Executing An External Process() In SQLCLR Project
May 5, 2006
I can create an external text file from within the SQLCLR project, but I cannot run an external executable. Just in case you are asking, I need to do this to push data into a legacy application using a different DB format. I have found it best to simply use my old language (Clipper) for data validation, etc. - and especially since I require multiple indices to be open. So, if you could just take my word on this.
The following code:
Process newProcess = new Process();
string path = @"C:TEST.BAT";
newProcess.StartInfo.FileName = path;
newProcess.Start();
Executes without error, but does not actually run the external.
Now, I can have a DOS (Clipper) application poll a directory for text files, but I am trying to get away from all these "mini" data transformation applications. If an exception is caused in the DOS app, a remote user on the other side of the country has no idea it is broke and his data (coming from a SQL Mobile Device) never gets to our legacy database structure.
So, am I out of luck?

we've seen the ease of calling sqlclr stored procedures whose parameters are known sql data types but are wondering what we're in for when we wish to pass .net objects to a sqlclr stored proc. We're confident that the sp's external assembly itself would build if instructed to "receive" .net objects etc, but can't envision how/if the sp's signature would generate nor can we imagine how such an sp would be called. We're not even sure we can envision how another sqlclr object (eg a trigger) would pass .net objects to the sp. Are we faced with using user defined data types if we need to pass .net objects to such sp's?

Hi,
I have created a SQLCLR (database) using C#.. named SQLCLRtest
The Connection string is stored in SQLCLRtest.csproj file
here is code of csproj file

Problem:
I have an sp which start an external process, It is working at my local machine but does not work at remote server.
FACTS:
Local machine has SQLExpress (SQL version) while remote machine has SQL Enterprise ..
SQL service is running under the System Account at both machines..
I have enabled the Sql server Service to interact with desptop, so that it can start a process in GUI mode.
I thin there is something in connectionstring which does not allow the application to connect to server with appropriate rights.
How I can chage this setting .. is it possible to write this info manually..
Please, comments
Thanks

I've got an SSIS solution file with project deployment model in VS 2013 and would like to deploy that to SSISDB on different environments.All these days I followed the regular way to create a project in SSISDB and deploy it to that. Now want to find out if i can automate this process and so got some questions
1. Can we automate the process of creating a project on SSISDB based on our SSIS project name? This will be like when we do a deployment it should check if the project exists or not on SSISDB based on our SSIS project name, if the project exists we just deploy the packages in the project and if the project does not exists in SSISDB it will create that project and deploy the packages.
2. Can we also automate the process of creating environments? In traditional way we manually create the environment variables under environment tab of SSISDB, but can we make that also as part of deployment? Like when we are releasing to Dev server we look if that particular Dev variable exists on that server, if it exists we just update the existing stuff and if it does not exists we just create it.

By using impersonation I am able to push data to network path / old fashioned DBF's. Of course, I must use unsafe. I am unable, however to successfully run a "cmd.exe" process(), even if I populate the Username, Domain and password (with securestring). It authenticates correctly (checked by giving wrong password or bad username). But when it runs (even just a "cmd.exe"), I get an access is denied error...
StreamWriter sw = File.CreateText("C:\Error.txt");
WindowsIdentity clientId = null;
WindowsImpersonationContext impersonatedUser = null;
clientId = SqlContext.WindowsIdentity;
impersonatedUser = clientId.Impersonate();
System.Security.SecureString password = new System.Security.SecureString();
foreach (char c in "secret")
password.AppendChar(c);
Process p = new Process();
ProcessStartInfo si = new ProcessStartInfo("cmd.exe");
si.UserName = "MyName";
si.Password = password;
si.Domain = "MySecretDomain";
si.UseShellExecute = false;
try
{
p.StartInfo = si;
p.Start();
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
//handle the exception here (This exception handler will not handle the exception, but I get a
//Window popup (While executing my CLR!!!)
}
finally
{
sw.Close();
}
The message popup says: The application failed to initialize poperly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application. I'm kind of at a loss...
I'm using a Windows 2003 server box with the latest SQL Server 2005, .NET 2.0/2005. Let me know if you need anything else.
Oh, just FYI - I am moving replicated data from SQL2005 server to a legacy app using DBF (FoxPro driver). I really need an external DOS app to process some data for the DOS application (Clipper).

