Exception Reporting SSRS VS SAP BI
Feb 15, 2008
In SAP BI we have capacity for Exception Reporting under BEx Query Designer.
ie
· Determining threshold values or intervals that are given a priority (bad, critical, good). The priority given to an exception corresponds to pre-assigned colors that become more €˜intense€™ the greater the deviation. Up to 9 different shades of the traffic light colors red, yellow, and green are used. These traffic light colors are also used in the alert monitor to display the results of exception reporting.
Do we in SSRS have the aforesaid capacity?
I have seen IIF function but it act as a flag not actually color that particular cell or am i missing something.

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to figure out, how I can solve following problem. I need to generate an overview of a department (parameter) of their employees which have visited a course (2nd parameter) and which haven't. For this I'm working with following tables:
- Employee Data (incl. Unit Code)
- Participant Table (one employee can have none, one or more entries - for every participation she/he gets one entry)
- Course Table (with details of the course - out of here I need to choose the course)
The participant table is merged to the course table over a course # (primary key in course table). The employee data is merged to the participant table over an employee #.
Which data I can generate until now:
- Participants of the course of the chosen department
- Employees which have never visited a course of the chosen department
and
- Employees which haven't visited the specific course but have visited an other one
---> my problem now, is to get those employees which haven't participated at the specific course but participated in an other one together with the ones which have participated. When I set a filter for the course number "NOT = 224847362" then I receive all those, which have participated in an other course - that's ok - but as mentioned before, an employee can participate in more than just one course. Thus when I make an UNION I get double entries - one for the participation and one for the "participation in an other course".
Can someone help? That would be fantastic!
Cheers,
Swisscougar

Currently we are using Custom Delivery Extension for SSRS 2008R2 We are planning to move it SSRS2012
My Question is: Whether we can use the same Code used for SSRS2008R2 to SSRS2012?
if not what code changes we should do?

I have a particular report that fails to run. In the browser, the following is shown when the report is run:The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version.There is an error in XML document (1, 84459).'', hexa decimal value 0x01, is an invalid character. Line 1, position 84459.
When I look into the SSRS logs, I find the following:

There are no other system logs at the corresponding time of this failure.Other reports that use the same data source run fine. This problem is confined to a few reports within a larger report set. The reports are provided by a third-party so I don't have a lot of insight to what the report is actually doing.This is running on SSRS 2008 R2.

I am running SQL Express with Reporting Services 2005 SP2.
Installed both on with the NT-AuthorityNetwork Service
I uploaded a report and I can execute it in the Report Manager.
What I want to do is execute the report via Webservice and stream the result as PDF.
Code SnippetReporting.ReportExecutionService svc = new Reporting.ReportExecutionService();
svc.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
svc.LoadReport(report, historyID);
svc.SetExecutionParameters(parameters, "en-us");
byte[] results = svc.Render(format,deviceInfor,out fileNameExtension,out mimeType,out encoding,out warnings,out streams);
this.Response.Clear();
this.Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
this.Response.AddHeader("Content-disposition", "attachment; filename=Report.pdf");
this.Response.BinaryWrite(results);
this.Response.End();
this is my code in the asp.net page
and I get following exception

Looks like I need some additional adjustment on the authentication. But I do not know where and how.
I try to change the webservice identity but after changing the user identity of the application pool in iis ( I think this is the only way to change webservice identity) I got the error message service unavailable in IIS. With this I also couldn't start the webfront end any more. Switching back to NT-AuthorityNetwork Serive the web front end worked again.
I tryed to add
Code Snippet<identity impersonate="true" />
to the web config and I get the same Error on the webserver account...
It would be great if someone could help me to adjust the settings...

