Errors Loading A Text File Into A Sql Server Destination

Apr 24, 2006

I am trying to load 14+ million rows from a text file into local Sql Server. I tried using Sql Server destination because it seemed to be faster, but after about 5 million rows it would always fail. See various errors below which I received while trying different variations of FirstRow/LastRow, Timeout, Table lock etc. After spending two days trying to get it to work, I switched to OLE DB Destination and it worked fine. I would like to get the Sql Server Destination working because it seems much faster, but the error messages aren't much help. Any ideas on how to fix?

Also, when I wanted to try just loading a small sample by specifying first row/last row, it would get to the upper limit and then picked up speed and looked like it kept on reading rows of the source file until it failed. I expected it to just reach the limit I set and then stop processing.

Dynamic Destination Flat File Loading

Jan 4, 2006

Here's what I want to do -

Dynamically load a flat file from a dynamic source table-

The source table metadata is known via the SYSOBJECTS and SYSCOLUMNS tables- I can pull the column names, type and lengths from these tables based on the table name. (my goal is pretty simple- pull data from a table in our database, and save it down to a flat file)

Would this be enough to dynamically create the destination flat file?  If so, how do I do it?

Thanks

SQL Server 2012 :: Loading And Reformatting Text File Data Into Table

May 29, 2015

I am looking for a way to convert the following format into a sql table. The format it is Bib Tex.

Essentially a new row in the table would be for each entry, denoted by an @ logo and each column is denoted by an =, as you can see from the example data no one contains all the possible columns and some fields can be over two lines long.

To load this I was considering loading it into a table as each line being a row. Adding a row number, then a column counting the @ signs in order and essentially grouping each record, then for each group running through and looking for the column keywords 'author' , 'title' etc then splitting the data out into those constituent parts using substring and charindex.

Import Text File Source Into SQL Server Destination

Dec 11, 2007

Hi all,
I got a unicode file source with this fields:
-DT_WSTR (100) originally is DT_STR(100)
-DT_WSTR (100) originally is DT_STR(100)
-DT_NTEXT
-DT_WSTR (20) originally is DT_DBTIMESTAMP
-DT_WSTR (5) originally is DT_BOOLEAN

I export a Query result to a File (see above) ...as unicode TXT destination.

OK, now I must to re-import into another DB and here is my difficult...'cause the DT_NTEXT is HTML code and I got always this error:
[Flat File Source [1050]] Error: The column delimiter for column "scheda" was not found.
Scheda field is the DT_NTEXT.

Into connection manager area I modify the advanced tab for the set-up of my fields setting all to:
Unicode string [DT_WSTR] with a variable of the len, but Try also to define everyone to the rigth type of the SQL destination like:

- DT_STR(100)
- DT_STR(100)
- DT_DTNTEXT
- DT_DBTIMESTAMP
- DT_BOOLEAN

In every type of action I see no message alert and all seem to be good, but when I try to execute got always same error...
So hope someone can help me...

SQL Server Destination Not Loading All Rows

Jan 23, 2008

I have a SSIS package that transfers data from three SQL Server 7 servers to a SQL Server 2005 database. This package has about 30 different tables it copies. The table structures in the source database and destination tables are identical. About 25 different tables load without any issues. I have about 5 tables that load some nights without a problem. On other nights, the data transfers seem to randomly (though usually the most recent records) ignore some of the data. I have logging turned on and receive no errors. It just appears to stop loading data.

I should also mention that I truncate each destination table before begining and each table is loaded from data from each of the 13 source database (I am combining data from 13 regional database for reporting purposes). This is done using a Foreach Loop Container that updates the Server/Region connection string for each region. I am using the OLE DB Source connection to the SQL Server Destination. I have tried as well with the OLE DB Destination with the same result (and no error). I do not do any manipulation to the data on the transfer, but added a "RowCount" transformation between the source and destination and it gives the correct number of rows, but not all the rows get loaded.

Text File Destination

Aug 29, 2006

Hi, I am new to SQL Server. Trying to convert a pc sas program to a SQL Server 2000 DTS package. Need fixed format comma delimited destination text file from a DB2 data source. Problem: SQL wants to make financial field 19 bytes long but I want it to be 12. Tried casting as a DECIMAL(7,2) but SQL still wants it to be 19 bytes long. Tried converting to CHAR but then it is still left-justified. I need decimal to be in the third byte from the right. Is this possible?

Correcting Invalid Dates From A Text File Before Loading SQL Table

I thought I would use a Derived Column transformation, but I don't know how to check a field to see if it is a valid date.

