Execute Package Task In A Loop Works, But...

Okay, can someone explain why when I execute children packages within a loop that only a couple of them work?
When I first started this I had Child Package 1 and Child Packge 2 working from the Parent Package 1. It would loop through twice (I had 2 organizations in my outer loop) and pass in the Parent Package variables correctly.
I am using a simple "Foreach Item Enumerator" with a collection of string enumerators that are the Names of the children packages - these are assigned to a variable that is scoped to the outer loop.
Now, when I add a new Child Package 3 and set it up the same as the other 2, when it goes to execute Child Package 3 it fails with the error:
"Error: The connection manager "[My Package Name].dtsx" is not found. A component failed to find the connection manager in the Connections collection. "
What in the world have I done? I was under the assumption that since the first 2 packages worked, that any other packages I added would work the same.

OK. I give up and need help. Hopefully it's something minor ...
I have a dataflow which returns email addresses to a recordset.
I pass this recordset into a ForEachLoop configuring the enumerator as (Foreach ADO Enumerator). I also map the email address as a variable with index 0.
I then have a Execute SQL task which receives this email address as a varchar variable (parameter 0) which I then use in my SQL command to limit the rows returned. I have commented out the where clause and returned all rows regardless of email address to try to troubleshoot this problem. In either event, I then use a resultset to store the query result of type object and result name 0.
I then pass this resultset into a script variable to start parsing the sql rows returned as type object. ( I assume this is the correct way to do this from other prior posts ...).
The script appears to throw an exception at the following line. I assume it's because I'm either not passing in the values properly or the query doesn't return anything. However, I am certain the query works as it executes just fine at the command prompt.

My intent is to email the query results to each email address with the following type of data by passing the parsed data from the script to a send mail task. Email works fine and sends out messages but the content is empty. I pass the parsed data as string values to the messagesource and define the messagesourcetype as a variable in the mail task.

I have a SQL DTS package that imports a text file as one wide column into a two column SQL table, one is an identity seed. So essentially I import then parse the data using the index key as it is 3 seperate lines of data. All works fine by running the DTS package using execute. When I schedule this as a job it fails. It indicates that I have additional white space after a column. Any thoughts on why this can ocurr?

I got this problem and before post I've read many post similar in the forum (sorry for my english I try to do my best....i'm italian)
This is my scenario.
1) SQL

This is an SQL task and from this I create a Object variable "ObjDs" on scope package1
2) I introduce a loop (Foreach ADO Enumerator) on my object variable "ObjDs".
Here I mapping two variables "IDsources" and "str" (as you caqn see from my first sql)
Now I set a breakpoint into the beginning of my cicle and really see the dinamic change of the values from "watch" windows.
Now start my problem.
Into this loop I must do "X" operation....but first of all I must Update a table...so I simple SQL TASK...on the dinamic ID of my variable.
Ok, I put a SQL tast into the loop, set SQLsourceType = Variabile, resulset = none, and create an expression like this (SQLstatementsource):
"UPDATE New_pangea.dbo.Sources SET InAggiornamento = "+ (DT_WSTR, 4) @[Utente::IDsources]
If I don't cast (DT_WSTR, 4) I got always an error...
The data types "DT_WSTR" and "DT_I4" are incompatible for binary operator "+". The operand types could not be implicitly cast into compatible types for the operation. To perform this operation, one or both operands need to be explicitly cast with a cast operator.
Attempt to set the result type of binary operation ""UPDATE New_pangea.dbo.Sources SET InAggiornamento = " + @[Utente::IDsources]" failed with error code 0xC0047080.
so I put and validate myexpression.
before my global variable @[Utente::IDsources] change the value to true of EvalutateAsExpression.
Something goes always wrong...When I try debug...this is the error

This occurs when an attempt is made to retrieve a variable from the Variables collection on a container during execution of the package, and the variable is not there. Errore in Execute SQL Task: There were errors during task validation.

hi guys,
i'm trying to do a bulk insert through a t-sql which accepts 3 params.
i frist run a SQL statement to get a list of DB's to update through a SQL task, then i save the output to a variable object. which is been used by the For each loop.
i've done the mapping with the object fine. but i want to call a SQL task within for each loop, and parse the above results as parameters. i tried parsing it as
exec mysp3 @[User::fundid], @[User::dbCode], @[User::subfund]
where fundiid, dbcode and subfund are user defined variables that gets updated by the ado recordset.
this fails with the error msg:

Hi, I'm trying to loop thru a table and insert records into another table in ssis. So far I have been able to get the data using a execute sql task set up to store the full result set into a variable called data. I then drug a foreach loop container out and selected the foreach ADO enumerator and used my variable data as the ADO object source variable. I then set up a new variable under variable mappings with index 0 to get the collection values. How do I take that variable and update another table using another sql task inside the foreach loop container? Is this possible?

