Errors Creating Databases (visual Studios)

Apr 14, 2008

I have VB2008 express edition and SQL server 2005. When i try to create a new local datasource in my project, the datasource seems to be created just fine however an error message comes up. If i try to create the datasource by selecting it on the 'add new item' menu, an error message says

"The data provider required to connect to the local data file could not be found. The file will be added to the project but the typed Dataset associated with the project will not be created."

If I try to create the datasource by selecting 'add new datasource' from the datasources pane, i can create the connection to a new or existing database but when i click next to proceed to the page defining the dataset, an error message says

"An error occured while converting this connection:
Data provided identified by guid ' 7c602b5b-accb-4acd-9dc0-ca66388c1533 ' could not be loaded"

PLEASE HELP!!
I have no idea how to fix it

thanks,
jordan

Visual Studio And SQL Errors

Apr 2, 2008

My friend created a vb project in Visual Studio 2005 with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 in her computer. Then, I transfer her project to my computer in which Visual Studio 2005 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005 were installed. However, when I run the project, I got the following error on the web browser:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

So, I go to 'SQL Server Surface Area Configuration'. When the window popped up, I clicked on 'Surface area configuration for services and connections'. A window popped up with the following error:
Computer localhost does not exist on the network or the computer cannot be configured remotely verify that the remote computer has the required windows management instrumentation components and then try again.

Then, I checked under Computer Management > Services and Applications > SQL Server Configuration Manager. On the right hand side of the SQL Server Configuration Manager, I saw the following error:
Cannot connect to WMI provider. You do not have permission or the server is unreachable. Note that you can only manage SQL Server 2005 servers with SQL Server Configuration Manager.

I really do not know how to resolve this. Please help. I just want to run my project smoothly.
Thank you.

2 Sec In Management Studios And 90 Sec From Vb.net

Nov 1, 2007

Hello,

I am hoping some of you can direct me to areas I should look into.

First off let me say that everything was fine and worked great up until 3 weeks ago.

Then all of a sudden we began to experience timeouts on a particular query.

The vb.net 2002 code has not changed and is pretty basic stuff to connect to the server and execute the query. The only change I have made to it since then is to add a commandtimeout parameter so it would actually run.

There does not seem to be a specific pattern either to when it runs slow and when it does not.

I can be the only one in the server in the morning (the only one in the office for that matter) and one day the application will execute the query and return data in under 9 seconds and the next day it will be a minute and a half.

I can test it during peak network times and the same thing...one day fine the next day performance is slow.

Also, if I run the query straight from the management studio it will run in 2-9 seconds and from .net it takes 20-90 seconds.

Are there server admin jobs I could run to see if tables are deadlocked, if the network is to busy..anything?

Sample Databases And Visual C# 2008

Nov 30, 2007

Hello. I have a little problem .
I have SQL Server Express 2005 installed on my machine. As well as SQL Server Management Studio. For some practice, I also installed the AdventureWorks sample database and attached it to the Server. When I open SQL Server Management Studio it's right there, in the Object Explorer, sitting nicely along with the master database and so on.
Now, I have recently installed Visual C# Express 2008, in order to explore this exiting new thing called LINQ (Language Integrated Query) . To do so, I created a new Project (say, WPF or Console application), and once the project is up and running it would be nice to attach some data to it so we can query that data and learn about LINQ.
There is a problem, however. On the main menu, I click on Data-Add new data source, choose Database, click on New Connection and the Add Connection window comes up. As a data source, I specify Microsoft SQL Server Database file.
For a database file name, I navigate to MSSQL.1/Data and in that folder, there it is, the AdventureWorks file. Now, here is the rub. When I try to attach this file, I get a window telling me that I don't have permission to open this file! Contact the file owner or administrator! How about that?!
Can anyone help? It would be very much appreciated!
Thanks.

Visual Studio/BIDS Out Of Memory Errors Opening Large DTSX Files

Jul 26, 2006

I'm currently experiencing major problems with SSIS when opening and editing large .DTSX package files that contain Exec DTS 2000 Tasks which have the package data loaded internally. I have no issues if I point the task to a .DTS file, or to an actual DTS package on a SQL 2000 server - but if I load the package internally then once the underlying .DTSX file gets over around 17MB or so in size (which doesnt take long making a few edits to even fairly simple packages now and then), I start to experience major issues with VS/BIDS 2005 crashing randomly when I try to perform any action with the package (open, save etc). Things like OutOfMemory exception errors, followed by the properties of Exec DTS 2000 task being deleted, and also sometimes accompanied by messages about the application not being installed properly.

Again its ONLY when the underlying .DTSX file reaches a certain size limit, and only when I've got an Exec DTS 2000 task with the package loaded internally. I've replicated the issue using several different package files on several different machines (even on servers with lots of memory, fwiw).

