I'm using SQL 7.0 SP2 on NT SP6a and have a quick question. I want to create a scheduled job to execute several DTS packages (all located on the same server). I can use Enterprise Manager to schedule an individual package but the command line of the step has something like:
Hi all I've Created a Trigger statement and tried to execute this using ExecuteNonQuery.but it shows the following error
Incorrect syntax near 'GO'. 'CREATE TRIGGER' must be the first statement in a query batch.
if i start with Create Trigger statement it show "Incorrect Syntax near Create Trigger".
the following is the trigger statement which i've generated in C# Can anyone help me?
thanks in advance sri

I am having trouble getting a job step to execute an executable file. One of the options for a job step is to enter an operating system command. I have tried entering the following operating system command to execute a file:
'start c:myfile.exe'
For some reason this doesn't work. How can I get SQL Server to execute an executable file?
I am situation, where we have a table named as Project, columns for the table as follows:
Code: ------------------------------------------ ID | ClientCode | ProjectName ------------------------------------------ 1 | AAA | Dubai Airport Phase I 2 | AAA | Dubai Airport Phase II 3 | ARC | Salala 4 | MIZ | UMBC Building ------------------------------------------
Now my task was, whenever a project name and other details being created, then a Folder will be created in a server itself in the path E:ProjectFolder in following way:
You can see here Folder and sub-folder is being created with that following project - client code & ID
I used following trigger to do the same:
Code: CREATE TRIGGER [dbo].[CreateFolderName] ON [dbo].[Project] after INSERT AS SET NOCOUNT ON BEGIN declare @chkdirectory as nvarchar(4000), @folderName varchar(100), @mainfolderName varchar(100) declare @folder_exists as int SET @mainfolderName = (SELECT ClientCode AS Project FROM INSERTED) SET @folderName = (SELECT (ClientCode + cast(ID as varchar(10))) AS Project FROM INSERTED) set @chkdirectory = 'E:ProjectFolder' + @mainfolderName + '' + @folderName
[code].....
This worked like a charm, now my next task is using same trigger, I have to create a BAT file inside that SubFolder - T-SQL for creation of BAT File as follows:
Code: DECLARE @FileName varchar(50), @bcpCommand varchar(2000) SET @FileName = REPLACE('E:ProjectFolder[red](select ClientCode from INSERTED)[/red][red](select ClientCode + cast(ID as varchar(10)) from INSERTED)[/red]xcopy_'+ (SELECT cast(ID as varchar(10)) FROM INSERTED) +'.bat','/','-') SET @bcpCommand = 'bcp "[red]SELECT 'xcopy "E:ProjectFolder' + clientCode + '" "10.0.0.35ProjectFolder" /T /E /I' FROM INSERTED[/red]" queryout "' SET @bcpCommand = @bcpCommand + @FileName + '" -U SQLServerUsername -P SQLServerPassword -c' EXEC master..xp_cmdshell @bcpCommand
Here I am not understanding how to insert the above T-SQL in the Trigger as well as the above T-SQL is not right, what's wrong in this?
Last query that will be included in the trigger is to execute the newly created bat file.
I am creating a login with a user in one database. The id has to create procedures in the dbo schema, execute them, and grant execute on them to other users. BOL says to GRANT ALTER ON SCHEMA::DBO TO username ; GRANT CREATE PROCEDURE TO username ; I did that. User can now create procedures, but cannot execute what he creates. And cannot grant execute on the sp to anybody.
I don't want to give this id a lot of priviledges.
I am loading data from one DB to another. I wish to load them every day at night. I know to do that, I must write a script. But how to do it? I don't know. Could someone help me?
Being still a relative newcomer to SQL Server (people may say I'm trying to take on too much being somewhat inexperienced once they read about the problem I'm trying to tackle, but alas...) I'm running into the following problem: I need to create tables in my user database on the fly (using Stored Procedures) so that each table can be created many times in the database but only once for every user. The tables should be named something like "username.Table1", "username.Table2" etc. as opposed to "dbo.Table1". I then want to use the stored procedure from .NET/C# in my web application, so that i can create the complete set of usertables for each of my clients.
Now, I tackled the stored procedure part (that is, it creates all the tables I need with all the parameters I want) and am able to use it from my web application (which took some time to learn but proved quite easy to do), but I cannot seem to get it coupled to the current user (instead of the dbo). Every time I trie, the tables are created as dbo.Table1 and when I try to create a new set, it gives a warning ("table with name such and so already exists..."). I made sure to log in as an authenticated user (using forms authentication) before trying to create the tables but this gives the aforementioned result.