I'm looking for a way to refer to a package variable within any
Transact-SQL code included in either an Execute SQL or Execute T-SQL
task. If this can be done, I need to know the technique to use -
whether it's something similar to a parameter placeholder question
mark or something else.
FYI - I've been able to successfully execute Transact-SQL statements
within the Execute SQL task, so I don't think the Execute T-SQL task
is even necessary for this purpose.

I have ForEach Loop using Foreach File Enumerator. Within this loop I have SQL Task containing an Insert statement. When I run the Insert statement in query builder the transaction inserts data into a table as expected.
However, when actually running the process I am getting the error message:
Executing the query "INSERT INTO dbo.TEST_TABLE
..." failed with the following error: "Value does not fall within the expected range.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
I currently have the ResultSet to "None" and have defined the parameter I am using. Where the process seems to joke is on my file_Name variable will I am trying to insert only part of the file name.
My insert statement looks as follows:
INSERT INTO dbo.TEST_TABLE
(IID, AN8, File_Type, IB_OB, File_Name, Processed_Flag, ReceiptDateTime)

I was trying to insert some row from one table to another of different database.
I was using Execute SQL task along with Foreach loop container.
In my execute SQL task I am using this query
SET IDENTITY_INSERT dbo.Table1 ON
INSERT INTO dbo.Table1
SELECT * FROM DB2.dbo.Table2
WHERE TableKey = ?
When executed I get this error:

While the same query when executed in Management Studio Its successful.
The properties I set

Hi all,
I'm trying to capture the file name and insert to the Database with Loop Container and Execute Sql task...However when I run, I get error with the input parameter.
In my Sql Task, the parameter mapping:
Variable name: user::variable,
direction: input,
Data Type: Varchar,
parameter name: @xVariable,
parameter size: -1
connectiontype: OleDB
sourcetype: direct input
statement : insert into xtable(xcolumn) values(@xVariable)
Anyone have any other suggestion how to capture the filename and input in the database?

Hi,
I am trying to use SSIS.Execute Process Task within Foreach loop . The task should unzip a a variable gzip file provided to it from the previous task
to execute the command from cmd C:Program FilesGnuWin32ingzip.exe -d -k c:folderfilename
My input in the Execute Process Task as follow:
The command line: C:Program FilesGnuWin32ingzip.exe
Argument: -d -k c:folder
Variable: User::var_filename
keep getting error
The process exit code was "1" while the expected was "0".

This should be a very easy question.
I'm trying to develop an SSIS package that will eventually do many things, but I can't get it to do very basic things.
My current test package has 2 tasks in it:
1) File System Task ( FST )
2) Execute SQL Task ( EST )
When running just the SSIS package via the VS2005 IDE ( as startup project ), everything works fine. The FST moves a file from DIR_A to DIR_B and the EST inserts a test record into the test table.
If I set my C# app to the the startup project and execute the package from within the C#, it kinda works. The FST works fine, but the EST does not work and the package returns a "FAILURE" code to the C#.
The EST is incredibly basic. This is the SQL text:
insert into tmpssis ( tmpdata ) values ( 66 );
I'm using ADO.NET, Direct input, FALSE for IsQueryStoredProcedure, and it's using the only connection I've set up to the database.
The FST block runs - the file gets moved, but then it fails on the SQL block for some reason.
I'm open to any suggestions.

Hi. I am running a package using 'execute package' inside a for each loop file iteration. I have to iterate through some 10,000s of files to ETL source data, a resonably complex package. I want to set going and get some sleep but every 200 files or so I get a memory exhausted error and the task fails. Is there a short easy fix to refresh memory each iteration. If so please let me know. Just ignoring the failure at task level won't refresh the memory, will it?

