Sql Table From Excel File
May 7, 2008I am creating a sql table from an excel file that contains closing prices for the SP500. The first column contains all the tickers and the proceeding columns represent different days with the appropriate closing price to match the ticker. Thus, the first column has the header "Ticker" and all subsequent columns have headers in the form "MM/DD/YYYY". When i try to create a sql table from this file, the first column header shows up, but none of the other headers do. What am I doing wrong?

Jun 6, 2008Hi folks. I am having an excel file. I need to import this file to database and update some other tables with data contained in this file. I would like to automate this process as much as possible.
Now, I am just using SQL Server Import Wizard to create a table and then I am running an update query. Is there any (more automate) way to do this?

Certain Numeric Fields Not Read From The Excel File When Using A Excel File Source.
Jul 20, 2006I have the Excel Connection Manager and Source to read the contents from an Excel file. For some reason couple of numeric fields from the Excel worksheet are brought over as nulls even though they have a value of 300 and 150. I am not sure why this is happening. I looked into the format of the fields and they are set to General in Excel, I tried setting them to numeric and that did not help.
All the other content from the excel file is coming thru except for the 2 numeric fields.
I tried to bring the contents from the excel source to a text file in csv format and for some reason the 2 numeric fields came out as blank.
Any inputs on getting this addressed will be much appreciated.

I'm developing a website for a Prepaid Calling Cards distributor. Each of the cards they sale have a list of the countries the card is good for. I need to import this data into my countries_rates table. The file they are giving me is an excel file that contain 3 colums (fields)
1- Country-Name
2- Rate
3- Card_$_Price
these files contain aproximaly 400 rows so it will be a hasle to have to insert it manually every week.
In my web application I need to create a form where the user will select the card from a dropdownlist and then find the excel file to be imported for that card.
I would like to know how do I do that with Visual Studio 2005, SLQ 2005 and C#
please direct me to some links where I can learn how to do this or please send me some code snips I can see how is done.

Everything seems to be ok except for the "Where FMStyle" is giving me a message Invalid Column name on FMStyle. Do I need to qualify FMStyle and if so how.
Any Way To Export Table To Excel File With Leading 0s?
Feb 7, 2008I have to export about 50 excel files from different tables. Some tables contain leading 0s in the columns. If I use bcp to export to xls file, the leading 0s will be missing. If bcp to csv or txt file, there will be no issue at all. But I have to export to xls file in order to let client update that xls file and reload to tables again.
Is there any other ways to do this task?

SSIS Excel Into Table Or Text File (dont Ask)
Jan 30, 2008I have an excel file source, that has a column that is a date column, although the group puts in more that just a date sometimes: example (11/1/2007) or (Sold), the problem is I cant get SSIS to ever see anything but the date, for the cells that have Sold shows me null, or blank when doing a view. Any thoughts??? I am starting to hate excel more and more.

I need to export data from a table of SQL server 2000 database, into an Excel 2000 sheet. I tried following query from the sql query analyzer

It gave me following error
Code SnippetServer: Msg 2760, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Specified owner name 'Excel 4.0;Database=F:ew.xls' either does not exist or you do not have permission to use it.
The F:ew.xls file is present and it has no additional security applied, hence I think it should be writable.
Please tell me where am I doing wrong.

Exporting A Table With Changing Column Names To An Excel File
Oct 25, 2006I'm trying to write an SSIS package that exports a table that has changing column names to an excel file. The column names change due to the fact that the table is created by a pivot daily. the only thing I'm missing is the ability to dynamically map the tables' columns to the excel destination. Is this possible?
I read in another thread that
"It is not possible to create packages or new objects within packages using SSIS."
I also read in the books online that "The input and the input columns of the Excel destination have no custom
properties." To me this means that I cannot programmatically create or remove columns in the excel destination. Please tell me I'm wrong.
So, to summarize my research so far. In writing an SSIS package, I cannot programmatically create a new excel destination object and I can't manipulate an existing one. I hope I'm wrong. Can anyone help me? (and please correct any wrong assumptions I may have stated)

This excel file contains several rows (some of them may be blank) and columns (also some may be blank). The file is stored in an image object.The file will be checked (they want to do it manually, because contents is a problem). If they say it is OK, I want to run a program to add a record into an existing table with the request no. (from the first table, where the object is stored) and all the information available from the filled rows (first row is header). I have a column, which can be checked, if the row contains data or not.Any ideas?I know how to read from and write the contents of the object to a field in the SQL table. Jul 31, 2013I am working on an HR project and I have one final component that I am stuck on.
I have an Excel File that is loaded into a folder every month.
I have built a package that captures the data from the excel file and loads it into a staging table (transforming a few bits of data).
I then combine it with another table in a view.
I have another package that loads that view into a Master table and I have added a Slowly Changing Dimension so that it only updates what has been changed. (it’s a table of all employees, positions, hire dates, term dates etc).
Our HR wants to have this data in a report (with charts and tables) and they wanted it to be in a familiar format. So I made a data connection with Excel loading the data into a series of pivot tables.
I have one final component that i cant seem to figure out. At the end of every year I need to capture a count of all Active Employees and all Termed employees for that year. Just a count.
So the data will look like this.