What am I doing wrong? I use Visual Web Developer Express, SQL Server 2005 Express and IIS version 5.1
In our development and test environments the developers need to create and execute stored procedures as dbo without having any other dbo permissions. If I place them in db_owner, they have too many permissions. Is there a way to address this situation?
I'm also curious how other companies address the subject of creating stored procedures in development and test environments. If I give developers create and execute permission in a database, all objects would be created as JohnDoe.storedprocedurename instead of dbo.storedprocedurename. Any help in this area is appreciated.
I surfed a lot of the internet piecing this together. I have a database that gets copied every night from a live database so users can run queries against it, so I needed to be able to recreate a stored procedure from within ASP.NET. Also, I needed to take information I was importing from a .CSV file and compare it using the stored procedure to find specific information and import it into another database. I was able to do this using the SQLDMO reference object. Here are some clipits of what you need. Imports SQLDMOPrivate myServer As New SQLServer Dim serverName As String = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("Server").ToString()Dim userName As String = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("UserName").ToString() Dim password As String = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("Password").ToString() Dim storedProcedure As New StoredProcedure Dim qresults As SQLDMO.QueryResults Example Stored Procedure Try myServer.Connect(serverName, userName, password) storedProcedure.Text = "IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sysobjects WHERE name='memb_proc' AND user_name(uid)='dbo') DROP PROCEDURE dbo.memb_proc"myServer.Databases.Item("<databasename>", "dbo").StoredProcedures.Add(storedProcedure) storedProcedure.Text = "CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.memb_proc @lastname varchar(50) = '', @firstname varchar(50) = '', @zip varchar(5) = '', @membrowno varchar(50) OUTPUT AS Select @membrowno = rowno from memb where lastname LIKE @lastname and name LIKE @firstname and zip1 LIKE @zip "myServer.Databases.Item("<databasename>", "dbo").StoredProcedures.Add(storedProcedure) Label1.Text = "Creation of stored procedure successful"Catch ex As Exception Label1.Text = "Creation of stored procedure failed" Finally myServer.DisConnect()End Try Run Stored Procedure and Obtain Results myServer.Connect(serverName, userName, password) qresults = myServer.ExecuteWithResults("USE [databasename] DECLARE @return_value int,@membrowno varchar(50) EXEC @return_value = [dbo].[memb_proc] @lastname = N'" & Last & "', @firstname = N'" & First & "',@zip = N'" & ZIP & "', @membrowno = @membrowno OUTPUT SELECT @membrowno as N'@membrowno'")For num = 1 To qresults.Rows MemberRowNo = qresults.GetColumnString(num, 1) Next myServer.DisConnect()

I have a requirement to allow a user to restore a database and then create database users and add them to the db_owner database role. The user must not have sysadmin rights on the server.
The database restore works ok by placing the user in the dbcreator role.
There is a stored procedure to create the database user and alter role membership, I want the user to execute the sp as a different, higher privilege account so as not to give the user underlying permission to create users in the database.
USE [master] GO
/****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[sp_create_db_users] Script Date: 22/07/2014 13:54:46 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO
[Code] ....
The user has execute permission on the stored procedure but keeps getting the error:
Msg 916, Level 14, State 1, Line 2
The server principal "Mydomainadmin1" is not able to access the database "Mydatabase" under the current security context.
Mydomainadmin1 has dbowner to Mydatabase and sysadmin rights for server. If the 'execute as' is changed to 'caller' and run by mydomainadmin1 it works so the issue is between the execute sp and the actual running of the procedure.
I have a table that I am basically reduplicating a couple of times for each part of this database that I want to create. Each table basically has the same data: The tables will be called motherTable, fatherTable, sonTable, daughterTable and so on.I am pretty much using the following in each column: UserID, MotherID(or FatherID or SonID, etc., etc. and so on for each unique table), FirstName, LastName, MiddleName, BirthPlace, Photo, Age.I don't see an option to copy a table and just modify the second ID part and rename that table accordingly. How can I make this an easier way of creating these similar tables without retyping all these columns over and over again? Thanks in advance.
Hello, i need to create temporary table inside SP. i having one string variable @strQuery which contain dynamic query inside SP. i am executing that trhough execute sp_executesql @strQuery once query build.
now instead of select query , i want to creat hash table. so i wrote :
set @strQuery = "Select * into #tmp_tbl from table_name..." when i tried to execute it through
execute sp_executesql @strQuery , its giving error 'Invalid object name '#tmp_tbl' If i removed Hash then it works fine. even for double Hash also its work fine. but i want hash table only as i want that table local to that user.
