Feb 6, 2008

Hi

  I have a table called ClientPlan and in which PlanId is the Primary key. another table called ClientSources1 and i have a column called planId.. and i am trying to set that as Foriegn key so that if i delete a record in the ClientPlan table i want the record to be deleted in Clientsources too.. i have tried settting the Foreign in the clientsources table for ClientPlan to Cascade update and delete.. but that doesnt work...and i get the error below...

ClientPlan' table saved successfully
'ClientSources1' table
- Unable to create relationship 'FK_ClientSources1_ClientPlan'.
Introducing FOREIGN KEY constraint 'FK_ClientSources1_ClientPlan' on table 'ClientSources1' may cause cycles or multiple cascade paths. Specify ON DELETE NO ACTION or ON UPDATE NO ACTION, or modify other FOREIGN KEY constraints.
Could not create constraint. See previous errors.

any help will be appreciated.

How Can I Create A One-to-one Relationship In A SQL Server Management Studio Express Relationship Diagram?

Mar 25, 2006

How can I create a one-to-one relationship in a SQL Server Management Studio Express Relationship diagram?

For example:
I have 2 tables, tbl1 and tbl2.

tbl1 has the following columns:
id {uniqueidentifier} as PK
name {nvarchar(50)}

tbl2 has the following columns:
id {uniqueidentifier} as PK
name {nvarchar(50)}
tbl1_id {uniqueidentifier} as FK linked to tbl1.id

If I drag and drop the tbl1.id column to tbl2 I end up with a one-to-many relationship. How do I create a one-to-one relationship instead?

Power Pivot :: Use Relationship Not Overriding Conflicting Active Relationship?

Oct 14, 2015

I have four tables with relationships as shown. They have a circular relationship and so one of the relationships is forced to be inactive.

   Operation (Commodity, OperationKey)   ==========>
Commodity (Commodity)
                      /
/
                       |
|
   Advice (OperationKey)       ====== (inactive)=======>
Operation Commmodity (Commodity, OperationKey)

I have the following measure:

Advice No. Commodity:=CALCULATE (
COUNTROWS ( 'Advice' ),
USERELATIONSHIP(Advice[OperationKey],'Operation Commodity'[OperationKey]),
operation
)

However, the userelationship function does not override the active relationship between Operation & Advice and so the measure is limited to Advices directly filtered by the Operation table.

If I delete the relationship between Operation and Advice, then the measure works as expected i.e. Operation indirectly filters Operation Commodity which filters Advice.

HELP! Synchronize Db And Maintain Foriegn Key Relations?

Jan 30, 2007

I have to synchronize 2 databases hourly but am having difficulty maintaining foreign key relations. These tables use auto-increment columns as primary keys, with child records in other tables related with foreign keys. I can't change the way the local software uses primary or foreign keys as it is hardcoded in the local app. (microsoft retail management system)..(however the web-remote app is easily customized). I am using CDB synchronizer to sync the two databases because the remote one is mysql.

Example tables layout:
Items table has auto-increment primary key 'id'
TransactionEntry table has its own auto-increment primary key 'id' and a foreign key 'item_id'

Example of how remote and local database foreign key relations are incorrect after sync using CDB synchronizer:
8:00am -first installation of database-'item' tables auto-increment 'id' columns match with id last record value of '6'

locally the following products are added:

11001 short sleeve t---gets added with primary key in 'item' table 'id' of '7'

11002 long sleeve t----gets added with primary key in 'item' table 'id' '8'

remotely the following products are added:

21001 hipster jeans- --gets added with primary key in 'item' table 'id' of '7'

31001 overalls---gets added with primary key in 'item' table 'id' '8'

remotely someone orders 21001..so TransactionEntry table records sale of "item_id" of '7', but after synch with our local server,

product with "item_id" of '7' is "short sleeve t".

9:00 -synch takes place...item_id foreign key isn't accurate because of independent auto-increment values..

whenever a product is ordered, the TransactionEntry table will record the product's ID column thats available in it's own local copy... after synch, the 'item_id' field will not match the 'Item' table id field and the data about the transaction's product is lost.

