Execute Package Utility Has Encountered A Problem And Needs To Close
Jul 11, 2007
I'm a SQL Server 2000 user trying to get my head around v2005, in particular the changes from DTS to Integration Services.
I've build a few packages in BIDS and they work fine there, but saving them to either the file system or MSDB locations and running them in Management Studio results in:
Execute Package Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If I click on the debug button, I get this:
An unhandled exception ('System.IO.FileNotFoundException') occurred in DTExecUI.exe [404].
I've searched the Internet and found a few people who has also experienced this, but not received any answers.
Is there a kind guru out there with some idea of what is going on? Preferably something that doesn't involve re-installing, because the database has already been configured for our Blackberry users and I can't re-do it now.
My SSIS package carries out one data flow task after another e.g.
truncate tables
Copy table 1
cleanup tables
When using the execute package utility in SSMS to run the package , the data flow tasks are listed alphabetically, so it reads:
cleanup tables
Copy table 1
truncate tables
Can I change this so the data flow tasks are listed in the logical order I have specified them in the package as it makes it difficult to work out which step the package is at. And while I'm at it, it keeps telling me every separate task's elapsed time is zero when it's finished. It records the start and end time ok, but it can't seem to work out the elapsed time?!
I created a package within BIDS which tests successful. However when saved into MSDB and I execute the package, the package completes without any issues however doesn't work.
All the package is doing is a simple backup and copy operation but fails without any errors within the Execute Package Utility.
Hi,since yesterday I have this message everytime I try to open Sql Server"Enterprise manager"; I reinstalled the outfit completely without successany solutionthanksFernand
I am unable to debug the first Script Task (not Script Component) since adding a second Script Task in one of my packages. The script completes successfully and goes green but the above error is displayed followed by another which is not mentioned here as I'm sure it's because of the first error. The second script task debugs fine so I know this is not the problem. But if I delete the second Script Task the first task starts debugging.
I have moved the breakpoint around in the first script and the only line that seems to work is the first line within the main method. It's irrelevant what this first line of code does. I know there is nothing wrong with the script tasks themselves as I have an exact copy in another package that debugs just fine.
Hi I have one problem in SSIS for passing Variable Values while executing Package. I'm giving in details as below:
I opened Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Made Connection to Integration Services To Execute Package I Right Clicked and Click on Run Package Then I Clicked on Execute and package was executed successfully.
Problem is that if I try to Set Values then Package through Error DTExec: Could not set ProcessMode value to M.
Basically I could not understand in which format I should pass the Variables. What I tried is listed below:
ProcessMode;M Package.Variables[User:rocessMode].Value;M Package.Variables[ProcessMode].Value;M But every time I got errors.
And then I tried from Command Line DTEXEC /DTS "MSDBLoad_Order" /SERVER SERVERNAME /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING V /SET Package.Variables[ProcessMode].Value;M
First time Process run successfully. And it has changed the ProcessMode to M also. But after that it was also not changing the ProcessMode Value to M.
