Errors Exporting A View
Mar 2, 2000
I am trying to export a view defined as follows (to cleanse data):
Create View Cleanse_View as
SELECT Primary_Key, Name, Value,
SUBSTRING(Name, 1, len(Nam) - len(Value)) AS Test_Method
FROM My_Table
THE FOLLOWING ERROR IS GENERATED WHEN EXPORTING (USING SELECT, etc):
Server: Msg 536, Level 16, State 3, Line 1
Invalid length parameter passed to the substring function.
The statement has been terminated.
Any ideas of what's causing this because the view works fine?
Thanks

We have a customer that has a large report that they want to export to Excel. If I try to export the entire report, it just hangs. If I run the report in 2 batches, it exports fine.
Can you tell me if there is a patch for SSRS that is going to address this or if there is a work around that I can put in my report to handle it?
The customer is quite upset at the work around so I'd love to find a solution soon.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I thought this should be easy... but, so far it has not been. I want to export data from SQL Server using a query to an Excel spreadsheet. I'm using SQL Server ODBC for the source connection and a Connection To Excel as my destination source. The spreadsheet exists and has the first row with column names. My mappings and query work fine. I don't have any warnings before trying to execute. BUT it will not insert the data into the spreadsheet. Here are the errors I'm getting:
[Destination - TEST$ [28]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21.
[Destination - TEST$ [28]] Error: Cannot create an OLE DB accessor. Verify that the column metadata is valid.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "Destination - TEST$" (28) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202025.
TEST$ is the sheet that I am trying to add the data to and I'm using Excel 2003.
My query is simple:
SELECT OrderDate AS Date, VendorName AS Vendor, Item AS Product, TotalCost AS Amount
FROM osv_Ordercaldwecs319
All fields have been converted to varchar although I started with not trying to convert them so I have tried both ways.
What is causing the errors? Where can I look to find the problem? I'm guessing it's a data conversion problem but I made everything varchar and no formating on the spreadsheet (although I've tried that as well)
HELP please!!!
Thanks,
Linda

I am creating a view consisting of 278 to 300 columns. ( I want to use this view for data entry). The columns are of varchar(30) datatype. I am able to successfully create the view but upon opening the view in Enterprise Manager or Access I get the following error:
Too many columns defined in rowset.
Is this a bug? Please advise.

We have a script that drops the views on all the database tables and then creates them as part of version update of the database. For instance:
if exists (select * from dbo.sysobjects where id = object_id(N'[dbo].[SPONSOR_SYSTEM_TD]') and OBJECTPROPERTY(id, N'IsView') = 1)
drop view [dbo].[SPONSOR_SYSTEM_TD]
GO
CREATE VIEW dbo.SPONSOR_SYSTEM_TD AS SELECT sponsor_installation_type_code,install_directory,sponsor_version,data_directory,system_install_text,record_status_code,mod_date_time,mod_login_id,create_date_time,create_login_id,replicate_to_server_flag,Sponsor_ID FROM SPONSOR_SYSTEM
GO
This above code is done for all 120 tables and has worked fine until now. All our clients have been using SQL 2000. Now we are getting clients with SQL 2005.
The problem is that for these clients using SQL 2005 on 20 of the tables we get the error:
Could not resolve expression for schemabound object or constraint.
And the View is not made for these tables. I saw where this could because the server and database collation is differemt but in this case it's the same for both. I can't see any differences so far between the tables that a View was successfully made for and the ones that it wasn't.
What else should I be looking for that would give this error?
Thanks

Hi all,
I'm trying to use a SQL 2000 view in one of my sources. The view isnt anything special --- just three tables that have been unioned together. All these three tables have the EXACT same datatypes as well as column names. There are no constraints on these tables (yet). There is an identity seed on the first ID column. However, when I try to access this view, it generates the following error:
Server: Msg 4502, Level 16, State 1, Procedure MyView, Line 5
View or function 'MyView' has more column names specified than columns defined.
Server: Msg 4413, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Could not use view or function 'MyView' because of binding errors.
Does anybody have any experience with this?