The data is in one table labeled [EEMaster]. To test the count I have the following.

this returns the HistoricalHC for 2013 as 418.

This returns the Number of Termed employees for 2013 as 42.
I have created a table to report from called [dbo.TORateFY] that I have manually entered previous years data into.

I need a script (or possibly a couple of scripts) that will add the numbers every year with the year that the data came from.

Im creating a DTS Package. The source data will be coming from an excel file going to my SQL table. The DTS package is scheduled to execute daily, but the source data will be coming from different excel filename.
Example, today the DTS will get data from Data092506.xls. Then tomorrow, the data will be coming from Data092606.xls.
How can I do this? The DTS I've already done has a fixed source data file.

How Do Create Table From Excel (based On Excel Column Name) And Import Data From It?

l've some excel files controlled by Vendor which changing frequently. The only thing does not change is the header name of each column.
So my question is, is there any way to create a new table based on the excel file selected including the column name in SSIS? So that l can use the data reader as source to select those columns l am interested on and start the integration.

Integration Services :: Excel Destination With Run Date-1 Inside File Not The File Name
Aug 26, 2015I have a ssis package where I need to have excel destination. In the Excel file, I need to have few rows with some text and then populate data below the text. One the text is like this:
Data as of: 08/25/2015
if the report ran today, then Data as of will have Yesterday. So, if the user opens that excel file after a week, then user should see same Data as of: 08/25/2015. not today()-day(1).
I was planing to handle on excel side with today()-day(1). but it only works the day it was run. Then the excel file is open after few days later, then it might as Data as of: 08/30/2015 which is not true. It should still stay Data as of:
08/25/2015 on what ever date the excel file is open. The SSIS package runs only once.
How do I handle this so that whenever user open the file, they will see Data as of: 08/25/2015. This is not a column in excel. It is like a description of data in excel.

Excel file contains monthly revenue details, i wanna import the excel data to my database staging table, so i've created the package.
its working fine...
Problem
if we change the new data for the next month and running the package its not running;
the same file, same format, only we delete the contents, of the file except first row of the excel sheet,
and pasting the new data;
new data is coming from Oracle DataBase in the form of excel sheet ( manually they will copy the data and sending to us)
i open that package in design mode and while double clicking the excel file source it says <column name>'s Meta Data needs to be synchronized
Do you want to Fix this issue automatically with the available external column's meta data
Clearly noted that its a data type issue; i have changed the corresponding data types as it is in the previous Excel sheet which is equivalant to the Table its copying to.
now the package is running with validation warnings, External Column "Invoice Amount" needs to be updated...etc. some 2 or three warning messages i can able to see in the package Execution wizard,
ok, i'm ready to accept these warnings, and i want my package running from my server;( packages had been deployed in to the Centeralized server; every time if we want to run the package, we have the asp.net webpage, that is executing the package in an On_click event)
The package is not running from the server, its due to the meta data change in the Excel file( i guess)
please suggest me some guide lines to resolve this meta data issue, i want my excel sheet meta data should not change when we have new updates in it;
otherwise suggest me some solutions that i can validate the excel sheet before running the package and testing whether the data is in correct format or not? its a kind of Data Profiling activity;
i know its some what crazy, but i need to maintain the system with permanent solution, instead of facing this meta data mismatch issue!!!

CSV File Saved As An Excel File - Error Message
Aug 2, 2007I hope someone can help me with this - I started receiving this error message in the past month or so when I open a csv report and save it as an Excel file in a folder I use on my VPN and in My Documents. It does not show up when I save it to my Desk Top.
I have Microsoft Office Student and Teacher and Office XP Professional installed on my notebook. I tried to uninstall Office XP and it would not let me. Something about a "patch could not be opened......"
The error message is as follows:
Header: .NET-BroadcastEventWindow.2.0.0.0.33c0d.0.EXCEL.EXE-Application Error
Excel error message The instruction at 0x0beab865 referenced memory at "0x00000008"
The memory could not be "read".
Click ok to terminate the program.
I hope someone could please help me with this I received 60 - 80 csv files a week and everythime I save on I get this pop up message!