This is how I used to create DTS in SQL SERVER 2000 and then create a job for scheduling.
' Visual Basic ActiveX Script
'************************************************************************
Function Main()
url="http://www.pageName.com/abc.aspx"
set xmlhttp = CreateObject("MSXML2.XMLHTTP")
xmlhttp.open "post", url, false
xmlhttp.send ""
'msgbox xmlhttp.responseText
Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success
End Function
Now how will I do the same in the SQl SERVER 2005.
Please help as it is very critical to my work.

Hi,
I am trying to print a PDF via a stored procedure in SQL Server 2005 using c#
I first wrote a stand alone version which works perfectly however after porting it into SQL server the program no longer works
Went back to basics and just tried to open notepad from standalone and from within CLR - again works until I put code into SQL Server DB
Trouble is that it seems to run ok - prints lines to console etc... but the notepad application doesnt start up - there are no errors so really struggling to find out why this might be
Anyone have any ideas, had similar issues?? - Only thing I can think of is a permissions/credentials issue of some kind but again dont have any errors???
I have created the dll file and assembly successfully (using unsafe mode)
Thanks in advance
Code sample below:
.
.
.
executable = "notepad.exe";
ProcessStartInfo starter = new ProcessStartInfo(executable, null);
starter.CreateNoWindow = true;
starter.RedirectStandardOutput = true;
starter.UseShellExecute = false;
Process process = new Process();
process.StartInfo = starter;
process.Start();

Hi all,
In my SQL Server Express (that is installed in my Windows XP Pro PC), SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration has Protocols for SQLEXPRESS. I tried to do "Enabling CLR Integration" in my SQL Server Express: (1) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections", I got an error "An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service, (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) Additional information: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum) The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt). (2) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Features, I got a different error "Computer localhost does not exist on the network, or the computer cannot be configured remotely. Verify that the remote computer has the required computer has the required Windows Management Instrumentation components and then try again. (SQLSAC) Additional Information: An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo). Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum) The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt). Please help and tell me how I should do to get "Enabling CLR Integration" in my SQL Server Express done and how I can create SQLCLR Project in VB 2005 Express.

Greetings all,
I have a process that I run that modifies or adds records. I need to monitor changes to the original records without using triggers.
I have working code but was wondering if someone had an easier way.
My process is as follows.
1. Clone the original table and records:
Code Snippet
CREATE PROCEDURE usp_CreateOriginalTable
@TableName as varchar(50)
AS
--Clone the table
DECLARE @NewTableClone as varchar(60)
SET @NewTableClone = 'SELECT * INTO ' + @TableName + '_ORIGINAL ' + 'FROM ' + @TableName
EXEC(@NewTableClone)
GO
2. Now run my process.
3. Now compare the two tables (Table1 and Table1_ORIGINAL):
Code Snippet
CREATE PROCEDURE usp_GetModifiedorAddedRecords
@TableName varchar(50)
AS
/*The initial code create the base for the d-sql query*/
DECLARE @myQuery as varchar(8000)
SET @myQuery = 'SELECT t1.* FROM '+ @TableName + ' t1 ' +
'LEFT JOIN ' + @TableName + '_ORIGINAL t2 ON '
/*The cursor loops through all fields in the table*/
DECLARE myCursor CURSOR
FOR
SELECT sc.Name
FROM syscolumns sc
JOIN sysobjects so
ON so.ID = sc.ID
WHERE so.Name = @TableName
OPEN myCursor
DECLARE @fieldName varchar(50)
FETCH NEXT FROM myCursor INTO @fieldName
WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
BEGIN
/*In order to check modified records, all fields must be joined with clone*/
SET @myQuery = @myQuery + 't1.' + @fieldName + ' = t2.' + @fieldName + ' AND '
FETCH NEXT FROM myCursor INTO @fieldName
END
CLOSE myCursor
DEALLOCATE myCursor
SET @myQuery = @myQuery + 'WHERE t2.' + @fieldName + ' IS NULL'
SET @myQuery = REPLACE(@myQuery, 'AND WHERE', 'WHERE')
--SELECT @myQuery
EXEC(@myQuery)
GO
Yes I know it uses a cursor but I can't find an easier way. Does anyone know of a better way of doing this or is this fine?