I am a R data miner who is new to SQL and SSIS and would appreciate any help.
I wanted to automate the process of creating and processing decision tree models for every county in the Country. I wanted to use the foreach loop for iterate through all the counties. I wanted the foreach enumerator to be used by the XMLA code that creates the model so it would append it to the name of the model and i would get a different model for every county. I am not sure how to have the XMLA code accept foreach loop enumerator.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you could direct me to a previously done example that would greatly benefit me.

I am trying to execute a UDF in an Execute SQL Task within a Foreach loop.
I have an Execute SQL task to get the dataset (Firstname, Lastname, CompanyID) which is going into a full result set called @PendingPar. The Foreach Loop is set to a Foreach ADO Enumerator against @PendingPar and I have created 3 variables at the Foreach Loop scope level called @Firstname (String), @Lastname (String) and @CompanyID (Int32). These are mapped in the Foreach Loop as index 0,1 and 2.
Within the Foreach Loop I have an Execute SQL Task with the sql command
select dbo.udf_GetParTitle (?,?,?)
In the parameter mapping I have Variable Name = User::Firstname Direction = Input Data Type = VARCHAR and Parameter Name = 0, User::Lastname, Input, VARCHAR, 1 and User::CompanyID, Input, VARCHAR,2
Finally the UDF returns a @NewPar value so i have the result set in the execute sql task to Single Row which goes into variable @NewPar. This @newPar will be used later but I cannot get the first bit to work yet.
the error message i get back is

Here's the set up:
ForEach Loop Container:
Collection: Foreach File Enumerator
Variable Mappings: Variable = User::DailyFile, Index = 0
Execute SQL Taks:
Connection: OLEDB
ResultSet: None
SQLStatement: EXEC spGetFile ?
ParameterMapping: VariableName = USER::DailyFile, Direction = Input, DataType=VARCHAR, Parameter = 0
This works great it iterates through a file and looks at all the files checks to see if they have been loaded into the db table, if not it loads the file.
My spGetFile has RETURN 1 if a file is loaded and RETURN 0 if the file is not loaded.
Now I add a new variable:
Step 1: add to Foreach Loop Container
ForEach Loop Container Name = Return, Scope = ForEachLoop, Data Type= Int32 Value=0
Step 2: Add to Execute SQL Task:
VariableName = User:Return, Direction = ReturnValue, DataType = Long, ParameterName =1
This produces the following error:
~~"Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.~~
I tried with an ADO.Net connection ... works until I add the ReturnValue parameter ...

Hi everyone,
For first time I'm testing this task and surprisingly, when I try "Edit Package" option:
1)The DTS host failed to load or save the package properly
2)The selected package cannot be opened
3)Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component
But after these messages you can see all the tasks but they haven't name!!
It seem as if RCW mechanism has failed between managed and unmanaged coded-partially.
I don't dare to follow doing more stuff, I don't know if that package is well-loaded or not from there. ?¿
Any guidance or idea about this?

I want to pass the Sourcefile Name that is fetched by the For Each Loop to assign it Global Variable in DTS. how this can be made ?

I am having problems executing a child package from a parent package using the Execute Package Task. I am attempting to run the master package through a SQL Server Agent job.
The SQL Server Agent job is owned by sa. The step that runs the parent package is configured to load the package from the SSIS Package Store on the same server that the job is running.
I have the Execute Package Task configured as follows:
Location: SQL Server
ExecuteOutOfProcess: True
Connecting as a SQL Server login (let's say TestEtl)
I have added the db_dtsoperator database role to both the TestEtl login and the login that SQL Server Agent connects through. I have also configured the child package's reader role to include db_dtsoperator. Per http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms141053.aspx, this should allow these logins to run the child package.
I have enabled logging of all events in both the parent and child packages. I see the following in the logs when the Execute Package Task executes (omitted portions unrelated to the execution of the child package task):

In Dts you can loop a package by creating an Active-X script with something like this ...
"oPackage.Steps("DTSStep_1").ExecutionStatus = DTSStepExecStat_Waiting"
"oPackage.Steps("DTSStep_2").ExecutionStatus = DTSStepScriptResult_DontExecuteTask"
What is the way to do in SSIS? Depending on a condition i want to rerun my package but have not found a smooth way to do it. I guess you can do it in a better way than using the ActiveX Script Task

Getting Access Denied To FileName Error When Using the Execute Sql Task (With File Connection) into a Foreach Loop Container.
Please Note :
I have a folder containing .sql files. I have to dynamically loop through the files and send them as a File connection Folder to the Execute Sql Task.
When I run this Package I am getting the follwoing error :
[Execute SQL Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Access to the path 'C:ProjectsFuzzy Lookup DataFlow ExampleScripts' is denied.".
Also I have logged in to the machine as Administrator and to Sql Server with sa.
Please help.