I recently updated the datatype of a sproc parameter from bit to tinyint. When I executed the sproc with the updated parameters the sproc appeared to succeed and returned "1 row(s) affected" in the console. However, the update triggered by the sproc did not actually work.
The table column was a bit which only allows 0 or 1 and the sproc was passing a value of 2 so the table was rejecting this value. However, the sproc did not return an error and appeared to return success. So is there a way to configure the database or sproc to return an error message when this type of error occurs?

I have a parent package that calls child packages inside a For Each container. When I debug/run the parent package (from VS), I get the following error message: Warning: The Execution method succeeded, but the number of errors raised (3) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors.
It appears to be failing while executing the child package. However, the logs (via the "progress" tab) for both the parent package and the child package show no errors other than the one listed above (and that shows in the parent package log). The child package appears to validate completely without error (all components are green and no error messages in the log). I turned on SSIS logging to a text file and see nothing in there either.
If I bump up the MaximumErrorCount in the parent package and in the Execute Package Task that calls the child package to 4 (to go one above the error count indicated in the message above), the whole thing executes sucessfully. I don't want to leave the Max Error Count set like this. Is there something I am missing? For example are there errors that do not get logged by default? I get some warnings, do a certain number of warnings equal an error?
Thanks,
Lee

I am looking to create a constraint on a table that allows multiplenulls but all non-nulls must be unique.I found the following scripthttp://www.windowsitpro.com/Files/0.../Listing_01.txtthat works fine, but the following lineCREATE UNIQUE CLUSTERED INDEX idx1 ON v_multinulls(a)appears to use indexed views. I have run this on a version of SQLStandard edition and this line works fine. I was of the understandingthat you could only create indexed views on SQL Enterprise Edition?

Write a CREATE VIEW statement that defines a view named Invoice Basic that returns three columns: VendorName, InvoiceNumber, and InvoiceTotal. Then, write a SELECT statement that returns all of the columns in the view, sorted by VendorName, where the first letter of the vendor name is N, O, or P.
This is what I have so far,
CREATE VIEW InvoiceBasic AS

Hi guys 'n gals,
I created a query, which makes use of a temp table, and I need the results to be displayed in a View. Unfortunately, Views do not support temp tables, as far as I know, so I put my code in a stored procedure, with the hope I could call it from a View....
I tried:
CREATE VIEW [qryMyView]
AS
EXEC pr_MyProc
and unfortunately, it does not let this run.
Anybody able to help me out please?

I had given one of our developers create view permissions, but he wants to also modify views that are not owned by him, they are owned by dbo.
I ran a profiler trace and determined that when he tries to modify a view using query designer in SQLem or right clicks in SQLem on the view and goes to properties, it is performing a ALTER VIEW. It does the same for dbo in a trace (an ALTER View). He gets a call failed and a permission error that he doesn't have create view permissions, object is owned by dbo, using both methods.
If it is doing an alter view how can I set permissions for that and why does it give a create view error when its really doing an alter view? Very confusing.

I have this view in SQL server:
CREATE VIEW dbo.vwFeat
AS

FROM dbo.Lk_Feat INNER JOIN
dbo.SubFeat ON dbo.Lk_Feat.Idf = dbo.SubFeat.Idt
When ever I open using SQL Entreprise manager to edit it by adding or removing a field i inserts Expr1,2.. and I don t want that. The result I get is:
SELECT dbo.Lk_Feat.Descr AS Expr1, dbo.Lk_Feat.Price AS Expr2, dbo.Lk_Feat.Code AS Expr3, dbo.SubFeat.SubNmbr AS Expr4
FROM dbo.Lk_Feat INNER JOIN
dbo.SubFeat ON dbo.Lk_Feat.Idf = dbo.SubFeat.Idt
I don t want Entreprise manager to generate the Expr fields since I use the real fields in my application.
Thanks for help

Hi, I'm new to SQL sever and am using SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005.
I've written my query that returns too many rows to be looked at Excel, and so wish to view and perform my calculations in SAS.
However, I don't know how to export the data I am getting in to SAS. I have tried using the Results to File option, but when I try import this into SAS it doesn't like the data.
Is there some option I need or is there anyway I can export the data to SAS.
Thanks a lot.

