Execute Access Database As SQL Server Jobs
Nov 21, 2006
Hi
While we are migrating Access Database to SQL Server, we would like to keep the Access Database running on schedule in steps until we migrate everything in SQL Server. I have created a SQL Server Job under “Operating System Command (CmdExec) and in command, pointed where the Access Database is located.
I have created this job as an Admin, so admin has full rights. But when I run this job it does not execute Access Database and gives an error. Following (under dotted line) is the error from Event Log.
…………………………………………………..
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: SQLSERVERAGENT
Event Category: Job Engine
Event ID: 208
Date: 11/21/2006
Time: 9:15:53 AM
User: N/A
Computer: SqlServer01
Description:
SQL Server Scheduled Job 'Test' (0x86BC5A6881DF1E48BF270E6513B2A0DD) - Status: Failed - Invoked on: 2006-11-21 09:15:51 - Message: The job failed. The Job was invoked by User admin. The last step to run was step 1 (test).
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
……………………………………………………
I had replaced access database with some exe file then ran the job. Job ran fine. Why SQL Server job is not able to execute Access Database?
Note: SQL Server has Access Database installed.
Please let me know. I know this is not a very common situation but this is also an option available to utilize.
Thanks
Rashid

Dear all,
I want to grant a user permissions to run Jobs in SQL Server 2000. I can' seem to find any appropriate roles for that. Do I need to assign him a server role? In that case, which? Many thanks.

What permissions/roles/etc. are necessary for a SQL login to see and start jobs.
Thanks, I'm having trouble with sp_start_job (it says job does not exists, that another user can run just fine...)

Is there a way to grant a group of users the ability to execute some jobs on a server, but restrict their access to others.
We'd like to grant our developers the permission to execute their jobs (many developers and we'd like to avoid a shared account) without giving them the ability to execute our backup, reindex, etc jobs.
Is there a way to grant execute on some jobs, but not all to a Windows group?
We're using the new msdb SQLAgent role to allow them to see all jobs and view output, but there doesn't seem to be a way to grant execute on specific jobs only.
Thanks

We have our SQL Server 2005 hosted at a datacenter and have only SS Management Studio access (no term serv, no event log, etc.). Also, our hosting company has disabled the Database Mail feature. We have over 60 jobs running on a minute/hourly/daily basis that are critical for our business. It is super important for us to know if and when a job failed.
Given this scenario, how do you suggest we implement monitoring/notification of failed jobs?

I have recently upgraded to SQL2014 on Win2012. The Access front end program works fine.
But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013. The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.Â
I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.

Hi,
I have a user who has created several SQL7 databases and uses a VB app which schedules jobs (under the sa account) on the SQL server. How can I allow this user to view scheduled jobs on the server ? I don't want to give him too many priviledges.
Thanks,
Tim

I have a database which contains a stored procedure. The stored procedure contains an update script to a different database. The user group have access to the database that stores the stored procedure but do not have update rights to the database that contains the data that is being updated.
Therefore, every time the user group executes the stored procedure it fails because the security permissions do not propagate to the next database.
Is there anything I can do to get around this without grant dbo permissions to the whole user group.

our clients have the flexibility to detach and attach databases (I know there are a lot of considerations around this but there is now way of changing it), once they attach a database we need to run some code to update a bunch of values in the database.
Other than creating a SQL Agent job are there any other options available to automatically execute a script once the database has been attached?

I've been struggling with this issue,
1) Test--FolderName (This Test folder name should use as a database name for below sub folders)
a)Create--Sub Foldername
i)create.sql
b)Alter---Sub FolderName
i)Alter.sql
c)Insert---Sub FolderName
i)Insert.sql
[Code] .....
The scripts need to be run in order. So script one needs to run first folder in that sub folders after that next second folders etc..
Is there a way to create a bat file that automatically runs all these scripts, in order against, the databases they need to?
The databases that they need to run against have the name of the database at the beginning of the name of the folder.

Hi.
I have made a managed stored (external) procedure and a assembly using Sql Server and VS.
Testing this with EXEC dbo.SqlServerProject3 gives not the wanted output, only "Command(s) completed successfully".
When I test the same C# code from an console application (exe) the program is ok.
EXEC master ..xp_cmdshell 'c: empdivConsoleApplication1.exe'
I want to call the procedure from a trigger, but the program that fires the trigger and the exe gives an error message (but works).
Is this some access issue ?
Please help.

Can the DTS execute SQL task recognize a table in an Access database that is linked from another Access database?
I'm attempting to use a DTS Execute SQL task connected to Access1.mdb to make a new table in Access1.mdb that is using a Subquery from a linked table in Access2.mdb . (I know it sounds convoluded..) Its giving me an error in my FROM clause as if it can't recognize the linked table from Access2.mdb.
The reason why I'm doing this is that I'm not sure how to run an Access make table query from DTS that will overwrite the existing table in Access. I get an error that the table already exists.
Any Help?

Hello,Access XP, SQL Server 2000Is it possible to hide a SP under Queries in Access, yet still be ableto Execute it from Access? We hooked up a custom form to accept the input parameters (MS FeatureRequest!) for the Stored Procedure. We had two problems with MS's'Input Parameter' dialog: 1) We could not customize, 2) We continuallyreceived a message from Access stating, "The stored procedure executedsuccessfully but did not return records" ('SET NOCOUNT ON' gave nojoy).Below is the sample code we are using.TestInsert is the SPtxtName is a text box on the form@name is char(80)Private Sub cmdAdd_Enter()Dim cmd As New ADODB.CommandDim par As ParameterSet cmd.ActiveConnection = CurrentProject.Connectioncmd.CommandText = "TestInsert"cmd.CommandType = adCmdStoredProcSet par = cmd.CreateParameter("@name", adVarChar, _adParamInput, Len(txtName), txtName)cmd.Parameters.Append parcmd.ExecuteSet cmd = NothingEnd SubAny help would be appreciated. We successfully hid our Tables, andallowed access through Views. But we can't seem to find a good workaround here.ThanksJeffJeffrey Waltonnoloader

Hi,
I sometimes come accross this error when I attempt to execute an isolated task in the control flow. What is funny is that I am still able to debug the package.
It eventually resolves after a while. What could it be?
Thanks

We have been asked to look into using stored procedures with SQL Server 7.0 as a way to speed up a clients site. 99% of all the articles I have read along with all the books all say Stored Procedure should be used whenever possible as opposed to putting the SQL in your ASP script. However one of my colleagues has been speaking to Microsoft and they said that that they were surprised that our client wanted to use Stored Procedures as this was the old method of database access and that now he should really consider using COM objects for data access as itis much faster. Has anyone got any views on this or know of any good aticles regarding this matter ?

Hello,
We have some jobs that are running on the principle database. I am planning to create those jobs in the mirror database also, so that when it gets failover it will automatically run those jobs. Here is my question, Is there any way we could create the jobs on mirror database also and say not to run (exit) if the database is in mirror role by writing some scripts or by selecting any options? Please let me know. Thanks!

Error is still persisting
Cannot debug stored procedures because the SQL Server database is not setup correctly or user does not have permission to execute master.sp_sdidebug.