I am using many Execute Package Tasks in a DTS packages to call a number of other DTS packages. The problem is that when I change one of the called DTS packages the execute package task does not run the updated packages. It looks like the execute package task references a Package ID guid instead of the name. Is there a way to make it so a change to a called DTS package will reflect in all references to it

I am missing something simple that's killing me.
I am trying to execute a child ssis package using the execute package task. I add execute package task to the parent package and in the package task editor, under the package options I choose: filesystem for location, I choose new connection and create a connection to the package on the filesystem I want to execute, packagenamereadonly is blank. I execute the parent package and get an error that I did not specify the name of the package in the execute package task object. Now, since I can't populate the package name, as that option is readonly, I am not sure how to remove my headache. Anyone see what I'm doing wrong? None of these packages have security.

Hi All,
I have a master package that has 3 child packages,so iam taking the child packages from the D drive of my QA machine.
I have used environmental variables to define the path in packages configurations,so that same environmental variables can be used to point to production server path.
The package is able to run on production server but it still fetching data from QA server.
Is the any other way to do it better.
How to use the subpackages in production server.
Please help.

I have five DTS packages on a server.
Instead of executing these DTS packages individually, I have decided to create a 'parent' DTS package that will fire off each of the five 'child' DTS packages using 'On Success' precedences.
This seemed like a pretty straight forward task, but when one of the child DTS packages fails, the 'parent' DTS package continues to execute the next 'child' DTS package through the 'On Success' precedence. I was expecting the 'parent' DTS to fire off an 'on failure' precendence and stop executing
Can anyone tell me why the 'parent' DTS package continues with the 'on success' precedence after one of the 'child' DTS packages has failed.

I have a package A which has execute package task which tryes to execute package B.
I am able to execute package B directly but when i execut epackage A.Its able to open package B but its failing at the very first task in B.The error iam getting is like this
Error: The task "Setup Connections" cannot run on this edition of Integration Services. It requires a higher level edition.
Has any one come accross this before...Help

Hi,
I have a Load package which calls 3 other subpackages within it through the execute package task.
When i run the package thru batchfile it runs fine.
But when we run thru Autosys job scheduler i get the following error for the subpackages.
Code: 0xC00220DE
Source: Execute Package Task1
Description: Error 0x80070003 while loading package file "". The system cannot find the path specified.
i have given the path in the config file,which has the server name and the path of the subpackages.
Has anyone come across this situation before.

I'm trying to run a package from another package using Execute package task -
I'm getting the error:
Error: Error 0xC0012050 while preparing to load the package. Package failed validation from the ExecutePackage task. The package cannot run. .
I have Delay validation on the child package. Any other suggestions?

I€™m using a For Loop container to with an Execute Package Task inside, looping until a folder is empty. I€™ve noticed some strange behaviors:
1. The child package keeps creating new connections. I start with 3 connections to the DB and when the For Loop container is done I€™ve got 364 connections.
2. The Execute Package Task is pulling the wrong version of the package I€™ve specified. I€™m using a package saved to the File System and there€™s only one copy on the drive. I€™ve verified the path is going to the correct location.
Does anyone have a work-around for the €˜connection generation€™ issue?

I have added a package from SQL Server to another package as an "Execute Package Task" it fails with this error:
Error: Error 0xC0014062 while preparing to load the package. The LoadFromSQLServer method has encountered OLE DB error code 0x80040E14 (Only the owner of DTS Package 'nVision_AgentPump' or a member of the sysadmin role may create new versions of it.). The SQL statement that was issued has failed. .
I tried setting the Protection Level to "don't save sensitive", and running the package in process and out. Any idea where to look?

I have a package (i.e. child package) which runs itself perfectly fine without displaying any error.
However when I embeded this package inside another package (i.e. parent package) using Execute Package Task. The task always fails. It seems strange enough.
The child package has two variables that need to be passed in from parent package.
Can any expert here please help out? Thanks.