I have read of solutions involving staging/temporary tables to cascade update foreign keys before synching into main database, but hopefully there is a more elegant solution for this. If this is only way, will it be reliable? foreign key mix-match seems like could cause havoc.

Loading Tables With Foriegn Key Contraints

Aug 31, 2006

Hi,

I am having trouble loading tables (within the same data flow) that have a foriegn key relationship defined between them. For instance:

Table A is a parent (one side of the relationship) to Table B (many side of the relationship).

I am trying to load Table A first within the data flow and then Table B after, but I get the following error:

[OCMD EntityRole Insert [2666]] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E2F. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E2F Description: "The statement has been terminated.". An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E2F Description: "The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_EntityRole_Entity". The conflict occurred in database "ODS", table "dbo.Entity", column 'EntityGuid'.".

I am currently using OLE DB commands to perform the inserts, I load table A and move on to then load Table B, I can see the records in Table A before trying to load Table B but for some reason Table B load still fails.

I was thinking maybe this has something to do with the transaction setting or Isolation level but have played with this to no avail (currently everything is the default - supported/serializable). Also, I am thinking maybe because the OLE DB commands are creating two seperate connections (they are using the same connection manager) the second one is unable to see the transactions from the other (first) connection (Table A)?

Is there a way around this without dropping (disabling) forigen keys before the load and adding them back in after? Would like to avoid this?

I would also like to avoid reading the data source multiple times. Everything I need is in the one source so I would like to populate multiple tables from the one source data stream instead of reading the same data 2,3 or 4 times etc.

Seems to me there must be a simple explanation/solution for this but I'm stuck at this point?

P.S.

I was intially using OLE DB destinations (because they are much faster) and was having the same issue, which made sense because the OLE DB destinations do not let you pass the data stream on so I had to multi cast to the destinations so they were loading at the same time. I would rather use the OLE DB destinations so if you have any ideas around how I could do this using those components that would be appreciated too!

Thanks!

WHY DO FORIEGN KEYS HAVE TO BE UNIQUE OR HAVE A CONSTRAINT?

Oct 9, 2007

How do I go about protecting rows from deletion in this scenerio?
Rule 1 The Administrator Users Account may not be deleted
Rule 2 All Groups have Administrator as a member, and the Administrator cannot be removed.
Rule 3 All Groups have the Administrators Group as a member, and the Administrators Group cannot be removed.

Four tables:

Users Table (
UID bigint Identity seeded with 1234 Primary key
UserID varchar(30) NOT NULL UNIQUE

)
INSERT FIRST RECORD (this record needs to be protected from deletion)
UID = 1234
UserID='Admininstrator'

INSERT FIRST RECORD (this record and others can be deleted)
UID = 1235
UserID='Test User 1'

Groups Table (
GID bigint Identity seeded with 1234 Primary key
GroupName varchar(30) NOT NULL UNIQUE
)

INSERT FIRST RECORD (this record needs to be protected from deletion)
GID = 1234
UserID='Admininstrators'

INSERT SECOND RECORD (this record and others can be deleted)
GID = 1235
UserID='Test Group 1'

Group_Members Table (
GID bigint NOT NULL //points to the group's ID and can't be unique
UID bigint NOT NULL //points to the members UserID and can't be unique
)
INSERT FIRST RECORD (this record needs to be protected from deletion because UID points to the Administrator)
GID = 1234
UID = 1234

INSERT SECOND RECORD (this record and others can be deleted because UID does not point to the Administrator.)
GID = 1234
UID = 1235

Group_Group_Members Table (
GID bigint NOT NULL //points to the group's ID and can't be unique
GGID bigint NOT NULL //points to the group members GID and can't be unique
)
INSERT FIRST RECORD (this record needs to be protected from deletion because GGID points to the Administrators Group.)
GID = 1234
GGID = 1234

INSERT SECOND RECORD (this record and others can be deleted because GGID does not point to the Administrators Group.)
GID = 1234
GGID = 1235

I have tried using foriegn keys, constraints an every thing else, but I hit a brick wall because FK requires the ke to be primary (btw is UNIQUE).
Any help would be appreciated.