Can anyone out there help me with this? SSIS - namely SSIS Exec DTS 2000 package tasks - are our lifeblood at my company and this trend of random and serious crashing on large package files is very disturbing to say the least.

thanks,

Wil

Best Practice Configuring Visual Studio Solution For .SDF Databases

Dec 5, 2006

Hello,

In our company we haven't tamed Visual Studio yet for the part of configuring
the application database. Therefore I was wondering if there is someone that
can give me hints or clues on what the best practice is for configuring Visual
Solution to handle an SDF database (SQLCE 3.0). I have search a bit on the
internet and this forum, but couldn't find a decent how-to or best practices
guide that copes with this specific problem.

As
a matter of facts, i am also curious for guidelines and tips on the best way to
configure and manage SQL Server databases under Visual Studio. I guess (read as
hope) that the configuration of a mobile and full blown
database will have some overlaps somehow.

I've found the Database Project which with to manage (Create/Alter) databases,
but is this also the best way to store versions of the database in an
source repository? Can such a project allow me to 'automagically' have a
correct database (so with tables and data) when i want to deploy or debug my
device application?

I am asking this because now our database designers and software engineers have
to do allot of manual actions to update the application with the most recent
database version. SDF databases are flying around all over the place, and in
order to test a specific version of the application, the related database has
to be copied manually on the device. We are not searching for replication
related solutions, nor adding the SDF itself to the source repository, but because
most of our applications are server-client based, it would be really super cool
if we could somehow couple both database definitions and generation together. My
feeling says me there ought to be some feature embedded somewhere deep into
Visual Studio that we missed that would (partially) simplify and automate this
whole process for us.

Another
related question is if it is possible to couple XSD generated datasets to an
SDF database. Is it possible to update the generated code (or the describing
XSD documents) from an SDF database? i again guess that this somehow should be
possible in oderder to keep both code and data in sync, and i do not like the
alternative to always update the XSD when the SDF architecture changes. Somehow
i cannot find out how to do this. i was initially searching for the other way
around: Use an XSD to generate both the DataSet codewrappers and the database
itself.

Any
information is welcome and many thanks in advance!

Transactional Replication And Deadlock + Suspect Agent Errors For Over 80 Databases

Errors Creating A SQL2005 Express SP2 Database Under Vista

Nov 7, 2007

Hi,

I'm trying to migrate a MSDE based application into a SQL2005 Express SP2 DB Engine on Windows Vista Business but I'm facing several errors that are blocking me.
Since the installation of SQL2005 Expr. must be done in a silent mode (the end user shouldn't set anything), I'm installing it using this syntax:

SQLEXPRSP2_ITA.EXE -q /norebootchk /qb reboot=ReallySuppress addlocal=all instancename=CSERV DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0 SQLBROWSERAUTOSTART=1 SQLACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM" SQLBROWSERACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM" AGTACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM" ASACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM" RSACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM"

The installation proceeds without problems but when my program tries to create the database, a message error appears:

CREATE DATABASE denied on database 'master' (I translated directly from italian).
What I would like is to install SQL 2005 with "Windows Authentication" access instead of "SQL Authentication".

If I install SQL2005 manually by setting a named instance (CSERV), Windows Authentication mode, activating the option "set the local account as SQL administrative account" (translated from italian and suggested with Vista) I get the following error (read from the LOG):

CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 5 (access denied) while attempting to open or create the physical file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerCSERVDataCGIDBDat.mdf'

CSERVData is the folder that the application creates and where the "mdf" and "ldf" files are stored.

So in the first case it seems that SQL2005 don't recognize the local account as administrator even if the user has administrative privileges (at least for Vista), in the second case is Vista that is blocking the action.

What is the solution??

Thank you and regards.

Creating Over 100-databases.

Hi,

I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express for an application.

SQL Server 2005 Express supports 4GB user data per database. Because need over 4GB(may be 20GB ~ 30GB) data space, I should split database which each max size up to 200 MB. And create 100 databases.

Is it reasonable? If true, what about the performance or system's overhead?

Creating Reporting Databases

Sep 11, 2002

I have a reporting server with 5 databases which are currently being updated via log shipping. These databases need to be (read) accessed by the users. All users have System Admin perms due in order to access the databases. I need to tighten security on the server and remove SA perms from the users. The largest database is about 8gb and is growing slowly. What is the best way to move the databases efficiently from the source server to the reporting server? The log shipped databases can't be backed up and restored due to the standby mode. DTS is an option but may pose time issues due to database size especially as the databases grow in the future. Replication is another option but i have heard it has alot of issues. Any help is welcome. Thanks.

SQLCe Errors When Doing Developing A SQL Mobile Application With Visual Studio 2005 And SQL Server 2005 Tutorial

Feb 26, 2008

I'm attempting to use RDA to synchronize a pocket pc emulator with SQL Server 2005 database by following tutorial http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa454892.aspx, which uses AdvWorksMobile database that comes with SQL Server 2005.

When get to testing of "To test application features " ( step 4 of the merge replication setup lab ), I am receiving SQLCe Exception errors.

ORIGINALLY, I was able to deploy an application and view the local database on the emulator, but once I clicked "InitSinc" button, I received an error.

