Errors When Uploading DDL And Data File Created By Database Publishing Wizard
Jul 17, 2007
Hi,
I needed to recreate/publish a DDL and data file(of a database) that was produced using Database Publishing Wizard. The size of the file is 4G. I receive the following error when I try to open it up in the new query window of sql server 2005 (sp2)for execution.
"The operation could not be completed. Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."
I know my server has 829G of free storage space available. i receive no errors when I open up a smaller file also created by database publishing wizard.
What possibly is causing this?
Thanks in advance

We are trying to script out database schema and data with the Database Publishing Wizard and are having problems with output script trying to create views and stored procedures before the tables they depend on.
I've seen discussion of this on their codeplex site and back in April 2007 they said that the CTP they just released fixed the problem - but we are still seeing it. Does anyone know a solution for this (beyond the obvious copy and pasting into the right order)?
What we are trying to do is move the SQL and some basic reference data into source control and a CI process.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had an idea if it's possible to run a stored procedure that would basically output a .sql file used to recreate the database elsewhere. kinda like the data publishing wizard does.

The SQL Server group at Microsoft has just launched the SQL Server Hosting Toolkit with the release of the Database Publishing Wizard Community Technology Preview 1.The objective of the SQL Server Hosting Toolkit is to enable a great experience around hosted SQL Server. The Database Publishing Wizard works toward this mission by making it easy to upload a database from a development box up to a shared hoster. In its first incarnation, the Database Publishing Wizard is a command line tool that generates a T-SQL script designed to be executed in the script execution windows provided by most hosters in their database management consoles. In the coming months we'll be adding a GUI and building seamless integration between the tool and an upload service we'll provide to hosters for deployment.Details on the Database Publishing Wizard as well as the download can be found at http://www.codeplex.com/Wiki/View.aspx?ProjectName=sqlhost&title=Database%20Publishing%20Wizard.We plan to be releasing advances in the Toolkit frequently so check out this first CTP and give us your feedback! Thanks,Dan WinnSenior Program Manager, Microsoft SQL Server

Hi some days ago i put a thread in this forum asking how can i publish my database on a shared server, and i was adviced to use Data Publishing Wizard Tool. But now i'm facing another problem, the database is on the server being filled with data by my clients throught the system that i'm developing but because the system is under construction i have to change some tables once in a while, something like add one or another constraint, add or fix an stored procedure, add for example a field named "Archive" so i dont delete data from the database instead i archive it.. this are the only changes i'm doing.. the database is well modelated so i don't need to do further changes ...
So my problem is how can i reflect this changes on the shared server without deleting the data that are already there? Is it possible, or i have to do it manualy on the server what i have already done on the database hosted on my localhost?!

I have a package in which there are only one Data flow Task and it has only three components. 1) Source , which is a SQL db 2) destination and 3) OLE DB Destination flat file Error output file.  I want the error file to be created ONLY if there is any error while dumping the data into destination DB. But , the issue is, the error flat file is being created inspite of No error while dumping the  data from Source to Destination.

How to add SQl statements to the package created by Export Data wizard? I need to add SQL coming from file, the flow would be like this:
1) SQL would drop all objects: (views, tables, stored procedures) etc
2) SQL would create all objects: (views, tables, stored procedures) etc
3) Export Wizard SSIS package would execute
Also is there a dynamic way to add more tables do the package once created in SQL database? I would like to put the whole task on a scheduler too...

I've been working with the Database Publishing Wizard and have found what I initially thought was a bug but have decided is a rather nasty "feature". Or am I missing something?
I have membership implemented in a live database. I took a backup and loaded it into a local database. I created a new table locally that is foreign-keyed off aspnet_roles, and added some data.
Using the Publishing Wizard for a partial deployment, I followed the steps which seem perfectly clear to script out ONLY the new table and its data. The screens provide a nice GUI for selecting specific database objects, and I carefully chose the one new table.
From good habits I looked at the script before deploying it. It drops and recreates aspnet_roles and aspnet_applications as well (and inserts the data from the development tables).
Presumably this is because of the foreign key relationships. But there's no need to do so. What if I or another developer had added in some roles to the live table in the meantime? This script would blow them away.
Am I missing an option with the Wizard that would script out only what is specified? I've tidied up the script (i.e. removed the undesirable sections) - but this seems to be a naughty wizard. Any thoughts?

I'm exploring using VS2013, TFS 2013 and Release Management for DB projects. In VS 2013 the deployment configuration is stored in the publishing profile, which is not necessarily being used by deployment tools. (Release Management for example, while it's supporting the profiles, it does not require them) So, the question is how to control what will happen in the target database when the publishing profile file is not being used?
Is there any way to store the deployment configuration with project so it will be applied by default? For example, if I want to control the following settings: Block incremental deployment if data loss may occur...Drop objects in the target DB that are not in the DB project, e.t.c.

