewRUN_SQLCONDITION = "SELECT Payment_Amount_Budgeted FROM dbo.V_Payment_Amount_List " + SQLCONDITION;
try
{
CollectionCount = ConnectionFinanceDB.CollectedFinaceDataCount(RUN_SQLCONDITION);
EnrollAmtBTM.Text = CollectionCount.ToString();
}
catch
{
}////this is my CollectedFinaceDataCount-- where fuction counts the records in the above select statement if i use for eg.
"SELECT Count(Placement_Retention_ID) FROM dbo.V_Retention_6_Month_Finance_Payment_List"
here is the functionpublic int CollectedFinaceDataCount(String SQLStatement)
{int DataCollection;
DataCollection = 0;
try
{
SQLCommandExe = FinanceConnection.CreateCommand();
SQLCommandExe.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
SQLCommandExe.CommandText = SQLStatement;
ConnectToDatabase();DataCollection = (int) SQLCommandExe.ExecuteScalar();
DisconnectToDatabase();
}catch (Exception ex)
{Console.WriteLine("Exception Occurred :{0},{1}",
ex.Message, ex.StackTrace.ToString());
}
 return DataCollection;
}

So here mu requirement request is to display only the value fronm the view i have against the agency selected
Please help ASAP

Design Patterns Research - Dynamic Error Count Manipulation To Determine On What Type Of Error To Stop Job

Jan 31, 2008

I would like to fail a package depending on the error. The package extracts data from Excel files. I would like to continue processing if an Excel file is badly formatted, but stop processing if there is a serious issue. like the file server hosting the Excel files crashed.
I was thinking about dynamically changing the MaxeErrorCount property based on the Error ID or description.

Any ideas on an intelligent/simple way to do this

Error When Updating Database

Oct 28, 2004

Hi all,
I'm getting an error when updating my database. The connection is fine and the dropdown menu is good also so i think it's the way i've formed my sql string. Here's the line i think i'm having probs with:

SQLString = "UPDATE project_descriptions SET " & _
"lecturer_name = '" & Replace(LecturerName.Text,"'","''") & "'," & _
"project_title = '" & Replace(ProjectTitle.Text,"'","''") & "', " & _
"Project_description = '" & Replace(ProjectDescription.Text,"'","''") & "'," & _
" WHERE project_code = '" & ProjectCode.SelectedItem.Value & "'"

Can anyone rearrange it so i stop getting an error?

Here's my code. if it helps.

Data Not Updating Without Error I Think.

Jun 2, 2006

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am just learning ASP.NET.  My database is on a server running SQL Server 2000 and I have used Dreamweaver to build sites.  I am trying to convert to ASP.NET.
The problem I am having is that data is not updating when I change it in a GridView, DataList, etc.  I have tried including the user name an password in the connection string without success.  What did I miss?
connectionString="Data Source=<ServerName>;Initial Catalog=<DatabaseName>;Integrated Security=True;Uid=sa;Pwd=<Password>;"
This is the string I use in Dreamweaver which works;Driver={SQL Server};Server=<ServerName>;Database=<DatabaseName>;Uid=sa;Pwd=<Password>;

Error While Updating INDEXES

Oct 19, 2005

I was updating few indexes in one of my database tables when I got this warning message:
"Warning! The maximum key length is 900 bytes. The index 'IX_cc_statusText' has maximum length of 1024 bytes. For some combination of large values, the insert/update operation will fail."

Can anyone help me out as to:
1. Why this warning was thrown?
2. What are the implications of the same?
3. How to rectify this?

Here is the script I was using to update the indexes:

CREATE INDEX [cc_programEnrollment14] ON [dbo].[cc_programEnrollment]([cc_company_uid]) ON [PRIMARY]
GO

CREATE INDEX [IX_cc_program_uid] ON [dbo].[cc_programEnrollment]([cc_program_uid]) ON [PRIMARY]
GO

CREATE INDEX [IX_cc_status_uid] ON [dbo].[cc_programEnrollment]([cc_status_uid]) ON [PRIMARY]
GO

CREATE INDEX [IX_cc_CompanyID] ON [dbo].[cc_programEnrollment]([cc_CompanyID]) ON [PRIMARY]
GO

CREATE INDEX [IX_cc_statusText] ON [dbo].[cc_programEnrollment]([cc_statusText]) ON [PRIMARY]
GO

CREATE INDEX [IX_cc_initiatedDate] ON [dbo].[cc_programEnrollment]([cc_initiatedDate]) ON [PRIMARY]
GO

CREATE INDEX [IX_cc_initiatedBy_uid] ON [dbo].[cc_programEnrollment]([cc_initiatedBy_uid]) ON [PRIMARY]
GO

CREATE INDEX [IX_cc_SponsorID] ON [dbo].[cc_programEnrollment]([cc_SponsorID]) ON [PRIMARY]
GO

CREATE INDEX [IX_cc_SponsorDistributor_uid] ON [dbo].[cc_programEnrollment]([cc_SponsorDistributor_uid]) ON [PRIMARY]
GO

CREATE INDEX [IX_cc_programEnrollment] ON [dbo].[cc_programEnrollment]([cc_isDealerEligible], [cc_uid]) ON [PRIMARY]
GO

Thanks in advance

Error Updating A Table

Dec 29, 2005

I am trying to update one of the databases Jobs table Via an asp page because the amount of text in the field is too large to to be added via the DTS import wizard. I keep getting the following error.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e37'

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'Jobs'.