Please help in regarding. I tried a lot from Site examples also, but could not get proper solution.
We are using sql server 2005 Enterprise Edition with service pack1
I got the following error messages in the SQL log
The operating system returned error 21(The device is not ready.) to SQL Server during a read at offset 0x00000000090000 in file '....mdf'. Additional messages in the SQL Server error log and system event log may provide more detail. This is a severe system-level error condition that threatens database integrity and must be corrected immediately. Complete a full database consistency check (DBCC CHECKDB). This error can be caused by many factors; for more information, see SQL Server Books Online. fcb::close-flush: Operating system error 21(The device is not ready.) encountered.
I got these errors for about 2 hrs and after that I see these messages in the sql log
Starting up database ' ' 1 transactions rolled forward in database '' (). This is an informational message only. No user action is required. 0 transactions rolled back in database ' ' (). This is an informational message only. No user action is required. Recovery is writing a checkpoint in database ' ' ( ). This is an informational message only. No user action is required. Can anyone please help me in troubleshooting this issue. Why this migh have happened.
Hi all, my PKG have a variable "strI"D and have a value like 'ABC'. When execute the PKG from utility I can set dinamicaly the new value for that variable...but this action overwrite that one in the pkg or the value set in the PKG always is last choose.
I got a trouble if the variable value must be empy for dinamic set from execution utility...or if it isn't dinamic set is failure. Thanks, Alen
We ran a cmd file which includes dtsrun ... The last line of the DOS window came up with "DTSrun: Package execution complete", but the cmd window could not close automatically.
I need the file created by my BCP QUERYOUT command I'm executing from XP_CmdShell in Transact-SQL to have a specific OWNER. I've tried using the sp_xp_cmdshell_proxy_account to setup the correct owner. The owner is always SERVERNAMEAdministrators.
In reference to the question raised in this thread http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1460591&SiteID=1
Since I'm not able to create a deployment utility, when a config file is shared among multiple packages and also I cannot get the permission from Sys Admins to use Env. Variables I'm struck.
Now I'm thinking of importing the package to Sql Server from the file system. Is there any caveats in this approach? especially regarding the config files?
[edit] Also, do I need any special permissions to view the Integeration Services node in Management Studio? We are using Integerated Authentication, neither do I'm able to run sp_start_job sp in the msdb database. [/edit]
I'm looking for a way to refer to a package variable within any Transact-SQL code included in either an Execute SQL or Execute T-SQL task. If this can be done, I need to know the technique to use - whether it's something similar to a parameter placeholder question mark or something else.
FYI - I've been able to successfully execute Transact-SQL statements within the Execute SQL task, so I don't think the Execute T-SQL task is even necessary for this purpose.
I have a master package, which executes child packages that are located on a SQL Server. The Child packages execute other child packages which are also located on the SQL server.
Everything works fine when I execute in process. But when I set the parameter in the mater package ExecutePackageTask to ExecuteOutOfProcess = True, I get the following error
Error: 0xC00470FE at DFT Load Data, DTS.Pipeline: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PRODUCTLEVELTOLOW. The product level is insufficient for component "Row Count" (5349).