Hi,I have a bunch of stored procedures (some using temp tables) which giveout tables which are then used in crystal to give out reports. Thesestored procs are run dynamically depending on values users select onformsSome people instead of reports want Comma Seperated Files (CSVs). I amtrying to find a good way of outputting to csv with using either sqlserver or ASP. I tried two ways but none of them were ideal1st methodfirst way i tried was creating a record set in asp and then using thefollowing to output the data in a comma delimited row and writing tofile.Response.Write RecordSet.GetString(,,", ",vbCrLf,"")The problem with the above was with data sets greater than 10,000records the processing time increases exponentially because of memoryusage ( i found other people with the same problem)So i tried the following2nd methodI used bcp using the master.dbo.xp_cmdshell command to output thecsv. The problem with that is that the bcp executes the stored procthree times and also doesnot give out column headers. So i had to runthe stored proc once in ASP and get the headers from the record set andstore it to a text file and then run the stored proc in bcp and sendthe output to a csv file. Then merge the two files into a third file. The problem with this method is that it takes around 4 times as long torun as just the stored proceedure and also i have to create 3 filesinstead of one.I would appreciate any suggestions you have to output the csv from astored proc in sql server. Note users have to do this dynamically whenthey submit a form so cant use the query analyzer or enterprise managertools. Thanks for your time and help:)

I have uploaded this to report manger. The report generates correctly and I export to CSV.
But when I open the CSV file there are Headings at the top. I want to know is there any way of getting rid of there headers so it is jus the data which shows.
(The headers seem to be the name of the textbox column in reporting services)

When using the DTS to copy a db from my local MSSQL to the remote server (connecting via IP address) everything is copied ok except the diagram laying out the relations.
The table relations *are* copied because the damn thing works as expected also on the remote server.
I figured out that the diagrams are saved in the sysfile 'dtproperties' but when copying using the DTS query tool from local to remote this table is not visible.
I need to remove some relations on certain tables when bulk loading new data and was just wondering how I got to copy the diagram (as opposed to creating a new diagram on the remote server and adding relations manually).
Thanks a lot for any ideas,

We just installed another SQL Server and we need to export data from one server to the other
inorder to set up replication. When I tried to export the database from the one server to the other
I got the following error:
The license for the installation of MS SQL Server on your source and destination connection
does not permit the use of DTS to transer data.
Is this because of the setting we used to install the server?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if you could direct me to additional documention
to deal with this, that would be great.
Thank you.

Hi all. Im tryin to export (DTS) my some SQL server tables, many of which contain 'bit' datatypes. However, when DTS/SQL Serv. moves these bit datatypes out, it changes bit values to True/False values - which makes sense - however these are all going to plugin to web frontends where the SQL specifies condtions like: "if column1 = 0 then" etc..
Is there anyway to get SQL server to export bit datatypes as just numeric values of 0/1?

My company just purchased another company and I was tasked with extracting the data from the ACT! database that the purchased company was using for it's Contact Management to import into our CRM. The problem is that all of the contact data is in FoxPro .dbf files that I can extract from, but all of the sales and history data appears to be in unfamiliar file formats that I can not get to from the SQL QA, EM or Access. When I open them up in notepad, the data is a mess. The ACT export feature only appears to export this same Contact data which is pretty useless without everything else. There are third party plug ins that claim to be able to export all of the data, but I have only seen one that I really like and I do not really want to throw down $250 for something we are going to use once for 15 minutes. The trial version only lets you dump about 100 records. I googled the heck out of this and I could'nt find a solution.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everybody,
I was wondering if there is a way to export and recode data at the same time with SQL.
For example I have gender information coded as 1 or 2 in my table and I need to upload the information to a different application that needs M or F. Is there a way to export to a new table and recode at the same time ?
I'm still pretty new to it.
Thank you.