I had just installed SQL 2005 dev on my laptop and got an error message when I tried to create a package using the BI IDE. I received the same error using VS2005 IDE. But the project was created regardless without any packages. When I tried to create a new package in the project, I received the same error again, but with an option to view the error details.

Following is the text of the error details:

I found a similar post that suggested that they try the following:

regsvr32 msxml4.dll
regsvr32 msxml6.dll

But msxml6.dll could not be found.

I did get a copy of this file from a coworker, and after copying it and registering it, I was able to add a package to the project.

My concern now is what is the likelyhood of this being the only file missing from the installation.

I'm wondering if I should reinstall, or (if it exists) do a repair on the installation.

Thanks.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Error - Could Not Establish Trust Relationship For SSL / TLS Secure Channel

Jan 14, 2015

I am a bit stumped by error generated when attempting to connect to the report url.

The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.

The only thing I can think of is a certificate is issued to the server (all domain devices) via group policy by cert authority running on the domain.

If I check the bindings within Report Services Configuration Manager the certificate is referenced.

I have tried removing 443 but I am still unable to connect.

Can't Save Package To Server (No Description Found) ERROR - Again

Dec 31, 2005

Hello, I need some help with installing release copies of SQL05(+SSIS) and VS05 on Win03R2.  It is very frustrating when a basic install fails. I€™ve been going round and round with this.  M$ support has not been of help yet.

I have a new development box for SQL05/VS05 development, and when I do a clean install of release software from MSDN: Windows Server 2003 R2 ent; SQL Server 2005 dev; Visual Studio 2005 pro I find that the "save to server" in SSIS (and other utilities that save a package) fails with a non-informative message *No Description Found* (see error text below).

To setup this box I install Win03R2 first, promote it to a Active Directory DC (the one and only DC in a test forest), then install VS05 onto the E: drive.  Note, I must install VS05 first (before SQL05) so that all components get installed to the RAID5 *E:* drive.  If SQL05 is installed first then VS that comes with SQL gets installed on to C: (no way I see to get around this) then the full VS05 pro gets forced to install on the C: drive.

Then I install SQL05 (with everything including SSIS).  At this point every thing works fine, packages can be saved ok.

If I then install VS05 again so that all settings of VS05 are as expected of a standard VS05 install (not the SQL version) then the problem with saving packages arises.

If the error message was a little more informative, I might be able to track down the source of the problem.  Please help!  I have tried a bunch of things - creating credentials, proxies, using the most privileged accounts possible, etc.

Thanks, MikeC

Log Shipping Error - Failing To Save Secondary Server Configurations Err # 14262

Apr 24, 2007

I set up Log Shipping with just 2 servers primary and secondary. When I run from the Wizard for the very first time keeps failing at the stage of saving Secondary Server Configuration info. When i instead run the generated script this problem disappears but then restoring of transactions fails - the process can backup transactions from the Primary server , copy them accross to the secondary and fails on the restore. Any ideas why.

XML Validation Error Detected On The Target Service. How To Keep And Save The Original Wrong XML Message?

May 9, 2007

Hello,

I have a message that is validated using a schema.

If I send the message that is not compliant with the schema, the message is not enqueued on the target queue but it is send back to the Initiator queue and the message_body contains the description of the Error.

On the Initiator queue I have activated a SP that is I used to end the conversation and log the error.

One of the information that I need to log is the original XML message that causes the validation error so I can check it.

It seems that in the moment I'm on this SP, activated when there is something on the Initiator queue I have no memory of the original message or at least I'm not able to find it.

Any hints/helps??

Thank you very much!

M.B.