Greetings everyone, I am attempting to build my first application using Microsofts Sql databases. It is a Windows Mobile application so I am using Sql Server Compact 3.5 with Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2. When I try and insert a new row into one of my tables, the app throws the error message shown in the title of this topic.
'((System.Exception)($exception)).Message' threw an exception of type 'System.NotSupportedException'
My table has 4 columns (i have since changed my FavoriteAccount datatype from bit to Integer)
http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k71/Scionwest/table.jpg
Account type will either be "Checking" or "Savings" when a new row is added, the user will select what they want from a combo box.
Next is a snap shot of my startup form.
http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k71/Scionwest/form.jpg
Where it says "Favorite Account: None" in the top panel, I am using a link label. When a user clicks "None" it will go to a account creation wizard, and set the first account as it's primary/favorite. As more accounts are added the user can select which will be his/her primary/favorite. For now I am just creating a sample account when the label is clicked in an attempt to get something working. Below is the code used.
private void lnkFavoriteAccount_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
FinancesDataSet.BankAccountRow account = this.financesDataSet.BankAccount.NewBankAccountRow();
account.Name = "MyBank Checking Account";
account.AccountType = "Checking";
account.Balance = Convert.ToDecimal("15.03");
account.FavoriteAccount = 1;//datatype is an integer, I have changed it since I took the screenshot.
financesDataSet.BankAccount.Rows.Add(account);
//The next three lines where added while I was trying to get this to work.
//I don't know if I really need them or not, I receive the error regardless if these are here or not.
this.bankAccountTableAdapter1.Update(financesDataSet);
this.financesDataSet.AcceptChanges();
refreshDatabase();
}
the refreshDatabase() code is here:
private void refreshDatabase()
{
this.bankAccountTableAdapter1.Fill(this.financesDataSet.BankAccount);
//Aquire a count of accounts the user has
int numAccounts = financesDataSet.BankAccount.Count;
//Loop through each account and see which one is the primary.
for (int num = 0; num != numAccounts; num++)
{
//Works ok in frmMain_Load, but when my lnkFavoriteAccount_click calls this, it throws the error.
if (this.financesDataSet.BankAccount[num].FavoriteAccount == 1)
{
//Display the primary account on our home page. User can click the link label & be taken to their account register.
this.lnkFavoriteAccount.Text = this.financesDataSet.BankAccount[num].Name.ToString();
this.lnkFavoriteFunds.Text = this.financesDataSet.BankAccount[num].Balance.ToString();
break;
}
}
}
and my form_load code
private void frmMain_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
refreshDatabase();
}
So, when I click on the lnkFavoriteAccount label, and my new row gets added, the app stops at the following line in my DataSet.Designer
[global:ystem.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCodeAttribute()]
public byte FavoriteAccount {
get {
try {
return ((byte)(this[this.tableBankAccount.FavoriteAccountColumn]));
}
catch (global:ystem.InvalidCastException e) {
//Stops at the following line, this error was caused by 'if (this.financesDataSet.BankAccount[num].FavoriteAccount == 1)'
throw new global:ystem.Data.StrongTypingException("The value for column 'FavoriteAccount' in table 'BankAccount' is DBNull.", e);
}
}
set {
this[this.tableBankAccount.FavoriteAccountColumn] = value;
}
}
I have no idea what I am doing wrong, all of the code I used I retreived from Microsofts help documentation included with VS2008. I have tried used my TableAdapter.Insert() method and it still failed when it got to
if (this.financesDataSet.BankAccount[num].FavoriteAccount == 1)
in my refreshDatabase() method it still failed.
When I look, the data has been added into the database, it's just when I try to retreive it now, it bails on me. Am I retreiving the information wrong?
Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

We've got a requirement to build the real time report. user can browse report at any point of time and need to see the latest data(stock market) in the report.
I've few options down...
1. Directly point to OLTP database as source and write stored procedure to show result set.
2. Replicate the database and write the SP's to reports. To avoid pointing directly to OLTP db.
3. To build the datawarehouse with dim & facts to show it in reports. I prefer this as a standard method, but this would have some latency depending on trasaction load which will differ from the requirement.

Hi,
I got an strange problem with one of my packages.
When running the package in VisualStudio it runs properly, but if I let this package run as part of an SQL-Server Agent job, I got the message "The script threw an exception: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown." on my log and the package ends up with an error.
Both times it is exactly the same package on the same server, so I don't know how the debug or even if there is anything I need to debug?

Hey everyone...I'm completely new to SQL Server and I'm trying to learn the Reporting Services tool. I just installed SQL Server 2005 and selected to install all the options, atleast I'm 99.99% sure I did.
When I go to launch Report Services Configuration, I get "No report servers were found on the specified machine. Details: Invalid namespace". Do I need IIS for this to work?
Also, I do not think the AdventureWorks database was installed, I cannot seem to find it anywhere. I have tried to go back through and reinstall it, but it says that it is already installed.
Also, is there a certain order that you are supposed to install things? i.e. SQL Server before Visual Studios?
Thanks in advance.
*Edit* BTW, I'm using Windows XP, SQL Server Enterprise Edition, and VS.NET 2005.

I am using VS 2010 and the SSRS that came with it. I am sure its SSRS 2008. Anyway, I added a report file to the project, added an ObjectDataSource and connected this to SQLServer 2008, and display the dataset on the report. The report is using ScriptManager, ReportViewer1, and Report1.rdlc file. I preview the dataset and I have multiple row returned. The problem is I only have one row displayed on the report. Maybe I did a quick and dirty report? What setting of properties did I missed?

We are trying to use reporting services to execute a url when the SSRS report is executed. For example when I execute a SSRS report I would like the report to automatically access [URL] (as an example). The reason we are doing this is we want to access another reporting application but record the number and times of access via the reporting services execution tables/views. Is this achievable by putting some code in the Report properties. Can you open - execute url and then close report via some code.