Scripting DTS DataPump To A Text File Destination

Oct 31, 2000

I am scripting a DTS Package using VB. The problem I am having is that I get the following error when I execute the package from Visual Basic:

Step Error Source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services Flat File Rowset Provider
Step Error Description:Incomplete file format information - file cannot be opened.

In the DTS Designer when I open the DataPump Transformation and click on the Destination tab I am prompted With the Define Columns dialog. I define the columns and click execute. The package works properly after doing this when executed from Enterprise Manager. Does anyone know how to script the file definition creation??? I have searched high and low through BOL and other resources and am not finding anything. I doesn't seem like it should be this hard to figure out so, maybe I am missing something.

Loading Flat File With Embedded Column, Text Delimiters And Newline

Jun 14, 2007

I have the misfortune of converting a DTS package to SSIS that loads a flat file that has a text fields that can contain embedded text delimiters ("), column delimiters (,) and even new lines (CR+LF i.e.,hex 0D 0A) in it. A sample line from the file is posted here, remember this is just one line though it shows as three lines, since the third field has embedded new line in it:

4,"Sam","EVP; MARKETING PRODUCT MANAGER ""Level I"",
Internet Sales / HELP
8005551212",100

If you open in excel it handles it perfectly showing four fields, as below, and this is what I want ( I cannot get it aligned right in the posting, just save the above line in *.csv and open to see what it should be):

4 Sam "EVP; MARKETING PRODUCT MANAGER ""Level I"", 100
Internet Sales / HELP
8005551212"

Now, SSIS errors on the embedded text delimiters and breaks into two or three lines based on which option I chose. I have tried few options based on postings in the forum:
a). Using undouble and undoubleout: Does not work when there are embedded column delimiters (,) in the text field
b). Modified undouble script posted by lvovg at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1718225&SiteID=1. Handles the embedded column delimiters (,) perfectly, but the embedded new lines (CR+LF i.e.,hex 0D 0A) are breaking it.
Since, I am using the ragged right format to read from the file then use transform script on the line by lvovg, the line is already broken by the ragged right format at the embedded new lines, hence does not work.

Right now I am stuck. Can someone please help (anyone from MS) ? I am already baffled at the amount of coding required to convert a very basic ( and working ) flat file load DTS package to SSIS. I am willing to persist bit longer to convert this to SSIS, before I give up and stick with DTS and wait for a fix / workaround.

Thanks.

Dynamically Configure Text File Destination In SSIS

Feb 7, 2008

Good Afternoon,

So this one has been bugging me for a while and I am ready to punt...

Is it possible to dynamically create a text file destination in SSIS and then pump the results of a query stored in a variable to this text file?

So my package looks like this
1) SQL task that pulls back a list of tables to be exported
2) For Each Loop ADO enum that passes the table name to a SQL Task that builds the select...ie select * from <DTS.Variables()>
3) Data flow task that sets the command from variable from step 2
4) Text File destinaiton that is built using a varable as the connectionstring

I am delaying validation in steps3 and 4 above without any luck...basically I am curious if i can even do what I am thinking I should be able to do here...I get as far as getting metadata errors because SSIS can't seem to handle dynamically filling the pipeline with the columns from the variable/SQL statement.

Am I missing something? Is this possible?!

Thanks in advance.
Dave

Dynamically Create Text File As Destination From Sql Script In SSIS

group by c.SKU_NO , vwMap.[DataSourceAllocName],a.Qty , b.Profit_Center

order by c.SKU_NO,vwMap.[DataSourceAllocName]

GO

i have to send the result of aforesaid script in batch of 300 records per file (tab delimited text file)
now the file name must be dynamically created as each file will contain 300 records.

I have found some document related to same issue on this url

Can any one guide/suggest me better way to do the aforesaid.

Problem Writing To Fixed Width Text File Destination

Oct 30, 2006

I am trying to export data from a query in SQL Server 2005 SSIS to a flat file destination. Everything works fine except the rows returned from my query are written to the flat file in one long string (i.e., without line breaks). I have tried appending a new line character to the rows returned from the query but that only throws an error when the package is executed. My rows returned from the query are 133 characters wide (essentially only one column per row) so I have set the properties accordingly for a fixed width file format with 133 character wide rows.

Any suggestions or ideas on how to correct this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Michael

Using Script Destination Object To Create And Write To New Text File

Jul 31, 2007

Is there a better way to do this?

We've all seen this, where it uses an individual .write statement for each column.

Code Snippet

Public Overrides Sub AWCCogent_ProcessInputRow(ByVal Row As AWCCogentBuffer)

With textWriter

Dim item As Object

If Not Row.AddressID_IsNull Then
.Write(Row.AddressID)
End If
.Write(columnDelimiter)
If Not Row.City_IsNull Then
.Write(Row.City)
End If

.WriteLine()

End With

End Sub

But hard coding this seems not the smartest way. Especially since in my text file, there needs to be close to 100 columns. This could be a nightmare to update down the road. But I can't seem to find the object collection to loop through, like row.items which would seem to be logical.