The child packages all run fine when executed directly, and the master package runs fine if Execute Out of Process is False.
I developed my package in BI studio and tested runnning it through BI. Now when i have to deploy the package to main server it will be executed via batch job. This package requires an input file name too. Now when i am trying to run the package on my loacal box using following command on command prormpt i get error given below.

PLease let me know solution to creating batch job for executing this pkg with input param.
We are trying to create a deployment utility for a solution. The issue we are facing is, we are using a single package configuration file and when we try to build the solution to create the deployment utility, the build process fails saying that the package configuration file already exists. THe reason for this is while trying to build, the utility copies the configation fiel for the packages, it copies for one, but for the second onward, when it tries to copies, it fails saying the file already exists.
Any idea how to overcome this, or else any suggestions how to perform the similar steps to create a deployment utility for a solution in which the packages share a single package configuration file.
After moving my deployment folder to the Target Server, I run the Installation Wizard. As I move next, I am missing the window which is supposed to allow me to set package config values as stated in MSDN:
"If the package includes configurations, you can edit updatable configurations by updating values in the Value list on the Configure Packages page."
Does anyone know why I am not seeing it? In my deployment bundle which I have moved over has currently 3 files:
1) SSIS Deployment Manifest
2) SSIS Package
3) SSIS Config File
Again, I double click on SSIS Deployment Manifest, and it starts fine. I go thru the steps for File System Deployment, and then it prompts for installation folder path. After that, it takes me directly to validation. Why is it not showing me the Configure Packages Page as described in the MSDN Documentation. Please advise. Thanks.
I have a for each loop that populates from a set of flat files into a Sql Server table, I run the Flat file Import via a dts package embedded into Execute DTS 2000 Task. I want to pass the Sourcefile Name that is fetched by the For Each Loop to assign it Global Variable in DTS. how this can be made ?
I have a SSIS job, one of the last steps it performs is to execute a SQL 2000 DTS package. This has to be done as a SQL 2000 DTS package as it is performing rebuilds of SQL 2000 Analysis Services dimensions and cubes. We've found that when the DTS fails the SSIS job is happily completing showing as a success, we would prefer to know it went wrong.
As far as I'm aware SSIS merely starts the DTS off and doesn't care about it's result. I've taken a look in to turning on the logging for the execute DTS package and thought that the ExecuteDTS80PackageTaskTaskResult would give me the answer I need...but is merely written to the log not available as an event-handler. It also looks like it is not safe to put a SQL task in as the next item to go look at the SQL 2000 system tables to look at the log for the DTS package as the SSIS documentation warns that the DTS package can continue to run after the execute DTS package task has ended.
Ideally I want any error raised within the DTS package to cascade up to be an error in the SSIS job, I can then handle it appropriately. I cannot find a way to do this. Is there a way?
If not, can anyone suggest how in the remainder of the SSIS tasks I can be sure that the DTS has completed before I start any other tasks that will check for the SQL 2000 log of its execution?
I am having problems executing a child package from a parent package using the Execute Package Task. I am attempting to run the master package through a SQL Server Agent job.
The SQL Server Agent job is owned by sa. The step that runs the parent package is configured to load the package from the SSIS Package Store on the same server that the job is running.
I have the Execute Package Task configured as follows:
Location: SQL Server ExecuteOutOfProcess: True Connecting as a SQL Server login (let's say TestEtl)
I have added the db_dtsoperator database role to both the TestEtl login and the login that SQL Server Agent connects through. I have also configured the child package's reader role to include db_dtsoperator. Per http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms141053.aspx, this should allow these logins to run the child package.
I have enabled logging of all events in both the parent and child packages. I see the following in the logs when the Execute Package Task executes (omitted portions unrelated to the execution of the child package task):

I am sure that what I am doing is quite common, and I obviously have something misconfigured somewhere - but I'm not sure what my misconfiguration is. Can anyone enlighten me?
I now have two SSIS package, "TESTING" and "LOADING". The "TESTING" package have an execute package task that call the "LOADING" package. When I want to execute the TESTING package, how can I setup the connection string so that I can edit the password of the database connected by the "LOADING" package?
I am using execute pacakge task to execute another package . I am giving the Connection string for the package to execute. It works fine in my development machine but when i try to run in another server after i deployed it. It looks for the datasource path of the DTSX file in the same location.
how do i set the path according to each server where the dtsx file is stored. or any other method of storing it like connection string.
if i store it in theparent package variable where should i point to...
Hi, In my application, i have two package, parent package and child package. the parent package is executing child package using a Execute Package Task. "Execute Out Of Process" property of Execute Package Task is set to TRUE. means the child package will be run in separate process not in the process of Parent package. this was working fine, but at a particular client location. its failing the error is "not able to load child package". for me it seems some setting on server restricting to create separate process for child package execution. when "Execute Out Of Process" property of Execute Package Task is set to FALSE. its working fine.
can anyone help what could cause its failure with property set to TRUE.
I am calling one SSIS package from another using the Execute Package Task. I also need to pass a parameter to the called SSIS package. Can I do this? If yes, how? If no, then what will be the work-around for this?
I have successfully created a SSIS package which execute a DTS 2000 package and with no problem to execute the task. But I failed to schedule this package. I was not success in setting the logging. When running the package in command line:

There is an execute package task that calls the child package. Both parent and child packages have the same password and the passwork is entered into the execute package task. Both packages reside in the same directory path.

DelayValidation = True for the Execute Package Task tasks is set and DelayValidation for the connection manager is set to True.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what might be causing this error?
I am trying to execute a DTS package in my asp.net code, but the dts package has both a owner and user password. I want to be able to use the user password to execute the package within the code, but whenever I try that I get the following error: Access to package properties requires entry of package owner password.