I have tried different techniques to design the report but no luck,
1) design staff 5 days schedule as a calendar between two dates andÂ

I was trying to have multivalue options in a ssrs report, and I used this query Â
SELECT {[Measures].[Sales Amount],[Measures].[Tax Amount]} on columns,non empty([Product].[Color].[Color],[Product].[Product Name].[Product Name]) on rows
from
( selectÂ
(STRTOSET(@color))
 on columns
 from [Analysis Services Tutorial])
But the report only showed the default value as an option(in this format [Product].[Color].&[Multi] whic is not presentable),and what I also noticed in the parameter option is that, the available values option is set to none , also when I try to use get from query , it does not give me the vales for the parameters,and when I right click the designer pane it does not have the show hidden dataset option.I have created the parameter with multivalue option. what can I do to get the multivalue option to work.

My system environment: win2008 R2 SP1 64bit + SQL 2005 SP4 32bit
I amended the configuration file of rsreportserver.config with the below:
<Extension Name="CSV" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.CsvRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.CsvRendering" >
  <Configuration>
  <DeviceInfo>
   <Encoding>UTF-8</Encoding>
  </DeviceInfo>
  </Configuration>
  </Extension>
If I run the report and then click export by selecting the csv format, it looks ok with the encoding of UTF-8.
However, the same report , when I created a subscription and saved it in the hard driver. Its encoding became USC-2 Little Endian.

When the SSRS report exported to CSV file, all the column headers are added in the first row. The issue here is, I have hidden( thru Visibility property) some of the columns in the report but those columns are also displayed in the header row(first row)CSV file and the blank values for their corresponding data.for example, I have displayed only below 3 columns out of 6 columns in the report.col1, col2, col3but the CSV generated as below:
format..col1,col2,col3,col4,col5,col6a1,a2,a3,,,b1,b2,b3,,,c1,c2,c3,,,
I don't want the highlighted items.The TableColumn Visibility property has been setup as below..
=IIF(Fields!col4.IsMissing, TRUE, FALSE)
When the report is exported to other formats(like Excel,XML..)Â this works fine.. i.e., no hidden columns are displayed.

I have below query which is working fine in SQL but if i use same query in SSRS dataset then it is not working at all.If i put only one condition in where clause then it works but if i put multiple conditions then it does not works in SSRS and through error "data is not available".
SELECT id,
DATEDIFF(DAY, Created, BMTRequestReviewDate) AS 'EvaluateDays',
all code goes here
FROM [dbo].[SBWT_Data]
WHERE
upper(Status) not like '%XX%'
AND upper(Status) not like '%DELETED%'
upper(Status) not like '%CLOSED%'
---OR
WHERE Status NOT IN ('90 - Closed','XX - Rejected','XX - Request Rejected','XX - Deleted')
As you can see in code i have tried with both where conditions but it is not working. It seems that SSRS does not supports multiple conditions for same field.

From the image above, I am totaling the column HHMMSS is SSRS with the below expression:
=CStr(sum(CInt(split(Fields!HHMMSS.Value,":")(0)))+sum(CInt(split(Fields!HHMMSS.Value,":")(1)))60)
&":"& CStr(sum(CInt(split(Fields!HHMMSS.Value,":")(1))) mod 60+sum(CInt(split(Fields!HHMMSS.Value,":")(2)))60)
&":"& CStr(sum(CInt(split(Fields!HHMMSS.Value,":")(2))) mod 60)
I equally tried:
=iif(Fields!HHMMSS.Value = "", "", CStr(sum(CInt(split(Fields!HHMMSS.Value,":")(0)))
+sum(CInt(split(Fields!HHMMSS.Value,":")(1)))60)
&":"& CStr(sum(CInt(split(Fields!HHMMSS.Value,":")(1)))
mod 60+sum(CInt(split(Fields!HHMMSS.Value,":")(2)))60)
&":"& CStr(sum(CInt(split(Fields!HHMMSS.Value,":")(2))) mod 60))
and nothing works. What could be wrong with my expression?

The data source is Fetch XML - so all the values are string.I need to sum the values but getting an error:
Warning  1      [rsAggregateOfNonNumericData] The Value expression for the textrun ‘Textbox25.Paragraphs[0].TextRuns[0]’ uses a numeric aggregate function on data that is not numeric.  Numeric aggregate functions (Sum, Avg, StDev, Var, StDevP, and VarP) can only aggregate numeric data.I tried converting it to INT but it returns a large number which does not match what I'm expecting.

Previously I was using SSRS to create a local website(native mode) for our domain users to access. I wonder whether it is possible to share the website to outside users(just like youtube, everyone can access it). Is there a possible way to achieve that?

I am using SQL Server 2005 and SSRS 2005, and I am trying to display a PDF (image datatype, application/pdf filetype) from a SQL Database. Â There is no MIME option for PDF, so it seems my options are limited. Â Is there a way to display the PDF, or maybe convert the binary data at the database level?