There's gotta be a better way, right Microsoft?

Attempt FASTLOAD If Error Perform Regular Data Flow Transfer And Redirect Errors To Text File

Feb 15, 2008

I'm having problems designing a package to attempt to execute a fast load data transfer but failback to regular speed with error redirection in the event of an error.

The way I designed this was to add one data flow task to my package called "DFT FASTLOAD". The data flow copies a table SRC to another table DEST in the same SQL Server database. In the error handler for the data flow task I copied the original data flow task and changed the name to "DFT REGULARLOAD with Error redirection". In this data flow task I did not use fast load and addtionally redirected errors to a text file.

In the Data Flow Task "DFT FASTLOAD". I am copying from a varchar source field(with non-date strings) to a datetime destination field to force errors. However the Data Flow Task "DFT REGULARLOAD with Error redirection" never seems to start transferring data from source to destination. The data Flow Task "DFT REGULARLOAD with Error redirection" turns yellow (after the error occurs in "DFT FASTLOAD"), but no data is being transferred). It seems like it hangs.

Do I need to increase the MaximumError Count or something? The data flow task "DFT FASTLOAD" does not turn red when the error occurs it just remains yellow, so i assume I'm on the right track since it seems the error is caught.

I have added screenshots ... hopefully these screenshots will clarify my problem.

I assume that this is caused by the no. of records im loading since the .xls file can only contain 65,000 records.... i tried using the .xlsx file but i guess it only accepts .xls.

What's the alternative to load to excel 2005 with this numbers of records?

I copied these T-SQL statements from a book and I do not know how to correct them.

Loading Data From .mdb File Into Sql Server 2005

Aug 15, 2007

I am so new to SQL Server 2005 and just studying.  Saying that...
We use SQL Server 2005 Express edition.  Some one sent me a file (info.mdb) and asked me to load the data in this file in to a table called Products and also asked me to load in another table (ProdCat) where id = 'X05'.
So being not knowing anyting regarding data loading etc, how should I do this and proceed?  The .mdb means its a Access database file?  If that is the case, I dont have Access in my machine and what should I do?

Excel Destination Errors For Fields &&> 255 Chars

Apr 13, 2007

Hi:

Am trying to write sql2005 data to Excel. I have problems when data length exceeds 255 chars. I used a sample destination file with cells containing >255 chars where required, so that the Excel Destination external column was recognized as DT_Text.

My oledb source columns(external and output) are both varchar (1000).

Works fine , but fails when values>255 chars.

Error 0xC0202009 on ProcessInput.

I use SQL2005 enterprise SP2.

I tried changing the Oledb source output to Textstream, but that does not work at all.

How do I export values >255 chars to excel?

TIA

Kar

SQL Server XML Destination - Nested XML File

Apr 15, 2008

I am creating an XML file from 'n' number of tables using Dataset.Writexml()

Now, I join tables using INNER JOIN and fill the resultset into a dataset (There is a foreign key called ID in each of the tables).

The resultant XML doesn't shows the nested nodes, It shows the nodes sequentially.

The Result I got was,

<Root>
<Name>
<FName>Fxxx</FName>
</Name>
<Name1>
<LName>Lxxx</LName>
</Name1>
</Root>

The FName and LName resides in different tables.

<Root>
<Name>
<FName>Fxxx</FName>
<Name1>
<LName>Lxxx</LName>
</Name1>
</Name>
</Root>

I have tried the DataTable Relations and Dataset merge.

Any work-around / Straight approaches ?

SQL Server 2012 :: Loading Image From File System Into Query Using Openrowset

May 14, 2014

I have a directory with images and a table in my DB with the path of each file. The main application allow me to create reports where I can display an image, so I was thinking to use a query like:

SELECT [ID]
,[PT_CODE]
,[FILE_PATH],
CASE WHEN [FILE_PATH] IS NOT NULL THEN
(SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET(BULK [FILE_PATH], SINGLE_BLOB) TT)
END
AS IMAGE_LOADED
FROM [DB].[dbo].[TABLE_MR_FILES]But I keep getting the error:

Incorrect syntax near 'FILE_PATH'.I have try multiple combinations without luck to make the OPENROWSET read the path stored in the column [FILE_PATH]. What am I missing?

Note: I am using MSSQL 2012. I don't want to import the images into the DB just load them in the fly as needed by the report runned from the application. I have full access to the DB so if a store procedure is the solution I can go with it.
