Jan 23, 2008Hi,I have a web application using Stored Procedure (SP). I see that there's a SP taking long time to execute. I try to capture it by Profiler Tool, and find out that with the same SP on the same db with the same parameter. So I'm wondering if we can determine whether our query is good or bad by looking at the number of reads/writes that showing in the Trace.

Question About SQL Server/Query Analyzer And Timeouts
Mar 29, 2006I was given a list of user comments from an old application and told to match it up with our current system. After all the easy methods I was still left with 95% of the records unmatched. The only way I had left was to try and match up the names. Given that people could have the same name I added a count to make sure it only found one record. This query has been running for over an hour now. How do I tell if it's actually running, or if it locked up?
Also here is the query I'm using, does anyone have any feedback on it? Is this poorly written, is my logic wrong? Did I put the server in a loop?

Hi everybody!
i've got a problem: when trying to connect to SQL Query Analyzer on SQL Server 2000 with SQL Server authentication, i fill in the gaps user name and password but when i press OK it gives me an error.
it says: "Unable to connect to server server-name: login failed for user X. Reason: not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection".
the user i want to get connected with is correcly set up and appears in the SQL Server security-->logins list with type=standard; server access=permit; default database=master.
how could I correct it?

I have developed reports for Oracle database. I wanted to avoid use of OUT REF cursor hence am using function & calling it from reports.
The logic in SP/function is so complex that it takes 5 mins to execute n get the result. I see the results on the report server, But when I call that report from web application, I get System.Net.WebException - Time out error.
My questions:
1. What setting I make on report server to avoid timeout?
--Are these settings applied on report server restart?
2. Is there any setting needed for Datasource also?

Is there an oracle provider out there that will let me invoke a parameterless stored procedure that is in a package in my Oracle source?
Better could that stored proc receive a prameter?
Still better, could I use a stored proc in a OLEDB source component and get the resutls from its only out variable (ref cursor) into my SSIS dataflow?
I haven't been able to get any of these basic functionalities working with either the Oracle OLEDB or the Microsoft OLEDB for Oracle provider...
If not, are there any plans to enahnce the MS provider to handle that?
A more tricky question :
Why does the ReportingService data processing extension for Oracle sources allow such things and not the .NET provider in SSIS?

The guide that I was given refers to Enterprise Manager and SQL Query Analyzer but they have since upgraded to SQL Server Management Studio. Can anyone translate the following statement into SQL Server Management Studio so that I can complete this process?

Apr 11, 2007I am a bit confused by an issue that I am having with executing an Oracle stored procedure (with an output parameter) using an ADO.NET connection object. I am able to get this working using an OLEDB connection, but I have no idea why the ADO.NET connection doesn't work. (Bug, by design, or my ignorance?) Actually, I can even get this to work if I use the .NET Providers for OLE DBMicrosoft OLE DB Provider for ORACLE if we set the connectionType to ADO.NET. This is the error that I am receiving:
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "pkg_utility_read.test_out_var " failed with the following error: "The OracleParameterCollection only accepts non-null OracleParameter type objects, not SqlParameter objects.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
It is also worth mentioning that the ORACLE stored procedure has an out parameter with a NUMBER datatype which I think maps to the ADO.NET Int32 datatype. I guess OLE DB datatypes are more closely mapped to ORACLE datatypes. In OLE DB you can set the parameter to double and the ORACLE stored procedure to NUMBER and it works.
Any help on this would be most appriciated.

But I know as per stored procedure results, it should return 66 records.

Sicne I am getting different values when I run the query. I have a table called 'Client_Master' in both the DB
(ie., Oracle & SQL). I have inserted a record with the below values for Client_Master table. (both Oracle & SQl).

The query is :

SQl Server : one row returned.
Data type for start_code & end_code are 'NVARCHAR2 (40)'.
I would highly appreciate if anyone can explain why is this and any suggestion like how to handle this in both the database.
The subject of this query is the values which is entered by the user should not be overlapped. But I dont how to handle
this if it is alphanumeric.

Query Analyzer Runs The Query Instantly But ADO Can Take Forever???
Aug 29, 2001THis is so annoying. I have 3 ADO executes in my program. THe first one creates a view, the second one performs an outer join on that view and returns a result set, the third execute drops the aforementioned view. THe program that is using this is installed on about 200 computers scattered across Germany and Italy, all querying the same MSsql server 7.0. THe queries run quite quick when few users are actively using the program (after hours for example). however in the heat of the day performance goes up and down dramatically with identical queries taking from 1 to 20 seconds to return their result set. Now I initially thought 'bandwidth issue out of our server'. However I noticed that if I take those three queries and run them from the sql server enterprise manager( running on the same computer as the aforementioned program) then the queries run instantly and the data is in my result pane in less than 2 seconds ALWAYS....even when the program is dogging it with 20 second delays before the result set returns. I know it is hanging on the return of the result set as I put a stop after before each ADO execute in order to check which one was eating up my time. Why is there this dichotomy between running the queries from my enterprise manager versus running them from an ADO object. Both are using TCP/IP (no named pipes involved). I havent monkied with the attributes of the ADO result set so they are all set to default.
I have used the sql server profiler to trace these queries and they always run in less than 33 milliseconds. THe duration is also never more than 33 milliseconds. THis stinks of a network resource issue but what always leads me somewhere else is how consistent the performance of the enterprise manager is when it runs the exact same three queries.