Hi all,
In my office computer network system (LAN), my Windows XP Pro PC has SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed and I was granted to have the Administrator priviledge to access SQL Server Express. I tried to create a SQLCLR project in my terminal PC.
1) I tried to set up a remote connection to SQL Server Express in the following way: SQL Server EXpress => SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. In the Surface Area Configuration for Service and Connection - local, I clicked on Remote Connection of Database Engine, SQLEXPRESS and I had a "dot" on "Local and remote connections" and "Using TCP/IP only". Then I clicked on "Apply" and "OK" buttons. Then I went to restart my database engine in SQL Server Management. When I went to check SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration, I saw the arrow is pointing to "Service", not to "Remote Connections"!!!??? Is it right/normal? Please comment on this matter and tell me how I can have "Remote Connecton" on after I selected it.
2) After I restarted the database engine (I guess!!), I executed the following project code (copied from a book) in my VB 2005 Express:

Troubleshooting tips:
Store application data in isolated storage.
When deploying an Office solution, check to make sure you have fulfilled all necessary requirments.
Use a certificate to obtain the required permission(s).
If an assembly implementing the custom security references other assemblies, add the referenced assemblies to the full trust assembly list.
Get general help for the exception.
I am a new Microsoft VS.NET Express user to do the SQL Server 2005 Express and VB 2005 Express programming by using the example of a tutorial book. Please help and tell me what is wrong in my SQLCLR sep-up and project coding and how to correct the problems.

Hi, we have a problem when executing a script. When i execute the script in my SSMS it works fine. However we want to roll out the script to our customers. For this we have created a custom program. What this program does is read out an xml file. The xml file contains what type of action needs to be taken and the content. In this situation the action is execute a sql script and the content is the script.
An SqlCommand is used to establish a connection and the script is executed through it, but then it returns an error: Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'with'.
Other querries execute perfectly in the program we made, but not this one. The script is as follows:
ALTER PROC [dbo].[usp_get_report_school_year]
@school_id INT
AS
WITH report AS (
SELECT sy.description,
se.type,
se.scol_date,
COUNT(DISTINCT ss.student_id) number_of_students,
SUM(CONVERT(INT, meets_general_standard)) number_met_standard
FROM t_school_year sy
INNER JOIN t_scol_score ss
ON sy.school_year_id = ss.school_year_id
INNER JOIN t_scol_entry se
ON se.scol_entry_id = ss.scol_entry_id
INNER JOIN t_m2m_user_school_group m2m
ON ss.student_id = m2m.user_id
INNER JOIN t_school_group sg
ON m2m.group_id = sg.group_id
AND se.scol_entry_id = sg.scol_entry_id
WHERE ss.school_id = @school_id
AND sg.grade <> '1'
GROUP BY sy.description, se.type, se.scol_date
)
SELECT report.description,
report.type,
report.number_of_students,
report.number_met_standard,
ISNULL(MAX(ss.standard_percentage), 0) standard_percentage
FROM report
LEFT JOIN t_scol_standard ss
ON ss.begin_date <= report.scol_date
AND (ss.expiration_date >= report.scol_date OR ss.expiration_date IS NULL)
LEFT JOIN t_school s
ON ss.school_type_id = s.school_type_id
WHERE s.school_id = @school_id
GROUP BY report.description,
report.type,
report.number_of_students,
report.number_met_standard
Suggestions on other threads involved adding a semicolon at the start end and other places, that didnt work as well. Anyone any suggestions on a possible solution?
Thanks in advance,

I created several packages (MyProjectPart1 - MyProjectPart9) which I execute on the server directly(right-click package in integration services and execute). These packages alI deployed the server with logging and configuration files. Before deploying I edited the configuration file (changed all dependent file names and sql server name from default on my workstation to those unique to the server I'm deploying it to) and then ran the manifest file which pushed it onto the server. I then ran the packages from the server an it ran beautifully. I then tried to build a package which executes all the packages in the correct order (by adding 9 execute package tasks). The dependen files are on the E: emp folder on the server.
I have included the error messg...but it looks like it's looking for dependent drives on the C drive on my workstation. I don't get this? How do I supply configuration files? Why is it executing differently when I call it from package execute task and when I execute it on SQL Server

On 64 bit SSIS platforms (win2k3 and vista), where the amount of virtual memory is practically unlimited, is there any advantage to running child Integration Services Execute Package Tasks out of process? The question pertains to 64 bit processes on a 64 platform, not 32 on 32, or 32 bit emulation processes on 64.
Would the answer be different based on the amount of physical memory on the machine, supposing one had a "reasonable" amount of memory on the machine (e.g. 4Gb or more )

Hi,
Can someone explain how the PR testharness is supposed to function? When I run it f with and without debugging and by using dtexec other processes can start and stop before the awaiting response from the console date and number of days to process. If you just look at the testharness and the loadgroupfulldaily the increment date and SQL Audits will finish prematurely before the console data is even entered. Is there a property that I am missing?
Thanks,