Hi,
I have found a problem with my SSIS package. The package takes a Excel File using the Excel Source/Excel connection manager objects. There's a Data Conversion Object which sets all the fields to be DT_STR and then I import the data into a Holding table using a OLEDB Destination Object.
My Excel file contains a list of Code/Description pairs. The problem I have is that I can have data such as the following
CODE
A101
A102
A103
12
1.2i
What seems to be happening is that when the data is imported into the holding table and the first rows are Alphanumeric then the fields where there's a code such as 12 get converted to NULL for some reason. If all the codes are the same type (either Alphanumeric or numericit doesn't matter, as long as they are all the same) the import works perfectly well.
I need to be able to import all of these codes without SSIS converting some to NULL. Has anyone come across this problem before? If so, is there something I am doing wrong or a workaround?
Many thanks in advance
Rob

I was working on a flat file import spec yesterday, using the import wizard, and I saved my work as a SSIS package. Today, if I connect to Integration Services through SQL Management Studio, I can see the package, but I can't edit it. I've tried to open the package using BIDS, but I can't find it on the server. Obviously it exists, but where?
How the heck can I edit this package? And, where is it? I don't understand why things are so much more difficult in 2005 vs. 2000.
Thanks.

Hi allI have a question concerning sql database mdf files. In the old days I would user a ms access database. This file would be stored with the actual web files and would utilise a dsn connection. I have noted when designing with vwd 2005 express it allows you to use 2 methods of creating a mdf database. You can either create it as an attachment mdf or you can create it directly using sql manager. My question is, if you create the mdf database as an attachement file can you store it in the same manner as if you where using a ms access database, meaning can you store it with the web site's files so it uses the file storage allocated size and then create a connection similar to a dsn (but for sql) to the isp's sql engine or does it have to be uploaded to the isp' s sql server. The reason for this question is some of my customers do not want to pay the extra cost to have an sql allocation, however I do not want to go back to using old asp methods to create advanced sites as I prefer using stored procedures. Any help will be appreciated

I built a packaage in SSIS with the import/export utility. It created a Package.dtsx and Package1.dtsx. Both of these files seem to be XML files. I want to understand how these files work. For example, in the package I built I had about 80 tables exporting and importing data. Some of them I want to allow the identiy insert and delete the rows first. Others I want to append the data. How can I find the code or settings that does this? Or where can I find the options on the gui interface to change these settings. When I search the code I can't even find a some of the tables that are being transferred.

Hello,
I took our SYBASE DDL and created the tables on an SQL Server Express datbase on a PC and then downloaded our data from UNIIX using the WinSCP utility and BULK Inserted the data into the SQL Server database and everything uploaded fine apparently, but when we go to use the data we are getting some data differences.
Do you know of any data conversion issues that may be coming into play here maybe?
Thanks very much!

Hi,
I have a table need to export to excel. 3 columns are 4000k. I can create the ssis package by using import and export wizard and it works fine. But when I try to edit the destination connection for excel, like using another excel file. In the edit window, the Name of the Excel Sheet box is empty, I click new button. It always fail. (with the 3 columns created as varchar (4000) or nvarchar(4000).
I am wondering how import and export wizard can create this table which I can't create it manually?
Thanks

trying to get a new database created then running a script to created the tables, relationships, indexes and insert default data. All this I'm making happen during the installation of my Windows application. I'm installing SQL 2012 Express as a prerequisite of my application and then opening a connection to that installed SQL Server using Windows Authentication.Â
E.g.: Data Source=ComputerNameSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=master;Integrated Security=SSPI; Then I run a query from my code to create the database eg: "CREATE DATABASE [MyDatabaseName]".
From this point I run a script using a Batch file containing "SQLCMD....... Myscriptname.sql". In my script I have my tables being created using "Use [MyDatabaseName]   Go  CREATE TABLE [dbo].[MyTableName] .....". So question is, should I have [dbo]. as part of my Create Table T-SQL commands? Can I remove "[dbo]."? Who would be the owner of the database? If I can remove the [dbo]., should I also remove dbo. from any query string from within my code?

I have just started in a brand new role where I need to collect a large amount of diverse data. Part of this data is whether the steps in a guideline has been followed ( a simple check box or yes/no) (but there are maybe 100 guidelines)
My IT department have suggested we use SQL to create the database, but this will obviously take time. In the meantime my boss is keen that I get on with the data collection before the database is ready. I do not want to repeat steps when I create the SQL database so is there any format you would recommend I collect my data in now that can be easily applied to the SQL database - ie if I used Excel, would that be best, and should I then try to keep potential SQL table data separate?

I have yet to create a query string that works and it is beginning to drive me insane. I am trying to allow a user to upload a word document into my SQL 2000 database. However I always seem to get an error when it comes time to insert the file. The table has 5 fields memnumber, papertitle, and file type are all varchar. Length is an integer and actual_file is of type image. Here is my string
command = "INSERT INTO resumes (memnumber, papertitle, length, filetype, actual_file) VALUES ( '" & TextBox1.Text & "', '" & rightname & "', " & length & ", '" & type & "', " & filer & ")"
I can't tell you how many different versions of this string I have tried to run with none of them working, so the errors I have gotten have been varied. Most of them tell me either I can't use the & operator with file type image or that string or binary data would be truncated.

I have coded a connection string that works fine on the development machine but upon publishing to another machine I am getting the following error message:
Cannot open database "name of database" requested by the login. The login failed. Login Failed for user "machine nameuser name".
The remote machine has SQL server express installed.
Now on the development machine the machine name and user names are different to that on the remote machine. I am using Windows Auth. The application successfully runs on the remote machine. It even updates the same database (as mentioned in the issue above) on a different form which all connection strings etc were created automatically by c#. I'm pretty new to all this and don't know where to go from here.