"Failure to connect to SQL Server with provided connection information. SQL Server does not" exist, access is denied because the SQL user is not a valid user on the SQL Server, or the password is incorrect.
Found this error listed in Server Agent Errors log http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms172357.aspx, but it wasn't very helpful since it doesn't provide any suggestions on fixing the problems.

I am brand new to SQL CE Server , mobile programming and .NET framework in general so please bare with me

All the connections / security settings, etc that were set up were taken from a tutorial so I am not sure what SQLCeServer is complaining about. Reading up on the error on the web didn't help, it all pointed to making sure that the snapshot folder had correct permissions set up. I verified that MACHINENAMEUISR_MACHINENAME guest user had Read rights to the database so I don't think that piece is the problem. Otherwise ,Merge publication has been setup in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio by following the tutorial.

I am trying to run this sync on my home pc so there should be no issues with any user permissions

I have IIS installed

I did NOT have SQL Server Agent running in management studio at this time

I am trying to run this tutorial on an XP machine, which is my regular home PC so I dont think there are any special networking settings to consider

I am able to hit http://localhost/AdvWorksMobile/sqlcesa30.dll from my pc OK, but when I try to hit it from a cradled emulator ( after replacing "localhost" with "MACHINE_NAME" ), Internet Explorer on the emulator gives me a "Cannot Connect With Current Settings" error message. This part wasn't part of tutorial but decided so not sure if I am supposed to be able to hit it from my emulator..so I am not sure if the fact that I can't hit it is related to the problem.
AFTER STARTING SQL SERVER AGENTin Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, I killed the application, and after relaunching it, it hits "The Specified table does not exist [Vendor]" error. This time it doesn't even launch first - that is I dont even get to pressing "InitSinc" button. Debugger is showing that this error is hit on the following line in AdvWorksMobile.AddWorksDataSetTableAdapters

int returnValue = this.Adapter.Fill(dataTable);

I am not sure why the errors changed on me after starting SQL Server Agent.
What can I do to fix this connection problem?

Thank you so much for your help!

Creating Databases On WinXP SP2 With SQL Server 2005 CE RC

Nov 28, 2006

Hi,

For various reasons a new desktop application I am developing is using the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Release Candidate to store local data. On my development machine (XP SP2, VS2005, SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition) the software is able to create the database file, and read and write to it fine.

However on our test machine, which does not have any of the development tools the software is unable to create the database. A System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException is thrown. The message is: "SQL Mobile usage is restricted on this platform. To use SQL Mobile, you must install SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005, or the Tablet PC SKU." Obviously this goes somewhat against the blurb for SQL Server CE.

Is this something that will be fixed shortly? Or is it the intention that databases can't be created on machines that do not SQL Server or Visual Studio installed? (Incidentally the reason for creating the database on the fly is that we are encrypting it, using the users credentials, so that only they can open the database.)

Thanks, Steve

Creating Relational Databases(Primary/Foreign Key?)

Jul 16, 2007

Hey everyone,
I have just started getting into to SQL and am completely brand new to the whole concepts of relational databases. Someone on this forum pointed to the MSDN videos on LEARNVISUALSTUDIO.NET which have been very helpful. Unfortunately while learning about relational databases and looking at the program that I want to design and make using them, I have run into a pretty big wall, concerning the primary key and foreign key.
For my program, I am trying to save an object, and lets say the base class is SLIDE. Now SLIDE will store basically most of the information that I will ever want to store, such as timeCreated and mainText and slideID(primarykey). But there are other classes that derive from slide that will store just a bit more information than that because of what they are. Lets say there is a class derived from SLIDE called PERSON that stores its parentNode, which is to say something that this slide specifically belongs to and has a reference to. Now the tricky part is that in this program, every single slide can have a reference to another slide, that you would see displayed and that you could just click on and view if you wanted to.
Now relating what I just told about the classes in my program to a relation database standpoint is what confuses me. If I make a table SLIDE, it would hold incomplete data about the PERSON object, because that object has more data than SLIDE has. The answer to this was to make another table called PERSON, which would have more columns. But now we arrive at the big problem: The primary key called maybe SLIDEID would be different in this new PERSON table than in the other table called SLIDE (or any other derived class). Therefore the link between these tables is messed up. In my object orientated mind I am thinking of static class variables that would still stay constant for derived classes, so that when I make a PERSON slide it will increment off of the primary key of the SLIDE table. In other words, is there some sort of super TABLE that you can derive from, like an abstract class, where the primary keys of other tables can build off of because they will be used as the same type of reference to eachother.
If none of this made sense to the reader, I am greatly sorry. I do not really know what else I can say to convey to you the problem I have. Maybe its because I am so used to object orientated languages that this is making it so difficult to explain. If however you do understand what I am talking about, please think about it and help me find a solution to this problem. I am not an experienced programmer, but I do very much enjoy it and I am very excited about starting to make this program, and I have learned that before I start coding it is very important to have a very firm design in mind first.
Thank your for reading,
Jeremy