3 SqlDataAdapter myCommand1 = new SqlDataAdapter("select * from SurveyTemplate", myConnection);
4 SqlCommandBuilder cb = new SqlCommandBuilder(myCommand1);
5 myCommand1.FillSchema(ds, SchemaType.Source);
6 DataTable pTable = ds.Tables["Table"];
7 pTable.TableName = "SurveyTemplate";
8 myCommand1.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand();
9 myCommand1.InsertCommand.Connection = myConnection;
10
11 SqlDataAdapter myCommand2 = new SqlDataAdapter("select * from Question", myConnection);
12 cb = new SqlCommandBuilder(myCommand2);
13 myCommand2.FillSchema(ds, SchemaType.Source);
14 pTable = ds.Tables["Table"];
15 pTable.TableName = "Question";
16 myCommand2.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand();

20 cb = new SqlCommandBuilder(myCommand3);
21 myCommand3.FillSchema(ds, SchemaType.Source);
22 pTable = ds.Tables["Table"];
23 pTable.TableName = "Possible_Answer";
24 myCommand3.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand();
25 myCommand3.InsertCommand.Connection = myConnection;
26
27 ds.Relations.Add(new DataRelation("FK_Question_SurveyTemplate", ds.Tables["SurveyTemplate"].Columns["id"], ds.Tables["Question"].Columns["surveyTemplateID"]));
28 ds.Relations.Add(new DataRelation("FK_Possible_Answer_Question", ds.Tables["Question"].Columns["id"], ds.Tables["Possible_Answer"].Columns["questionID"]));
29
30 DataRow dr = ds.Tables["SurveyTemplate"].NewRow();
31 dr["name"] = o[0];
32 dr["description"] = o[1];
33 dr["active"] = 1;
34 ds.Tables["SurveyTemplate"].Rows.Add(dr);
35
36 DataRow dr1 = ds.Tables["Question"].NewRow();
37 dr1["questionIndex"] = 1;
38 dr1["questionContent"] = "q1";
39 dr1.SetParentRow(dr);
40 ds.Tables["Question"].Rows.Add(dr1);
41
42 DataRow dr2 = ds.Tables["Possible_Answer"].NewRow();
43 dr2["answerIndex"] = 1;

53
54 dr2 = ds.Tables["Possible_Answer"].NewRow();

62 dr2["answerContent"] = "a22";
63 dr2.SetParentRow(dr1);
64 ds.Tables["Possible_Answer"].Rows.Add(dr2);
65
66 myCommand1.Update(ds,"SurveyTemplate");
67 myCommand2.Update(ds, "Question");
68 myCommand3.Update(ds, "Possible_Answer");
69 ds.AcceptChanges();
70

and that causes (at line 67):"The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint
"FK_Question_SurveyTemplate". The conflict occurred in database
"ankietyzacja", table "dbo.SurveyTemplate", column
'id'.
The statement has been terminated.

DTS Migration Wizard Failed To Save Package File -with Error 0x80070002 - Th System Cannot Find The File Specified.

Jan 31, 2007

Hi,

I use the DTS 2000 Migration Wizard to migrate one of the DTS 2000 packages to SSIS. The migration failed with the following error message:

Looking at the call stack, it looks like COM wrapper fails on SaveToXML. Can someone tell me how I should workaround this problem?

Thanks,

Many To One Relationship

Feb 22, 2007

Hello
 I have need to write a query that I can pass in a bunch of filter criteria, and return 1 result....it's just ALL of the criteria must be matched and a row returned:
 example:
 Transaction table: id, reference
attribute table: attributeid, attribute
 transactionAttribute: attributeid, transactionid
 Example dat
 Attribute table contains: 1 Red, 2 Blue, 3 Green
Transaction table contains: 1 one, 2 two, 3 three
transactionAttribute contains: (1,1), (1,2), (1,3), (2,3), (3,1)

If I pass in Red, Blue, Green - I need to be returned "one" only
If I pass in Red - I need to be returned "three" only
If I pass in Red, Green - nothing should be returned as it doesn't EXACTLY match the filter criteria

If anyone's able to help that would be wonderful!
Thanks, Paul

One To One Relationship

Aug 12, 2002

Can anyone provided insight on how to create a one-to-one relationship between
SQL tables? Every time I try to link two tables that should be one-to-one, the link says one-to-many.
How can I specify one-to-one when SQL Server automatically thinks it is a one-to-many?
Thanks,
Kellie