The table Jobs definately exists in the database. I double checked the System DSN to make sure that it was pointing to this database. What do I need to look for to fix this?

oops, Forgot to show the sql statement this is using, I am using ADO to insert the data vs using an Update Query because of the number of apostrophe's etc in the variables.

SELECT description FROM Jobs WHERE JobID = 1

Error Updating A DateTime Field

Oct 11, 2005

Hi, I'm having trouble updating a DateTime field in my SQL database.  Here is what I'm trying to do....I retrieve the existing value in the DateTime field (usually a bum date like 1/1/1900 00:00:00:00), then put it in a variable.  Later, depending on some conditions, I'll either update the DateTime field to today's date (which works great) or set it back equal to the existing value from the variable (this one messes up and says "SqlDateTime overflow. Must be between 1/1/1753 12:00:00 AM and 12/31/9999 11:59:59 PM. ").  There is a ton more than this but here are the relevant snippets:<code>Dim CompDate As DateTimeDim aComm As SQLCommand Dim aReader As SQLDataReader Dim bSQL,bConn As String bSQL= "SELECT CompleteDate,StatusOfMarkout FROM Tickets WHERE TicketName=" _ & CHR(39) & Trim(Ticket.Text) & CHR(39) bConn = serverStuff aConn = New SQLConnection(bConn) aComm = New SQLCommand(bSQL,aConn) aConn.Open() result = aComm.ExecuteReader() 'fills controls with data While result.Read()    CompDate = result("CompleteDate")    PreviousMarkoutStatus.Text = result("StatusOfMarkout") End While result.Close() aConn.Close()sSqlCmd ="Update OneCallTickets CompleteDate=@CompleteDate, StatusOfMarkout=@StatusOfMarkout WHERE TicketFileName=@TicketFileName" dim SqlCon as New SqlConnection(serverStuff) dim SqlCmd as new SqlCommand(sSqlCmd, SqlCon) If Flag1List.SelectedItem.Value = "No Change" Then    SqlCmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@Flag1", SqlDbType.NVarChar,35))    SqlCmd.Parameters("@Flag1").Value = PreviousMarkoutStatus.Text    SqlCmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@CompleteDate", SqlDbType.DateTime, 8))    SqlCmd.Parameters("@CompleteDate").Value = CompDateElse   SqlCmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@Flag1", SqlDbType.NVarChar,35))    SqlCmd.Parameters("@Flag1").Value = CurrentStatus.Text    SqlCmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@CompleteDate", SqlDbType.DateTime, 8))    SqlCmd.Parameters("@CompleteDate").Value = Today()End IfSqlCon.Open() SqlCmd.ExecuteNonQuery() SqlCon.Close()</code>Can anybody help me with this?  Thanks a bunch

Error When Updating Bigint Columns Using ADO

May 3, 2007

I am attempting to write a conversion of our product for Compact Edition; we already provide it based on SQL Server. The database interface uses ADO through a Python-win32com adaptor, and has worked fine so far. (Note: *not* ADO.net, just plain old COM)

Now, a curious thing happens. When inserting new data through a Recordset, everything works fine - except for columns defined as bigint. There are no exceptions thrown, but when you read the columns back they contain nothing but zeroes. Do the same to any other column type - I've tried integer, numeric, float, nvarchar and ntext so far, and they all seem to work just fine. It does not seem to be conversion-related either, since I've tested the exact same data to various column types. And using bigint on regular SQL Server works just fine.

The code involved is quite unspectacular, and simply switching the column types to integer would solve the immediate problem, but causes potential future issues since we normally store internal IDs in bigint columns, and the values may grow quite large.

Error In Updating Field Thru Stor_proc

Jul 13, 2007

I'm trying to update 'password' field in a table thru a stored procedure which is called from my program.

I'm passing the values for password and the key fields.

While debugging I can see the values in each parameter, but I get an error that the 'value for password was not passed'.

Here's the program snippet for calling the stored proc.

All three parameters are 'varchar' type

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

dbConn.Open();

dbConn.CreateParameters(3);

dbConn.AddParameters(0, Pwd, newPwd);

dbConn.AddParameters(1, Login, pwd_Login);

dbConn.AddParameters(2, IdNum, pwd_IdNum);

result = dbMgr.ExecuteNonQuery(CommandType.StoredProcedure, SP_UPDPWD);

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EXEC @return_value = [dbo].[usp_UsrMstUpdPwdParaPwdEmailCaseNum]

@Pwd = N'3Sg7vqowIBRdfgdfgrgdjykFTjTFt5hfHfhFtFghzIG1haWRliBuYW1lPw==',

@Login = N'xyz@abc.com',

@IdNumber = N'00009'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What am I missing?