I am building a bunch of packages on our new server and all was going well until I edited the project using the client tools on my PC. I now receive the below error if I try to execute any of the packages on the server (all is still fine on the client). I have scoured the net but I don't seem to be able to come up with a solution. Hello,
I have an "execute process" task which executes a perl script. When I run the task, it shows a prompt with the message "the publisher can not be verified". It gives the option to continue the task or to cancel.
The problem for me is that I want to schedule this package to run automatically, and I don't want the automated process to show this dialog. I need to override the security setting and have SSIS execute my batch scripts without prompting. Assuming I don't want to rewrite the Perl code into a script task, is there a way to do acomplish this?
Thanks!
Arkadiy

In the Visual Studio I try to execute a batch script which is located on the server. But how i develop that? I have tried to rebuilt the servers File structure and save the Package on the Server. < didn't worked
My Question how can I make a package in which I execute a bat file which is located on the Server without developing it on the Server?
Thank you in advance!

For some reason in a Team Foundation Team Project that has multiple project types (SSRS, SSIS, WebSite, C# Business DLL...), the SSIS project makes itself the startup project to the team project. If I explicitly set another project as the startup project to the team project and then select an SSIS package in the SSIS project in the team project, the SSIS project becomes the startup project automatically.
I am using Visual Studio 2005 SP1.

Hi,
I have been working on some SSIS packages for a while now and today while i was working i was trying to create a new connection and in the process there was an error and it said the BIDS has to be closed and i closed it but later when i open BIDS and try to open my project(.sln) from the file menu to work on the half done package it pops up an error which shows the path to my project location on the first line and next statement on the pop up error box says:
"Make Sure the application for the project type (.dtproj) is installed."
I tried to check some forums in which some suggested to try installing SP1 which i tried but ..i dont know why but the SP1 fails to install (i dont know if its causing problem becoz i already installed SP2 as i had some other problem before for which the cure was to install SP2).
Did anyone here face such a problem before ?
I'd really appreciate if the experts here can tell a cure for this problem.
thanks,
Ravi

I have a Visual Studio 2005 solution which contains a Sql Server Integration Services (SSIS) project.
In this solution I have explicitly set a Web application project as startup project, but whenever I edit a DTS package within the SSIS project, VS automatically sets the SSIS project as startup project and the package I edit as startup object.
Needless to say, this may cause some really unwanted incidents when running the solution - thinking that you're about to run the Web application project (that was explicitly set as startup project), but instead, you run the edited package in the SSIS project.
Is there any way to avoid having the SSIS project automatically setting itself as startup project, any workaround here at all? :)
Thanks.

Hi,
I want to update value of a custom field for a perticular project in Project Server 2007 using PSI.
I have created 5 enterprise custom fields(A,B,C,D,E) through PWA/Server Settings.
I want to search all Projects on Server. If any project is having value for custom field A then I want to update rest of the custom fields(B,C,D,E) for that perticular project.
I dont know how to do it please help.
Thanks in Advance

I have a very small project written in VB.Net 2005 using the SQL Server 2005 SSiS DTSx package.
I took a SQL Server 2000 dts package and using the SQL Server 3005 legacy tools migrated it so I could still use the package withing SQL 2005 until I can build one using BI/SSIS.
Anyway,I added the reference Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS so I could then use the Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime so I can execute the commands:
Dim oApp As New Application
Dim oPkg As New Package
oPkg = oApp.LoadPackage(g_DTSx_Directory & "AOC copy Generic1 CSV to AOC_verify_file_1.dtsx", Nothing)
Dim oResults As DTSExecResult
oResults = oPkg.Execute
Ok. That works fine. Executes without a hitch. So now I try and create a setup project for this and I use the setup wizard.
During the creation of the setup project I get a message that states:
The following files may have dependencies that cannot be determined automatically. Please confirm that all dependencies have been added to the project.
C:windowssystem32msxml6.dll
OK. The dll is part of the reference I mentioned above and I have no idea what other dependencies it may have.
How do I find this out?
Has anyone else created a project like this and experenced the same?
I am on a clean build running WinXP Pro with SP2 - VS2005 with SP1 and the SQL Server 2005 tools.

Hi,
I have a web application using Stored Procedure (SP). I see that there's a SP taking long time to execute. I try to capture it by Profiler Tool, and find out that with the same SP on the same db with the same parameter. The duration of executing by my web app is far bigger than the duration of executing on SQl server management studio - query window
Please see the image through this url http://kyxao.net/127/ExecutionProblem.png
Any ideas for this issue?
Thanks a lot