Even direct execution of select statement without @strQuery works fine. but i want to execute @strQuery through execute sp_executesql @strQuery only as query is dynamic .
please guide me how to do this? its very urgent for me. thanks in advance.
im very new to SSIS package .my package consists of Single Exceute task.
In Single Exceute SQL task i had 3 seperate queries to get the count of rows of 3 tables.
the Query goes like dis ...
select count(*) AS precheckcount1 from new_main_dts where cust_nbr like '875%'
like dis for another 2 tables i had written with the alias name precheckcount2 and 3
i mapped the variable user::precheckcount1 to precheckcount1 in the resultSet and for other two alias name i did the same.
while executing the package the error is thrown : [Execute SQL Task] Error: An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "precheckcount2": "Unable to find column precheckcount2 in the result set.".
I am learning the Optimizer from the book "Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012" for certificate exam 70-461. I really cannot understand how it explains the number of possible ways to execute a query joining three tables. the pseudo-query is:
SELECT A.col5, SUM(C.col6) AS col6sum FROM TableA AS A INNER JOIN TableB AS B ON A.col1 = B.col1 INNER JOIN TableC AS C ON B.col2 = c.col2 WHERE A.col3 = constant 1 AND B.col4 = constant2 GROUP BY A.col5;
The book says:"Start with the FROM part. Which tables should SQL Server join first, TableA and TableB or TableB and TableC? And in each join, which of the two tables joined should be the left and which one the right table? The number of all possibilities is six, if the two joins are evaluated linearly, one after another."
Q1: How could it be six possibilities? From my understanding, lets say, if the SQL Server has to join A and B first, and then join C, in this case I can think of 4 possibilities, which are:
1. When A Join B, Left: A, Right: B. When Join C, Left: result of A join B, Right: C
2. When A Join B, nbsp; When Join C, nbsp;When A Join B, nbsp; When Join C, nbsp;When A Join B, nbsp; When Join C, "line-height:13.5px;">
Q2: The section following the previous question says there are 4 different types of join.."This already gives four options for each join. So far, there are 6 x 4 = 24 different options for only the FROM part of this query."
How can it be 6 x 4? My understanding is 4 is only for 1 join, but in our case, there are 2 joins, so it should be 6 x 4 x 4.
I have a simple Control Flow setup that checks to see if a particular table exists. If the table does not exists, the table is created in an alternate path, if it does exist, the table is truncated before moving to a file import Data Flow that uses an OLE DB Destination to output the imported data.
My problem is, that I get OLE DB package errors if the table the OLE DB Destination Container references does not exist when I load the package.
How can I over come this issue? I need to be able to dynamically create the table in an earlier step, then use that table to import data into in a later step in the workflow.
Is there a switch I can use to turn off checking in the OLE DB Destination Container so that it will allow me to hook up the table creation step?
Seems like this would be a common task...
Steps:
1. Execute SQL Task to see if the required table exists 2. Use expresions to test a variable to check the results of step 1 3. If table exists, truncate the table and reload it from file in Data Flow using OLE DB Destination 4. If table does not exist, 1st create it, then follow the normal Data Flow
I am a serious NT sql NEWBIE. I have installed v7 on my NT/MIIS. I want to allow another party now to create tables on their SQL db they have runnning on my server (their own domain)
What is the best way -? Do they send me the scripts or is there a way to run them remotely and create them.

Hello,In my web site I have 2 types of users: students and professors. All users need to login but the personal information for each user type has different fields. So I create 3 tables: professors, students and authentication,"professors" will have all the personal data from professors."students" will have all the personal data from students.authentication will have the username and password from all users. How can i link authentication table to both professors and students tables so when the user logins i get the data from that user, either a professor or student? And is the right way to do this?I am using SQL 2005 and Asp.Net 2.0Thanks,Miguel
I know this may sound stupid but I really can't figure out how to do it. I just keep going around in cricles.
I need to create six table under three different users. so I would have users1 owning tableA and tableB. Then I would have users2 owning another copy of tableA and tableB. same for users3.
But I just can't find a way of doing it, I am using enterprise manager. Please help, Ed
flowid and stepid for both tables match; meaning that if i found a record in task with a certain taskid, i could query stepdefinition with the same flowid and stepid to find the steptype.
well, i wanna do it the other way around. I query stepdefinition to find a list of flowids and stepids for a specific steptype.
select flowid, stepid from stepdefinition where steptype = -3
Now, I want to find all taskids in task for each flowid/stepid combination
